BC4J with Swing Application

Is there possible to use Business Components for Java in Java/Swing applications without using any kind of application server?

Yes. You just deploy your business components as a simple archive (JAR file). Your business components JAR file is then deployed to the client along with your ADF Swing JAR file. You will also have to deploy the ADF Runtime libraries to the client as well. The easiest way to deploy the standalone application is using Java Webstart. JDeveloper supports Webstart as a deployment method for ADF Swing applications. Unfortunately, there are some manual things that you have to do to package Oracle's ADF runtime libraries to do this, however. You can find the steps in this document: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/papers/10g/adfjclientbcwebstart.pdf
Hopefully, Oracle will simplify this process in a future version of JDeveloper.
Hope this helps.

    I'd like to use a reporting tool (Crystal Reports or anything else) with Swing application. Could anyone help me?

    You have to pass the values are parameters to the Oracle Reports report. Take a look at this: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/howtos/howto_integrate_oracle_reports.html
    Also you can search this forum for "Oracle Reports"

  • Memory leak with Swing application

    My application uses more and more memory as I use it. However, if it is working like I think, it is not creating more objects and has no reason to use more memory. When the application is minimized a lot of that memory is freed up. Does anyone know what is the cause of this? I have a sneaking suspicion that it is somehow related to my swingworkers. Also, if it is an error with my code how do I use the netbeans profiler to find the cause? I have just used the profiler for the first time - all I really can tell is that it seems to consume more and more memory.

    To answer a comment earlier in this thread, of course
    the jvm is doing garbage collection - that's the way
    java works. Nobody said otherwise. What was said was that the JVM doesn't necessarily release the memory. Just because the object has been collected doesn't mean the JVM is going to give it back to the OS.
    As I understand, when you do System.gc()
    this is apparently just a hint to the jvm to do
    garbage collection. To quote the api:
    "Calling the gc method suggests that the Java
    Virtual Machine expend effort toward recycling
    unused objects in order to make the memory they
    currently occupy available for quick reuse."Which is irrelevant. Furthermore, this thread is almost a year old.

  • Problem with "find" mode in adf/swing application

    Hi all,
    I'm working on ADF Swing application which uses MS SQL Server 2005 (JDeveloper 10g 10.1.3)
    I think that my issue might be well-known…sorry if it has been already discussed somewhere else…
    I have a problem with the “find” mode for a detail panel in a master-detail form…(To make it clear the “find” mode is switched on when clicking on the special button on a navigation panel).
    So this mode works well in a master panel, but it demonstrates strange behavior on a detail panel, i.e. it takes me two attempts to find the necessary child object and it doesn’t switch back in a simple way from this mode to the normal mode….say if we are in the department 10 (Dept is a master form) we can’t simply find KING employee (Emp is a detail form)…is there any workaround for this?
    Thanks in advance. Alex.

  • Swing application with JavaHelp crashes outside Netbeans IDE.

    Hi guys I have developed a small swing application in Netbeans IDE. I used the following code inside the IDE for JH.
    public void createHelp()
           try {
                   URL hsURL = new URL("jar:file:eDictionaryHelp.jar!/eDictionaryHelp/eDictionary.hs");
                   hs = new HelpSet(null, hsURL);
           catch (Exception ee)
            // Say what the exception really is
            System.out.println( "HelpSet " + ee.getMessage());
            System.out.println("HelpSet "+ helpHS +" not found");
            JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), ee.getMessage(), "Error", ERROR_MESSAGE);
            hb = hs.createHelpBroker();
       }When I run the program inside the IDE and and click on the corresponding MenuItem.. JavaHelp comes up as it should! No problems with that.
    But when I build the project and tried to run it from the .jar file in the PROJECT_HOME/dist/ the swing got displayed till this function was called. and then it simply crashed.
    Investigating further and commenting out one line at a time and compiling I found out that whenever the hs = new HelpSet(null, hsURL); is encountered, the app crashes (it doesnt throw any error).
    But as I said this is not the case when i run and compile inside the IDE. I only get this problem when running the app from outside the IDE.
    I have tried all kinds of combinations of the URL .. for eg ( I am aware of Bug 4149782)
    ClassLoader cl = this.getClass().getClassLoader();
    try {
                   URL hsURL = HelpSet.findHelpSet(cl, helpHS);
    .What can be the problem guys? Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Anyone has an answer on this?
    I am facing the same problem.. I am using NetBeans 5.5
    arijit_datta, do u have a solution for this problem already?

