Backing up controlfile to trace, but in a diff location
With the alter database backup controlfile to trace, how can I specify a diff. location. I tried it this way but got an error: I want to move it to another location so that one of my scripts can pick up this file and move it somewhere else (part of a backup scenario we have):

We have 8i,9i, 10g and 11g database. The unfortunate thing is that we are using this user managed hot backups for backing up our database. and I have no idea for what reason, we are not backing up the controlfile. Anyway, I would like you to comment on this, they said, they will recreate a text based controlfile and do the recover database until cancel using backup controlfile ; I know, if we have the path of all the datafiles , we can use this, but is this a right strategy ? of course, no one would agreed on this. I really appriciate, if somone could express his opinion in detail.

The database consists of the following files:
Spfile/Pfile
Controlfile
Datafile
Redo Log
archivelog
When we talk about backing up the database, (no matter how) must take backup up of all these files.
If you are not taking these files in your backup you have a incomplete backup.
Why not take a back up of control file to a binary file. Is more simple and fast restore controlfile using binary file.
ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO '/oracle/backup/control.bkp';To Trace should be used to produce SQL statements that can later be used to re-create your control file.
ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE;Why not use RMAN? A resource with endless options and features.
Using user-managed backup you have none options/feature compared with the use of RMAN.
It can be used in all Oracle databases without additional license.

Not generating controlfiles backup trace file

when i am issing this command ,
sql>alter database backup controlfile to trace;
output its showing : Database is altered .
when I am looking the trace files in UDUMP dirrectory there is no file exist there

The commands I'm using are:
alter database backup controlfile to trace as 'd:\oracle\backup\controlfile.bak';
create pfile='d:\oracle\backup\pfile.bak' from spfile;
However, I want the file to be controlfile.bak.theDate, ie controlfile.bak.20090323, as I want to keep so many days worth and not overwrite the file.
How can I add the date in this way?

But why do you want to do so when RMAN itself can take the controlfile backup and of the pfile automatically.Why do want to get the trace of controlfile.In you script simply add
backup current controlfile format '/location/ctl_%d_%T';
backup spfile format 'location/sp_%d_%T';
%d ---> The name of the database.
%T ---> The year, month, and day (YYYYMMDD)
Every time you take a backup, the controlfile and spfile with unique name will be present along with the database backup.

I have a problem with the command:
alter database backup controlfile to trace;
When i execute this command the file is not generated.
I look parameter user_dump_dest it's good.
If i do a change by alter system set user_dump_dest=xxxx scope=Both i arrive to generate my file but whe i shutdown my database the problem continue again.

I changed my LCD last day and now i noticed all my pictures on my phone are gone. I tried to restore the back that I got yesterday but it wont let me because its telling me there is not enough space on my phone!!! That's wierd because I didn't download any app or anything else since my last backup and on the other hand about 3000 pictures are gone, how come there is not enough space left! I also check my usage on my phone and it shows that i have about 7.0 GB pictures!!! BUT my photos is empty! I want my picture back on my phone any solution anyone?

I just called the guy who changed my LCD and asked him what happend, he said there were no pictures on your phone when you gave it to me! i know he is lying tho!

I just got iphone 5c and i am not happy with it. It uses to much data and i don't even know how. I can't get the ringtones i want for my contacts.I got it on my free upgrade but i want to take it back and get something else but where i got it they say i can't because i don't have the earbuds and i have serches or them. now i am suck with a phone i don't like at all until my next upgrade. this is very dishearten

My past computer crashed and I am trying to get all my itunes songs back for my new computer, but even though I have downloaded all my past purchases some of them still aren't playing and can't be located. What can I do? It is quite alot of lost songs/ money.....

xI realise there have been a number of threads like this now that I have started looking, the problem is the back-ups i made were saved to a server network which has now also gone down, a case of dreadful luck really. Is there any other way to get the music back?

I just performed the rebuild. It put a bunch of empty folders into my library that I had deleted in the past. But no where is the one folder that I had made yesterday with my 25 photos. I checked the orginial folder that I took them from and not there. It's odd that it's like they never exisited. So broken hearted. The last photo I had with my husband and I in it with his grandpa before he died is gone. Unless there is a way to get it off a back up on my phone somewhere. All of my photos' are backed up from my PC but nothing since owning this computer. cause this itunes icloud time machine stuff has me confused but will have to get the pictures printed and burned that I do have. That's what I was working on yesterday when this happened. Chose my first 25 I wanted to print and lost them and I"m afraid to touch the others now.

can someone assist me with a solution to the problem with my iphone 5. I upgraded to IOS 6.1.4 and since then i have had the problem of No Sim. I restored to the factory settings using i tunes as i have my back up on my pc but still the same problem. I have swapped sim and my Sim is working on other iphone with ios 6.1.3
Try a new SIM from your carrier. If that doesn't work, make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

Hello, so today I realized that my iPhone with iOS 6 is frozen on the music. I can get back to the home screen but I can't get the music player to work because its frozen on the w's and will not respond to touch. I would be grateful for any help on this.

This is the most childish queries in this forum ..
I wanna know how to Find out the correct trace file when we Issue alter database backup controlfile to trace at sqlprompt for Creating controlfile script.
As i find it a bit confusing to go through the same Date & almost same time .trc files out of hundreds of trace file in /bdump directory to find the correct one.
if we 've to find the Alert log file in /bdump directory $ ls -l al* & we get the alert log file .... if there is any similar way to find out the controlfile script Trace file ?

MZcreation of the does not happen automatically. What script, and when does it run, do you have that creates the control file trace? Look for files in that time frame. Better, modify that script to specifically name the file .. BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE AS ....
