Basic question on requirements

Dear SAP Guru's
Can anyone explain the difference between Planned Independent Requirement (PIR), dependent requirement & Customer Requirement with example.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Kalyan

Hi,
In Simple Terms:
Planned Independent Requirement (PIR): Demand placed manually in the system to trigger the procurement flow.
eg: Mtl A has a long lead time & you wish to start the procurement cycle in advance or in cases where you want to have an advance planning of certain materials for which a demand is shortly expected. In such cases you place a PIR in the system via MD61.
Dependent requirement: Demand which is created as a result of a demand for the top parent
Eg: If the BOM of Mtl - A comprises 2 children say B & C, then if a demand is placed for A, system will generate a dependent requirement for B & C which will be tied to the demand coming from A.
Customer Requirement: Demand which is placed in the system based on the sales order
Eg: Your customer places an order with you for Material - A & you create a sales order for the same in VA01, then system will consider this as a customer requirement.
Hope the above clarifies, else revert.
Regards,
Vivek

  • Basic Questions - capturing miniDV, exporting to DVD?

I apologize for the basic questions, but it's been a while since I've done this start to finish...like five years.
I shot a bunch of miniDV sports footage on a Canon GL2 and I am digitizing the footage via firewire (straight from my camera to my computer). I am using Final Cut HD. The output will be to DVD.
The Easy Setup is set to DV-NTSC. The sequence and capture settings are both set to DV-NTSC 48kHz.
    1. Under system settings > playback control > What are the correct settins for "RT", "video quality" and "pulldown pattern"? Do these ultimately affect the output quality?
    2. What is the "best" way to output to DVD (using the least compression, looking the best)? The end product will be about 35 minutes long. Should I output to QT and burn in DVD studio Pro, or "print to video" using an external DVD burner via a Sony converter box (how I used to export to VHS)?
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I'm rather desperate...

Depending upon whether you mean desperate in terms of time required to deliver the project or just for a solution, you can quickly output to DVD using iDVD as follows.
If the FCP project resides on the same computer as iDVD (or a connected FW drive), simply 'export' - 'quicktime movie' (uncheck the 'make movie self-contained' checkbox and use 'current settings')
Open iDVD and drag the resultant quicktime file into one of the themes you have chosen. (In the iDVD preferences set to NTSC and as the project is less than 60 mins you can use 'best quality' or 'best performance'. (There is no option to compress audio in idVD)
The iDVD interface is pretty straight forward to negotiate.
You will have more control over the output quality using DVDSP, but the learning curve is a little steeper than iDVD, however the DVDSP tutorial manual is very good for a quick start - you have 2 options in DVDSP, either use compressor to compress audio and video before authoring the disc in DVDSP or drag the afore mentioned quicktime file into the assets pane of DVDSP and let DVDSP do the compression.
(I'm not an expert, but I believe this method doesn't give you the option to compress the audio - compressing the audio is one way of giving you more latitude in giving the video better quality)
So I reckon that to get the best results you ought to compress using compressor before bringing into DVDSP.
This thread is very useful as a basic Compressor tutorial.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3621676&#3621676
Along with the DVDSP tutorial manual, I authored and outputted a 60 min DVD with 2 menus and chapters, using Compressor and the DVDSP templates having had no prior experience at all with either Compressor or DVDSP in less than a day and I'm not particularly competent, so I know these 2 resources are user friendly.
    Good luck,
    Dave

    Dear All
I would to get the clarification on general question as below:
    1. Who will be the part of the GRC (functional or Technical) ? What is best practice ?
    2. What will be the role and responsibilities of GRC consultant ?
    3. What are best practices say about the GRC Deployment ?
    4. What is the best landscape with GRC ?
    5. When GRC - ERM will be 100% bug free ?

