Base packages orphaned ?

Today i thought about cleaning my system form unused packages, so i ran pacman -Qe (output below) to find orphaned packages.
from man pacman :
-e, --orphans
List all packages that were explicitly installed (ie, not pulled in as a dependency  by  other packages) and are not required by any other packages.
some of the packages that were listed : sysvinit, initscripts, grub, man , PACMAN may fit the first part of the description but not the second part.
Do you think i should file a bug report ?

Personally, i would answer NO to that question.
If more people feel the same, what would be the easiest way to change it?
I agree...
IMHO, with current pacman behaviour "ophaned" should be changed to "explicitly installed".
Here is my understanding of what should be called orphaned package:
1) user installs package A, which requires packages B and C,
2) user installs package D, which requires package C,
3) after few days user decides to remove package A, but typed -R instead of -Rs, so only package A is removed, packages B and C were skipped by Pacman,
Now, package B is orphaned because it was installed as a dependency and now is not required by any other package.
Package C is not orphaned, because it is still needed by package D.
Package D should be treated by Pacman as "explicitly installed", not "orphaned".
I think there should be two different command-line options for Pacman: one for explicitly installed packages and another one for orphaned packages.

    Hi Guys,
I'm having some issues updating the device packages for my RME 4.3.1 install.
I've downloaded and tried to update the 'Cat3560.zip' package via the GUI, but the job fails with the above error.
I pulled up the PSU.log and found the following:

  • [Solved] Error upon selecting "base" package during install process

    Hey guys,
I got stuck in the install process. the following issue never occured to be before.
Upon selecting the base package during install and pressing "OK", i recieve the following error:
    ERROR: check_is_in needs a non-empty needle as $1 and a haystack as $2!(gote: check_is_in '' 'base')
and that throws me out of the installation process.
A google search on the error message only returned sites where the responsible script is postet.
I am installing arch linux on a lenovo x220, on a seperate ext4 partition.

  • LMS3.1 psu problem - Consistency check failed for base package ...AG

    Hello,
We've got a package updater problem with a LMS3.1 installation.
    1. After trying to update RME Device packages from GUI we got a message that LibCommon-v2.3.2 is needed
    2. We tried to update LibCommon from CLI using psucli.bat, see below
    3. We found a discussion in this forum, simular to this problem with the hint to reinstall the RME, what we did but with no improvement
    4. We deinstalled, reboot, did a new installation of LMS3.1. But the problem still exists, with same message. We need the PSU, because most of our devices will be managed after device package update only.
Updating of each package brings warnings with pseudo package names, as ImageAG, MemoryAG and not with hints to real missing packages:
    C:\lms\bin>psucli -p rme -install -src C:\install\lm31-updates\ LibCommon
WARNING: LibCommon(2.3.2):Consistency check failed for base package ImageAG
see also the psu.log containing all tryes of package updates
The problem goes a little bit in this direction, but with a new reinstallation as well:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/669047#669047
    What can we do?
    thx for hints, Steffen

When you install LMS on Windows, there are some recommended steps to take to ensure the installation is a problem free as possible:
Set the per-user and global TEMP and TMP environment variables to short values (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP)
    Disable all anti-virus software
Disable Windows Data Execution Protection (DEP)
Login to the server as a local Adminitrator
Install from original, locally attached media
NEVER abort the installation after the installer says not to
Based on the symptoms described here, I'm guessing at least the first item was not done.  TAC has a procedure to recover a bad RME package repository, but if the base installation is problematic, doing so would be moot.  If you suspect the installation isn't 100% (beyond the package repository), uninstall, then follow the above steps to reinstall.
If you think the problem is just with the RME package repository, contact TAC, and they can provide you a good, up-to-date repository to jump start things for you.

  • Opening VI's written in Full with the Base package

So I wrote a program in the Labview "Full" Development package. We are sending the source code to one of our vendors so they can build a similar test system to test their parts before they ship them to us.
The vendor understandably want to spend as little as possible on this but they also need to be able to modify the VI's for their test equipment. So they are wanting to only purchase the Labview "Base" package. I have looked through the differences and the only thing I see that they will not have that I used is "Event" structures. I only used one of two in a couple sub-vi's.
Will they be able to open and modify these vi's to change them back to a more "standard" method with the "Base" package? Or will I have to modify them before I send it?

I would say that the having the event structure is the "more standard method".  Unfortuanetly, the Base package is a bit crippled by not having them.
They should be able to open your VI with the event structure.  I think they can even run it just fine.  The only problem is that they won't be able to do any modifications to the event structure itself like add another event case, modify the properties of an event case, or add a new event structure.  Any modifications they make to the VI will have to be limited to other code.
Not 100% sure because I have never tried using the Base package before, but that is what I remember reading several years ago in other forum threads.

