Basic line chart help

I am relatively new Crystal reports 11 and am having problems creating a lsimple ine chart. I am trying to trend two types of network errors over time. The type of errors are in one field and the values are 1 or 2, I have two formulas, one converts a 1 to alarm and another to convert 2 to warn. I thought this would be simple but no mater what I've tried I end up with one chart that plots two lines that have the same values (instead of one for alarms and one for warns) or two charts that correctly plot the events over time. I need both events on one chart to compare them. There must be something fundamental I'm missing.
In the chart expert I have, on change of show @Alarm and @Warn. I've tried it with and without groups.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tonus,
Try just creating 1 formula instead of 2.
Try this:
if {field.value}=1 then
"Alarm" else
"Warn"
Now use this formula in your chart expert.
I hope this helps,
Regards,
Zack H.

  • Help - SVG Line Chart - ORA-20001 line_chart error Parse error ORA-00911

    Gurus,
    Need help.
I am trying to plat multiple series in a SVG line chart but am repeatedly getting line_chart error eventhough SQL queries work perfectly in sql workshop/sqlplus etc. How do I get past this error.
Sample queries I am using to plot line chart are
    select link, col1, value from (select null link, col1, col2 value from xy);
    select link, col1, value from (select null link, col1, col3 value from xy);
    xy is a table with three number columns col1, col2 & col3.
    Thanks in advance

Try taking the semicolon ";" off the end of the SELECT statements.

I need a small help from you guys.
I want to do a line chart example in flash cs3 or in flex. Actually my requirement is getting the data from external file ie xml and with that i want to display a line chart with some time interval just like stock exchange charts for example.
I have to do this either in flex or in flash cs3. i dont have any ideas how to proceed. can anyone help me out on this. i need it asap.

    hi
flex has charting components you can use. see: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/mx/charts/LineChart.htm l (example at the bottom of page)

  • Please help me to draw a special line Chart!

Hi, I am programming to draw a line chart with X-axis as timepoint (for example, t1, t2, t3, t4, ...) and Y-axis as values (v1, v2, v3,v4,...) and have a line connecting all the (t, v) point. The issue I have encountered is that when a value (for example, v3) is missing at the timepont(t3), I still want the timepoint to show on X-axis but the connectiong line to stop at (t2, v2) and start again at (t4, v4). Is it possible to draw such a line chart? Is there any 3rd party supporting it? If so, may you please give me hints and help me out of this? Thanks alot.

  • Help with creating basic flow-charting app

    Hello,
Warning: I am a Total Flex Newbie, but experienced programmer (C#, Ruby/Rails, ...)
I am coming up to speed with Flex and want to dive in and improve my proficiency by creating a basic flow-charting app.
The app will consist of a canvas plus a limited set of resize-able objects that will reside in a "tools" container.   These objects can be selected, dragged onto the canvas, connected to each other using a "connector" object -- either straight or right-angled lines, with the ability to be moved around the canvas while retaining their connections.
    That's it.
I have been searching the forums and the web for pointers on how to start; but while I have found many related posts, I have not found enough to get me started.
I would appreciate any pointers to example code or tutorials on how to approach/get started on this app.
    Thanks in advance!
    Dondi.

Hi there, you can check out Chet Haase app Top Drawer, this app has a lot of the functionality that you want I think,

  • Help with Bar & Line Chart on dual Axes

I'm attempting to build a chart with 2 series
    Series 1 is a total
Series 2 is a percent value
I want Series 1 to be a column and series 2 to be a line
    Here is what I tried
right click on the Bar that Iwant to display as line.
Select the series option and then select "Line" from the drop down.
But when I do this both series change even though they on different Axes.
    What did I miss?
    Thanks
    Steve

you should first create a line chart, then click the series and turn to 'riser'.
    Thx, Hao

  • Help! extremely small labels in Line Chart

    Hi all,
I met a problem that i've been working on for a long time.
If the SQL returned too many rows (e.g. 200+) to generate the Line Chart, the X/Y axis Labels would be too small to be recognised.
I tried whatever i can imagine, like generating much fewer labels in the PL/SQL and using a font-size 30+...
    So far, so bad.
    Any suggestion???
    Thanks you so much!!!!

    Hi,
Actually, there are many possible causes for this issue. Could you please tell me how the category labels come from? In other words, why are they all
the same? I would like to suggest you post some sample data and your chart settings here. I have created a report with chart which has duplicate horizontal axis labels. To achieve your purpose, I hide all horizontal axis labels, and then use horizontal axis
title instead of horizontal axis labels. I have uploaded my report as an example:
    With duplicate horizontal axis labels:
    http://cid-854fa6d2b7d88cc7.office.live.com/self.aspx/Work/Old.rdl
    No duplicate horizontal axis labels:
    http://cid-854fa6d2b7d88cc7.office.live.com/self.aspx/Work/New.rdl
If there is anything unclear, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,
    Albert Ye

  • 2D Line Chart question

I have Apex 3.1 . I have created a 2D Line chart with for different series (so there are 4 lines on one chart). I also have a Legend on the left side next to the chart to label whatr each line is for. In my query for those lines I have the Name for the Legend as all CAPS but it shows up as first letter capital and the rest lower case. Is there a way to force it to all upper case?
The second question I have is that underneath the legend I would like to have some type of text box were I can write a couple lines to help explain what is going on in the graph. Is there a way to do that?

You basically have only a couple of options here:
First, turn off the labels and possibly turn them into Hints. They wouldn't show on the chart, but when the user held over the data point, a tool tip would appear showing them the valuable.
Second, adjust elements of the chart. What you are really looking at here is that your data set is causing this specific issue and not the charting engine or anything like that. You could try to manually change the axis max and min to get more spacing, or you could adjust the height of the chart to get more spacing, but this may not be a viable option. You could have one set of labels above the plotted line and another set of labels below the plotted line that way the values do not overlap with anything. However, from a conceptual standpoint, it will be difficult to determine in code which line should have values above and which should have values below. When your data set changes, you may end up with labels in the wrong place if you hard code where they are at.
The current XML reference can be found at: http://www.anychart.com/products/anychart/docs/xmlReference/index.html however, that is for anychart 5. I'm looking for the link to the earlier versions...
You can use this to create custom xml where you can adjust the position of the labels.
Finally, you do not want expand the height of the chart between two points on the Y axis. That would change the structure of the chart and the visual properties of the chart and the shape of the data would be askew. You cannot do this for good reason. You can though use a logrithmic scale. In most cases though, this is not a practical solution. Data sets need to have very specific characteristics in order to be able to merit a logrithmic scale. Most queries require a simple linear scale.

  • Grouped Line Chart in Crystal 10

I need some help with a line chart that has 4 lines on it (no problem there) but such that it shows a marker for every record AND is grouped left to right (on the X-Axis) into one of 5 categories.  Basically each of the 5 X-Axis groupings can have a different number of points that will display in that section for each line.  I've tried to use the "On change of..." setting using the category field and that does exactly what I want EXCEPT the markers/lines only work against summarized data instead plotting each marker and line within the grouping.
If that doesn't make sense, here's what I want the chart to do:
There are 5 levels of a job code that are the grouping I want.  In each of those five levels, I want to show 3 lines and 4th line (as markers only) the represent the employees in each level...the lines are their level minimum, midpoint, and maximum and the markers are the actual salaries for each employee.  Each of the 5 levels will have a different number of employees.
I've also tried (successfully) to do this with 5 sub-reports side by side so that each sub-report represents one of the groups and has the variable number of employee points/lines in each grouping however this means that I have to use a fixed Y-axis scale for all 5 sub-reports.  To accommodate many different groups of jobs, this causes the line ranges to be really compressed so that there is little differentiation between the lines at the low end (minimum to maximum) and larger at the top end.
Basically I would like to find a way to do this with a single chart such that it will auto-scale the Y-axis to best display the data for that chart.  Any tricks for this would be appreciated and let me know if you need any clarifications on this...it is a mouthful.

The thing is the 5 job codes need to go across the page, side by side so that the users can see the progression from one job level to the next.  I'm already grouping on the general or short job code which might be for an Accountant let's say.  The person wants to see the 5 levels of Accountant (Entry Level, Account I, Accountant II, Accountant III, and Senior Accountant) jobs side by side with each group having 3 lines (Minimum, Midpoint, and Maximum) and a 4th line (actually showing "markers only" like a scatter chart) for each employee's salary in that job.
The whole page is like a job family (which is referred to as a "Short Job Code") with the each job level within that as groupings.  This report actually has over 100 job families (i.e. pages) of up to 5 groupings per page.
As I mentioned, I can get this to work by putting the chart in a sub-report and using that sub-report 5 times across the page.  The issue is I can't use automatic Y-axis scaling for them because each one of the 5 could decide to do its own scaling which would defeat the purpose of having them side by side.
I come really close to getting this all on one chart if I add the job level code (i.e. identifies each of the 5 levels on a page) to the top section of the Data tab in the Chart Expert as "On change of.." but then it does not show the markers for each employee's salary, but rather a summary.
My guess is I cannot do this with a single chart but will have to stick with the 5 sub-chart approach, but that is going to be rough since one job page may be in US $ and another job page may be in Yen.
THanks for the help on this.

  • Line chart showing final value only?

Is there a way to have a line chart that shows the value against the final data point only?
    eg something like this
    ----------------------74
    instead of
    1----13----28---42----74
    Thanks

Thanks I appreciate your comments and agree I will have to put some effort in, I tend to try and work things out I need by messing around when I need a specific function or have a specific thing I want to do and focus on that without perhaps learning the underling basics.
I've been spoiled by Excel, there is a lot of stuff its significantly easier (for me anyway) to do without undergoing any learning curve at all, with wizards for functions (for example) and in many cases if you right click on something you can alter it right there, rather than having to go up to the inspector and work out which of umpteen functions the bit you want to alter is hidden in. If the inspector was a person, I would have strangled them to death by now
I'm not sure if this is my Mac or what, but if I go into numbers help and type anything in, I just get the spinning thing next to the magnifying glass, but it never comes back to me. It works OK if I follow links. For example I just typed 'charts' in help and hit enter, 5 minutes later I"m still waiting. Doesn't increase my confidence I'll have to look into that and see whats going on.
Thanks to everyone for your help, the guys will be impressed with the new chart !

  • JavaFX Update Line Chart on Tab pane

    Hi all,
I am wondering can anybody help with this problem.
I have an application that can create a new tab when the LineChart FXML view is called by way of onMouseClicked event from a bar graph (using scenebuilder). However, I need this Line chart to update when the user clicks a new bar on the bar graph page to show this new data.
Initially the Line chart tab will open and display data from the first bar graph click and when I click another bar in Tab A (bar chart) if it has the same number of rows it will refresh the LineChart tab otherwise I get an error. Then if I try to load another line graph tab using a different bar graph as the source I get a child duplication error
(So tab A has a bar graph that calls tab B to represent data as a line graph, however it wont do it more then once when there is a different number of points to show)
(Also tab C, another Bar chart will not load a new tab) Exceptions below & Class detail below.
I am using clear() to empty the observable list I have which is used to populate the graph and table before it reads in the new data values
What is the proper way/ best way to dynamically add another tab and update the chart in the tab with new values? Any help would be appreciated.
I am getting the following exceptions:

    Hi all,
I am wondering can anybody help with this problem.

  • Adding New Data To Line Chart: New Data Does Not Inherit Previous Color Scheme

This has me very confused. Here's what's being done:
    Right-click on existing chart
    Select "Data..."
Add additional data in the dialog that pops up
    Click check-mark
The chart appends more data to the existing lines on the line chart, as it should, however the newly created portion of one of the lines (new data) is not the same color as the line up to that point. The line color is #0084A9, but when the new data is entered the new data on that same line is represented in an ever so slightly darker blue.
Any guesses as to why that would be happening? I can manually chage it, but that's a hassle and shouldn't necessary - I wouldn't think, anyway. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Very Best,
    Tanner Campbell

OK looked at this closer, and seen your problem  as  acolor shift from PMS to a CMYK that was slightly off.
If you want to work with Hexadecimal colors, then you need to File>> Document Color Mode >> RGB, otherwise your colors won't stick but convert to cmyk and be off.
Your graph went through some editing and got corrupted. I copied and pasted your date into a new graph, and then used the testube to apply samples to get your colors back. Will send you an email with fixed file.
That’s the strangest thing.  The color you’re seeing is #4e46ff, the color it should be is the color reflected in the legend: #0083a9
What’s extra interesting is that when I open it I see the legend color for the entire line. Then, when I add data, the section of the line that depicts the newly added data is #4e46ff …. So I have this two tone line.  It’s intriguing that you opened this on a mac and this difference was presence, I wonder if that is in anyway a clue. Maybe the original document was created in RGB and the new data is on CMYK? Thoughts?

  • What is the best way to create a SSRS 2005 Line Chart Report for a 12 month period?

I'm looking for advice on how to create a SQL Server 2005 query and line chart report for SSRS 2005.
I need to display the peak number of patients assigned to a medical practice each month for a 12 month period based on the end-user selecting a
    single month and year.
I've previously created a report that displays all patients assigned to the practice for any single month but I’m looking for advice on how to
how to produce a resultset that shows the peak number of patients each month for a 12 month period. I thought about creating a query that returns the peak count for each month (based on my previously created report which displays all patients assigned to the
practice for any single month) and then use a UNION statement to join all 12 months but I'm sure that isn't the most efficient way to do this. The other challenge with this approach (twelve resultsets combined via a UNION) is that the end-user needs to be
able to select any month and year for the parameter and the report needs to display the 12 month period based on the month selected (the month selected would be the last month of the 12 month period).
For the report I’ve previously created that displays all patients assigned to the practice for any single month, the WHERE statement filters the
    resultset on two fields:
Start Date - The date the patient was assigned to the practice. This field is never null or blank.
End Date - The date the patient left the practice. This field can be null or blank as active patients assigned to the practice do not have an End Date. When the patient
leaves the practice, the date the patient left is populated in this field.
Using these two fields I can return all patients assigned to the practice during Nov 2012 by looking for patients that meet the following criteria:
start date prior to 11/30/2012 (using the last day of the month selected ensures patients added mid-month would be included)
    AND
end date is null or blank (indicates the patient is active) OR the end date is between 11/1/2012 -11/30/2012 (returns patients that leave during the month
    selected)
Regarding the query I need to create for the report that displays the peak count each month for 12 months, I'm looking for advice on
how to count patients for each month the patient is assigned to the practice if the patient has been assigned for several months (which applies to most patients). Examples are:
John Doe has a start date of 6/01/2012 and an End Date of 10/07/2012
Sally Doe has a start date of 8/4/2012 and no End Date (the patient is still active)
Jimmy Doe has a  start of 7/3/2012 and an End Date of 9/2/2012
Given these examples how would I include John Doe in the peak monthly count each month for May - October, Sally Doe in the peak monthly count for
August - December and Jimmy Doe in the peak monthly count for July – Sept if the end-user running the report selected December 2012 as the parameter?
Given the example above and the fact I'm creating a line chart I think the best way to create this report would be a resultset that looks like
    this:
    Patient Name
    Months Assigned
    John Doe
    June 2012
    John Doe
    July012
    John Doe
    Aug 2012
    John Doe
    Sept 2012
    John Doe
    Oct 2012
    Sally Doe
    Aug 2012
    Sally Doe
    Sept 2012
    Sally Doe
    Oct 2012
    Sally Doe
    Nov 2012
    Sally Doe
    Dec 2012
    Jimmy Doe
    July 2012
    Jimmy Doe
    Aug 2012
    Jimmy Doe
    Sept 2012
From the resultset above I could create another resultset that would count\group on month and year to return the peak count for each month:
    June 2012 - 1
    July 2012 – 2
    Aug 2012 - 3
    Sept 2012 - 3
    Oct 2012 - 2
    Nov 2012 - 1
    Dec 2012 - 1
The resultset that displays the peak count for each month would be used to create the line chart (month would be the X axis and the count would
    be the y axis).
Does this sound like the best approach?
If so, any advice on how to create the resultset that lists each patient and each month they were assigned to the practice would be greatly appreciated.
I do not have permissions to create SPs or Functions within the database but I can create temp tables.
I know how to create the peak monthly count query (derived from the query that lists each patient and month assigned) as well as the line chart.
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I reviewed them shortly after they were submitted but I'm also working on other projects at the same time (hence the delayed reply).
Building a time table and doing a cross join to my original resultset gave me the desired resultset of the months assigned between dates. What I can't figure out now is how to filter months I don't want.
Doing a cross  join between my original resultset that had two dates:
    08/27/2010
    10/24/2011
and a calendar table that has 24 rows (each month for a two year period)
my new resultset looks like this:
I need to filter the rows in yellow as the months assigned for stage 3 that started on 8/27/2010 should stop when the patient was assigned to stage 4 on 10/24/2011.
You'll notice that Jan - Sept 2011 isn't listed for Stage 4 assigned on 10/24/2011 as I included a filter in the WHERE clause that states
the Months Assigned value must be greater than or equal to the date assigned value.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Creating a Line Chart using a user enter target amount.

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create a chart that will use Total Sales and Annual Target(Goal).
I get the Total sales to work just fine. It's just getting the Annual Target(Goal), which is a parameter, to come into the chart. Right now they are doing this in Excel and the Target line goes from 0 to 8,000,000.
So how do i get that to work in my Crystal Report?
So when the report is working correctly i should have a Line Chart with two Lines. Line 1 "The Target", Line 2 "Total Sales".
    Thanks

    Hi
Create a formula field and store the parameter there.
Now put this formula field in "On change of" in the Chart expert.
e.g. I have a parmeter on country and I have a chart which shows the last year sales year wise for the countries.
I create a formula field and put the below formula:
    stringvar x = {?countryparameter};
Now i put this formula field in On change of so when i run the report i select the required country.
    Hope this helps!!
