Basic math formula problems, percentage formatting

Hi!
I have a table full of data, and I'd like to calculate the percentage change from one row to the next.
I thought I could use formula like
=(J3-J2)/J2
And this works. I get result like 0.31.
I'd like to format it as percentage. Clicking on the "Format as percentage button" changes my formula and makes it invalid.
The cell value becomes:
=(Total 1.6.2009-Total 1.5.2009)/Total 1.5.2009
"Total" is the name of the column (which is actually a sum of items on the row) and "1.5.2009" is the name of the row.
Why does Numbers destroy the formula to use the names of the row and column instead of cell reference?
By the way, I can't just add " * 100" to my formula to have it be 31 instead of 0.31, that will also cause a formula syntax error.
So I'm trying to calculate percentage change from one sum cell to the sum cell on the next row, but this doesn't seem possible.
Any ideas?

I suppose there is a possibility that when you first attempted to apply Percent format to your result you made some wrong key-press. It should work correctly that way, and does on my system.
One tip; If I were you, I would turn off that "Use Header Cell Names as References" Preference. It's more trouble than it is worth. Just a gimmick in my opinion.

Formula problem in Format Editor

I'm trying to format a field so that it prints in italics if an employee is inactive. So in Format Editor, Font Tab, in the calculation screen for Style, I enter {Staff.Inactive}="T". When I check my formula, it says 'The formula result must be a number." So I change the formula to {Staff.Inactive}=1. Then, my formula check gives the error 'A string is required here.' I put the {Staff.Inactive} field on my report and it displays T's and F's. Am I doing something wrong? My 'selection' formula for the report includes the line {Staff.Inactive}="F" (subsequently commented out). And if I use the same formula in the Suppress calculation, I do not get an error. So this seems to be an issue just with certain areas. Thanks.

For the font style the return value should be the font style like crItalic or crbold and for suppress condition the return type should be boolean value.
Since the condition {Staff.Inactive}="T" returns true or false the suppress condition works.
for font style try the following
if {Staff.Inactive}="T" then
crItalic

�Math.round� appears to be a problem. Also, could you explain the purpose of �0099� . Anyway, why would 154.85 through 154.90 divided by 31 give 4,10. Also, their must be a better way, to find the average daily production. All you have to do is divided the production (whole. fractional) by the days, and display the average daily production as (whole. fractional). Any suggestions??

There are a many loose ends in your question.
First, I have never seen before a variable type called 'var'. Is it a java primitive or a class?
Next, I cannot seem to find any class that has the printx method.
When it comes to substr(-2,2), I get confused. First, I thought that it was a method of the String class, but I only got as far as substring(beginIndex, endIndex).
If you really must break the production and average into pieces, try this:

int avg_frac = (int)( (average - avg_units) * 100 );My guess is that util.printx("0099", x) formats x having two optional digits and two mandatory digits, showing 0-99 as 00-99, but allows to show numbers with three and four digits.

If you round the fraction of theese numbers multiplied by 100 ( = 99.51.. and 99.968...) you get 100, and this will be the output of printx. My guess for "4.10" is that substr(-2,2) returns the two first characters of the string, because the start index should not be zero. (According to java docs, substring throws an exception on a negative index, so what kind of class are you really using ??????)

SAP REFX – Usage of (RECN - Condition Tab ) Formula : E1 – Percentage Share in a condition.

Dear Experts,
I would like have a clarification on the usage of Formula: E1 – (Percentage Share in a condition) for a contract type in Refx - contract ( In conditions Tab ).
Lets take the scenario as below for example :
Whenever I am adding a condition ZREN - Basic Rent : XXXXXX Rs/ month.
System has to pick a second condition ( Over head charges ) as default and it should be calculated 20% of the amount as overheads on BASIC RENT amount.
This 20% should come as default ( Because user cant change this % for anything while creation of contract).
So I have adopted the config changes as below.
SPRO - Flexible Real Estate Management (RE-FX) -- Conditions and Flows -- Default Conditions -- Define Default Conditions – selected my condition group – added new entries- assigned a new condition type as my over heads –
Unit price as – 20 %
Formula: E1
Formula Parameter: selected - BASIC RENT condition ( ZREN )
Is there any other config to be done ( Like adding the Derivation rules - if need Pls Clarify) to fulfill my requirement, B cas after doing above config my overhead charges condition is not flowing by default, even after manual insertion of Over head charges condition its not taking 20 % as default.( Its asking to enter manually).
Kindly advise to get the same.

If both the conditions are added manually, the condition with E1 as the calculation formula, say ZE1- Perc Share can automatically pick up the value from ZREN - Basic Rent and do the calculation.
For this you just need to specify the condition in the parameter field in the path: Flexible Real Estate Management (RE-FX) -> Conditions and Flows -> Condition Types and Condition Groups -> Define Condition Types. Also specified in the pictorial below.
For populating default conditions at contract creation based of different parameters, you would need to implement the badi BADI_RECN_CONTRACT. You can also add additional validation such as, if ZREN - Basic Rent is added to the contract it is mandatory to add ZE1.

Problem in formatting of long text -- line break not recognized.

We have a PO smartform in our SRM system and we are facing problem with formatting of long text on the smartform for long texts maintained for the PO.
for ex, we maintain the long text as --
"this is long text for item 1.
1. this is line 1.
2. this is line 2."
On the smartform it is displayed as --
this is long text for item 1. 1. this is line 1. 2. this is line 2.
So basically, the line breaks in the text are not considered in the smartform .
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue ??

Which Std. FM are you using to fetch the PO texts? If the PO doesn't exist in your system, i'm afraid you cannot use Include Texts as mentioned by Harsh.
As an alternative you'll have to create a table & pass the text lines to it! I don't think SmartForms are not smart enough to identify new-line character.

Financial Reporting Studio: Formula for percentages in Dynamic report

Hi,
I have a formula problem in Financial Reporting Studio vers. 9.20.582. I created a dynamic report with four columns:
1. Column: Entities
Entity A, Entity B
2. Column: Accounts
Account A, Account B, Account C
3. Column A: Accounts
Data for a selected period
4. Column B: Formula
Percentage Account B to Account A and Account C to Account A per each Entity
My question is: Could I create a formula in 4th column that shows a percentage of Account B in comparison to Account A for each Entity (everything in one cell)?
Because when I use for example the Formula Percentoftotal([a], [a,1(1)]) it shows for second entity B the wrong percentages.
I hope this was understandable.

You can use the concept of multiple grid here.

Application Express 3.1 + BI-Publisher + problem with formating numbers

Hello together!
I use the Oracle BI Publisher Template Builder for Word (10.1.3.4) to generate RTF-Templates. I upload these templates in Oracle Apex (Advanced support-->BI-Publisher/OC4J as print service).
It works well, but I have a problem with formating numbers.
In Template Builder I define following number formats, for example: #.##0 for numbers like 1.454.234 and #.##0,00 for numbers like 54,80
In Template-Builder Preview it looks well.
But whatever I do, in use with Oracle Apex dots and comma are allready interchances in the printout.
That means,
1.454.234 become 1,454,234 in PDF-Report
54,80 become 54.80 in PDF-Report
Other than that, the layout is exactly the same like in Template Builder defined.
What's wrong?
Do I have to change any country parameter?

I also had the same problem. I tried with normal formating of 99g99g999d99 instead of ##,##,##0.00 and it has resulted correct way.

Problem in Formatting Total Column in Classic Table

I am using Classic Table.
I am able to format the column data but i am unable to format the column total value. I searched in forum and tryed something like in the following thread..

Using a Math Formula in AS3

I am trying to test using a math formula (probit function) in AS3. I can't get the script to work: the dynamic text box is displaying NaN after I run the function and use a hard-coded number for the variable. Here's the button's script that is getting a NaN display. I don't know the formula that you're trying to achieve, but the log and sqrt must use positive values.
If you're uncertain if a variable (or formula result) will give you a negative result and you need a positive one, you can use the Math.abs, which return s always a positive value.
I've just altered like this in the first IF:
var q:Number=Math.sqrt(Math.abs(-2*Math.log(p)));
and in the second:
q=Math.sqrt(Math.abs(-2*Math.log(Math.abs(1-p))));
In this case the second formula has two Math.abs since I don't know the result of "1-p" (in this case is negative) and then you multiply by "-2" wich will make the number negative again, so it has to be positive for the square root. If you have the change consider changing the formula to see you can eliminate, so many Math.abs, make it simple.
Otherwise is just a question of predicting results and see if the formula fits right.

Facing problem in formatting

m having pavilion dv6 6186tx laptop, m facing problem in formatting my lappy i had ordered windows 7 cd ( the genuine OS which was allotted to my lappy by hp ) from HP, i received 3 cd's 2 of my OS and 1 for the drivers, when i start formatting my lappy with the cd's things were fine, first i inserted OS cd's one by one then it ask for the driver cd and i inserted it then the data from the cd's were copied on the disk and all the cd's were back with me then any window with a message appear on the screen saying "Recover preparation is completed & now the installation phase will begin "(snapshot of the message window is shown below) then my lappy restarted and the installation of the OS & the drivers begin, there were two progress bars on the software installation window the first or the above one must be for the individual software's and the second one must be for the over all progress. So now my installation begin every thing was going well until there comes a point where my system just got paused up, the progress stopped of both the progress bars and no further operations were caried out(snapshot os this situation is shown below) i.e my os is not installed, i tried to install my OS many times but the same problem was occurring again and again PLEASE SUGGEST SOME SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM.....

i had also tried keeping my lappy in the same situation for 3-4 hrs but no change .
The reason for formatting was that my lappy was not shutting down properly i.e. even after shutting it down the led's of the wifi button, power button, light of the touch pad were on and finally I had to shut it down forcefully that means by pressing the power 4 few seconds. I thought there might b some drivers issue so I should format my lappy one & set all the settings to its factory condition that y i thought of fromatting and this happened.

My requirement is to have certain fields of a cell as text and amount fields should be in number format.
How to format a cell in Excel in OLE method of downloading data to excel.
For example I have plant field whose value is 0002 in internal table while coming to excel it is showing as 2 .
I want that field to be shown as 0002.(text format)
Material field whose value in internal table is 000000000000000051 is shown as 51 which has to be shown as
000000000000000051.(text format).
Amount field should be in number format so that totalling is possible .
So I need some cells in text format and some in number format.
Please suggest a sloution.

How to use math formula on waveforms

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a program that can use math scipts, formulas etc on waveforms. I've done it for one signal, but I don't know how to change work on 2 or more signals;/ Let's see exampe: one channel is voltage, the second is current and I want to see both of them and as a third signal power so I'm writting formula ch3=ch1*ch2. Another example: I've signal which represents speed of starting motor (500 points) but I need only few points so the formula will be: ch1(20:120) and I have points from 20 to 120. Is it possible to do it? I can't do it using blocks cause I don't know which signal means what... so ch1 can be voltage, ch2 speed, ch3 current ch4-torqu etc. I know that I can cut a part of signal by subarray or subwaveform but it must be done by formula to use (for example) something like that:
ch1(1:20)=0 <- replace all point from 1 to 20 of ch1 by 0
ch2(50)=40 <-replace point 50 of ch2 by 40
ch3=ch1*2 + ch2 <- do this operation but first do both above this one.
Is it possible? or it's to complicated?
I attached my vi which is working for one selected signal (I don't want to select it... but I don't know how to do it;/) and signal that I'm using to check how it's work

I've upgraded it a little and it works with 2 signals but very sensible;/ formula must have this construction: c3= ... , both of signals must be switched on, there's no way to use part of signal (e.g.c1(21:54) ) and I can't use 2 rows (something like this: c3=c1*c2; c3=c1 doesn't work);/ additionally I wanted to have possibility to use all of signals as input and all of them as output