  • Install base package dictionary for nokia 5800

hi all.i have nokia 5800.i download persian package distionary from nokia web site.i tried to install it but it is an error. i get the message " install the base package first " .i serched in nokia web site but didnt fine the base package.how can i fix this problem?
    thanks

Hello! I've the same problem with you! But i just fixed it Sorry, my mother language isnt english, but i try my best to let you understand what i want to say. Hope you understand my english
-Check the version of your mobile first -- click *#0000#, see if your version is it 21.0.101? Cuz your mobile need to update to this version 21.0.101 for supporting the dictionary. I think your mobile is in .0.009 version, right? Please bear in mind that the only way to solve the problem ''install the base package first'' , is to update your mobile version to 21.0.101 version! The problem will be solved!
-Please install the mini disc in your computer and finish the installation. After that you have to restart your computer. Then use the USB cable and connect to your mobile, and click the icon ''Nokia software updater'' which will be shown on the desktop after the disc installation.
-Just follow the steps to update all relating software. You have nothing to do but just to wait for the updating.
-When all software are finished installing, it will tell you that your mobile is now updated to version 21.0.101.
-Then you can install again your dictionary now! Its easy! ^-^
    Hope this could help you!
    Cheers~~

  • LMS3.1 psu problem - Consistency check failed for base package

    Hi all,
I tried to install the following packges for CiscoView 6.1.9:
    Rtr2900.cv50.v2-0.zip
    Rtr3900.cv50.v2-0.zip
but it gives me the following error:
Consistency check failed for base package NGMARShare
There are no Packages to be installed.
I uninstalled all packages and installed them again after I copied these two packages in the packages sources folder but it failed again.
    Any one can help?
    Thanks

the new package you try to install depends on a package that you don't have
    DEPENDENT PACKAGE
    =================
    DtShare V1.5 (DtShare.cv50.v1-5.zip)
this can be seen from the error message you got
"Consistency check failed for base package DtShare"
my advice is to read the "Release Information" for the packages you try to install
you can find the Release Information in the same page of the download.
    hope this helps,
also it's better to update all the device packages if your server have internet connectivity from CS > Software Center > device update.

  • CVI 2009 Base Package won't activate CVI 8.1

I own a license for CVI 2009 Base Package, which is activated and works correctly.  A customer of ours requires that we use CVI 8.1.
When I launch CVI 8.1, I first got an evaluation period, but now I'm unable to launch at all since the evaluation is expired.
I already tried removing my cvi_base_pkg_080100.lc and downloading the new one from NI's site (http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/78/lang/en).
License manager shows that the license is installed correctly:

    Louis,
Thanks for cluing me into how NILM works with NI software.  I didn't realize that it was linked as a static library.  I had seen in the past when NI moved to WinVista-compliant paths that licenses didn't need to be in the old folders and that software pre-change and post-change worked equally well with the new folders, so I had guessed that it was all handled by the NILM runtime.
    Nick,
This may not be a reproduceable case.  I wish I could tell you my install order...but unfortunately this machine isn't that clean.  I think the order goes something like this, but I'm not completely certain:
    Install CVI 7.1 (eval)
    Install CVI 2010 (eval)
    Install CVI 8.1 (eval)
    Install TestStand 4.2.1 (eval)
Install TestStand 2010 beta (beta license)
    License CVI 2010 & CVI 7.1
    Install LabVIEW 2010 (full)
Uninstall TestStand 2010 (after beta expires)
    Uninstall TestStand 4.2.1
I originally had all of the usual license files for CVI, but I removed the extraneous ones (full/debug/etc.) as part of my debugging to make sure they weren't interferring in some way. I still have those licenses, they're just in a subfolder called 'old' within the Licenses folder.
My UAC is set to "Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop)".
I'm logged in as "VIRGINIA\Josh" (VIRGINIA is the name of our local domain), and I'm an administrator.
If you can't reproduce this, and it's not immediately obvious what's causing it, don't spend too much time at it. I'm worried it's an interaction between the TestStand beta license expiring, and the CVI license being in eval at that time.  I can work around it for now (I can write the code on my machine where I have better monitors and then compile it on a test machine where it licenses correctly).  We're also considering moving to Win7 x64 by the end of the year, so I'll have to re-install everything then anyway.

    Howdy Biswajit,
The IMAQ and Vision ActiveX controls you are using with Visual Basic 6 do not install with Measurement Studio. They are installed when you install the IMAQ software and include support for Visual Studio 6. Upgrading to Measurement Studio 8.0.1 will have no effect on your IMAQ controls since they are not related to one another. Purchasing Measurement Studio Professional or Enterprise packages allows you Visual Studio 6 support for other ActiveX components. Refer to this link for a list of ActiveX components included in those packages.
If you are asking about using the ActiveX controls in .NET, then take a look at this KnowledgeBase entitled Do NI-IMAQ and NI Vision Support Microsoft Visual Studio .NET?
    Hope this clarifies things!

  • Base Package Installation Fails

I've heard great things about archlinux, and my ubuntu install was getting mucked up with all the alphas i was installing through means other than apt (lols! apt!).  So I decided to have a shot at installing it last night.  I grabbed the 2007.08.1 BASE iso, burnt it, yes i checked the md5sum.
Installation went fine up until I said "Install packages": it came back with the following:
error: 'acl': not found in sync db
Yes, acl is the first package on the list, and yes, unselecting it causes the same error with the next package on the list.
I made sure to say DONE and not cancel when partitioning & setting mountpoints, and i could write to /mnt fine from TTY2, so I don't have a clue what the problem is.  I tried FTP install, then found out about the repo change.
Any ideas? TIA for any help.

    Hi,
you could test the new isos. They are just RCs, but they should be usable.
You can find them here for both architectures: http://www.archlinux.org/~tpowa/rc-iso/

  • Packages to install over the base packages

I have a KDE MOD arch installation and I have installed lots of packages, my question is how can I find a list of packages which I can install over the base install so that I can get all the programs installed which I have now....
for example i want to install the base arch install and then do something like
pacman -Sy xorg firefox truecrypt etc etc..
Please advice, I have tried various pacman commands but iam unable to get what i need.
    Thanks,

For explicitly installed packages only, use:
    pacman -Qe | cut -d' ' -f1 >pkglist
You have to bare in mind that foreigners (packages not in core/extra/community) will give you problems though...
To filter such packages out you could do:
    pacman -Qm | cut -d' ' -f1 >foreigners
    grep -vf foreigners pkglist >toinstall
    Hope this helps!

  • [AUR] Packages orphaned?

    Hello,
I'm a bit curious about my packages in AUR. I've seen today, that quite a lot (20) packages of mine got orphaned, as "perl-algorithm-annotate". This module is NOT in aur by an other user, and NOT in current/extra/community.
Yes, it points to an invalid URI, since CPAN once more changed the uris of the "module" pages... Is that the reason why you actually orphan? And why orphan, and not just drop me a message? I'd have worked it off, changing all those packages... but this action by (which TU ever) is quite strange.
Since it was not me who orphaned them - tell me, why are they orphaned?
    Yours,
    STi

Many of them have been moved to [community] and they are automatically orphaned when this happens, they will be adopted by the TU that merged them to [community] shortly.
Xterminus is the TU in question and he has long maintained a massive perl repo which is automtically updated.  He has now combined this with the AUR/[community] to provide over 100 perl pkgs he can easily provide more too.
He has apologised for basically muscling in on other peoples perl pkgs but because it was an automated process it would have been very hard for him to contact all you individually.
Here are links to the two posts he made to the TU list:

  • List of base packages

Can anyone provide or know the list of the packages that pacman would upgrade after a new installation, I need it because the system I shall be installing it does  not have a net connection hence I would be downloading the packages manually.

    karol wrote:
That obviously depends which packages you "freshly installed".
'pacman -Syup' is what you need.
Updating Arch w/o a network conection is a PITA, because first you have to update the sync DBs and then compare them with the local DB. There are some threads about moving the DBs around to a computer that has a connection and back.
"freshly installed" the fresh installation of Arch.

  • Peak Detection with Base package

I'm constrained by a budget so I can't purchase the analysis package

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, the NI home page tells me that th
    ey use a
least square quadratic fit to find the peaks. I'm not sure on how to
implement that. I'll do a web search on that one. I'm not dealing with
a very noisy signal so I don't think that I need to do a moving
average. The amplitude filter seems pretty easy, I just compare each
point to a preset threshold. However my peaks are composed of more
than one sample so each peak gives me a bunch of "true" values. I only
want one count per peak. The way I thought of doing it was using
hysteresis and starting a subroutine when the upper limit boolean went
hi, then resetting the subroutine when the lower limit boolean went
hi. So essentially i need to have labview look for a high, THEN look
for a low, THEN reset over and over again until the sample array is
finished. I'd love to work on this for days but I've already put too
    much thought into it.

  • Package in group base containing systemd?

    Hi,
I'm building an install CD to install an ArchLinux system with openrc.
As a first attempt I just wrote a script removing all the systemd-stuff and installing openrc. However I'm not happy with it, because why install all the stuff just to remove it again?
So I looked at just changing the
    pacstrap
    script.
One way to do it would be to just pass the list of required packages to the
    pacman -Sy
command. However I'd like to work as closely as possible with the original
    pacstrap
script. Just leave out the package containing systemd and then installing the packages required for openrc.
But which of these packages from the Base Group is the one to omit?
These are the packages to be selected:
