BCF in BPC - Consolidation on YTD Model

Hi
I would like to know whether we need to run the BCF for every period in BPC- Consolidation NW 10 with YTD model.
If you’re using a YTD model for consolidations, then you need to run the BCF
package for each period of the new year. This is necessary to record the opening
balance for each period because in a YTD model, the opening balance isn’t summed
up from the prior periods.

SAP BOSS

Hi,
if by BCF you mean the carry forward of balances business rule then the answer is yes, you need to run it for every period in a YTD model.
Alternatively you could copy the opening balance flow data from one month to another as it remains constant throughout a financial year, showing always the closing amount from the prior year end period.

  • BPC Consolidation application - YTD or periodic

    Hi,
YTD or Periodic - For legal consolidation (IFRS, USGAAP), what would be the best option for a customer with ECC, BW and BPC landscape. Are there any major issues in mapping specific consolidation process in YTD application (like reconciliation with ECC data ect).

    Hello Lokesh,
The IFRS focuses mainly on the reporting aspects of financial results of an enterprise. Consolidated or not, for all listed companies, these requirements impose strict norms that need to be adhered to for reporting the financial results. Therefore, if an enterprise has many subsidiaries and the numbers are reported for the group as per the IFRS norms, it still presupposes that ALL the norms have been adhered to.
In respect of Business Objects Planning and Consolidation, SAP has come up with a Starter Kit for IFRS adoption. It is pre-configured with all reports, controls and rules for performing, validating and publishing a statutory consolidation in accordance with IFRS standards. An enterprise may have the desired setting for its Consolidation Definition. One of the settings is choosing a pre-defined variant that allows it to have either Periodic or YTD setting to be selected for a given category, data period and currency. For more information, follow this link:
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/bofc10/en/FC10_SK_IFRS_ConfDesc_en.pdf
In my view, for legal consolidation, the consolidated financial information is valid only if it is YTD. The periodic values are needed only for calculating the movements - for Statement of Cash Flows. This aspect is well taken care of in the Consolidation Processing u2013 either Full Processing or Incremental processing.
If you want to reconcile the balances as per ECC, BI as well as BPC, you have to consider only the YTD values.
Hope this gives adequate information for clarifying your doubt.

  • Currency Conversion issue for YTD model

    Hello,
Currently our Client is using YTD (year to date) model to maintain data into BPC 7.5NW, and planning to use BPC for currency conversion from LC to USD. They are not converting the values in Transactional system. When performing this all Balance sheet accounts will be using YTD model for conversion, but income statement accounts should be using Periodic values for conversion.
We have two different Entity FX types: one is USDFNC - USD functional and NUSDFNC - Non USD functional. One of the differences between these two FX types is CTA account, USDFNC is using expense Account to Book CTA and NUSDFNC is using Equity Account to book CTA.
To achieve the above mentioned requirement, I did configure BPC as follows:
    1) Use RATE type AVG (average for Income statement accounts)
    2) Use RATE type END (spot rate for Balance sheet Accounts)
    3) In business rules for Account rate type AVG- formula would be [AVG], apply to periodic flag will be checked.
    5) in business rules for Account Rate Type END - Formula would be [END], apply to periodic flag will be blank.
    6) To calculate CTA for ENTITY FX type- NUSDFNC, I configured the following in Account Rate type AVG - destination account is equity account, Formula is [END]-[AVG], apply to periodic flag will be blank and Entity FX type is NUSDFNC.
    7) To calculate CTA for ENTITY FX type- USDFNC, I configured the following in Account Rate type AVG - destination account is expense account, Formula is [END]-[AVG], apply to periodic flag will be blank and Entity FX type is USDFNC.
Above configuration is giving me correct converted result for all Balance sheet accounts and income statement accounts are showing the correct values when I use the formula (current period LC amount-previous period LC amount)*(current period AVG rate). But I saw difference in Balance sheet, so further analyzed CTA (currency Translation Accounts) and found that the difference is because of CTA amount only. Similar CTA differences exist for both USDFNC entities and NUSDFNC entities. So, I think my logic to calculate CTA is not working.
I am using the standard script logic to run Currency Conversion:
    *RUN_PROGRAM CURR_CONVERSION
         CATEGORY  = %CATEGORY_SET%
         TID_RA = %TIME_SET%
         CURRENCY = %RPTCURRENCY_SET%
         RATEENTITY = GLOBAL
    *ENDRUN_PROGRAM
    *COMMIT
Can any one help me to understand whether this configuration is correct? I feel that I may need to change the logic for calculating CTA. But not sure about what and where

    Thank you Ethan,
Let me try to explain this with few dollar amounts:
Let us consider that I have data for 1st month (Jan) of the year 2011,
Net income for Jan. 2011 in LC = 59916152.19
Net income for Jan. 2011 in USD calculated using Average rate is  = $ 9,223,013.14
CTA for the same month is  (net income in LC X spot rate) - net income in USD at average rate =((59916152.19)*(0.154617))-9223013.14 = 41,042.564
    This value is correct.
For the month of Feb 2011:
    Net income for Feb.2011in LC = 60415519.01
Net income for Feb.2011 in USD at average rate (with periodic flag on) = 9,300,112.38 ( I calculated this value manually and it is correct after conversion)
calculated CTA for the same month is (60415519.01*0.154083)-9300112.38 = 8,892.035.
But actually BPC calculated CTA is 18,547.56 (I felt that this may be because I am not using the Flag apply periodic value while calculating CTA and when I flagged that, BPC is giving me a very big difference in CTA)
My balance sheet is exactly off with the difference in CTA.
Hope this helps you to understand my problem.

  • Is there any alternative way to add Comments feature to BPC 10.1 Unified model?

    Dear All,
I understand that BPC 10.1 Unified model does NOT support Comments. Is there any way we can add comments capability? Any help on this would be appreciated.
I believe Comments are an important feature for both - Planning and Consolidation applications. There should be an alternative way to do this.
    Thanks.

  • Error while adding owner property in nw bpc 10.1 unified model

    Hi,
currently we are working on NW BPC 10.1 unified model.
while adding owner property in BW system for work status we are getting below error.
"Characteristic owner is not mapped to any attributes in the SAP HANA model."
Please suggest us where to add this owner property.
    Regards
    Anitha p.

    Hi Gregor,
    Thanks for your reply.
    we applied that note.
We have few doubts while creating work status and BPF.
Our dimension is /ERP/COSTCNTR, so we have added ZPERF and ZREV attributes in ZCOSTCNTR and we have implemented BADI BADI_RSBPCB_SETUSER (enhancement spot RSBPCB_SETUSER).
My doubt is while creating ZCOSTCNTR infoobject do I need to take a copy of /ERP/COSTCNTR? I am getting short dump while doing this.

  • SAP BPC Consolidations vs SEM-BCS

    Hi all,
Has anyone compared the features/functionalities of SAP BPC Consolidation with SEM-BCS consolidation? What are the advantages of BPC Consolidation  over SEM-BCS, and vice-versa? For a brand new implementation, what is the preferred tool?
    Thanks,
    Sujoy Banerjee

    Hi Sujoy,
In general if you are starting out with a new implementation, BPC is the recommended solution for several reasons:
    1) It's a unified solution offering both Consolidations and Planning
    2) It's designed to be owned and managed by business users, not IT
    3) It's integrated with the Enterprise Performance Management for Finance suite, which also includes profitability and strategy management
If however you need support for complex consolidation scenarios, such as legal consolidations, you may want to consider BCS.
You should be able to find several documents comparing the two solutions if you go the Support Center (https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/support) and do a document search on BPC vs. BCS.
    Hope this helps.

  • Custom measure to calculate average in YTD model

    Hi,
I am working in a YTD model which currently has the standard measures: YTD, QTD and periodic. I now need a new custome measure to calculate the average of the YTD values.
So, if on an account I have the following YTD amounts:
    month 1: 10
    month 2: 20
    month 3: 30
I would need the new measure to give me
    month 1: 10
    month 2: (10+20)/2 = 15
    month 3: (10+20+30)/3 = 20
This will also have to work where a month in the middle has a zero value, for example:
    month 1: 10
    month 2: 0
    month 3: 30
I would need the new measure to give me
    month 1: 10
    month 2: (10+0)/2 = 5
    month 3: (10+0+30)/3 = 13.3333333333
Has anyone done this before and would be willing to share the measure formula use with me?
    Thanks,
    Arnold

So I've tried to copy the YTD measure and adjust it
    IIF([%ACCOUNTDIM%].PROPERTIES("ACCTYPE")="EXP" OR [%ACCOUNTDIM%].PROPERTIES("ACCTYPE")="AST", 1 ,-1)*(([MEASURES].[SIGNEDDATA],CLOSINGPERIOD([%TIMEDIM%].[%TIMEBASELEVEL%]))/[%TIMEDIM%].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("MONTHNUM"))
but that doesn't work, whilst I can see the measure I get no values at all.

  • BPC Consolidation without Tranding Partner - Intco

    Hi experts,
I'm doing the blueprint on a customer to implent the BPC Consolidation 7.5 NW, but for my surprise on FI-NewGL the chart of accounts is oppen by the inter-company level, in other words, the system has many accounts for all the intercompany possibilities. So today the customer export the period and do the IUElimination on excel matching a pair of accounts.
My question is, is it possible to build the consolidation on BPC without the trading partner, doing the matching for all the accounts possibilities ?
I suspect this is impossible, one of this reason is the COI, Am I correct ?
    Best Regards

    Ok Clodualdo,
Just to explain better the question, the scenario is this:
On ECC, the chart of accounts was made in order to open all the cases of intercompnay, in other words, we used to see one or two, accounts of Customer Interco x Vendor Interco, here they have 40, for all the cases of elimination matching, they absorbed the concept of tranding partner(interco) to the accounts, example:
    In other Companys,
    Master data:
    Company Account Tranding Partner Ammount
    A 1000 B 100
    B 2000 A -100
    A 1000 C 80
    C 2000 A -80
Note, if you want to use the same account to do the intercompany you can because you have the tranding partner.
    Here,
    Master data:
    Company Account Ammount
    A 1000 100
    B 2000 -100
    A 1001 80
    C 2000 -80
    Elimination Hoped at BPC
    Company Account Ammount
    A 1000 -100
    B 2000 100
    A 1001 -80
    C 2000 80
    Total 0
Note, they use many accounts on the holding, which represents one of their companies, and the other side is always the same account, modifying the company, but the total ammount is the same, they don't eliminate by the High or Less value, is just a reclassification, with a debit(or credit) in the holding versus one debit(or credit) at the controlled.
In this situation is irrelevant the use of the tranding partner.
I appreciate if someone could explain which is the problem to do the elimination on BPC without the tranding partner (interco) ?
If have problem, I was think to carry the data to BPC and do a reclassification marking the tranding partner, anyone see like me ?

  • Issue with Work status in SAP BPC 10.1 Unified Model

    Hi Everyone,
I am are tying to setup work status functionality in SAP BPC 10.1 Unifed Model. But I am not getting any dimesions to select in the Owner dimension dropdown in the BPC Web Admin.
Is there any pre-requiste for setting up work status in Unified Model. Is there any document related to it? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Ramanathan

    Hi Ramanathan,
Had the same problem when I began using 10.1 Embedded.
In BW you need to identify which infobject will be used as the "Owner Dimension"  to control work status, access, etc.
To this infobject you must add an attribute to contain the string (userid in BPC) of the owner.  The name of the infobject can be anything.
I used 0ORGUNIT as the "Owner Dimension" control infobject and added attribue ZBPCOWNR.  I maintained ZBPCOWNR with the userid's.
This is the value to be entered into Owner Property:
HOWEVER, this will not be presented until the Owner Dimension contorlling infobject has a HIERARCHY!  The hierarchy must have at lease one leaf node.
Once I added the attribute, maintained the attribute, and added the hierarchy I was presented with my choices in the dropdown boxes.
    Regards,
    Andy

  • Get bw data into bpc consolidation model

    hi gurus
i m kinda newbie in bpc nw 7.5 for consolidation, now i m enroll in a project where i have to build some models for financial consolidation, in some way i know what objects should it builded, but i have a doubt about data which resides in BW (obviusly cames from ERP), this data is stored in some Z infocubes, but how i can get this data into my model on bpc?? do i have to do it throught DTPs/transformations or there is some BPC functions that implement this?
    best regards
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,
BPC has a pre-delivered Data Manager Package to load the data from the BW infocubes. Please check the below link from help.sap:

  • BPC Consolidation - automatad elimination postings to "elimination entity"

    Dear Experts!
My client is running on BPC 10 NW. I have requirement to post automated eliminations (IC elimination and common stock/investments) to artificial "elimination entity".
Unfortunately "Adjustments and Elimination" business rule dedicated to use with consolidation-type model seems not to support such an option. It always posts elimination into entity which elimination is related to and at the same time to CONSO entity which is the entity where all consolidation numbers are posted.
I also tested "US Eliminations" and although it posts eliminations to "elimination entity" its functionality is very limited and inflexible (only IC calculations, no support for minority interest, no support to different consolidation methods).
It means I really need "Adjustments and Elimination" business rules. Does anyone know how to force "Adjustments and Elimination" business rules to post eliminations in elimination (artificial) entity?
    Regards
    M.

    Hi Marek,
Is it just one entity per rule? If yes, have you tried the force destination members option?

  • BPC as an accounting model in BI

    Hi experts:
I am start hardly working on the BPC solution and I have a I huge question. BPC seems to be based on a accounting model. That means that the account is a crucial dimension. What if I would need to build a planning scenario for a analitic COPA, based on key figure model. In that case, I would have a infocube (loaded from SAP ERP - COPA) defined with no account and 100-120 key figures. Even in this way, I could have some performance problems because sometimes there are a lot of information.
What's the correct model to define in BPC?I guess that  In BPC I should create the model with accounts and would have a account model where I would transform key figures into accounts. Then, we have some doubts:
    1- What about performance problems?
2- What about creating quieries to compare both infocubes?
I can imagine that it is not a solid model having actual data according to a key figure model and plannig according to account model data.
I am not a BPC consultant as I am just starting to working on it. I am a SAP FICO consultant with wide experience on plannig is some knowledge in BPS and IP. Perhaps, I am not really understanding the global concept (I apologize wheather it is like that) but I would be grateful if you give your opinion about that issue.
Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi Sorin, at first glance, no problem to do it with MSTSC:
with TSE 2003 on Windows 2003 SP2, publishing only iexplore.exe, everything seems to work fine and user only sees BPC applications (iexplore, bpc for excel, bpc admin...).
(programs toggle of mstsc must contain this kind of information:
    - start the following program on connection: checked
    - Program path and file name: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE)
    mstsc release is 6.1.

  • BPC 10.1 Unified Model - Is it a must to have BEx query to create an input form/report?

    Dear All,
    Have a cube(Unified) created in BW 7.4.
To create an input form using that cube(unified), Is it mandatory that I need a BEx query for the input form/report?
i.e. To create an input form/report in BPC 10.1 Unified environment using a Unified model, is it a MUST to have a BEx query in place? Or, can I create an input form using 10.1 Unified model without BEx query using 10.1 Unified model?
    Thank you!
    Regards,
    Peri

    Hi Peri,
It doesn't matter what you include in the rows and what in columns or free characteristics: think of it as a sub-cube of the original cube. You are basically listing Dimensions you need in a group of you reports and can add new measures.
In BPC report you'll arrange them on the screen, format, protect, etc.
So, some of it is a repeat (not all tho), but for different purposes.
    Hope this helps,
    Gersh

  • BPC Consolidation Account Dimension - R_ACCT X C_ACCT X O_ACCT X P_ACCT

    Hi everyone,
I search for all the forum and I didn't find any explanation about the use of the "standards" accounts on BPC, we are using BPC 7.0 for NW.
Why BPC NW differentiate the dimensions depending on which application are going to be included?
For example BPC NW has four dimensions for the account C_ACCT(consolidation), R_ACCT(rate), P_ACCT(Planning) and O_ACCT(Ownership).
In our consolidation project we have the planning front too so at the end we will have only a group chart of account for both.
Can we maintain only an account dimension or is there a technically requirement to mantain three or more account dimensions?
One for Legal App, one for Ownership App, one for Intercompany Matching App and one for planning?
So we should have to use same dimension, an example the C_ACCT, on all application or we have to use each dimension in their owing application and change them with same data? That's the question.
Could someone explain what would we do in this scenario? Please don't send documentation because on every one we read are saying to use different, but how is the maintenance for that, explain this.
    Best Regards
    Alexandre

    Hello Alexandre,
You cannot use the same account dimension in all these applications, because the Rate and Ownership applications are designed to store currency conversion and ownership related data, so it would make no sense to add a financial chart of account to these applications. You could however use the same CoA between your Consolidation and your ICMatching, the idea to have two different ones is that you only have Intercompany data from some of your accounts and you may also want to use different roll-ups of your account to perform you IC Matching.
Here are the 4 account dimension:
    - R_ACCT used in the Rate application, contains type of rates (like "END", "AVG)
    - O_ACCT used in the Ownership application, contains method and percentage of consolidations (like "METHOD","PCON","POWN,...)
    - C_ACCT used in the consolidation application, containt the financial Char of Account (Balance Sheet, P&L, ...)
    - P_ACCT used in the planning application, contains account specific for Planning.
You could share the same CoA between your Consolidaiton and Planning, as long as you can defined a common one that fits both purposes
    Marcel
