I am new here,
I am trying to add metadata in a pdf file using XMP SDK, actually I need to edit a produced PDF to put three lines of text as metadata, and read it programatically again.
Can I do this?
Is there a Dot Net flavour or managed code that can be called from dot net?
Can you give me a tutorial the uses the sdk from VS.Net (as unmanaged or managed code)?
Is there a command line tool in case there is no dot net version?
Is there a third part lib that ease editing metadata in PDF file?

Microphone placement is crucial: looking in the forums in the Sound on Sound website would be a good place to start.
With cardioid pattern mics like the Shures you're using you have to beware of the proximity effect, which means that if your sound source is too close to the mic the bass frequencies will be disproportionately emphasised. So you may need to back away from the mic a little when recording your vocals.
The quality of your recordings will improve dramatically if you use a condenser mic rather than dynamic mics (both the SM57 and SM58 are dynamic, or moving coil designs). Usable quality studio condenser mics are much cheaper than they once were, with some very respectable models costing a lot less than your Shures (which are really stage mics): Samson is a manufacturer worth investigating for the very cheap end of the market.
This is a very large subject (you can do a PhD in it) and the GB2 support forum is no more than a starting place for this sort of information. The SoS link I gave you above is probably the best single source on the web for recording techniques.

System Backup: Need basic guidance
I just got my first external hard drive (500GB Seagate FreeAgent)and really need guidance from scratch.
I need to back up not only my computer but most importantly, photos and home movies.
1. Do I need to format the external hard drive?
2. How do I backup everything?
3. Is there a way for the computer to automatically do this with Mac OS 10.4.11?
4. Do I need to partition for any particular reason if saving photos & movies are my priority?

Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

You can also simply clone your startup drive to your external drive using the Restore option of Disk Utility:

Destination means the backup drive.
Source means the startup drive.
Backup drives should be kept separate from data storage drives. If it's you intent to use this drive for both then you should partition the drive. However, backup should be your priority. If yo save files and have no backup, then when those files are lost, erased, or damaged they are gone for good. Keeping backup drives separate from storage drives also protects against drive failure. -
Please help with basic guidance on editing a DVD on my iMac
I am trying to transfer old VHS tapes of my grandchildren onto DVDs. Currently, I am using a Sony Video Cassette Recorder/DVD Recorder model RDR-VX530 for the dubbing. What I want to know is how to edit a completed DVD (DVD-RW or DVD-R) on my iMac. I have never even tried this and am not sure how to even begin or what is possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.Shouldn't this person be able to put it to DVD. Load it, and using iMovie to download the movie? There they can mess around with it, and re-burn it to disk?
Personally, I use a media converter. I've convert VHS, Laser Disks, and other things like 8 tracks, and cassettes. My media converter is a Sony. You can find them on eBay. Just search Sony Media Converter. I love this unit, and I will never get rid of it. I have had to buy Adapters (For the newer iMac) from time to time but, it's worth it. -
Basic Guidance for a new Mac User
How do I delete an entire application that was downloaded and then installed via the downloaded installer...just move to the trash and empty? I'm talking about the downloaded file as well as the application in its entirety.
If I installed Windows 7 via Boot Camp...can I restore my OS X back to factory specs without affecting the 7 side?You can drag an app to the trash to delete it. It may have created some pref files also. These will need to be manually located and deleted (unless the software comes with an uninstall option).
Using the bootcamp assistant, you can easily remove the bootcamp partition and restore the hard drive back to normal without affecting the mac installation.

Streaming basics - reading large file from RESTful API

My command of PowerShell is pretty rudimentary, though I have written a number of scripts. In a recent example, I was trying to redirect the output of my firm's RESTful API - a small .txt file - into a file, using | out-file <path and
file>. THat worked
just fine. However, when I tried to do this with a docx or pdf file, the result was that I ended up with a small file that was
unopenable.
I gather what I need to do is stream the content to a file, but I can't quite see how that is done in Powershell. The files might be
many MB in size and take upwards of 30 seconds to transfer.
Any basic guidance on how to approach this would be appreciated. Thanks -

(Acess/ASP VB). i want users to be able to go to a persons detail
page, and check a box to add them to a list of people they want to
meet (up to 30 people). finally i want them to go to a selection
page where the list of records will appear and they can then submit
that orm (which will incorporate a profile of themselves).
i guess this means using session variables but not really
done this before. would really appreciate any guidance on the basic
outline of how i go about setting up the selection page and how i
transfer checkbox selections to it as a session.

some
statistics.
Oh yeah...if you expect this to become popular you will soon

Access. Access is actually fine for LOW traffic sites.

