Batch process to crop odd-sized photos

Am I hoping to do the impossible?
I have photos sized 667 X 1000 I wish to crop to 200 X 400
without distorting them. My idea is to import them into a blank
canvas of 500 X 1000, save, then batch resize them to 200 X 400. Is
there a way to batch process the importing / saving step? Obviously
some of the initial photo will be cropped, but if I could set it to
top align and center the width in the blank canvas 95% of my photos
should be fine. I could then manually re-crop the photos that are
cut-off strangely.
Any suggestions? I have almost 1000 photos. TIA.

I want to crop away 5px from each edge of each picture which would then end up being 390x590px, 350x470px and 590x790px respectively.
Example:
Picture 1 : 400 x 600px    = 400:600 = 4:6 =  2:3
Picture 2 : 360 x 480px    = 36:48 = 6:8 = 3:4
Picture 3 : 600 x 800px   =  3:4
So you can record the three action to center crop your images to the 2:3 and 3:4 aspect ratios  shown in your examples then use image size to size them you three example  pixel sizes then use canvas size to to trim the 5 px of the border,  just set the canvas to you three sizes 390x590px  350x470px and 590x790px do not check relative and leave the anchor point in the center.  Five pixels will be trimmed form all sides. Any image that started with the correct 2:3 or 3:4 aspect ratios will not be cropped by the first crop only the canvas size crop will trim pixels.
To handle both Portrait and Landscape image the action would need to record a fit image step instead of the image size step a fit image step fit to longest side need to be recorded  and the canvas size would need to be recorded to trim both width and height by a relative -10px.   My  AspectRatioSelection plugin will automatically orient the aspect ratio recorded to the images orientation.

  • HDR Toning Auto Batch Process

Hi, first time poster here...just recently got into timelapse photography and have been batch processing away to my hearts content. I have one scene that looks unbelievable with the "surrealistic" HDR toning preset. However, I record my action and set up the folders and set it to go, but it seems to want me to click "ok" after filtering each photo...there's 1685 of them, so not very keen on that.
I googled it before posting here and there is one other post online about it, but they start talking about scripts and I have no idea where they are or what to do with them...
    Any advice? Many thanks.
    Win 8/ CS6.

No reason I know this can't be done. Lift and stamp adjustment.
Incidentally, something I've noticed is that when selecting one photo for adjustments it automatically duplicates the photo alongside the original, I'd like to temporarily disable this so I can select all the photos in one project and adjust them as one so they all turn out the same.
Aperture→Prefs→Advanced→{uncheck "Create new versions when making adjustments"}.

  • Batch Processing only working on open image

I am trying to run a Batch process on several folders of photos.  In order to use the Batch process I need to have an image open, so I open a random image and run the batch process.  I'm not using any custom made actions, only the defaults.  Instead of taking the photos in a given folder, running the batch process, and creating a new folder for these images, Photoshop keeps running the batch process on the open image.  Not sure what I am doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

As Curt already provided, the image processor can do so, although I don't
have to go to Output for that, might be Windows related... ?
Besides that you have the option to open the selected jpeg files with right
mouse click in ACR and after selecting them all again in ACR filmstrip mode
(cmd+A) click on the 'Save Image' button bottom left in ACR window and
choose tiff and a destination folder.
And an other option would be to create an action in PS for this and in
Bridge select al the jpeg files together and choose from the menu
Tools/Photoshop/Batch and inhere select the action you have created

  • O.T. Sequential Number Text Overlay On Photos In A Batch Process

As ACDSee crops up on the forum from time to time, I thought this posting
on Photo.net on using ACDSee to put a "sequential number" text overlay on photos in a batch process might be of interest.

I don't think it's possible to manually add OCRd text, but you can add form

  • Layer style screen pops up for each photo in Automate Batch processing

Please HELP! I managed to re-record an existing Action without problem. I double click on <Set Layer style on current layer> and change to a new Layer Style for my Watermark Text. The <Contour> is Linear. The Actions panel turns red during editing.
But when I run > Automate > Batch and select that edited Action, the <Layer Style> screen pops-up for each photo and the only way to finish the batch of photos is to click <OK> for each photo. I’m using Photoshop CS5. I have refresh Photoshop, restart my laptop but the problem remains.
I did another copy of the original Action and just changed the
value in <Text Layer> and it works in the Batch processing. This problem only happens when I changed the value in the <Layer Style>.
I have been looking into many forums and still could not find the solution. I appreciate some advice as soon as possible as this problem has dragged on for two weeks now.
    Thank you in advance.

As silly as it sounds to be, I found a way out!
I decided to change the value again in the <Layer Style> on the same Action (ie Main WM Name 70 copy), and RUN <Automate> and on second RUN the <Layer Style> screen doesn't pop-up!
I just couldn't believe my eyes and did some rounds of testing! And it works:
a)Firstly, I will change the <Layer Style> to any value and saved it
(Just to test it, I Run <Automate> and the <Layer Style> screen pops-up at each photo)
b)Then I change again the <Layer Style> to the actual value I want
    c)Run <Automate> without the <Layer Style> screen pops-up
To test further, oddly enough, if I change the <Layer Style> value the 3rd time, the pops-up screen appear again! And to overcome the same problem, I have to change the value 4th time, and the problem disappears.
So simple solution (at least for me) and yet I cracked my head for two weeks to overcome it!
    Thanks for your time, c.pfaffenbichier.

  • Can I use Organizer to change the .jpg size of all photos in a folder in one batch process?

We're using wa-a-ay too much disk space for a growing photo collection.   My daughter is a camera freak with four kids -- need I say more?
In my current test folder the sizes of the original photos range from 2.3 MB to 4.2 MB.  I picked one photo at random and printed the original and then three more, saved by PSE9 as .jpg files at maximum, middle, and minimum quality settings on plain letter-size paper, and again on 4x6 photo paper.  It takes a magnifying glass and a calibrated eyeball to detect a difference on the plain paper, and it's even more difficult on the photo paper.  I think I should relieve the pressure on the hard drive's capacity by reducing everything to a more reasonable size; after all, the minimum-quality print takes up less than one percent of the disk space as does the maximum-quality print.
I have a hunch that I can accomplish this in a batch process with Organizer, but that's all I have is the hunch -- not the know-how.   I would like someone to step me through the process.
I also expect a lecture on why I shouldn't do this.  Go for it; I'll listen.

You are the one to judge... Will you regret it if you want to use some pictures with the original size and resolution at a later time?
Yes, you can use either the organizer or the 'process multiple files' command of the editor. But first you should think about two questions:
    - Are you ready to backup the full resolution and size files before the 'shrinking'? External USB drives with big capacities are available and affordable.
    - From what you are saying, the optimal size would be for files resized for 4" x 6" format at 300 ppi in jpeg quality 8 to 10.
Resizing from the Editor: Use the 'process multiple files' command and click the 'Same as source' button. I would not do it without a sound backup first... This can be done folder by folder.
Resizing from the Organizer : Use the 'Export' command. That command leaves the original and puts the resulting files in a new folder. The resulting files are NOT included in the catalog. This means that keeping your organization (categories, albums, tags...) will be tricky; same if you are using a folder organization system.
Another solution with a third party software such as Faststone photo resizer:
    - Absolutely do a full backup before
    - run the resizing options in the external software so that the files are resized without being moved. That replaces the originals.
    - If you are using the organizer, your organization will be kept, but the file sizes in the catalog and thumbnail databases will be wrong. You can regenerate the thumbnail cache by deleting the thumbs.5.cache file in your catalog folder; it will be automatically rebuilt.
That has worked for me in the past... no guarantee for you!

  • Cropping not maintained from Bridge to PS when batch processing

This is the oddest thing, because it has never happened before. I am sending images that are cropped in Bridge to a Photoshop batch process (just image resize and sharpening), but they are showing up in the new folder un-cropped.
    Anybody seen this before?

Perhaps the "then click [Done]" part is being omitted?  It's easy to forget and click [Cancel], which will toss out the crop and any other settings changes.
    Other possibilities:
If you've set Camera Raw to use SideCar XMP files to maintain the settings, make sure you're not moving just the raw files to some other location without the XMP files.
If you've set Camera Raw to use the central database, make sure you're opening the images on the same computer on which you set the crop, and also make sure you've given the Camera Raw database enough room to grow (I've found that the default 1 GB is not nearly enough).

  • Batch processing of white balance with RAW photo's in v.5

    Hi,
I have the plugin for RAW to use with Photoshop Elements 5.0 but there doesn't seem to be a way to correct a whole group of photos in raw for white balance or some other correction in a batch. Maybe I'm missing something or maybe this can't be done in Elements.

Elements doesn't have the ability to Batch Process RAW files like you want.
You could make a Batch Conversion to JPEGS, PSD or TIF but each image gets the same default adjustments. I think you could save a new default with your adjustments and then this would get applied in the process. You'd need to remember to go back the Camera Defaults afterwards.
The only other thing available is the Previous Conversion feature but this still means processing the images one by one.

  • Batch process crop Pdfs in background

    Hello
Have read various posts on here, and from what I read I'm not sure it's possible... but thought I'd ask!
I am using Acroboat XI Pro and after each print production cycle, I have a huge batch of PDFs with printer marks/bleeds etc which I want to crop by batch process down to A4.  In our previous version of Acrobat we could configure the action, point it to a source folder, and run the action, saving the cropped files into a separate processed folder. Easy.
Using Action Wizard, I haven't been able to find a way to specify a destination folder - and running the Wizard either prompts us to overwrite the source file, or I can add a Save action and rename the file. This isnt ideal as we ideally want to retain the same naming convention.
I guess I could rename the files, then use Bridge to strip the added prefix out - but want to avoid over-complicating what used to be a one-click process :-(
Can anyone let me know if they have found a way around this.
    Much appreciated
    Sharon

Change the Save command to "Save to local folder" (by clicking the arrow icon next to it), and then select where you want to save the edited files.

  • Is there a way to batch process (basic auto tone) groups of photos in Lightroom?

Is there a way to batch process (basic auto tone) groups of photos in Lightroom?

There are two ways to do this:
    1) Create a develop preset and apply it during import of images.
In the Develop Module apply the settings you want to one image and then click on the <+> sign in the Presets panel (on the left side) and save your settings under a descriptive name. In the import dialog on the right side in the panel <Apply during Import> select the preset that you created. It will be applied to all imported photos.
    2) In the Develop Module apply your settings to one image then select all the other images you want the same setting applied - but your first image should remain active - to and press <Sync>. A dialog will appear that lets you select the settings you want applied to all images.

  • Batch processing time lapse photos

I have a series of several hundred photos taken one a day.  There is some day-to-day variation in the camera position which causes distracting jitter when run through a simple time lapse engine.  There are a couple salient landmarks in each photo which could be used to auto-rotate, and (possibly auto-scale)  the images if the software could be directed to recognize and align these simple features.
    Thanks

There are few forums dedicated specifically to time-lapse. Try to search for timescapes.com, but it might have changed names.
Many of those artists and technicians use conventional After Effects filters or purchase special batch processing scripts for Photoshop. The scripts or filters level out those slight mechanical variations in f-stop on every frame and can help smooth out color tone issues. The output is usually converted to tiff or jpg for ease of animation and renumbered for ease of importing the sequences . Then they'll run AE's stabilizer.
Those forums also included lots of tutorials or advice on how to tweak your gear to shoot better source images that require less post production processing.
Good luck, hope you find something useful out there.
