Batch processing images with different dimensions

Hi all!
I've been trying to do this for a while and I'm stumped, so I'd like to know if it's even possible. I'm trying to fathom out how to create an action which…
Takes a jpg
draws a shape
masks the image
adds another shape
So I can batch process a ton of images.
I managed to do something like what I'm after but the thing I'm having trouble with is that the original images will have different dimensions.
I have attached (via link) an example image which would be the original (start.jpg), one which would be the desired end result (done.jpg) and the .psd
IF there needs to be a step in the middle of the action where I need to intervene and resize the flat image slightly to fit the canvas it'll still save a load of time.
I know that opening and saving will be taken care of using the batch feature and the result only needs to be a jpg.
Any input will be welcomed!
Here are the working files - http://mikeebee.com/dl/action-test.zip
Many thanks

That's an interesting action, but I thought the expected output was different than what this action produces. First, I didn't think image cropping would have been ok (maybe the OP expects this or is ok with cropping). Secondly, I kept getting caught up in how the right edge was going to actually be skewed (as decreasing in size perspectively off into the distance). This action appears to just visually trick the eye (again which may be what the OP wanted or is ok with). Like I said, just that aspect alone is where I kept getting stuck in how this would be possible without some manual manipulation.
If you take this image http://www.shan-dysigns.com/userForums/photoshop/stripes.jpg and perform this action, you will see how the right side doesn't actually get skewed (as I thought was part of the visual effect wanted). Still, this action is quite nice.

There will be a set of Landscapes that that have a narrower aspect ratio the 1960:1103 that would also need the top and bottom cropped like all Portraits would could be.  You need to realize that center cropping Landscape image that have aspect ratios near 1960:1103 will usually produce acceptable compositions.  However Cropping wide panoramas and portraits will only produce acceptable landscape  1960:1103 composition occasionally.
Here you will see what happens when image have aspect ratio the do not fit the desired aspect ratio.  Where Landscape  are forced to portrait and portrait forced to Landscape.  Here are two Collage I populated with a mixture of image  with different  aspect ratios.   One collage has all 3:2 Landscape places and the other 2:3 Portrait places.
I create a 1 image 1960x1103 collage 72dpi and create those too. Note the landscape boy foot is cropped off 3:2 is narrow compared to 1960:1103

  • How to Watermark multiple images with different dimensions in Photoshop ?

Is there any way that I can place a watermark on the right bottom of multiple images, no matter what dimension the images are? I have tried using Photoshop Scripts > image processor, but it works only for images of same dimension. I want to put watermark on multiple images of different dimensions. This is the output i got.
For the first image the watermark got placed correctly, but for the second image watermark got distracted. As you can clearly see the dimensions are different. Please suggest me some solution.

Open an image to watermark. We must have this open before we start recording an action or else it will keep opening this image and watermarking it over and over again.
In Photoshop go to Windows >> Actions
At the bottom of the Actions Palette you will see a little folder icon, click on it and create a new folder to hold you action in.
Once you have a folder to hold your action we need to hit the Create New Action button (next to the new folder Icon we just used.)
Give our new action a name and set a function key (if required.)
If the record button is not already depressed which it should be by default, hit it now to start recording our action. (located near the folder icon again but this time to the left)
Now that our action is recording go to File >> Place
When the dialog box comes up navigate to your previously created watermark file.
    Hit the Place button
Position the watermark as you would normally have it (default is dead center) and hit enter.
Go to File >> Save as,navigate to where you want your watermarked images to finish up and hit save. DO NOT CHANGE THE FILE NAME if you do when you play the batch it will name all the files it saves the same over-writing each other.
Close the image we just watermarked.
when a save dialog comes up do not save the image.
On the Actions Palette hit stop recording.
    Our Action is now recorded.
To process an entire folder of images we go to File >> Automate >> Batch
Select the folder in which your images are currently
Select the folder you wish to save the watermarked copies too.
    Hit OK
Photoshop is now watermarking all the Images in the selected folder for you.

I am using photoshop 7; I would like to know if I can batch process a group

procedure but with little success. When I run the automate script all that I get is the histogram info of the first image. Is there a process for doing this or am I trying achieve something that can not be done. Any advise would be appreciated.

  • Loading images with different horizontal sizes

I would like to load images with different horizontal
resolutions (vertical resolution to be the same) dymanically into
an empty movie clip. I would like them to load with the right hand
side of the image lined up with the right hand side of my site. I
have seen many tutorials about how to accomplish the loading of the
movies, but I cannot figure out how to make them open with the
right hand side always lined up on the right.
To be more specific, let's say I have three images of the
varying pixel resolutions (1200x600, 800x600, and 400x600 for
example). I would like the horizontal size to always extend away
from the right hand side of the site with the right hand edge of
    the images always lined up.
Is this possible to do by loading them into an empty movie
    clip?
    thanks

When you load an image file into an empty movieClip, that
clip takes on the dimensions of the loaded content. The
registration point for the clip is set to the upper left corner.
So, once the new image is loaded, just set that clip's .x to the
stage width - the width of the clip.

