Bad practice to always fill recordable media dvd etcetera to the max limit?

I burn a lot of dvd, bluray etcetera.
I see that for example Blu Ray Bd-R has a max capacity of 23.31 GB (single layer).
I have heard that you are not suppose to fill it to the max limit due to quality of burning for long time storage, but cannot understand why eventually.
Any good guidelines for this?

Yes, I agree, the chance of bad sectors, or the need for an extra metafile block can means filling the disc is undesirable, especially if just adding plain data.
Here's what I have to say about CDs*:

    The best way to do it is go back to PS and place the navigation area in the design, i would make it 100% of the width and then re-slice the design making sure one single slice is the whole of this navigation area.
    That would be the best way to do it while still using a table layout which in and of itself is not recommended, in large part  for this very reason.
    Every time you want to make a small change to the layout of your site, it will require re-slicing and re-generating code out of PS. You would be much better off taking the time to understand css layouts. Here is a good place to start to get the basics of css: http://www.w3schools.com/css

  • Recording on DVD - "Unable to recover TOC" error

    Hi all
    Whenever I try to record on a DVD a face "Unable to recover TOC"
    I've tried to change the recording speed but no use.
    When I go to DVD properties and click on enable recording it does not recognize the DVD or any other CD in the drive.
    Please some help

    Hi,
    1. What software do use to burn cd/dvd disks? Try to use Nero, Ashampoo burning studio, Alcohol CD and DVD Burning Software,
    2. Then, I advise you to use high quality medias as TDK or Verbatim.
    3
    Go to device manager and remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
    Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    Reboot the notebook and wait until the CD/DVD drive would appear again
    If you still have problems, maybe there is a problem with your cd/dvdrom

  • Multi-functional Servlet considered bad practice?

    Hi,
    is it considered bad practice using doGet() for fetching say a blog entry and using doPost() for saving new entries or comments?
    Such as:
    protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) throws ServletException, IOException {
         blog.getPost(id);
    protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) throws ServletException, IOException {
         Post post = new Post(title, msg, category, author);
         blog.save(post);
    }I like to think that this is the reasoning or at least part of the reason why doGet and doPost are separate methods.
    Thank you.
    Regards,

In a small hobby application you can do so. In real business I wouldn't do so, it might bite in the future if you plan to extend that servlet with more logic.
    I like to think that this is the reasoning or at least part of the reason why doGet and doPost are separate methods.No, it is not. The HTTP protocol specification (1) offers several request methods, GET, POST, HEAD, PUT, DELETE, etc. The HttpServlet API (2) offers overrideable methods for each of those request methods so that you can handle it using some Java logic. A "plain vanilla" request is always GET. A form submit can be either GET or POST -generally POST is preferred as it can transfer more data and does "hide" query parameters.

  • How do I make a horizontal bar stretch to always fill the width of the browser outside of the wrappe

    When I enter 100% in the width field it will fill to the wrapper which is at 1000px, I want just certain Horizontal Bars to fill the width of the browser at all times.
    Example is at http://www.hollywoodunderground.com - the bars below the header/links and the bar above the footer. Trying to figure out how to get both of those to always fill the width of the browser while still maintaining the original wrapper for all of the other content. Do I just find a way to get those 2 bars outside of the wrapper into a new wrapper or do I do it within the wrapper?

    You would have to set up your construction a bit differently.
    You would put the logo and the social media icons in their own  <div> set to 1000px, margin 0 auto to horizontally center it
    <div id="logoSocialMedia"></div>
    Then you would have your black bar <div> set to width: 100% (no need to set this though as it will fill the available space).
    <div class="blackBar"></div>
    Then you would have your youtube videos <div> set to 1000px, margin 0 auto.
    <div id="youTubeVideos"></div>
    Then another black bar <div>:
    <div class="blackBar"></div>
    Get it?

  • Force quitting InDesign as a Matter of Routine. Bad Practice?

    I am trying to convince InDesign users here (CS4, CS5) that using Force Quit as a matter of routine for quitting out of InDesign at the end of the day is a bad practice. I think this started because when we were using K4 (enterprise InCopy/InDesign plug-ins), InDesign DID take a long time to quit because of communication to the K4 database and disconnecting.
    I need some good evidence to convince everyone to quit out of InDesign normally. And also other programs they use. My argument is that when InDesign quits, it updates its preferences and perhaps may even clean something up. Anyone know?

