Batch Security Removal Does Nothing

I am using Acrobat 9 and have a list of files our company needs to make editable by setting the security to "none".
The predefined batch sequence for removing security does not work. Creating a custom removal batch does not work.
After doing a search in the forums, I found a possible fix in Preferences by setting Batch Processing > Security Method: to "Password Security".
The above did not fix the problem. I run the sequence and all of my files are still secured. It acts like it is running correctly, but there is not change to the document.
Either I am doing something wrong, or this is a bug causing a feature to be inoperable in Acrobat 9.
"Is there a way to fix this inoperation?"
Thank you in advance for your help on this issue.

I found the issue. For some reason the setting for "Security" within the batch process had been changed from "None" to something else. Once I changed and saved the fixed version, it worked.
Thanks Bernd for causing me to relook at the settings!

Reset Security Questions
Frequently asked questions about Apple ID
Manage My Apple ID
Or you can email iTunes Support at iTunes Store Support.
If all else fails:
Go to: Apple Express Lane;
Under Product Categories choose iTunes;
Then choose iTunes Store;
Then choose Account Management;
Press Continue;
Now choose iTunes Store Security and answer the bullet questions, then click Continue;
Sign in with your Apple ID and press Continue;
Under Contact Options fill out the information and advise iTunes that you would like your security/challenge questions reset;
Click Send.
You should get a response within 24 hours by email.
Presently there appears to be problems on Apple's end, so it may be quite some time before they respond.
Another user had success doing the following:
I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" > tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select "done", in the upper right corner
sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the security questions.
At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

And could you tell more details about OS and software version's
Have you already tried to refresh preferences for Bridge?

• I upgraded from 3.6.13 to Beta 4.0 and now Firefox will not open at all I tried to uninstall to start again but it will not uninstall either it does nothing.

I uninstalled Beta 4 and re-installed 3.6.13 now Firefox will not open at all I tried to uninstall to start again but it will not uninstall either it does nothing, I have been using Firefox for a long time but cannot resolve this problem can anyone help and give me a solution please. As I use Firefox as my web browser it is very frustrating.
The fact it will not uninstall appears to be something completely new as nobody I know who uses Firefox has ever encountered this in the past.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

• Batch Keyword Removal Advice

Aperture 2.0 seems to have way too many windows, bars, HUDs, panes for keywording, and yet I cannot for the life of me figure out how to easily remove one or more keywords from a group of selected photos.
Today I selected thirty images and added a keyword. Unfortunately it was misspelled. I can't figure out how to remove that word from all the images, except by removing it from each image, one image at a time.
The "Metadata Inspector", that is the pane on the left, only adds or removes a keyword to a single photo even when more than one are selected. This is also true of the popup pane that rolls up from the bottom of that pane.
Both the Keywords HUD and the Keyword Control bar (across the bottom) only seem to allow me to add keywords; they don't list keywords found in photos.
The Remove Keyword command in the Metadata menu only lists some generic keywords, or lets you remove ALL keywords.
The Batch Change command lets me add metadata, but doesn't list keywords for me to delete.
Okay, there are probably another dozen ways to work with metadata that I'm missing. But can anyone tell me how to remove a keyword from a batch of selected images??
Thanks.

I'll put the steps in sequential order
1. Press shift-D if necessary to show the keyword controls in the control bar.
2. Select the photos with the unwanted keyword in the browser
3. Put focus on the keyword entry field in the control bar either by clicking in it or by pressing option-`. You could also select "New Keyword" from the Metadata menu.
4. Slowly begin typing the unwanted keyword in the field. Aperture autofills the keywords. I usually type only the first few letters; Aperture presents a list and I use the up and down arrows to select the keyword. Note that you haven't pressed enter or return yet.
5. Press shift-return to remove the keyword from all of the selected photos. If you had pressed just return, then Aperture would have added the keyword to the photos. Shift-return does the opposite.
6. Notice that focus is still on the keyword field. Press enter or escape to exit the field. It can be frustrating to forget the focus is in there as you press keys to do other things. I do that all the time.
I'm pretty sure there is no penalty for selecting photos that don't contain the keyword you want to remove; in other words, if your selection process includes some photos without the keyword, nothing bad will happen when you do this batch keyword removal.
You can verify that you have removed all usages of a keyword by using the Query HUD. The keyword list in the Query HUD shows only keywords that have been assigned to photos in the library. If you remove the unwanted keyword from every photo, that keyword will disappear from the Query HUD keyword list.
That keyword entry field is pretty useful, especially thanks to auto-fill, which acts as a verification that you are using existing keywords, in addition to being a kind of shortcut. I have found it best to add keywords in the keyword HUD, organize them in a hierarchy, and then lock the keyword HUD. This keeps me from inadvertently adding a keyword. If you add a keyword on the fly, Aperture puts it at the top level of the keyword hierarchy, which is never the right place in my system.