  • In Bridge CS6, the "Tools" tab is missing the "Photoshop" option to batch process image

    Hello!
Does anyone know why in Bridge cs6 under the "Tools" tab, my "Photoshop" option is missing?  That is how I have always batch processed images.  In Bridge, I choose the images to process, go to the "Tools" tab, down to the "Photoshop" option then to "Image Processor" and process.  Now when I go into my "Tools" tab it only has the options: Batch Rename, 4 kinds of Metadata related options and Cache.  Can someone tell me why this has happened and how to fix it?  Thank you!!!

    Hello Omke,
This problem lasted for two days.  I tried many suggestions but nothing worked immediately.  Suddenly I turned my computer on last night and it was fixed...inexplicably.  Not sure what worked but something did.  I appreciate you taking the time to offer advice.

  • Matrix with different dimensions for each column

    Hi,
I would like to have a matrix with different dimensions (rows) for each
column, for example, I want the first column has 3 rows, the second one
5 rows, the third one 10 rows, and so on.....
With a simple array it is not possible, and then I make an array (for
my columns) of clusters and each cluster has another array (rows for
that column). Is it the best way to do it? Is it correct?
    Thanks,

  • Batch processing images of various sizes

I'm trying to create 125 pixel square thumbnail images using a batch process and I'm having trouble getting it to work consistently with images that have different aspect ratios. I think I know why it's working the way it is, but I don't know how to work around the function. Here is what I'm doing that doesn't work when the image proportions change:
    1. Resize image to 125 pixels high using the "constrain proportions" option.
    2. Resize canvas to 125 pixels wide, thus cropping the sides to create the square image.
Then I have another process that does the same thing with images in portrait orientation. The problem is, I have some images that are 640x480, for example, and some that are 640x360. If I create the command using a 640x480 image, the 640x360 images are skewed when run through the batch because the "resize image" step is actually setting the dimensions of the image, rather than maintaining the proportions of that particular image. I thought about setting the canvas to a square first, but since not all my images are the same dimensions, I'm not sure how to account for that.
Anyone have any thoughts? I also have Photoshop, but as a novice, I've found Fireworks to be a little more intuitive for some of these basic commands, particularly batch processes.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
    Jeremy

It seems tricker than one might expect to create square thumbnails!
I'm a little confused by the results you're describing. When I try using Modify > Canvas > Canvas Size to crop a document, the result appears in the History panel as "Crop Document". If I select that step and choose "Copy Steps to Clipboard", then paste the results in a text file, I get something like this:
    fw.getDocumentDOM().setDocumentCanvasSize({left:16, top:0, right:141, bottom:125}, true);
This reveals that the canvas is being cropped according to a specific bounding rectangle that may or may not be a great fit for all the other images being processed (depending on their widths). For a more foolproof result, a rectangle like {left:0, top:0, right:125, bottom:125} would be a better choice; however, aesthetically, I'd personally prefer that images be cropped from the center, not the left side.
If I had something better to suggest here, I would. It might be worth checking out Photoshop to see if this type of operation is any easier. • Wny does ACR 7.3 open a .JPG with different dimensions than PS 13.0.1 x64?

I have a .jpg file that opens in Photoshop 13.0.1 x64 as an image with dimensions of 5588 x 4627 pixels. If I set Photoshop to open it in ACR 7.3 it opens with dimensions 4453 x 4418 with the image looking squished horizontally and cropped at the top.
I captured the image on a Nikon D600. I developed the NEF with DxO Optics Pro 8.1.1 and output a TIFF. I opened the TIFF in Photoshop (without using ACR) and did my editing including  some transformation to create mirrored wrap for a canvas. There are versions saved as PSDs. I resized the image for output and used PS to create a JPG. That JPG causes the strange (to me) behavior when Photoshop tries to open the file.
I used the same PSD to create multiple JPGs with differing levels of quality (varyiing from 9MB to 27MB). Photoshop exhibits the same behavior on all of them.
If I process the JPG thruough ACR, the resultant image retains the bad dimensions and distortions.
The Adobe "chat" preresentative said this was expected behavior in a 2+ hour chat. He/she said that they were able to replicate the different dimensions on their end with their images.
Does anyone know if this is normal behavior? If so, why?
    Has anyone experienced something similar?
    Thanks,
    Joe
I am running this on Win7 x64 Home Premium with 8 GB RAM. I also have LR 4.3 installed on the computer and previously used it to process the same NEF file.