    I work on local files only, and I still have to either leave my desk for 10 minutes after I try to quit then shut down, or force quit and shut down. I do work on some large files though (50-100 meg catalogs) with lots of photos linked in. I guess it takes forever to clear all the cached memory or something. If I try to do a shutdown with InDesign open. I always get a time out error. Also when I go back to InDesign after working in Photoshop, FreeHand, Entourage or FireFox it takes a long time to redraw the InDesign screen and menus.
    I also have a couple of indexing scripts, but don't run them often. Don't see how that would affect anything.
    I read a post somewhere that you could change the "Live Screen Redraw" setting to help with the slowness, but I cannot find that setting in CS3. It may only be in later versions.

  • No recordable media detected

    Hi.... I have been trying to burn DVDs on my T60. The burning software with this puter does not work nor other programs that I have downloaded. So I hooked up an external DVD burner which works with my desktop. Again, the lappie says no recordable media detected. This lappie does say it can burn  DVD-R, which is what I am using. There are no drivers to update, so they say. Since external does not work it means lappie drive may work but the lappie for some reason is not recognizing the media. Now.... I copied 5 movies hoping to burn when I was away for New Year and the first one DID burn the rest I have not been able to. 19% free space on hard drive, USB to USB ordered so that I can put this movies on desk top..... BUT how to make lappie work!!!! When I burned that first movie that was the first time I used the burner....... LOL  kkkkkkkk

    Your problem may now be that you have trash in the registry from the "other" programs you downloaded.  Have you considered a clean install?  Try downloading DVDFAB - it has a 1 month free trial.  If this won't burn your DVDs, nothing will  ->  Clean install!

  • Home Media DVD

    If I get a Home Media DVD will I need a receiver for my other TV

    Every box on which you intended to be able to watch live TV needs a STB or digital adapter.   The Home Media service is a STB to STB service -- so, yes, you need a STB on the other TV if you want to watch shows recorded on the Home Media DVR on that TV.
    Note: If you record in HD, you need an HD STB on the remote TV in order to be able to watch that program.   You can record shows in SD and watch them on other SD STB's, but you can't watch an HD program on an SD box via the Home Media DVR.

    I have a football game recorded on a DVD+R disc that I was trying to view on my MacBook using DVD Player.  The video comes onto the screen, but immediately freezes, and then disappears.  An error message comes up saying that DVD player unexpectedly quit.  My MacBook operating system is Mac OS X, version 10.5.8.  DVD Player is App version 5.0.3, framework version 5.0.7.
    However, the DVD+R works on both my Dad's and my brother's laptops.  My Dad's laptop is an iBook G4 with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.3.9.  The DVD Player is version 4.0.  My brother's laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.7.2.  The DVD Player is App version 5500.26.1 and framework version 5.5.0.  The DVD+R plays fine on their laptops, but will not play on mine.

    Lao Bo,
    yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
    This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
    Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
    If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
    Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • Now that Apple branded DVD media (DVD-R/-RW x2, 4, 8) No Longer Exists.....

    I've had my Powerbook G4 for about 3 years now and have only been successful burning DVDs with Apple's own branded media. Other branded media has had a fairly high fail-rate with my UJ-816 Superdrive and there are no firmware updates for the model. Apple-branded media is just short of a ZERO fail rate (maybe 2-3 lost out of 200-300 DVDs and many hundreds of CDRs - honest, it's been that good).
    Apple branded DVD-R/-RW media compatible with x2/x4/x8 (I have an x2 but it's been fine using x8) IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I've dug through Apple stores, Best Buy, online stores, eBay, MacMall, J&R Electronics, etc. and nothing.
    So, does anyone else with one of these slower burning Superdrives have any recommendations for other branded media that they've found works successfully?
    Thanks - I'm desperately trying to complete backup of a 30,000+ track audio library to DVD and this is really the wrong time to find the only media that worked is no longer marketed.

    Sorry to hear that, but there's surprising hope: you want to shop by manufacturer, not Brand. Indeed, check www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm. Apple sold Mitsubishi discs. These are currently sold as Mitsubishi-Kagaku Media (MKM) by Verbatim & Infiniti (of England). You can shop by 'brand' locally, if you rewrite the 'brand' table on 'digitalfaq' by replacing the manufacturer by those manufacturers it subcontracts to (I assume the worst). :-[ Sony, Kodak, Panasonic, & Verbatim sell only the best, often Taiyo Yuden: reportedly the best manufacturer! But Taiyo Yuden can be bought directly from such internet stores as www.supermediastore.com/, where 200 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs in black, plastic sleeves are currently on sale for $40: that's US$ 0.20 each. Internet superstore like this are supposed to list the media codes, but all I've ever found is MKM listed. Other codes just list the brand's name: some brands don't even manufacture discs, and others that manufacture even the best discs subcontract to poor manufacturers when the company is in need. Taiyo Yuden doesn't subcontract. If you buy a mystery brand (which I don't believe is economical), check the return policy: they will replace discs that fail from visible damage, but who has the time for that? As a final note, many drives burn my MKM001s at 8x (because, I suspect, they consulted Verbatim when writing their firware table), whereas my LaCie writer (Samsung OEM) writes it at 2x (because, I suspect, they more responsibly consulted MKM for their table). If you burned Apple's DVD-Rs at 8x, check with Apple or http://www.cdfreaks.com/ and ask what speed your drive will burn the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R or the Verbatim DVD-RW, claimed to burn at 4x and currently selling for about US$1.00 each. I've a list of reputable internet stores selling blank media which I initially found, then added to from Germany (which are bilingual stores) & France (which wouldn't think of it). Apple likely prefers I offer such lists by e-mail. You're welcom to write, from a .Mac alias. PS. Check out 'Office Depot' brand on the first website.

  • What is the content of Windows 8 Backup media DVD?

    Does anyone know what is on the Window 8 Backup media DVD provided by Microsoft?

    Hi,
    Seems that you've already created a installation media using the ISO for Windows 8, the media now has all necessary files to start Windows, you can start your PC from the DVD to repair the system.
    According to your description, it also likes a power supply issue, so you can check your battery performance as well.

  • Problem recording to DVD from DVR

    I am having a problem setting the recording speed when recording from DVR to DVD.
    When recording directly from the TV (either manually or programmed), I set the recording speed using the REC MODE button on the remote and it works well.
    When I record from DVR I set the recording speed the same way but the recording stops after 30 minutes. I was able to get around this by pressing the RECORD button on the set enough times to get it to register the desired speed.
    I find this very awkward (and unnecessary). Is there something obvious that I am missing?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I think you might be a little confused.
    REC MODE is only for setting speed. Multiple times being pressed keeps changing the recording speed.
    REC is only for actual recording. Multiple times being pressed increases the amount of time to record by 30 minutes.

  • Recording a DVD 8.5 Gig problems

    Hi guys yesterday i wanted to record all my music library which I have about 6.5 gigs of music and I was getting an error can someone tell me these error I have a lacie external DVD burner its a D2 DVD+_RW drive it records dual layer at 8 x max and normal 4.7 at speeds of 16x, but I put in a new batch of verbatim dvd dual disk they are plus also supported for my lacie drive also using toast light that came with my lacie the first error I was getting was *interface error -50* and the second error was more extensive this is the error *(the drive reported an error Sense key= illegal request sense code= 0x30, 0x05 cannot write medium incompatible format)*
    and when i put in the apple superdrive it would spit it out before it even pops up the question what I want to do with the DVD I just put inside the appledrive slot.

    I didn't know of any 8X DL burning. The most recent Verbatim +R DL discs I bought are still 2.4X.
    The Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4X DVDs have a yellow box on the package that gives a higher speed rating for compatible drives. Recent Pioneer drives will burn them at 8X.

  • Recording a DVD with LG DVD Recorder and FIOS Standard Set Top Box

    I have FIOS Standard Set Top Box, a Sony TV, and an LG DVD Recorder. I cannot figure out how to record a TV program on my LG DVD Recorder. I have 3 remotes: a FIOS Remote, an LG DVD Recorder Remote and a Sony TV Remote. What remote/s should I use, and in what order?  Thanks.

    1) Connect coax (cable) wire from the wall to the RF input on the back of the STB.
    2) Connect coax (cable) from the cable out (might say "to TV/VCR") on the back to the STB to the cable in on the back of the TV.
    3) Connect composite (red, yellow, white) wires from the back of the STB to the input of the DVD player.
    4) Connect composite (red, yellow, white) wires from the back of the DVD player to the back of the TV.
    Let me know if any of those aren't possible based on your equipment. The SD STB (QIP 2500) has very few outputs so there are not a lot of options for a setup like this).
    In order to record a program, you will have to do the following:
    -Set the STB to whatever channel you want to record and keep it on. You will not be able to change the channel, because the DVD player will be recording whatever the STB outputs (the same feed the TV gets). With FiOS, it is not possible to have a DVD do the tuning for you, because it is an all-digital signal and most DVD players can only tune to analog chs 1-99.
    -Set the DVD player channel to "input" or something of the like. This will get your DVD player to show the signal from the STB.
    -Set your TV channel to composite input. This will show you whatever the DVD player is getting from the STB.
    -If you want to watch normal TV without the DVD player, you can turn your TV to Ch. 3 or 4 and get the feed from the STB without having to turn on your DVD player.