• Desktop.getInstance().open(file) does nothing (nothing happens)

I 've seen this on a user's computer:
Desktop.getInstance().open(myFile);
does nothing: no exception, no stacktrace, nothing.
It doesn't work for pdf or for xls files (and probably for all other file types too).
However, if he double clicks on a pdf or xls file in Windows Explorer it opens (in acrobat reader / MS Excel).
This also works in DOS-prompt: "start C:\myFile.pdf"
Making it canonical first doesn't work either:
Desktop.getInstance().open(myFile.getCanonicalFile());
Environment:
Java 6 update 16
Windows XP SP 3
A webstart application with all security permissions.
I've removed all JRE's and even removed the USER_HOME/application data/Sun map.
He upgraded from Windows XP SP2 to SP3 with no change.
Has anyone any idea what is causing this?
This problem has been metioned before, but they don't mention a cause or solution: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5338022

Hi,
I also have the same problem, but with my JNI and C++ expertise, I was able to isolate the problem.
My platform:
- Microsoft Windows XP, Family Edition (French), Version 2002, Service Pack 3
- JRE 1.6.0_21
In the source of the JDK6 (Src/windows/classes/sun/awt/windows/WDesktopPeer.java), the Desktop.open(file) calls the native method
ShellExecute(*uri.toString()*, "open")
For example, if you try to open "c:\helloworld.pdf",
uri.toString() = "*file:/c:/helloworld.pdf*"if I call ShellExecute("C:\\helloworld.pdf", "open"), it works
but if I call ShellExecute(" file:/c:/helloworld.pdf", "open"), it doesn't work on my platform.
In both case, the ShellExecuteW or ShellExecuteA function of the Windows API return the integer 42 (> 32), saying that the functions succeeded. If the file object is not correct, the function should return a value <= 32.
=> The bug is not due to Java implementation, but to a bug in the Windows API.
Other remark:
I also tried the "ShellExec_RunDLL" entry point of the Shell32.dll library using RunDll32 utility. Both commands below are running correctly:
rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "C:\hello.pdf"
rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "file:/C:/hello.pdf"My conclusion:
1) A workaround could be implemented in the JRE: use the file path without the "file:/" protocol prefix.
2) This bug seems to be present only one some version of Windows XP (to confirm).

• Why does my itunes crash after start up with an "APPCRASH" error every time i open it?! I have been trying to fix this for weeks but all i can do it re-install it every other day which does nothing!

Why does my itunes crash after start up with an "APPCRASH" error every time i open it?! I have been trying to fix this for weeks but all i can do it re-install it every other day which does nothing! I am desperate to get access to my itunes to get music on my phone and all of this just makes me want me to sell my iphone since there is no other way to add music to my phone. If things go get sorted soon you can say goodbye to my support.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

• Clicking on M/S' RUN and/or SAVE does nothing - just sits there

Have had this problem for a few days. In trying to open again, it always tells me Firefox is still running and to close it first. There is no Firefox running! Have uninstalled FF and in trying to install a new one, I get as far as the Run/Save; clicking on either one does nothing, it just sits there. Thanks for your help. PS - I've been using FF for ages - first time I've had this problem. PPS = tried to cut/paste browser url but went to open a file.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u> See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279 [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer offer the option to remove personal data -->

• "OPEN" button in Purchases list does nothing

My machine is a Mac Pro (5,1; 12-core 2.4GHz; 64 GB RAM). My boot drive is a 1TB Crucial M5, holding about 350GB. There are also two 3TB and one 4TB hard drives installed in the machine. I updated to Yosemite (10.10 -- 14A389) from Mountain Lion (10.8.5) a few days ago. Afterwards App Store indicated required updates for Xcode, Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor. I downloaded all of those updates to completion. On its "Updates" tab App Store reports all of them as having been installed in the last 30 days. However, only older incompatible versions of the software reside in my Applications folder. When I sign-in and inspect my Purchases list in App Store, those applications each show an "OPEN" button instead of an "INSTALLED" or "DOWNLOAD" button. Clicking the "OPEN" button installed Xcode. Clicking their corresponding buttons does nothing in the cases of Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor. There are no unfinished downloads according to App Store. Before I updated to Yosemite I had updated Logic Pro X to v10.0.7. That version of the app is installed and will run. However, it is also shown as "OPEN" in my App Store Purchased list. All of this makes very little sense to me. How do I go about actually installing Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor?

Hi,
I've came across this issue before. I had to remove the less than and greater than ("<" and ">") signs from the LOV template. Go to Shared Components --> Templates and edit the PopUp LOV template.

• Clicking on links in Safari does nothing

Running OS 10.8.5 on desk top iMac.  Lately, today, have found that clicking ona link in Safari does nothing.  Simply stays on the same page I was viewing.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

• Lookout 6.6 - Logon Error: Security file does not exist

I'm trying to run Lookout 6.6 evaluation. It loads fine, I get a message saying that it's running evaluation version. I press OK to clear that box and a logon window opens. It's filled in with the default settings, Administator, local doman, no password. I click Log On and it gives me the error which is in the subject line, security file does not exist.
I've read on here that the lookout.sec file doesn't exist in the System32 folder. In this case, I've found it and it's there.
I've trying different user names, I took the .sec file and copied it in various locations: windows folder, and the programs root folder - obviously there was no effect. I tried editing the lookout.ini file to remove the log on information to see if that clears it up (even deleted the file to see if that work), but to no avail. I also tried re-installing the program, but there is no uninstall button - windows program removal tool cannot even remove, modify, or repair the program. I ran the install a couple of times as well.
Does anyone know what I can do?
Here's what I'm running:
(I bought this computer today)
Windows 7 x64-bit Home Premium
4gb ram
500gb hard drive
It's very minimal, since all the computer is meant to do is run this program and replace the computer Lookout 5.0 was running on (mobo got fried).
- Please - let me know if you have any suggestions.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hi Mike! Thanks for replying!
I've just tried it in admin mode and it hasn't worked. I've also tried using compatability mode, but to no avail.
I downloaded the lookout 6.2 version to try and it gives me the same error as well.
Another thing to note, I tried uninstalling it (either lookout 6.6 or 6.2 doesn't matter), but all options it gives (modify, repair, and uninstall) are all greyed out.
Any thoughts/ideas?

• ITunes 12.1.1.4 on Windows 8.1 OS.  Player/controller does nothing.  Fixes?

I installed iTunes 12.1.1.4 on Windows 8.1 OS. When trying to play any song, the player/controller does not do anything.  No errors, just does nothing.  Any ideas of causes or how to fix?

The fix was to completely remove all Apple Software following guides in previous posts.
Then download and re-install latest iTunes 64-bit, making sure to Run As Administrator.
This fixed it. Now the next thing seems to be that as I move from one device to another to close and restart iTunes between each one. Treat it gently. It seems to break easily and a lot.

• Trying to download Trial of Photoshop CS5.1 but it is doing nothing!

Dear Adobe
I am currently trying to download the trial version of your Photoshop CS5.1 Extended and have tried to download the Adobe CS5 Standard but when I down load these they have the same reaction. They do nothing.
I have been downloading, uninstalling and reinstalling the Adobe Download Assistant and tried doing the whole process again. But there is still no success.
At the start it all looks fine, it asks me to sign in to my Adobe ID to continue, I do so. Then it asks me to choose a location to put the file. I do so.
Then it says Welcome, Michelle on the top right corner. And does nothing. At the bottom of the download ribbon it still says Sign in with your Adobe ID to continue, but the thing is I already have.
I have even given it half an hour to sort itself out and do something, but it still hasnt.
I am on a Windows Vista Operating system. My laptop seems to be making sounds like its doing something....but from the looks of things there is no progress.
Someone please help me! :s
ThanKS,
Michelle x

Michelle are you using a software firewall which might be preventing the Adobe Download Assistant from contacting the internet?
Beyond that I would recommend trying to initiate the download through a different web browser after removing the Adobe Download Assistant.
