ITunes purchases and reusability...questions for ditching of cable tv

I have been kicking around the idea of ditching my Cable TV for a while, and due to some recent "issues" over their sales strategies, I have become much more serious about finding an alternative.
One that I think is plausible is the use of the iTV in conjunction with OTA (Over The Air) free TV.
This raises an entire list of questions, though.
First off, I have a Mac, and use iTunes now to listen to a slue of podcasts and MP3s, and to sync my iPhone. I have never made a song/video purchase, so I dont really know what its all about. If I buy a song or video from the iTunes store, is that song/video licensed to all the devices I own? I am pretty sure it will sync to my iPhone, but what about my iTV? and if I buy something on my iTV, what about my Mac/iPhone? Is the purchase linked to the account and not the device?
Second, due the the limited availability of hard disk space, if I made said purchase, like a Season Pass, watch it, then remove it from my hard drive, am I still able to re-download the same content in the future? For how long? I don't want to be like a pack-rat, hording everything just because I might have a whim to watch an episode of Dexter all over again.
Last, has anyone else had any experience using an iTV to ditch cable? What are your thoughts? Are there any other pitfalls I haven't thought of?
Thank in advance...

Movie rentals are a bit different, if those are of potential interest. See:

No. You get one download per purchase. If you want to keep shows (or any other content) for possible future viewing, you'll need to copy them to CD/DVD, an external hard drive, or some other removable medium.
BTW, there is no product (from Apple, anyway) called an "iTV". Apple's media playback product is called the "Apple TV". This isn't meant to be pedantic, just helpful; if you search the web for "iTV", you won't find the correct information, or not as much of it, anyway.
Regards.
