BB speed with FTTC/21CN WBC

Hi,
trying to discover if I will benifit from FTTC/21CN WBC work thats happening to my exchange.  I live in a small village on what is classed as a long ADSL Line,  I sync around 900k.  Now I know my exhange is SNOD(snodland) however talking to the BT engineer thats been working on my fault, most of his work with my line has been in a smaller exchange about 1 mile down the road(as the crow flies) next to our firestation.  So I presume we dont have any street cabs but our lines go via telegraph poles direct to this smaller exchange for want of a better word.
Our exchange is due for upgrade very soon
With FTTC status end of March 2012
21CN WBC status end of August 2012.
Will this benifit me? I still have the same long line to the exchange,  if FTTC is enabled, as far as I know(just from looking) we have no cabinets in our street.  So appealing to the experts here.
Cheers, Lee

if your connection speed is <1mb then 21CN will make no difference to your connection speed.  FTTC will depend on how far away the cabinet is from your home and more important if in fact you get a new infinity cabinet if you are that far away from the exchange

    Hi
My rural exchange is due for 21CN WBC upgrade this June
I was wondering if anyone has had a good experience following this type of upgrade -  specifically on a long line
The 'experts' claim there will be no positive impact for low speed long line sufferers but interested to hear from anyone with 'real life' experience of this
    My stats:
    Sync around 1.3meg
    D/Load around 900k
    U/Load around 280k
    snr down 6db
    Line Att 74db
    Router/modem BT 2Wire 2700
    Faceplate fitted

big difference from 55 to 74 though  a 1.3mb connection with 74 attenuation is good

  • Very slow transfer speeds with external hard drives through Firewire and US

    Hi All,
My external drives transfer very slowly on my MacPro. I've been searching for answers and have turned up very little. Apple support suggested I post my issue here. Just to make a note, I measured my disk speeds with both AJA System Test and copying files between drives and reading the Disk Activity in Activity Monitor.
I have 3 external drives, all MyBook Premium or Professional, 1x 500GB, 1x 1TB and 2x 1TB in RAID 0. I had them on Firewire 400 and the RAID 0 2TB one on Firewire 800. My transfers on FW were all around 24MB/sec on all drives (much less than what I should be getting with FW400). I then read somewhere that the FW bus on the MacPro uses the slowest speed connected for all FW connections. So I unplugged everything but the FW800 Raid 0 drive and my transfer rate jumped to 40-60MB/sec. This is much better, but still about half or so of what I expect it should be producing from an external RAID 0 setup.
To keep my FW800 backup drive faster, I've plugged the other two into USB2.0. The transfer speeds on both drives are now hideous, around 10-15MB/sec. This is so slow, but I'm not sure what to try to fix my speeds.
The HD's in the external drives are all 7200rpm, and all should be transferring at a higher rate. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Ideally I'd like to get everything transferring at rates they should be transferring at, but I'll settle with my current FW800 speed of 40-60MB/sec if I can get my other two drives transferring at a non-snail pace.
Is this a common issue? I can't believe I'm the only one plugging multiple external hard drives into their Mac Pro. I hope someone has a fix or solution for this. I'm all ears!
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Kappy, thanks for the information.
So I rejigged my setup a tad. My RAID 0 is still FW800, the second drive is back on FW400 on the back port, and the third is USB 2.0 on the back as well.
It's interesting to note that I saw the FW800 taking a bandwidth hit if the FW400 drives was being read/written to. For example, if I was averaging 50-60MB/sec on the FW800 drives and copy something large to the FW400 drive, each drive averages out to about 30/MB second, roughly half the FW800 speed I was getting. The USB while the slowest didn't cause any slowness on the FW drives.
Here are my Xbench results. These results are from each drive being benchmarked individually with no other drives being tested at the same time.

  • RTL 8188CE poor speed with fluctuations on Wind box DC111

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with speed with my WIFI adapter ( RTL 8188CE in AzureWare AW-NE139H ). I think that the problems may be in the drivers.
The "Local Area Connection Status" report speed between 90 and 120 Mbps but when I start copy files from another pc connected to router via LAN the transfer speed is less than 300Kb. When I place the router to 1 meter from my Wind Box the transfer speed is less than 4Mbps and have a lot of fluctuations. My router is TP-Link WR843ND and I haven't any problems with it when I use my laptop or mobile devices. I try the drivers from MSi site, from Realtek's site and from azure ware. I use Windows 7 64bit. When I test it on Windows 8.1 64bit the problem was worst - the speed was less than 100Kb.
Does someone have any idea how to solve the problem. I Googled a lot but without luck.
    My system is: Wind Box DC111( RTL 8188CE in AzureWare AW-NE139H ), Windows 7 64 bit, router TP-Link WR843ND

You can try the Realtek driver if you think it's driver related: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true

  • Encoder Speed with NI 9215 module and cDAQ-9172

I've a NI cDAQ-9172 with the NI9215 analog input module, and I want to estimate the speed with an optical encoder (OMRON E6A2-CW3C). My approach was, making a comparison with a point in the midle of the high of the signal, ie 4V, making this way a perfect square signal with 1of high. After that I use the Tone Measurements and the Timing and Transition Measurements modules to calculate the frequency of the wave form, and this way I'm able to calculate the RPM speed.
The problem with this solution, is that even with the engine at a constant speed of 746RPM, measured with a stroboscope, Labview give me a high variable values between 730RPM to 760RPM, and I can't solve this problem because I really need an accurate measurement.
Should I buy for example the NI 9401 module to make this measurement? If so, does any one knows how to build a VI to get the encoder speed?
In attach I send the VI that I'm using to calculate the speed.
    Thank you for help.

    Hi,
The best way to measure a speed through a quadrature encoder is to use the counters that are inside the cDAQ chassis.
With the 9172 chassis, you need a digital I/O module (9401) in order to access the counters.
With the new generation of chassis (9178), you don't need the 9401 because you can connect your encoder signals to the BNC.

  • Measuring speed with incremental single counter

    Hi,
I need to measure the rotational speed and acceleration of a wheel that has 3 hall sensors on it. I will use only 1 of them en it gives 24 pulses 0-5V for a 360° rotation. How can I measure the speed with only a pulse train. I dont have the Quadric encoder...
Now I'd like to measure the rotational speed using a counter of some sort, but the software I tried writing for it isnt working.
    Thank you for your help

    Hey Nitch,
    Concerning the measurements errors:
As you get error when speeding up, it looks like the pulses coming from the hall sensors are to short to get measured by the counter.
Following the USB-6008 specifications, the pulse needs to have a minimum lenght of 100ns (both in high and low state).
As a counter is using edges to count the pulses (for USB-6008 only the falling edge) the edges need to comply with the TTL specifications which means that the rise and fall time of the pulse needs to be within the 50ns range.
So please have a look at the pulse lenght at higher speeds (are they at least 100ns?) and make sure the pulse comply with the TTL specifications.
If not you will have to add some additional electronics to reshape the pulses.
    Looking at your program.
It's not nescesarry to have two loops.  It's very well possible to have two DAQ tasks within the same look.
Have a look at the Examples which come with LabVIEW --> Exampled Finder --> Hardware Input/Output --> DAQmx --> Synchronization --> Multi-Function.
There are some examples which so the combination of analog and digital input.
Anyhow you will have to remove the right while loop as the DAQ Express VI which apparently gives you the "spanning, stroom, gashendel" values will only start once you have done the counter measurements.  I assume that you would like to have the "spanning", "stroom", "gashendel" and"speed" synchronized measured.
Then you have the choice to log to file during acquisition or after the acquisition.
If you would like to log on the fly don't use the express VI's, but use the lower lever "File I/O" functions. These are faster (less processor time usage).
As you VI is written now, the left while loop will only output the lastest counter value measured to the next loop when you click the stop button for example.
You have to "Enable Indexing" of the m/s output tunnel.  Right click on the tunnel and you will be able to select "Enable Indexing".
This way the application will automatically create an array and each loop iteration the measured value will be added.  One the measurements have been done you can do analysis and save the data using the full array instead of point by point.
Again, also bring your "spanning, stroom and gashendel" inputs to the left loop.
In your right loop you also have a loop counter.
You can simply use the loop iteraction counter (the square box in the left bottom corner with the i).  This is also counting from 0 and incrementing by 1 each loop iteration.
Again, you can do this in the left loop and forget the second loop completely.
Hopes this will bring you a step further.
Don't hesitate to post the VI itself.  This is always easier to look at than an image.
This way we can also make some modications and post it back.

  • Very slow download speeds with ATT U-Verse

    Hello,
Experiencing very slow download speeds with Macbook Pro 2011, on Lion,  and ATT UVerse Max, which should allow for an avg. 11-12 MBPS speed. Instead, I get a fluctuating 60-370 kbps speed. I am not experiencing this problem on my Windows machines (Laptop running Windows 7 and Desktop on XP), it is only affecting the Macbook pro. I wonder if this issue is a known problem with ATT U-Verse and Macs, I spent hours yesterday with their support online and they couldn't help me, stating that from their side all settings were OK; the first representative from ATT re-booted the router remotely and that seemed to work for about 10 minutes, and then it went back to a crawling speed...
    Any suggestions welcome!
    Thanks

Do you have QOS enabled in your router? Did you try plugging the win7 laptop directly and check the speed?

  • Degraded Upload Speed With Netgear R6300 - Help Pl...

    Hi,
I changed my router for BT Infinity from the Home Hub 3 to a Netgear R6300 and have suffered a degradation of the upload speed.
Previously with the BT Home Hub I was getting 16 mbps upload but after changing to the Netgear R6300 I am getting 12 mbps upload. Changing back to the BT Home Hub 3 restores the upload speed to 16mbps.
There was no degradation of the download speed with both the BT Home Hub 3 and the Netgear R6300 giving 74mbps.
To setup the Netgear R6300, I allowed the Netgear Genie to detect the internet and offer me the WAN type and login options. It automatically selected WAN Type of PPPoE and I then entered the usual login details of
    UserName = [email protected]
    Password = BT
After selecting these options and exiting the Netgear Geniie to go back to the internet it was all working but with the degraded upload speed.
Is there something I need to manually configure in the router to get the maximum upload speed for my connection?
    Any help most appreciated.

  • 802.11ac wifi speeds with the BCM4360 chip and broadcom-wl driver

    Hello,
    First, some preliminary information:
I'm currently in need of a wireless adapter for my desktop computer. I recently got an Asus RT66U router, so I'm looking for a wireless adapter that supports the 802.11ac standard. The best candidate I've come across is the Asus PCE-AC68, and PCIe based adapter that uses Broadcom's BCM4360 chip, the same wifi chip used in the Late 2013 retina Macbook Pro. It is worth noting that every available 802.11ac compatible PCIe based wireless adapter seemingly uses this chip (I've heard of people having success with 802.11ac speeds using Qualcomm Atheros based wifi adapters and the ath10k driver, but there are no Atheros-based PCIe wireless adapters on the market, as far as I can tell).
The Broadcom BCM4360 chip is not supported by the b43 driver, and I believe it also isn't supported by the brcmsmac driver, since it isn't listed here.
This leaves me with the proprietary broadcom-wl driver, which is listed as supporting the BCM4360.
What I'm interested in learning is how a wireless adapter based on the BCM4360 will perform using the broadcom-wl driver--I don't want to buy a wifi adapter that won't work at its full capacity, after all.
I have found user reports here and here from April 2014 stating that the driver runs BCM4360 based adapters in 802.11a/b/g mode and doesn't allow 802.11n and 802.11ac connections to be made. On the other hand, this user (in a post from June) states that he managed to get ac speeds in Arch simply by changing his router settings. Unfortunately, he doesn't detail what changes he made.
I'm hopeful that the driver was simply updated between April and June and that now BCM4360-based wifi adapters can run at 802.11ac speeds, but as it's closed source, I can't check the commits, and have not been able to find any discussion more recent than what I linked above.
Has anyone had success getting 802.11ac speeds with BCM4360-based wifi adapters and the broadcom-wl driver?

I am currently using the BCM4360 (rev 03) in a MacBook Pro. You are correct in that it does not work with the b43 driver. It mostly works with the proprietary wl driver. I am using the broadcom-wl AUR package. I can confirm that 802.11n works. I am connected right now at 324Mbps (3 .11n spatial streams). I have not tried 802.11ac yet. I will soon, so I will report back.
As for the caveats, it doesn't like 802.1X networks very much. To get it working using wpa_supplicant, I have to reload the wl module. Sometimes when I reload it, it comes back as wlan0 instead of wlp3s0. No idea why. Yet, when I tried it with Network Manager on an Ubuntu live environment, it worked fine. YMMV. It always works fine for me at home on a WPA2-PSK network. If I can pin down something with more consistency, I'll let you know.
    For reference:

    03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:43a0] (rev 03)
According to kernel.org, BCM4360 could be either 14e4:4360 or 14e4:43a0