I sent the JPG to a service for a print on canvas. They reported that the image was not the proper size and shape when they opened it in Photoshop. Unfortunately I have not been able to get them to tell me what pixel size it was, just rough inches (!?!?!). So I started trying things in Photoshop and came up with this strange behavior that might explain the problem at the service.

  • ACR use of workdisk and scratchdisk when batch processing images

I am setting up a new PC optimized for PS, and I and pondering on the optimal disk setup for ACR when I batch process several images:
    Alternative 1
2 physical disk in raid 0 with 2 partitions, partition 1 for scratch and the second for images to work on.
The question is if there ever will be a conflict in the sence that PS/ACR wants to access both scratch- and work partitions at the same time? If this should occure, I guess the following is a better setup??:
    Alternative 2
    1 physical disk for scratch
1 physical disk for images to work on
    Christopher

    Thank you Ramón,
I am not limited to 2 drives. I am planning on having OS and programs on a third separate disk.
The point of using alternative 1 would be to use RAID 0 to obtain faster read/write (both for scratch and for reading and saving images on the work partition. However, if scratch usage competes with read/write to the work partition, I'm probably better off with alternative 2. If I work on one image this is simple, however I frequently batch process several RAW images. How does ACR/PS handle this? If all the images initially are read from the work partition and loaded into RAM + scratch and processed there, there will be no competition between the two partitions and I will benefit from the RAID solution. However, if the images are read one or just a few at a time, processed in RAM/scratch and then saved to the work partition, I imagine scratch and work partition could be competing for the the disks read/write head when finished images are being saved and ACR is "waiting" for more images to process??

If I had to guess, I'd say you are saving in RAW and jpg. Probably the difference in what you're seeing is that the camera is processing the JPG and the RAW file is just with the basic settings, waiting for further processing in DPP or some other software.
You can set the camera to save in just RAW or JPG.

  • How can I automate creation of various thumbnails of an image with different filenames?

I load an image, SampleA.jpg.  I want to automate creation of different sized thumbnails, one that is 640x360 and called SampleA iStock.jpg, and one that is 360x203 and called SampleA Revostock.jpg.  I want these files to be stored in the same directory as the source image.
To my knowledge actions cannot do this because they hardwire the directory used when recording the action.
I've also looked into scripts and batch processing and can't figure out how they can accomplish this.
If anyone could list a simple step by step instruction how I can do this I would be very appreciative!

In DPP, RAW and JPEG will both show up. The one that says CR2 at the bottom is RAW.
Like previously said, check your camera setting.

  • Joining two fact tables with different dimensions into single logical table

    Hi Gurus,
I try to accomplish in Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.3.0:
    F1 (D1, D2 and D3)
    F2 (D1 and D2 and D4)
    And we want to build a report F1 F2 D1 D2 D3 D4 to have data for:
F1 that match only for D1-D2-D3
    and data for
    F2 that match only D1-D2-D4
all that in one row, so D3 and D4 are not common dimensions.
    I can only do:
    F3 (D1, D2)
    F4 (D1, D2 and D4)
    And report
F3 F4 D1,D2,D4 (all that in one row, and only D4 is not a common dimension)
Here is the very good example how to accomplish the scenario 1
    http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/08/joining-two-fact-tables-with-different.html
But looks like it does not work in 11.1.1.3.0
    I get
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail: [,,Clients,,Day,ROI,,,,EW_Names,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,]. (HY000)
I am sure I set up everything correctly as advised in the blog but it works with only one not a common dimension
Is it a bug in 11.1.1.3.0 or something?
    Thanks,
    Kate

    Thanks for all your replies.
Actually, I've tried the solutions you guys mentioned. Generally speaking, the result should be displayed. However, my scenario is a little bit tricky.
table Y's figures are not the aggregation of table X for D dimension. Instead, table Y's figures include not only D dimension total, but also others (others do not mean A, B, C dimension). For example, table Y stores all food's figure, while table X stores only drink's figure. D dimension is only about drink's detail. In my scenario, other foods' figure is not provided.
So, even if I set D dimension to all/total for table X, table X's result is still not the same as table Y.
Indeed, table Y does not have a column key to join to D dimension's key. So, if I select D dimension and table Y's measures at the same time in BI Answer, result returns no data. Hence, I can't compare table X and table Y's results with selection of D dimension.
Is there any solution to solve this problem?

    Hi,
I want to read an image file, then process it using different runnable classes and then save the output in a different image file.
