Backup Oracle 9i

hi,
I am trying to use Oracle Secure Backup to backup my 9i server, but in the Admin documents, it seem that database backup can only be start in Oracle EM console. Is there any way to backup 9i server using OSB?
And what is the procedure to backup data which the Media server and DB server in separate host?
Thanks for any reply
Vincent

hi Vincent,
as far as I know, it is not possible to use OSB webconsole to start rman backup of a database. If you don't want to use Grid Control or OEM, you'll have to configure rman manually to use OSB. Something like
run {
allocate channel tape123 device type sbt parms='SBT_LIBRARY=/usr/local/oracle/backup/lib/libobk.so';
backup database;
release channel tape123;
will do. Of course you can write a script, which includes the rman commands and which you can schedule with any OS scheduler (cron f.i.).
The libobk.so should be copied during the installation of OSB client on the database server and after having configured this host as OSB client. If the libraries aren't installed, you'll have to copy them manually from the os spezific source files on the admin server.
Media server and database server can be different nodes.

  • Backup Oracle Database On 24x7 System

    Dear Kamran
    First sorry my English.
I am a beginner of oracle 10g and have a problem please help (Consult) me. If you are accept it
    My problem is a :
Two oracle server with RAC (Clustering) and one external oracle server (BACKUP ORACLE SERVER) on the this network without RAC (Clustering) on the RHEL 4.7
How to synchronize third oracle server’s database with RAC oracle servers. Becouse of if RAC Oracle servers down or technical corruption change corrupted server.
Or other flexible solution tell me (how to do it)

you can make the third oracle server as a physical standby database to RAC setup. for more information, read oracle doc "Dataguard basics and administration" from http://tahiti.oracle.com
as other option, you can schedule a refresh job from RAC setup to third database server.

  • How to backup oracle RAC filesystem

    Hello,
May anyone in this community might help to answer on my inquiry on how to backup oracle RAC filesystem. There are many backup features available out there i.e: RMAN, hotbackup etc but the way the backup is working is RMAN will backup and stored the db file in the filesystem. I presume the filesystem also need to be backed up in order to avoid the filesystem corrupted etc
    Regards

    Hi,
    Always welcome ..
when you want to take backup of all the database components of RAC, that's why i advised you to include the all commands in your backup strategy, so that in any case your any components doesn't work , you can restore the particular one .
One thing you can do , you are running your RAC environment on Vsphere , in that case , create a backup plan with the client and your IT team to take backup of whole environment by creating snapshot of Vsphere along with backup plan mentioned by me in above reply  , so in worst scenario your whole environment can be restored .
I have seen that if RAC environment is running on VMware , then its best to take snapshot of whole machine which should be defined in backup policy apart from normal backup of database.

  • How to recover a cold backup (Oracle 9i)

    Hello,
We got the following situation, one of our clients wants to switch from Oracle 9i to Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
Our client is located in Singapore and we operate in Belgium, they have sent us an external HD with a media/cold backup of their database.
We also got both the database name and the passwords for the database.
In order to get this database available I have taken the following steps:
1)Created an Virtual Machine with Windows XP SP3,
2)Installed Oracle 9i on this VM,
3)Created a database using the database name and passwords given by the client.
Now I want to recover our clients database, how do I do this.
I know there texts about it, but I need a step for step guide to do this (that's the way I learn by seeing how its done and then reproduce it)
    Thanks for any response

After some calls and putting pressure on our client IT I've been able to find out that there either using 11 or 10g.
Also found out that the name they gave me is not the name they use
So I followed the instructions on [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96521/create.htm#1000691] , I did find some mistakes in the page
I got the following create database statement
    CREATE DATABASE dbname
    USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY pz6r58
    USER SYSTEM IDENTIFIED BY y1tz5p
    LOGFILE GROUP 1 ('D:\dbname\redo01.log') SIZE 100M,

So what did I do wrong, altough I'm guessing I copied the original files to early
    [code="sql"]DATAFILE 'D:\dbname\system01.dbf' SIZE 700M REUSE
    Although I did use reuse
I shutdown the database and removed the files to and replaced them with the files from the client,
Mounted the database succesfully and tried to query the metadata
    Mixing the information found on
    Creating an Oracle Database,
    Oracle Recovery Procedure
Got ORA-01219, which is logical since the databse isn't open yet.
I open the database using alter database open

  • Alert mail configuration for backup / Oracle database

    Hello All,
I am trying to configure alert mail for successful backup in the system and i have did with most of the configurations. The steps are as follows:
Configured mail in 000 client and also assigned mail id for a user
Configured the method CCMS_OnAlert_Email_V2 (set the parameters and its auto reaction method)
Configured the nodes CCMS Monitor templates -> Database -> Oracle -> Backup / restore -> backup status -> last brbackup run and last successful complete backup with the method CCMS_OnAlert_Email_V2 as mentioned in the SAP note 176492
And after these configurations we receive the mail successfuly. However there are few issues which i would like to get corrected / clarified. Whenever a backup is started i am receiving a mail stating that brbackup has been started and whenever a backup fails i am receving mail stating brbackup is failed with some return code. But i am not receiving any mail after successful completion of backup. Am i missing any configuraions here? Is this the standard one and other configurations required for mail on successful backup? Please suggest
    Regards,
    Anandh

When should a message trigger an alert?
1.Always (at every message): The Alert Monitor triggers a alert with the corresponding message value for every message.
2.Message value (color) has changed: The Alert Monitor only triggers an alert if the alert color of a reported message changes. For example, an alert is triggered if a red message follows a yellow message.
3.The message sent has changed: The Alert Monitor only triggers an alert if the color or severity of a message changes or if a new message is sent.
4.Never: The Alert Monitor does not trigger any alerts.
As your requirement, I would suggest it to be set to "Always"
Please let us know how it works.
    Regards

  • Backup  oracle database - pre post steps

I want to do cold backup of 10g database. Do I need to shutdown Oracle Application server and listeners before doing cold backup and start them again after backup done.

for taking cold backup then its better to shutdown the apps server as well
database.I would recommend to you whenver you are going to take cold
backup for db then its better for you to take apps cold backup too if
the cold backup goes after you applied any patch ,within E-Biz tech the
patch activity affect apps files too.

/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/rman target sys/viviet@vvsms  log /home/oracle/log_rman/vvsms.log appendThis line can be your problem.
As this database is a RAC and your are using a service with load balance "vvsms" and "/home/oracle/backup/vvsms" is not a shared location. RMAN is starting a session on Other node where "/home/oracle/backup/vvsms" does not exists.
    Try change it :
/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/rman target sys/viviet@vvsms  log /home/oracle/log_rman/vvsms.log appendTo this (using Easy Connect Method):
    /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/rman target sys/viviet@localhost:1521/VVSMS  log /home/oracle/log_rman/vvsms.log appendWhere:
    localhost: your local node
VVSMS : is the service of database
Also check if "/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin/sqlnet.ora" have configured the line "NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)"
P.S : When RMAN start a session it show where is logged, check on logs what instance RMAN was logged.

  • Errors after attempt to backup oracle 10 g express

    Hi,
First of all thanks to all who take the time to lend some aid.
I'm extremely rudimentary when it comes to databases; so please do your best to spell everything out.
As the title suggests I am facing some errors in my database that only occurred after running the backup database in 10g express. I no longer can access my data; which means the whole purpose off backup database has been rendered worse than moot.
It started out with getting an ora-01033 error - which from what i could understand is an issue with the database being in the process of startup or shutdown when you try to connect.
I've been dabbling in the sqlplus and could get it shutdown; but it startups with errors. I think this is where I'll first start so we can analyze one problem at a time.
Here is my alert log from the incident; this type of incident first occurred Saturday evening which was my first attempt to run the backup

also when i connect to my system as sysdba although I shutdown it says i'm connecting to an idle instance; which I'm not sure is normal.
    thanks again

as a result i issued the command in cmd prompt. I'll try just about anything as my backup has schmucked my database; which means in effect I don't have my backup! (horrible feeling)

  • Hot Backups - Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g

Are all hot backups run outside of RMAN as an OS file copy? If so, isn't this a very risky exercise.
I understand that RMAN will check for corruption where as hot backups won't. RMAN can also track backups in a recovery catalog.
If using a hot backup, it seems like corrupt data could be backed up with the good data.
What exactly are the advantages of using a hot backup. It is understood that the databases can be up during a hot backup, but can't they also be up with an incremental RMAN backup?

I think you need to read the documentation again. Check on tahiti.oracle.com
A cold backup is when the database is shutdown (can be done by file copy or rman)
A hot backup is when the database is running (can be done by file copy or rman)
RMAN has the advantages of backing up at block level, and going directly to tape, and compression, and incremental backup, and block checking, and backup from ASM, and catalog ......
File copy has the advantage of being logically simple (e.g you can see exactly what is happening when you copy a file).

  • How to backup oracle database in C# application

    Hi,
Could anyone please tell me about a full script that will backup my Oracle XE "Express" database. I have user schema and it has tables with data and I want to backup them. I hope someone tell me how. I want to do it inside a button so it can be easy for me to just press on button and it will continue its job. Thank you very much for your help.
Any method is appreciated from you. So I just need the way that I can do it. In Oracle forms I used to use exp but in C# I don't how.

    ok
Even this is ODBC forum, you could check for $ORACLE_HOME/bin/Backup.bat ... analize that script. You could call it from c# with Process Class, and process.startinfo.

    is this the cause ?
previously , my client was still on 8i and it could actually backup both the 8i & 9i database objects
    pls advise
    rgds

First off, the export and import utilities should be considered useful supplements to a proper physical backup but should not be used as the primary backup method for a production database.
Second, Oracle pretty much requires that you use the version of the export utility that matches the lowest database version you're working with. You could generate the export files on the machine where the database runs, which guarantees that versions will match up, and move them elsewhere. Or you can have multiple versions of the Oracle client in different Oracle Homes on the same machine.

  • How to backup Oracle Database Single Instance using RMAN

    Folks,
Hello. I am using Oracle Database Server 11gR1 with Operating System Oracle Linux 5.10.
I understand how to backup database instance in SQL Server with Windows. But don't really understand how to backup database instance in Oracle with Linux.
I have done Cold backup and Hot backup for the database instance HRCS90 but both get the same error message.
    Cold backup is below:

    My question is:
Can any folk tell me the specific steps (command by command) to backup a single database instance in Oracle using RMAN ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying. My database instance named HRCS90 is going to be backed up. My backup directory is /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90.
If database in open state, we must back up in archive log. If database in mount state but not open, we can back up in noarchive log.
I have tried to back up HRCS90 in archive and noarchive log when database in mount state but not open as below:
    SQL>startup mount;
    SQL>exit
    [user@linux bin]$./rman

    Linux-x86_64 Error: 13: Permission denied
As we see the above last 2 commands, either archive or noarchive, I get the same error:
Archive: ORA-19504: "failed to create file /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90/full_0boqei2c_11_1"
Noarchive: ORA-19504: "failed to create file /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90/full_0coqeia5_12_1"
    My question is:
What is the file "full_0boqei2c_11_1" or "full_0coqeia5_12_1" ?  How to solve the above error ?
    Thanks.