Trying to access SharePoint Site, Hosted in Azure, from public Internet
I am looking for basic guidance on how to browse a SharePoint 2013 Environment, Hosted in
Azure, from a PC not located on the same network. In other words from an internet connected PC. I believe this was working until some Azure or Windows update took place, and now I can no longer connect to my environment
via SharePoint Designer, IE, or ShareGate migration tool. (I am NOT looking to open up a public facing website with Anonymous access.)
Currently when I try to access http://Server_Name.cloudapp.net I end up looking at a IIS 8 Splash Screen.

As Microsoft Azure changes public virtual IP address every time you turn on your virtual machine, please make sure you check the new address then assign it to SharePoint AAM again.

I have a existing internet connection thru a motorola SBG900 cable modem connected to my imac, i purchased a macbook pro but the signal is not strong, so i purchased a airport express but i dont know how to install it, do i have to install the CD on my macbook pro or the imac. i live in a four bed room house distance between the imac and macbook pro is around 25 -30 feet.

ISync can't be launched on this computer
This is almost a follow on from my first post raised on 24th Dec 2010, and may shed more light on the iSync issue - there's some great mac-minds reading these; I'm not really one of them, so some basic guidance would be ideal, for someone to nail the problem would be perfect.
1. every day or so, I get a warning message stating that the syncserver has unexpectedly quit, with option to cancel, relaunch, report to apple - this has been happening for a few weeks. Never gave it a second thought, not really sure when or why it started
2. now an iPhone4 owner, I'm wanting to sync between MacBook and phone, but when i plug the iPhone in i get "iTunes can not sync information with the iPhone as syncing has been disabled on this computer. Do you want to enable syncing?" Clearly I select 'yes', but get the warning "synching cannot be enabled on this computer" with an 'ok' or 'override'. When I click override, iTunes goes through the 5 stages of synching and has successfully loaded apps & music. Fine, but I want to sync contacts, calenders, bookmarks etc, so I select these options on iTunes and click 'apply'.... I get the same "iTunes can not sync...." followed by the 'override' option. iTunes then goes to a 1-step sync process and freezes, displaying "iTunes could not sync info to the iPhone because a sync session could not be started" From here I can only click 'OK', with the final status in iTunes suggesting sync is complete and OK to disconnect. -- none of the sync requests have begun.
3. I'm getting a **** of a lot of freezing / colour swirl lately - all applications seem impacted and switching between applications can be arduous - could this be linked?

In India, depreciation on assets for the purpose of computation of net income as per the Income Tax (IT) Act 1961 is calculated over a block of assets instead of individual assets as allowed under the Companies Act 1956. Asset acquisitions and retirements are managed over the block level. The IT Act prescribes certain rates of depreciation to be used under the Written down Value (WDV) method over these asset blocks to compute depreciation.
The following are the customization settings that may be followed in the R/3 system in order to manage your assets in the income tax depreciation area.
1. Copy the standard chart of depreciation 0IN as provided by SAP and create your own chart of depreciation.
2. Use the depreciation area 15 for the purpose of management of assets under the IT Act. Make it statistical in nature. (Reference Transaction Code: OADB). Do not check the box negative net book value.
3. Specify that the Income Tax depreciation area takes over the APC from the book but not make it identical (Reference Transaction Code: OABC).
4. Create an asset class for the purpose of income tax blocks. This asset class will be used to create only group assets. (Reference Transaction Code: OAOA)
5. Specify that the depreciation area for income tax can be managed only for group assets. (Reference Transaction Code: OAYM). This would mean that depreciation for this depreciation area would be computed only at group asset level.
6. Specify that the asset class defined in (b) above will be used for creating group assets only. (Reference Transaction Code: OAAX)
7. Two period control methods (IT and NL) have been defined in the system for determination of start or the end of depreciation calculation at the time of a fixed asset acquisition or retirement. You may use these period control methods while creating the depreciation keys for the purpose of IT depreciation.
Calendar assignments have been made for the above mentioned period control methods in order to reflect valuation requirements as per the Income Tax Act (Transaction Code: OAVH). You may create your own period control methods depending on the fiscal year variant you use. The period control methods supplied are based on the fiscal year variant V3.
8. Depreciation Keys: The following depreciation keys have been created in the system. They correspond to the income tax blocks that are prescribed under Indian tax laws. They are as below:

Can't use private wifi or ethernet but Wifi with F...

We've had a Homehub3 for two years now with no problems. Last week there was a day's electricity power down locally for maintenance and when the power came back on the internet connection was broken. No wifi or ethernet worked but I could connect fine through all our devices via wifi with FON.
As background at home we have iphones, ipads, macbook and pc laptops connected to the wifi as well as PVR, Xbox and powerline routers plugged in to the ethernet, plus an ethernet cable to connect to laptops where required (for scenarios like this).
BT spent an hour and a half with me trying to resolve this before sending me a replacement Homehub 3. We received this yesterday, plugged it in and connected the various wifi devices. The situation is almost the same except one ipad does connect directly through the private wifi network (the other doesn't), and one iphone also does (again, the other doesn't). Nothing works through ethernet, but again, everything works via wifi with FON.
Obviously we've done lots of rebooting and resetting of hubs and equipment (with delay time before turning back on) but to no avail.
Any suggestions would be widely appreciated but please be aware I'm not particularly technical and a bit of a numpty so basic guidance would be a big help.

I did the pin in the back/factory reset four times with no joy on the previous hub and deleted all connections. I can give it a try with the new hub that has arrived to see if that makes a difference but as it's a totally different and new hub I don't think that will make a difference as all of the connections were new anyway.
Ethernet made no difference in the past after this. I can try a different cable but the other ethernet cables that connect the Xbox and PVR aren't working either so I don't think the issue is isolated to the cable.
I haven't reset the powerline hubs so can look into that.
I'll try all of the suggestions after work later and post back but as they're all things I've tried and we've got a brand new hub I'm not confident it will make a difference so any alternative suggestions I can try are also very welcome.

Can a PDF be made to by default print with "flip on short edge" set if printed double-sided?
I'm producing a 4-side, 1-sheet PDF booklet download. Our main target audience is professionals (not necessarily tech-profecient) who will download it and print it on regular office printers. Most modern office printers can print double-sided, so we expect people to print it on one sheet, fold it in the middle, and use it like that.
This gives us a problem: the default setting for double-sided printing in Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat appears to be to flip on the long edge. For a folded booklet, this results in the centre pages printing upside down. I, personally, know how to change this setting - but our audience won't, and we've found that even within our own tightly controlled office network, the options for changing this setting are in different places for different people - so giving everyone who downloads it instructions on how to change the setting will be difficult. I'm tech profecient enough to confidently poke around in the various printer settings dialogs until I find it, but most of our audience won't be, and many people will get it wrong even with basic guidance telling them what to look for.
The "Flip on long edge" default appears to be based on the assumption that printed documents are to be held and read portrait, regardless of how they are printed. Is there any way to set a PDF to instruct Adobe Reader etc that this document is to be read landscape (or, folded), so that it can know to flip on the short edge by default for this particular document?
I'm not fussy about what software I use to create or edit the PDF. I'm using InDesign at the moment but will happily use Acrobat, or even hack the code of the PDF with a text editor, if that's what makes it work. I'm asking on the Adobe Reader board since it's not so much a question of how to set this, as whether there is anything in Adobe Reader that is actually capable of interpreting and acting on such information from a PDF.
Another type of answer that could solve my problem is, is there some universal way to set "Flip on short edge" where the steps the user follows are the same regardless of whether they are using Reader or Acrobat, PC or Mac, and regardless of specific printer drivers or printer software?You should post here for Apple to get your feedback:

Right now i have an access point:
1/ A mercury router (cheap and old)
2/ Airport Express
Do you advice me to use it to replace my cheap old router (mercury) or to pair it with this main old router ? (however i tried to without any success)
3/ Time Capsule
Can i use it to relay the signal from the Airport Express to extend the range of the wifi?
Can i use it to stream music to my B/W M1 speakers directly ? (I will connect by USB the BW M1 to the time capsule) and would like to be able to play music this way. Is this in anyway possible ?

you should attach your modem to your time capsule: your time capsule will act as not only your time machine but also your main wireless transmitter.
you set it up using "Airport Utility" which is inside the "utilites" folder, which is inside your applications folder.
this connects your mac wirelessly to the internet.
to stream music to your speakers you then set up the airport plug to (a) join the existing network (which you set up on the time capsule) and then (b) set it up to stream music to your speakers. again, this is done using "airport utility". do it AFTER you have set up the time capsule.
you will then be able to use itunes to stream music to your speakers. from itunes on your computer you will be able to chose from the bottom right hand side of the window whether you play the music on your computer or wirelessly into your B+W speakers...
some notes:
1. you won't be able to connect the airport plug by USB to your speakers as the airport plug doesn't have a USB output. It has only analogue and optical.
2. although your time capsule has USB you cannot stream music into it or through it. there's some basic guidance here:

3. you may find that the sound quality [if you are playing apple lossless files or wav files) isn't as good as if the speakers were connected directly to your mac via USB. this should be especially noticable because your speakers are so good!
if the music you play is only mp3 or the stuff purchased from itunes then it shouldn't make too much of a difference.
4. keep an eye out on the B+W website: there may come a time when you won't even have to use the airport plug, and you will be able to stream music straight to the speakers. i know that B+W have just done that with the new Zepellin speaker that they make.
