Backups made with Time M. from M. Lion disappear LaCie external HD ( "Big Disk Extreme" 500GB ) , after upgrading to Mavericks.

Before upgrading to Mavericks proceed to make the most recent backup ( as often recommended as prevention against faults ), with M. Lion and Time M. on an external LaCie 500 GB HD . After the update without problems , proceed to restore iPhoto library as Mavericks and not on what my surprise is not in the backups made , have disappeared . Are only backups that you have made and the new OS with the new version I just bought iPhoto 9.5.1 for Mavericks. So do not get nothing but lose money because the new version does not seem to add anything new , but they are adapted to the new OS
Also in M. Time preferences , options appear as "excluded items back up " a series of folders that were not before, not excluded by me but by the process of upgrading to Mavericks, even folders whose names appear as not exist , then were changed months ago , now appear in M. Time Options to be excluded from the backup with their old names ( folders located on the MacPro in other HD 's connected HD different OS and different LaCie HD ) . I also remember that after several backups performed by Mavericks notice that appears Time M. will delete old backups to continue making new copies ( not allowed to say no) , even though the backup HD LaCie is showing more than 20 GB unoccupied.
Where have gone those backups M.Lion ? . What is the best way to recover them, and that not all recovery software are equal ? . Is it best to disconnect the MacPro the LaCie HD and wait for Apple to fix it ?

Anyone that has used a LaCie, especially D2 or what you have, has run into the problem of...
weak power supply adapter, firmware on the FW bridge issue, failures, or the more common "discharge all the current on your cables and bus by unplugging everything" fix once or more.
Those are all foreign to me!
And I am using 6 FW drives regularly and a couple that are just emergency boot drives updated monthly.
For all I know, you might be able to throw your old drives into cases and get some more good use from them as well.
I prefer to not rely on a built-in bridge to do RAID, and to use Apple Disk Utility or another program like www.softraid.com to do so.
Depending on how much use those drive cases get, do they get just warm, very warm or hot, during operations? or just for backup?
And if you want RAID for editing or scratch or performance, look into eSATA. And cases with fans, ventilation, and that keep the drives to a reasonable temperature (below 44ºC and hopefully in the 30's).

If the disk was burned via iPhoto's Share->Burn Disk menu option then, yes, it will be compatible and viewable by iPhoto 7. Event earlier backup disks, iPhoto 5, are readable and useable by iPhoto like this. You can just view the photos or drag them into the new library.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Restoring a Data Backup Made With HP Recovery Manager - Recovery Manager has Since Been Removed

My system (Pavilion dm4 notebook, Win 7 Home Premium x64)) is working fine but I would like to restore a data backup made with HP Recovery Manager. HP Recovery Manager has since been removed from the system and I do not have a recovery disk. I tried installing sp45415 which supposedly runs a silent installer for Recovery Manager, but it silently fails on my system. The accompanying notes say it is applicable to Windows 7 computers and to Pavilion dm1 and dm3. There is no mention of the dm4. Is there some trick to getting sp45415 to run correctly? Is there somewhere I can download an installation package for HP Recovery Manager that works on the Pavilion dm4? Is there any other tool that can restore the backup made by HP Recovery Manager? If you uninstalled Recovery Manager it likely removed the recovery files in the recovery partition.When those files are removed-no download of Recovery Manager is going to install. You will need Recovery Media to boot from to restore the recovery partition and files. If you did not make Recovery Media you will have to order from HP. As for the files you are trying to restore- If this was a backup of personal files,photos,etc to external hard drive or dvds there should be one .exe file inside those files-probably Restore.exe or Recover.exe. Double clicking the .exe will extract the files to a folder on the hard drive of your laptop.

I am inside Mail, waiting for the TM 'recovered mail' folder to appear - which it doen't.
I only looked in my home folder after trying several times from within my Main app.

I've never personally done this, but I'm qute sure you can. After all, this would be one method of migrating from the MacBook to the MacBook Air (with the assistance of Migration Assistant).

After upgrading to Mavericks OS my 2012 MacBook became slower than ever before. My MacBook was freezing and the beach ball kept appearing. This seemed to be something a lot of people were experiencing with Mavericks, so after other suggested didn't work, I decided to just revert to Mountain Lion using Time Machine. But my mac is still slow--I now avoid using it because it's such a huge hassle. I have 8 gb of RAM, 5.5 gb of which is free. ~98 % of the CPU is idle. Have no idea how to get my computer back to how it used to be. Any suggestions?

Thunderbolt Display has issue with weird washed-out colors after waking from sleep (after upgrade to Mavericks)

I've got a Thunderbolt Display that I use with my Macbook Air (mid 2012) - usually in clamshell mode.
When I let the computer go to sleep, and then wake it up by clicking the mouse, the monitor turns back on but the colors are washed out and purple looking.
The display goes back to normal when I unplug and replug it to my laptop.
I first noticed this problem after upgrading to Mavericks.

Same thing for me too. Late 2012 13" MBP Retina. I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days. The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update: I just got back from a trip. I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display. I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor. I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep. After resuming from sleep, the display is ok. Maybe try rebooting? I'll update if it continues.

I did not have a DVD handy to burn but I have just created a small 2 minute video and created a Disk Image and also a VIDEO_TS folder, the encoding worked correctly, so it works with some items.

Ok. I got it to work, sort of....
As I mentioned before I tried the "disk password" and the "Time capsule Password" options to see if I can start the back up again or start a new backup. Neither worked. So I tried the firmware down grade, but like you said that did not work. I then decided to try the "Account password" option and I have never used this option before becasue it states that if there is data on the drive it would not be acessable after creating an account. Since I wiped out the disk that was nno problem. When I created the new account and choose the drive it asked for the user name and password. I entered the info for the new account I just created(FYI this has nothing to do with your login username and password), bingo! It worked!
Now I have two partitions on the TC disk. The old one and now the new account. I am guessing this is to be used if I have multiple computers, which I don't.
I any case, I am going to wipe out everything again and try again to do a backup the way I had it before.

Wifi problem with Mac after upgrade to Mavericks

I just upgraded to Mavericks but something wrong with my wifi.
i can get internet through LAN link from Airport but not through wifi even i can receive an IP address
i tried connect to hotspot with my iphone5s and it works.
Other devices can use wifi just fine through Airport, just not my Mac using Mavericks
In conclusion,
Airport should be fine because my other devices works.
Mac wifi should be fine too because i can connect using hotspot.
so why it's not working when i connect Mac to Airport?

I was having problems connecting to Wifi with my Macbook Pro (!2010), after upgrading to Mavericks. I was on the phone repeateadly with AT&T because I have Uverse. Testing everything (channels, signal strength) and had techs come out to check the line, ports, switches, etc. When I hardwired the Mac into the Uverse router, it worked fine. This rulled out any problems with the line in.
I considered getting a repeater but then I read that repeaters are not really good and it is better to reconfigure a router to act as an access point on the network. Plunked down about $80 for a Belkin AC750 router at Best Buy. In the setup it has an option to set it up as an access point only. Clicked that, connected it to my Motorola NVG510 Uverse modem and then connected to the Belkin router from my Mac. Voila! It's been a solid 11+ Mbs ever since (my plan maxes at 12Mbs). Connection is still solid and life if good even though it ***** to plunk down another $80 for a second router. But it was worth it just to get rid of the headaches.
I think the wifi capabilities of the Motorola NVG510 modem are the cause of a lot of problems with AT&T Uverse issues, particularly for Mac owners. I think it was also causing my Airport Expresses to drop occasionally.... Few minutes of music then drop... music drop.... All gone now.
I don't know if you are on Uverse but if so, I highly recommend configuring a second router as an acces point (it can be any old router you still might have - the setup is just a bit trickier because you have to do it manually).

Yes, you can do something like that. What you would do is create a button for each image and then hide them. When I do this type of thing I place all of the buttons on a template page and then hide the template.
You can then use JavaScript to copy the icon from any of the hidden buttons to the main button that you've set up to display the image. For example, suppose you set up 10 buttons named b1, b2, b3, ...b10. The code to copy the icon from one of them to the button used to display the image (b0) would be something like this:

Thanks for the suggestion! I don't use Phantasm or VectorScribe (or any Astute Graphics plugins for that matter). I do, however, have a Wacom tablet and have a few plugins that concern using Blurb Book Creator as well as LiveSurface Context.
I did the very unfortunate and foolish act of upgrading to Maverick without a backup, so postponing isn't an option for me.
I geuss my question at this point would be, would it be worthwhile to wipe all the adobe products from my harddrive and re-install them? Or would that be a useless endeavor.
I don't have an external hard-drive so backing up and re-installing the entire OS would be a bit much. Any suggestions?
