BD Question. How to tell if subVI input is wired?

Greetings,
Inside a subVI, I'm looking for a method to determine if an input is wired from a higher-level VI, or if I'm working with data that was stored in the input control as default data.
Any ideas?

You can't really tell from within the subVI is the value you got was from the default value of the control or whether it was fed in by a wire. If this is an issue the best thing to do is to set the terminal to require connection so you know it's been wired. That's what I do with the VIs I write when I want to make sure someone wired in a value. Having a default value basically means that by definition you're allowing the VI to be used without wiring to that terminal. It's the same as specifying an argument in Visual Basic as "Optional".

    Hi everyone,
I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to execute a batch input from source code using a differente username so the batch input is executed with different permissions.
For example, I log on with:

, but I'd like to execute a batch input using the rights and permissions of user B.
Thanks in advance and best regards.

  • Newbie question:  How do I set the input for a series of audio recordings to be different, if I only have a 2 channel interface?

I am using a 2 channel interface (Apogee Duet) and I can record a voice and guitar track fine.  My question is how do I record a third audio track after the fact?  It seems when I attempt to record an additional track, say bass for example, Logic treats it as though it is on input 1 or 2 (which hardware wise it is of course) and merges them in a sense.   I don't know how to make it a seperate independant track, despite the fact that it was recorded through an input that I also used to record something else on a diferent track.
Thanks in advance, I very much appreciate any help.

Thanks for the response.  I know it sounds ridiculously basic.  Yes I am creating a new track and selecting it.  The third track appears in the arrange window, but changes to, for example, the third track affect the 1st.  Doesn't matter if it's a 1/4 inch guitar or XLR mic.  Yes I'm listening to the headphone output from the Duet.
I think the fundamental problem is my not understanding something about mono/stereo, or prehaps input and output settings.  I just can't seem to find the appropriate controls/settings.

  • Newbie question: how to tell if account has web services access?

As the title suggests I am new to CRMOD though I have worked with other web Apis.
Right now I have a CRM account but keep getting the "capslock" response in my SOAP call. I think it is because the account is just a regular account and is missing certain rights. How do I tell the admin to grant my account those rights? I'm not sure how to make such a request in words they will understand.

    Hello Daniel,
You need to identify your role. If you go to mysetup you would know your role.
Ask the admin to grant "Enable Web Services Access" prvilege to your role.
    This should be fine.

  • Stupid Question: How to tell MAC which drive to boot from?

This may sound really stupid but coming from the Windows world....how do I get the system to boot from a different drive (if and when I get it setup :-)).
Is their an equivalent <F>Key in the Mac World?
    Thx

I decided to get an external firewire drive (Maxtor) to boot my Macs in the event that I was unable to get one of the Macs to boot. I installed the Tiger OS on the Maxtor using my Powerbook G4 disk and then tried it out with the Option key pressed at startup and it booted from the Maxtor and worked great on the Powerbook. I then (using the firewire cable again) attached it to my Powermac G5 that I bought about a year ago (Dual processor, 2.3 Ghz.) and it also booted from the Maxtor just fine.
I then hooked it up to my newest Mac the exact same way (Powermac G5, Dual Core, 2.3 Ghz) and got a kernel panic. Why would that be?

  • Old D1000 question - how to tell 8-slot vs 12-slot, remotely

We have a couple of D1000s in
a remote location that we are
    interested in salvaging.
Is there a way to tell if the D1000s
are 8-slot or 12-slot units just
by looking at the outside? The field handbook I have shows the 8 and 12 slot backplanes appearing identical but having different part numbers - the 8-slot picture shows 12 connectors, so I assume the extra connectors are just not wired in the 8-slot backplane.
However, since the 12-slot backplane is supposed to only accept 1-inch disks, maybe there are, indeed only 8 slots in one version and 12 in the other.
    Unfortunately the units only have
8 and 6 disks installed, respectively.
I suppose the best way is to just take disks out of one and stuff them in the other and see what happens.
    TIA -w

there are eight lights (or clear plastic spots) that run along the top of the 8 bay unit... 12 on the 12 bay unit... it is that simple.... not on the door, above it.
remotely, I doubt you will be able to tell... yes, 1" drives will work just fine in the 8 bay unit... the 8 bay unit has a different backplane than the 12 bay unit.... just not unwired.
the link shows the 12 bay unit "exploded"

  • How do tell if you are on wired vs wifi

Hi, I have a mac mini 2010. I have it wired into an Airport extreme and I also have the  WiFi on. How do you know for sure if you are using one vs the other? Meaning, I'd like to get the speed from the direct connection when browing the web at my desk. Should I turn off the Wifi?
    Thanks.

Turning off the Wi-Fi on your computer will insure that the Ethernet connection is active.
Unless you have changed some settings on your Mac, if both Ethernet and Wi-Fi are "on", the Mac will automatically default to the Ethernet connection over wireless.
To see if your Mac is setup to do this.....
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Network
Click the small gear icon at the bottom of the connection list
    Select Set Service Order
If Ethernet is at the top of the connection order list, then your Mac will default to Ethernet whenever you connect an Ethernet cable to it....even if the wireless is on at the time.
Still, it makes sense to turn off the wireless on the Mac if you don't need it.

i forgot my answer of my security questions ,could u tell me how to reset it?

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Questions' or 'iTunes Store account security' (it appears to vary by country) and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox).

  • Newtab question: How do I ''input'' the nine (yes 3X3) boxes to be my specific permanent sites exactly the same each time I hit the newtab+?

Newtab question: How do I ''input'' the nine (yes 3X3) boxes to be my specific permanent sites exactly the same each time I hit the newtab+? I know that I can hit the 'save' button but I want it to be MY selection before the save. Evert time I hit the newtab it seems to use my history to keep moving them up the line.
I have used google.com/ig as my home for years. In November the sites that are my personal choices will be gone as Google has decided to eliminate "IG"!
For example the NYTimes (with about 5-6 daily lead articles) appear in my upper left of the personalized home site. I would at least like to see that summary. At least with Newtab I can save it.
Is there a program step in FF that I can achieve my results and put nine sites into it and click them to be permanent as well as being able to edit them in the future?

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag an item to a different slot to pin it to that position or you can remove a website by clicking the close X to block that URL.
You can drag a bookmark or history item and drop them in a slot on the about:newtab page to pin them and have your own favorites sites showing.
Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in the browser.newtabpage.pinned (default = [null]) and browser.newtabpage.blocked prefs that you can check/modify on the about:config page.

  • Beginner Question: How to put 5 V on an output?

    Hi everybody,
I am an absolute beginner here, a Biology student that has to do electronics in Labview now...
I want to do as much of this myself as possible, but need truly beginners hints, hoping to be clever enough to put it together myself with your information.
I need to control some outputs, and monitor some inputs. I am focusing on the outputs at the moment.
    Questions:
How do I make a block in my block diagram that can put a variable voltage on an output? I need two controls, one that puts a voltage on an output of 0 to 10 V continuously, the other puts a voltage on an output of 0 to 5 V in increments of 0.1 V
Any hints will be highly appreciated. I have Labview 6 to work with. Pointers like 'look at p
age XX of the manual' will do, but descriptions here, or through my mail... anything will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Well, for me and my past gigs this has been a very common situation. When
I worked for telecom we would have to develop apps for instruments that we
wouldn't receive for six months. Luckily we had the basic concept of how
they were supposed to run and this was adequate for development. It
sounds like you're in a similar situation.

Lemme see if I understand you from this post and your first one. You
would like to buid a user interface that includes the following:
    1) A boolean control that gives these two options:
    a) output a continuous voltage in the range of 0-10 volts b) output a
ramping voltage starting at 0 (or 0.1) volts and ending at
5 volts using 0.1 volt increments with a dwell time of x mseconds
    2) A boolean to stop the application
(perhaps another one to pause it)
    3) Several numeric controls:
    a) numeric control for the output voltage b) numeric control for the
dwell time (optional) c) numeric control for the voltage increments
    (optional) for if the
user wants to use values other than 0.1 volts
    4) An indicator that shows what the measured output voltage is. This is
good for verifying your output signal. A chart would be nice.
This is a top down approach which is helpful for laying out the
application's user interface. The next thing you want to do is build some
subVIs to simulate your voltage signals. Once you get some hardware you
can simply replace these simulation subVIs with the real ones that
    actually communicate the hardware.
I'm not sure if your measuring the output voltage too. I kinda just
assumed this but that would require another subVI. I won't tell you how
to build the subVIs (I can't take all the fun out this) but I hope I've
pointed you in the right direction.
    Merry x-mas!
    -Kevin
PS: learn how to play with control references. they're very convenient
when you need to update the front panel indicators with data from a subVI
sitting in its own continuous loop. it avoids global variable abuse.

  • How to tell if REQ1 is set active high

Hi I am using the 6533 PCI-DIO-32HS card in a PC with traditional DAQ, looking at an existing design.  I could not find how to tell if REQ1 is set active high or low, guessing it would be set up in the DIO confg vi.

thanks for the additional information, yes will have to wait for the external hardware.  I did have a general question about the 6533 data and control line outputs using traditional DAC.  I think for this design it is set up as a pattern IO transfer using internal REQ and an internal clock set up as a VI input, (DIO START).  Anyhow I am monitoring the card outputs with a logic analyzer and it looks like an 8 element array (of 8 bit integers) is being used for the data input (to the DIO WRITE VI) with the first 4 elements being written out on DIOA0-A7, DIOB0-B7, DIOC0-C7, and DIOD0-D7 followed by the last 4 elements also written out to DIOA0-A7, DIOB0-B7, DIOC0-C7, and DIOD0-D7.  Anyhow it looks like the clock input to the (DIO Start VI) controls the pulse width of the data.  It looks like REQ1 goes high approximately 78 microseconds before the first 32 bits are written out followed by 5 microseconds of data (with the clock set at 200k), finally followed by the second data group (5 microseconds of data).  It then looks like REQ1 stays high for 2-4 ms after the second group of 32 bits is written out before going low.   Anyhow if you are trying to clock this data into a storage device I would expect to see rising clock edges when both the first and second group of data appear on DIOA0-A7..DIOD0-D7.  I monitored all the other control lines pclk1,2 ack1 and did not see signal levels other than 0, again I do not have the DIO card connected to anything except a logic analyzer.  Would you know if it is typical to use REQ1 as a clock input to a storage device or if this can be done?

  • How to link an analog input to a controller implemented in PC(Labview) then feedback to the external system?

Atten : Jeff or anyone =)
I had discretized my controller onto labview. And would like to feed the analog input from external into the PC(that the controller is implemented in). I do hv a DAQ card. The problem is I do not know how to link the analog input -> ADC -> controller -> DAC -> system. And i really believe labview hv functions to do it. But really confuse how should i do it. Could anyone pls advise me. Thanks

    Darren,
You have answered my question. I was wondering whether you were doing single point (non-buffered) analog input, or multipoint (buffered) acquisition. Seems you are doing the latter.
I'll offer answers to both, however, and I'll start with single point. If you have a single point of data that you'd like to output on a DAC, use the Functions->Data Acquisition->Analog Output->AO Update Channel. You can wire your data right into this VI, and it will update the channel.
If you have an array of data that you'd like to send out on the DAC, you can use the Functions->Data Acquisition->Analog Output->AO Generate Waveform. This VI is similar to the former, but you tell it the DAC you want to update, the update rate (samples per sec
ond), and the array of samples you want it to update with.
In LV5.X, the input is an array of samples; in LV6i, it's an array of waveforms. Therefore, you'll have to change your array to a waveform. Do this by selecting the Functions->Waveform->Build Waveform VI. Stretch the output down, and another input will show up (dt). Wire your array to the squiggly line input. Wire a 0 to the t0, and 1/scan rate into dt. Then wire this output to the AO Generate Waveform VI.
    Hope this helps.
