Batch Action to convert files.

I want to save space in my external hard drive by converting RAW files to DNG files. For the life of me I cannot understand how to create an action for batch processing these files.
Thanks

Sorry, I didn't mean to throw out incomplete info...  I kind of misspoke based on my own experience.  You *can* make a DNG slightly smaller than a raw file with certain settings, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them.  My experience has been with converting to DNG where I always embed the original raw file inside the DNG (JJ mentioned that above).  I have never been comfortable with the idea of eliminating my original raw files entirely, so I have always selected the option to embed the raw file.
You can reduce the data size from the out-of-camera raw file if you optimize everything for smallest size - i.e.,
Don't embed the original raw file in the DNG.
Don't embed a JPEG preview or Fast Load data.
Use Lossy Compression (note;  this causes degradation of the image).
Don't choose a Custom conversion where the image is uncompressed.
I have heard that there is also a possibility under some conditions that a camera file could be de-Bayered, which can cause an increase in size, though I don't recall what those conditions are at the moment.
Here's an example with the settings above set to minimize size (except Lossy Compression - I cannot recommend that):
I'm very sorry I gave a too-simple answer earlier.

  • Batch Action creating .AI files unexpectedly

    Hi,
I am having a strange issue.  I am running a batch action that deletes some art from WMF files, and then saves them.  When I run the batch, I am prompted to save an .AI file which is named the same as the WMF files that I am processing.  This occurs every for every file, stopping the batch to prompt for saving the .AI file.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Which version of Illustrator are you using?
Also, describe as detailed as possible how your action is set up and show a screenshot of your Batch process settings.

  • Photoshop CS5 - Batch actions for PDF multipage files

    Good morning.
One of my customer bring me a pdf files composed by 147 pages.
Before I can print the whole file I had to remove a piece of the Header (common in every page at the same location) and a piece of the bottom left footer.
    What I did:
    - open a single page, create a new action -> select the area to be deleted, delete the content, select none, select the second area to be deleted, delete the area;
    - saved the action as "MyActionWillSaveMeLOTofTime";
    - File -> Automate -> Batch -> select folder with pdf file, select action and run
Surprise surprise, pdf is not a supported file for batch.
So I opened every single page (147!) with no-loss resolution (210x297mm @300dpi) (every file transformed into RASTER.... LOT OF TIME) than File->Automate->Batch->Action and Opened files as target.
This way it worked... but it takes like 2 hours to finish, and every file needed the OK confirmation to save the file.
After that I had to open Bridge CS5, select all saved files and put together again in a pdf.
    Result:
    - 2 hours of work with PC unable to perform any different action;
    - original pdf file 3.4MB -> final pdf file 98MB
I wonder if there is a way with Photoshop and Bridge CS5 to avoid the raster process on the pdf pages so I don't need to waste time to perform similar action, because it seems my custome have a ton of other similar files...
Or any other software that can do that (hopefully free, I can't buy an expensive program for that feature only).

    Hi,
    1. Why dont u try it in pdf itself?
U can just crop the required area in pdf file using crop tool so it can be applied for all the pages at a time.
    2. If u trying to remove particular area on a pdf u can place a white box on that area using pitstop tool it can be saved as actionlist like batch processing and applied for any number of pages and files.
Making this in pdf itself won't get u more file size. Size will be as equal as ur source file.

  • Export a batch action/list?

Is it possible to save a batch action to a file, and then import that action to another user's computer?
For example, Photoshop has an action list and you can export 1 action or a set of actions, then import it to another machine very easily (using save/load). I would like to do the same thing. If it's impossible, this is a major oversight.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Batch sequences are saved locally as SEQU files, which can be copied from one computer to another.
To find out the exact location(s) of these files on your computer, run this from the JavaScript console:
    app.getPath("app","sequences");
    app.getPath("user","sequences");

  • Batch Action through Image Processor Leaves Files Open in CS4

I am not sure if this is a change in CS4 or something that I am doing incorrectly. But when I run Bridge CS4 < Photoshop < Image Processor (running an action that I have been running since CS2) the files do not close in photoshop after running the action. In all prior versions of PSCS#, photoshop closed the file after finishing the action. The files all save properly. But having hundreds of files opened inside of photoshop causes the scratch disk to go low and slows everything down.
    What am I doing wrong?

I haven't experienced that problem. But a related annoying problem with batch actions in CS4 is that if I minimize Photoshop while a batch action is running, the program interface minimizes, but the images open and close on the desktop still. In prior versions of PS, I could minimize the program and the batch action would go on in the background, invisible to me, while I could do other tasks. But now, when I run a batch to convert over 1000 files, each one pops open on the desktop, in front of any other open app's windows. It then closes and the next one opens, etc. Which means my computer is unusableduring any batch command.
Very annoying! How could the QA and beta testers have not noticed this?

How do you batch convert files to 4x6 with copyright?
You need to create an action in PS (include a conditional option for both landscape and portrait). With this action ready you can select the files in Bridge, use menu Tools, Photoshop / Batch and inhere choose the action you created and let it run.
For the action itself you might want to visit the PS forum for more details, it is not easy to create a watermark on each image but possible. Just try it and explore.

  • Action to Convert Word doc to pdf, error: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

I am simply running an action that converts all Word 2010 docs within a directory into pdfs in another directory. The Word doc is closed.
This is performed within Adobe Pro X.  The directory to look in has been set.  The directory to save in has been set, and is different.
The error message pops up after I run the action.  If I click the OK button, the 'save pdf file as' box pops up, with Adobe printer's default save directory
(not the same as the above two) selected.
If I click Save, accepting the meaningless file name (ADPD5A5.pdf in this case) the problem goes away.  If I chose cancel, the problem also goes away.
I don't want to save this pdf as anything other than what is set up in the action.  How do I stop this from happening?
I've unchecked 'prompt for Adobe pdf file name' within the Word Adobe preferences, but to no success.
I will ultimately be converting scores of docs into pdfs, and cannot have to interfere with each one.
This worked fine on my XP machine, but now in Windows 7 64 bit (new machine, new Adobe install) it is causing this problem.

    A bit of a confusion on my part;
Now we have created these REPORTS using Basic Crystal Report 10.5, which comes bundled with Visual Studio 2008 and .Net Framework 3.0. Now on our machines, we have never experienced any issues.
Going by the above, you should have references to CR assemblies of version 10.5.3700 only. No other references.
    Now, looking at this paragraph:
BUT on the DEV server (web server) which has .net Framework 3.0 and in its GAC its has CRYSTAL DLLs version 11.5 (required to create an Object of ReportClass and its related functions) ; sometimes we get the following error while exporting crystal report to pdf:
I wonder what runtime was deployed to the server. E.g.; if you are using CR 10.5, your assemblies will be 10.5.3700 and you should be deploying the following runtime (depending on 32 bit / 64 bit, etc.):
    CRRedist2008_ia64.msi

  • Batch convert file to OCR PDF

    Hi
we want to survey a software that offer these function:
    1. Batch convert file( MS office / PDF / JPG / TIFF ) to OCR PDF automatically.
    2. Multi-threaded conversions functionality.
    2. Support API .
Is Adobe Acrobat XI Pro can work?

No, Acrobat would not be suitable for this purpose.
Also, be aware that the idea of converting a “born digital” document (such as an MSOffice file) to an “OCR PDF” makes no sense.

  • Convert file command in Graphic Converter.....help

OK, I'm a software engineer by trade, so I'm sure I'll get the hang of AS, but I have to admit, I'm having problems getting started.
I would like to create a simple drag/drop Applescript that will invoke GraphicConverter and perform a predefined file conversion process. Specifically I want to convert dropped images to the Electric Image "IMAGE" format.
I have looked at all of the sample scripts on numerou sites, and they use the "Save Window" method. I would like to use the "Convert File" method.
Any sample code that may help me with this? I've looked at the AS Dictionary for GC, but I'm not sure where to proceed. Here is the text from the dictionary:
convert file v : convert a file using a batch setting to the destination folder
    convert file
using batch file specification : batch settings file
to folder file specification : destination folder
    Thanks for any help!

  • No changes appear when batch editing Camera Raw Files and saving as jpegs

When I batch edit my raw files, including saving the file as a jpeg, from bridge or photoshop the resulting file saved never includes any changes I made in the Camera Raw editor. For example if I have lightened the photo by changing the exposure in Camera Raw as a saved jpeg after batching the file is still as dark as when originally shot. Is there some little box I forgot to check or something? Thanks!
    andy

I've seen something like this, but have not figured out why yet. In my situation I select a group of images in Bridge and go to Tools / Photoshop / Image Processor.
There I click the "open first image to apply settings" box.
    Save in Same Location
Save as JPEG, resize to fit (1200 pixels), Convert Profile to sRGB.
    No Action selected
    Include ICC Profile
Run it and in Camera Raw roll the saturation down to -100 (convert to b&W).
    Click "Open Image"
The process runs and the first image is converted to b&w, but the others are not.

  • Automate  and  Batch actions

I am converting tiff files to jpeg using the Automate then Batch Actions. I select my source folder and Destination folder. The program converts and send the jpegs to the Destination folder but it is also sending a copy of every jpeg to my DESKTOP. Nothing in my Destination folder shows the desktop as a destination. I set up a destination file on my e drive and it still sends the photos to the desktop.
any suggestions I am using CS2 Photoshop.
    Thanks
    Randy

When you created your action you probably recorded a File > Save as... (.jpg) commanfd and specified Desktop for the test file, as Geoff noted.
When you engage the Batch dialog, specify the Destination folder AND as unintuitive as it sounds turn on option "(x) Override action 'save as' commands." That should get you over the hump.

  • Running Batch Actions in Bridge causes PS's Preferences window to open repeatedly

I just upgraded to CC at work, and ever since I've had a problem when I batch run Photoshop Actions from Bridge.
I have some simple Actions set up in PS to do some conversions for large batches of images (convert to RGB, resize, change DPI, etc.). But when I run them from Bridge like I always have, it causes Photoshop to open the Preferences window to the "Units & Rulers" tab. And that, unfortunately, pauses the batch conversion until I close the Preferences window. This happens at least once per file, but usually twice. Pretty annoying.
I never had this problem when I was using CS6, but just in case there was some sort of incompatibility with my old Actions, I remade one of them in CC, but the Preferences window still pops up.
This only happens when I run Batch Actions from Bridge. When I run the Action on a single file from PS, it works fine.
Any ideas? Maybe I've found a new bug?
    Thanks!

BTW, I was able to get around this problem by opening all the files I wanted to run the Action on using Bridge, then manually triggering the Batch dialog via Photoshop and using the 'Source: Opened Files' option:
Using this system, I didn't get any errors. Luckily, I also didn't have a huge number of files. If I did, I'd probably have to copy them all into a temp folder using Bridge, then run using 'Source: Folder'. Definitely a pain when they are all right there in Bridge ready to be batched.