  • Unicode characters with accents won't display in Java Swing applications

    I'm using FreeMind (a Java Swing application) and I need to enter classical Greek characters with accent marks. When I type an accented Greek character, FreeMind displays the unaccented character. However, I can type the accented character in MS Word, then copy and paste into FreeMind, the accented character appears.
    One of the FreeMind developers indicated this was a Java Swing issue, not FreeMind, and suggested I test with another Swing application. So, I installed jEdit and got exactly the same results. I can paste an accented character into jEdit, but I cannot type it in directly.
    I'm using Windows Vista with Java 6 Update 22 (build 1.6.0_22-b04). I also tested on a XP Pro box with Java 1.6.0_18-b07 and got the same result.
    One other note: A couple days ago, I was able to type accented Greek characters into FreeMind. But it only worked for a couple days and then the behavior reverted to unaccented characters. It is possible, but I don't recall specifically, that I updated Java during the time and that may indicate a bug in one version of Java but not another.
    Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Darin

    Walter,
    The link you provided does not appear to describe the Greek Polytonic keyboard. (The page also describes using the "Option" key as the dead key. There is no "Option" key on my keyboard. I'm using a Sony VGN-NS140E purchased in Chicago, i.e. standard physical US keyboard.)
    Please see http://darindavis.net/languages/keyboard_Greek.pdf for a detailed description of how to use the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard in Windows to produce a complete set of accented classical Greek characters. This method works in MS Word and Notepad. I enabled the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard with:
    Windows (Vista) Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Change Keyboards > General > Add > Greek (Greece) > Greek Polytonic
    A test that will demonstrate whether you can replicate the error is to do the following in both MS Word (or Notepad) and jEdit (or FreeMind):
    1. Enable the Greek Polytonic keyboard
    2. Type "\" then "e" which should produce an epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent (ἒ)
    When I do this in MS Word or Notepad, I see the epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent. When I do this in jEdit and FreeMind, I only see an epsilon.
    I recorded a screencast to illustrate the problem: http://www.screencast.com/t/TRKkKQrCgbN
    Actually, this problem is transient. Sometimes FreeMind or jEdit will display accented characters, other times it won't. Ironically, the first time I recorded the above referenced screencast, a few characters in jEdit did appear with accents. A couple minutes later, I re-recorded the screencast and as you can see jEdit did not display the accents. Between the two recordings I literally did nothing other than stop the Jing recording and start a new one. There is another variable at play here and I can't determine what it is. The most likely source seems to be Java since MS Word and Notepad consistently display accent characters.
    Thanks,
    Darin

  • Install swing application on server/desktop with database

    Hi,
    I developped a swing application which I need to install soon. It's the first time I install an application on my own, so any help would be welcome.
    I use maven for build, hibernate for the database access.
    Is there anything I need to take into consideration about the following things (are there good sites for reference?):
    - the build process
    - I use an external database (mysql), the configuration files are part of the program (they are not put somewhere external) --> any advice on good practices?
    - if the database is put on a server, as well as the jar file of the program, will there be any problem when trying to open the program from another computer, having access to the server?
    - if the database is put on a server, and the jar file of the program on a computer having access to the server (for the database), beside the normal hibernate configuration for the database (ip adres, port, ...), are there important things that might cause problems for the communication between the program and the database?
    thanks for any advice

There are always problems when trying to communicate between two machines. Have you set up your MySQL server so that your database accepts connections from all other machines, for example? Or does it just accept connections from "localhost" because that's where you were testing?