    Hi Vimal ,
Almost all the questions you posed are very generic ( As you rightly said,  these are the BASIC QUESTIONS) and really need a lots of explanation to understand the product , here I have just given a few reference sites try to visit , it may be helpful in  answering few of your queries
    1. Who will be the part of the GRC (functional or Technical) ? What is best practice ?
Ans: Both ( also include many other teams like  Business Process Owners  etc etc )
    2. What will be the role and responsibilities of GRC consultant ?
Ans: Quite a Lot Depends on the area where the consultant is working
    3. What are best practices say about the GRC Deployment ?
Ans: These are the few customer feed back try to visit   http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/customers/testimonials/index.epx
    4. What is the best landscape with GRC ?
Ans : Lots of documents available , but its always depends on your requirement , However try to visit http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/governance-risk-compliance/index.epx   You will get the better understanding of the GRC , then based on the requirement , the landscape will change.
    5. When GRC - ERM will be 100% bug free
Ans: I feel,  we canu2019t not say any software is 100 % Bug free , As you know that people always try to improve the quality of product by minimize the Bugs , and as and when a customer/ Consultant found a bug , SAP is always address in very less time and they release the patch/Note to address these issues.

  • Basic Questions (Compressor/Qmaster)

I can't find answers to some really basic questions:
    1. To distribute Compressor tasks, is Qmaster and Compressor required on all participating Macs?
    2. Are they required to be exactly the same version across the participating Macs?
    3. Are they required to have unique serial numbers? (I tried to start Compressor on a second Mac that had been installed from FCS 5.1 Crossgrade package that resides on original Mac - all that was on the second Mac was Compressor and Qmaster - Qmaster didn't seem to mind, but Compressor gave me a warning message and terminated....)
    4. Assuming the above issues have been resolved as required, does Compressor have to be started on the "Services Only" Mac in order to assist in the processing?
Again, my apologies for the level of these questions....
    Stan

    1. No - just use the Qmaster node installer (In the extras folder of Final Cut Studio install disc).
    2. Yes - same versions of Qmaster
    3. The nodes don't require a serial number.
    4. No - just turn on Services in the Apple Qmaster panel of System Prefs. On the nodes, check Share and Managed and click the "Start Services" button. Set up the Nodes as Services only and your Controller (the machine with Compressor installed) as Services and cluster controller. Then use Qadmin to set up the cluster.

  • Basic Questions About CSM

    Hi,
We have a CSM installed in a 6513 chassis working as our load balancer for web servers. I have a few basic questions:
    1. The current default configuration of probes on our switch indicates 2 minutes interval, 3 consecutive errors before marking real server failure and 5 minutes between probes of failed server. This setting results in 10-12 minute switch over delay in case one server fails.
In one of the Cisco papers I read that the default for these parameters in CSM is 8 seconds, 2 retries and 5 seconds, respectively.
My question is what is the default settings for probe parameters and is there any recommendation for a optimal settings? (I am going to use 1min, 3, 15seconds resulting 0.5 to 1.5 minutes delay and want to make sure there is no concerns with that)
    2. Does the sticky timeout affect the switch over delay time? My understanding is that sticky timeour applies to the normal condition when all legs are up and in case of a failure, the traffic will switch over regardless of an existing active sticky session. Is this correct?
    3. What is the exact definition of a "connection" in a load balancer? Is there any way to estimate or predict the number of connections for a specific traffic load (e.g. number of connection per user)?
    Thanks for your response,
    Ali

There is an ASK THE EXPERT session currently, if you have more questions, please join us there.
    Regarding your current questions :
1/ The default for an icmp probe is 120sec, 3 retries and 300sec for failed.
You can use whatever values you think is necessary for your environment.
However, you need to remember that a probe generates traffic and each probe require process CPU time to send and receive.
With a lot of servers you probably want to avoid low frequency values.
I think your suggested value of 1 minute is ok.
2/ the sitcky timeout does not affect failover.
However, you should be aware that if a server goes dowm, the CSM will send NEW connections to the other servers. But active connection will stay with this server even if down. To change this behavior use the 'failaction purge' command.
3/ A connection is a flow. It is defined by a SRC IP, DST IP, protocol, SRC PORT, DST PORT.
Within a connection you can send 2 bytes or 2 Gig.
So, it is difficult to link the 2 values.
ie: when you load a webpage, if you are using http 1.0 you open 1 connection for every object (text, gif, banner, ...) but with http 1.1 you can download all the same objects in a single connection.
    Hope this helps.
    Gilles.