The names of some of those things are "firewall" and "router".

  • BC4J and OAS with Java Application Client

    Could you show me an example about using the BC4J and OAS with Java Application client.
    The JDeveloper Help is not enough to solve this kind of problem.
    Configuration:
    Jdeveloper 3.1
    OAS 4.0.8.1
    Database 7.3.4
    null

    if you can logon with client tools then that should be an indication that the service account running the CMS IS working! Good news.
    So the problem is likely with the java portion (krb5/bsclogin or java options)
    If the files are in c:\winnt\ (if not copy them there) and perform c:\program files\business objects\javasdk\bin\kinit username
    then enter and password/enter again
    Probably get the same message. To note in your krb5.ini all domain info must be in CAPS (the .com appears to be in lower case)
    kinit works with just the krb5.ini, java SDK and AD (removing BO config and the service account from the picture). Once that works if your java options are specified properly you should be able to login to CMC/infoview.
    also 1 last point. Add udp_preference_limit = 1 to the krb5 lib defaults section
    libdefaults
    default_realm = BD.com
    dns_lookup_kdc = true
    dns_lookup_realm = true
    udp_preference_limit = 1

  • How to share JHS BC4J data model with  JClient application ?

    In our project, some application system using JHS Struts/JSP solution but others which need rich UI application prepare to adapt JClient solution, so whether we can share JHS BC4J data model with JClient application ?

    Ting Rung,
    The JClient application will communicate with your application module. So all logic in you app module, EO's and VO's can be resued by JClient. Logic in Jheadstart handlers cannot be reused.

    If you want a simple date picker, try this one

    instead of displaying the date:
    - passing the 'date picked' back to the calling object
    - close the popup

  • Can I build a GUI application with SWING only without [import java.awt.*;]

    I have seen several threads (in forums), books and tutorials about SWING and I see that they all mix SWING with AWT (I mean they import both Swing and AWT in their code).
    The conclusion that comes out is:
    It is good to learn about SWING and forget AWT as it won't be supported later. I have decided to do so, and I never include <<import java.awt.*;>> in my code.
    But I see that you cannot do much without <<import java.awt.*;>>. For example this line which changes the background color:
    <<frame.getContentPane().setBackground(Color.red)>>
    works only with <<import java.awt.*;>>. I have seen that codes in this and other forums import awt to change the background. Why is that?
    After all, I wonder, what can I do;
    My question is, can I change the background (and of course do all other things listener, buttons etc) without using <<import java.awt.*;>>.
    I would like to avoid using <<import java.awt.*;>> and using awt since my program will not work later.
    In addition, I believe there is no point to learn awt, which later will not exist.
    I know, I must have misunderstood something. I would appreceate it very much, if anyone could give me even a short answer.
    Thank you in advance,
    JMelsi

    Since swing is a layer on top of awt, AWT will exist for as long as swing does.
    If sun does ever remove AWT they will have to replace it something else swing can layer on to and you will probably only have to replace your import statements.
    The main difference is the way there drawn to the screen.
    You can do custom drawing on swing components but you can't on AWT.
    If your using a desktop PC system it's probably best to use swing just in case you wish to do some custom drawing.
    awt uses less memory than swing and is faster but swing can be extended. awt comes only as standard.
    Say for example you wish to implement a JButton with a ProgressBar below the button text, this can be done with swing!

  • How to get mouse wheel action in my swing application?

    Hi
    In my mouse, i am having mousewheel to support scrolling.With the help of the wheel, i can scroll the pages in IE browser or any other appliction.
    In swing application ,i have scroll bar inside a JFrame.I want to have mousewheel action in my swing application to support scrolling.

    As far as I know,there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
    Check it in the later releases of JDK.