  • Basic Questions related EHPs for SEM

    Hi Guys,
I've some basic questions related to EHPs: -
    1. If we don't mean to implement any of the new functionalities does it make any sense to implement EHP? In other words do EHPs also have some general improments other than the functionalities which can be specifically activated?
    2. If we just activate a functionality and don't implement/ use it can there be any negative impact?
    3. In case of a pure technical upgrade from SEM 4.0 to SEM 6.0 which EHP would be recommended?
    4. Is there a quick way to find all relevant notes in EHPn which are related to corrections for EHPn-1?
    Thanks in advance,
    -SSC

    HI,
If you see some of my older posts I have had many issues with certain features of the EHP2 functionality but that doesn't mean I would recommned against it.
    BCS 6 EHPs 3 & 4  (BCS 6.03 / 6.04) - enhancement packs worth implementing?
BCS 6 EHP 2 (BCS 6.02) - activation of enhancement pack
My recommendation is to implement the EHPs but not necesarrily activate the functions (in SFW5) unless you need them - this means that you will only have to test once after EHP implementation and will have the ability to activate the other features as and when required (although testing is required after activation of course) whereas it might be difficult to persuade your client/basis team to implement EHP4 later if you don't do it now.
In the features of EHP2 (activate FIN_ACC_GROUP_CLOSE) it states that there is a general performance improvement - although I have yet to experience it! From OSS note 1171344 "The functionality which is available in EHP2 consists of...
... Performance improvements of status management, reporting and initial start-up of consolidation workbench and monitor.
Since activating FIN_ACC_GROUP_CLOSE I have had many OSS notes requiring application but i discovered that when the technical team implemented the EHPs (before i joined this client) they somehow forgot the latest SP (support packs) and didn't upgrade to the current level - so make sure that you get the right SPs too (see the links in Greg's link above) to avoid the many OSS notes.
As for your question - "is there a list of OSS notes to specific to EHP upgrades? - the answer is most definietly "NO" - I already asked OSS in desperation!
however, you can see the OSS notes that i have applied listed in the above link ( BCS 6 EHP 2 (BCS 6.02) - activation of enhancement pack )

  • Basic Questions on UITableView

Hi, I'm trying to learn the iPhone API by creating a simple table application and I have some basic questions. There are stuff in the example code and the docs that seem to contradict, and I'm hoping some people can clarify.
    1) Table View Programming for iPhone OS, it says that UITableView must have a delegate and a source. I take it that in the example code (let's use TableCellSubivews) RootViewController is the source and TableViewCellSubviews is the delegate?
    2) If so, why does TableViewCellSubviews adopt the UIApplicationDelegate protocol and not UITableViewDelegate? In fact, I don't think any of the classes in the example code adopt UITableViewDelegate.
    3) In the UITableViewDelegate reference, it names didSelectRowAtIndexPath as a method. In the example code, why is in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath a method in the RootViewController, and not the delegate itself?
Thanks for any explanations that anyone can give to help a noob!

    {quote}
    1) Table View Programming for iPhone OS, it says that UITableView must have a delegate and a source. I take it that in the example code (let's use TableCellSubivews) RootViewController is the source and TableViewCellSubviews is the delegate?
    {quote}
There are 3 things that need to be done when setting up a tableview:
1- the tableview controller itself, which determines how the tableview is set up, decides on the view, etc..
2- the data source: the controller in 1) above needs to ask someone "give me the cell with the data for row #x. That's the job of the data source
3- The delegate: some things for the table view need visible stuff such as the height of a row, whether a row should have a checkmark, etc... That's the job of the delegate.
Now what often happens is that people do not specify a data source nor a delegate. What this means is that the controller performs all 3 jobs. Again, if the controller does not specify its delegate (or no class registers as its delegate), then the controller acts as its own delegate. (that answers your second question)
    {quote}
    3) In the UITableViewDelegate reference, it names didSelectRowAtIndexPath as a method. In the example code, why is in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath a method in the RootViewController, and not the delegate itself?
    {quote}
    That's a tricky question.
The thing is that both the data source AND the delegate adopt a method called didSelectRowAtIndexPath. But they're for very different purposes. For the delegate, it's simply a notification by the controller that "hey, this row was selected, you may want to do something with it", i.e. change the color of the font, add a checkmark, etc...
For the data source, it's much more important (and required!): the controller is saying "hey, someone requested row #x. Please give it to me!" This includes getting all the data and setting up the whole row, then returning it to the controller.
Hope this helps clear things up.

  • Basic questions about Notes domino connector

    Hi,
I have a very basic question about the Lotus Domino connector for OIM. We have a requirement to provision accounts into the domino mail server and while doing that also update some information directly into a separate nsf file.
I checked the documentation and it seems while configuring an IT resource, we need to give the Mail DB path, and thats the only place where it refers to it.
Could you guys please let me know if this can be done? Can I write directly to a different nsf file, which is not like provisioning to the complete mail server. So the other attributes in the IT resource may not be able to be set up as its just the file I need to provision into.
    Looking forward to your response.
    Thanks, M

Hello folks, please share your experience working with the lotus notes connector.

  • Basic questions about JRE installation

I am using NSIS to make a installer, which insalls the JRE 1.5, JMF, Javamp3, then our own software packages.....
Firstly I have some basic question about the general installatio/deinstallation.
1 Why sometimes is it required to reboot computer for the installed software to take effect, e.g.
JRE 1.5. If not, what doest NOT take effect? (Actually in many cases, it seems to work even if not reboot the computer).
    Regarding the JRE 1.5,
    I am wondering:
1 where is the registry entry written in windows?
2 how to make the JRE installation process silent?

  • CIF queue type basic question

    Hi,
I have one basic question regarding CIF.
We are assigning queue type to scm system at two places.
    1. In SCM system with tcode-/SAPAPO/C2(Assign logical system to buisness system group)
    2. In Ecc system with tcode-CFC1(Define target system operation mode and queue type)
Is it required both above setting should have same value?
If it could have different value what is impact?
Why it is required to assign queue type for SCM system at both places and not for ecc?
    Regards,
    Santosh

    Hi Santosh,
let me try to explain cutomizing setting:
/sapapo/c2 (APO): This TX  is more comprehensive than CFC1 on ECC site (as you know).
Firstly you have to define the queuetype of the connected ECC system (or the connected ECC systems). Therefore you have to use the Log. System names of the ECC system and the settings are simmilar to CFC1 but it is used for SCM->ECC transfer.
As you know, you have to define also an entry for your SCM system which looks like the entry in CFC1 and therefore it looks superfluous. The reason is, that the error handling can be defined here. You can activate the "postprocessing" for your SCM system and / or your ECC system. The CIF framework checks this entry and put faulty queues into postprocessing (TX /sapapo/cfp) or as SYSFAIL into SMQ1/SMQ2. Therefore it is important that you choose the same queue type as you did it in CFC1 for your SCM system.
CFC1 (ECC): Here you have to assign the Log. System name of your SCM which is connected to your ECC and you have to define the Queue type (I - INBOUND, INITIAL - OUTBOUND). The setting is used for the transfer from ECC->SCM. It is possible (not recommended!!!

    Stan

    1. Yes, plus, if you're sending Compressor tasks from Final Cut Pro, all computers in the cluster are required to have Final Cut.
    2. It depends, but usually, yes, all versions need to be the same. Qmaster 2.0 and 2.1 are not compatible with each other. 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 would most likely work. together.
    3. I've always been working with Volume Licenses here, so I can't verify this, but as far as I know Final Cut Studio programs won't operate if an identical serial number is operating on the same network. As far as recieving tasks, I'm not sure serial number checking is done.
    4. The answer to this question can be found in the Distributed Processing Setup Manual (open Apple Qadministrator -> Help -> Distributed Processing Setup), but in a simple answer, no, a QuickCluster, Services and Controller, and Services only computer can all be configured into a cluster (I'm pretty sure).

  • Very Basic Question - Resizing Image

Cannot believe I am having to ask such a basic question, but in order to scan and send documents to a particular database, there are two requirements:
    1) 200 dpi, and
    2) Greyscale
The greyscale I found quickly enough by going to image adjustments -----> B&W. However, how do I get to 200 dpi and then export? Thanks.
    Scott

Applying a B&W adjustment doesn't change your output color space to grayscale.
You should create an export preset for this particular purpose. To do this, go to Aperture -> Presets -> Image Export and make a new preset with correct values for image size and resolution. Use Generic Gray Gamma 2.2 as color profile.

  • Siebel 7.8(Basic Questions)

    Hello Everyone,
I have three very basic questions and I was wondering if any of you can answer it.
    1. Can we run Siebel 7.8 on Windows 2008 Server?
    2. Is Siebel 7.8 compatible with SQL 2008?
    3. Can we run Siebel 7.8 servers from a Windows 2003 server and have the database (SQL 2008) on a Windows
    2008 Server?
    Please help!
    Nick
Edited by: Nick Advani on Sep 25, 2009 12:13 PM

I can speak from personal experience.
I recently setup Siebel 7.8 on SQL 2008 R2 in our test environment. Everything works well with the database.
You can run siebel 7.8 without any issue, you don't need the 7.8.2 update, but I do recommend it for a production system
When you go to install siebel, you will have to run setup.exe with the compatibility mode setting of "Windows 2003 sp1"
Use the SNAC, MS Sql 2005 ODBC client on you application server and gateway. The native sql 2008 client / driver will NOT work with siebel.
As Always, siebel is 32-bit and requires the 32-bit version of server 2008 for the gateway and application server.
IE 8 will need to run in compatibility mode, in order to work with the we application.
    Other than that,
Its identical to a windows 2003 installation :)

  • Some basic question about SCM Installation

    Hi Folks,
Could you please advice me about some basic questions about SCM and its installation -
Q1. Do I need to have an R/3 System to be able to practice OR demo the SCM system?
Q2. If, yes, which version of SCM is compatible with the ECC 5.0?
Q3. What are the basic requirements to install SCM (version compatible with ECC 5.0) and ECC on a oracle db and windows OS?
Q4. Does SCM have APO and BI as an inbuilt functionality OR does the user need to purchase these as an Add-On?
I know these are some basic questions, but these will help me give me a direction.
    With best wishes,
    Krishna

    Hello Krishna -
Q1. Do I need to have an R/3 System to be able to practice OR demo the SCM system?
---> There are various Modules in SCM Like APO (Sub Modules  DP (stand alone), SNP Needs Master data from R/3 and has to pass on transactional Data to R/3, PPDS same as SNP, GATP same as SNP), ICH needs Data from R/3 to work with. Core Interface (CIF) connects R/3 to APO for transferring data.
Q2. If, yes, which version of SCM is compatible with the ECC 5.0?
-->For thorough understanding explore the following links

Q3. What are the basic requirements to install SCM (version compatible with ECC 5.0) and ECC on a oracle db and windows OS?
    -->Refer Above
Q4. Does SCM have APO and BI as an inbuilt functionality OR does the user need to purchase these as an Add-On?
--> APO comes with a small BI inbuilt functionality. you can only perform certain functions using that BI.
    Hope this helps.

  • Moving from Entourage to Mail - basic questions

Once my shiny new iMac arrives, I intend to stop using Entourage (v.X) for email and switch to Mail.
I've never used Mail before, so I've got a few basic questions - I hope someone can help!
    1. Is there a limit on how many emails / attachments Mail can hold? Entourage is infamous for unrecoverably crashing if you let its Database get bigger than 2Gb (4Gb with a patch).
    2. How easy is it to archive Mail emails? And how easy is it to then access them for reference, if required?
    3. Can I easily transfer my Entourage address book to Mail?
    Hope someone can help!

    Robin,
Mail creates a separate account folder for each email account you have. It also has a another folder to hold mailboxes/folders that you use to organize and archive messages away from Inboxes, Sent, etc.
With each separate mailbox (Inbox, Sent or custom folder) there is no limit on number of messages, but with Mail 2.x (the one in Tiger) the size of each mailbox, including message attachments, must be kept below 2 GB. The only limit on the overall Mail folder, including On My Mac mailboxes, is the space on your hard drive, or boot partition, where your Home folder resides.
It is not convenient (nor necessary) to archive outside of the Mail folder where all mailboxes/folder reside, although backups can be made for disk failure, etc.
Open the Address Book application, and you will find under File, the command to Import. For what you can Import, check AB Help, searching on import and Entourage, and you will find Entourage listed as a source -- see also:
