Before report triggers in crystal

Post Author: vdm
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hi,
I need to develop a report the data for which cannot be easily selected from tables using a sql statement. It needs to first call a stored procedure which would populate some temp tables and crystal would then report from these temp tables.I am from Oracle reports background which has a before report trigger in which you could put any of this pre-processing but not sure if crystal (CR XI) has the equivalent of that.what I did try with crystal was this :- 1. On my main report I have this query - select * from temp......2.I have put a sub-report in my Report Header section. This sub-report calls a sql server stored procedure which populates the temp table. But what I am finding is that before the sub-report is called crystal has already executed the select statement -which is still empty at this stage.Question:1.What I am trying to do is just not possible to do in crystal ?2. Or is there a way that I can stop crystal from executing the main select statement until the sub-report has been called ?thanks in advanceVishal

Why not just use a single Command object as your datasource, and have it contain the following sql:
exec sp_your_stored_procedure
--that should have generated your temp_table
select * from your_temp_table
drop table your_temp_table --or not, depending on your preference...

  • Using Before report Trigger with Sql Server

i have used packages in oracle using before report triggers in bi publisher 11g is it possible to do in the same way with sql server ?? don't know much about sql server . any link or documents

    Hi T.holt,
Personally, I don’t believe SQL 2008 R2 with ADMT 3.2 is supported.  From the guidelines of install the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT), ADMT v3.2 requires a preconfigured instance of SQL Server for its underlying data store. We
should use SQL Server Express and install ADMT v3.2 on a member server. ADMT installation enforces the following service pack requirements:
    • SQL Server 2005 Express must be installed with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later.
    • SQL Server 2008 Express must be installed with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later.
If you use full versions of SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008. In this case, you need to install and run the ADMT console on a remote computer, and you can run multiple ADMT consoles on different remote computers. If
you use a full version of SQL Server, ADMT installation does not enforce any service pack requirements.
For more information about installing ADMT in the target domain, you can review the following article.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc974370(v=ws.10).aspx

  • Cannot Extract Embedded Font in PDF Report Generated Using Crystal Reports XI

The issue is that sometimes the PDF reports generated by Crystal Report XI are not showing the fonts properly. Arial font is used in the Crystal report template(.rpt file) for field label and data elements. When the report is opened in Adobe Reader, it displays the message - "Cannot extract the embedded font 'AAAAAA+ArialBold'. some characters may not display or print correctly." Other PDF Readers like Foxit show blank spaces instead. I tried to change the font to Courier New, Times New Roman etc but still getting the same message.
The issue is consistent when the application is deployed in Windows server. When deployed in Unix server the issue happens very occasionally. The font files are available and installed in the UNIX box.
Please tell me why this error message is shown and also tell me how to get it fixed.

    Hi Scot
Just replied to your email re. conf call.
    In the meantime.
    1st question.
Some of our developers are creating the reports under crystal 2008, while some are 2011.
Could this be a problem, when they are run by the SDK?
Should we upgrade all our developers to crystal 2011?
The version of CR a report is created in should not matter at all. I am 100% certain this is not the issue.
    2nd question
When the report is run, to create the pdf... why would it actually embed the font on the pdf?
if they weren't embedded.. wouldn't it just pull up the proper font, if the user's pc had that font on their
        pc?
if it does the common fonts aren't embedded, we would just have to worry about the things like
        barcode 3 of 9
I can not answer this as that essentially is the way the product is designed. It may look like a limitation, but there are no work-arounds and I would not consider this to be a bug. Perhaps an enhancement, but a pretty faint hope there. And even if, enhancements take very, very low priority and take long, long time before implementation.
    3rd question
Would the fonts, just need to be installed on the server?   we've seen some indication, that they
also need to be in a java sub-directory
The fonts must be on the server as that is where the report engine does it's work, then the report is streamed to the user's browser. E.g.; there is no work done on the browser. Also, the process must have rights to access the fonts.
One last point. You mention deployment to Linux. Linux is not supported. Please see: SAP Crystal Reports, Developer Version for Microsoft Visual Studio - Supported Platforms
I suspect this is more an issue with CR not working with the framework for Linux.

  • Difference between After parameter Form Trigger and before Report Trigger

    hi,
Can some one tell me difference between After parameter form Trigger and Before parameter trigger.
Why do we need both these trigger , why can't we use any one of them because after parameter trigger will obviously fire before report trigger and similarly before report trigger will fire after parameter form.
    Thanks
    Ram

    Hi,
    i will make it clear..!
Actually, we have four type of triggers in reports..!
Before Parameter -- fires before params are suppied to the calling report..
After Parameter -- fires after params are suppied to the calling report..
Before Report -- fires before report is generated..
After Report. -- fires after report is generated..
Before Report and After Report triggers are used for formatting the report design..
like u can specify a report to be displayed based on a condition in the Before
Report trigger and u can specify some backend updations in the after report trigger
which fires after report is generated..

  • Migration from Crystal Reports 2008 to Crystal reports Enterprise(BOE 4.0)

    Dear all ,
I m currently doing a project on Crystal reports 2008 where datasource is mostly SAP BW queries.  Our customer will have BOE 4.0 in coming months .  I have heard that in BOE 4.0 Crystal reports for Enterprise will be a better option for BW datasources. Is that true? So here comes my question , Is  it possible to migrate reports based on Crsytal reports 2008 to Crystal reports for Enterpise 4.0  afterwards. What will be best option for us , shall we build further reports on Crystal reports 2008 or Crystal reports 2011 or should wait until we have BOE 4.0 ?
    Thanks
    Best regards
    Atul

    Hi,
We are going through the migration process from 2008 to Enterprise version. The only issue we are facing is the mapping of the Hierarchy nodeid and parentid. Other than that we were able to migrate most of the pieces from the report.
Here is the overview of migration process:
    1. When you run the upgrade manager to migrate objects from BOE 3.1 to 4.0 it will automatically upgrade it to CR 2011 version.
    2. You then have option to migrate it manually by opening the report in Enterprise version.
    3. If you open the report in Enterprise version it will prompt you to connect to common semantic layer wizard.
    4. Before that you have to have your datasource ready for that report depends on how your CR 2008 is connected. (can be BEx query or Relational Universe)
    5. If its BEx query you have to maintain the connection in CMC under OLAP connection to your BW system.
    6. Next thing is to map the Source fields to Target fields (BEx query or Relation Universe via IDT) and your report will be converted to Enterprise version.
    7. You might have to resolve if there are any errors.
Let me know if you have any particular questions if i can help.
    Thanks.

  • Report triggers

    Hello,
I would like to create a trigger on "before report" to create several views. I have tried putting in some create view code into the pl/sql editor but keep getting errors.
Can somebody give me a quick example of what the code should look like within the code block.
    function BeforePForm return boolean is
    begin
    return (TRUE);
    end;
    Thanks.

    Hi Jay,
You should be able to put any valid PL/SQL code in the report triggers. Pl check the pre-requisites (ike privileges needed) and the examples of creating materialized views here:

  • Upgrade from Crystal report 8 to Crystal report 2013

    Dear all,
Need some information pertaining to upgrade of Crystal report 8 to Crystal report 2013 (to be invoked from thick client .NET applications)
Is it possible to directly upgrade from 8 to 2013 ? Or should there be a move to intermediate version before going to 2013 ?
How is the upgrade generally done ? (do we just open the report and save in new version, or do they have any upgrade wizard)
What are the typical issues we may face while going from lower version to higher version (I understand queries may break, format and layout may change.  Are there any other issues specific to upgradation.
    Regards,
    Jain

    Hi Jain,
Moved your post to .NET Forums.
Since CR 8.0 is 12 or more years old there is no "upgrade path" now. The Database drivers have all changed and the Parameter API's have also.
Best way is to get CR 2011 and manually open each and every report and update the DB connection using the Set Table Location, this requires updating the DB Client to current versions also.
Note there are some old legacy DB sources no longer available so that can be a problem also.
CR 8 is not Side By Side compatible with any other version so make sure it's not installed on the same PC. It will never work and cause all sorts of problems for you.
Basic report layout stayed the same but Printing has changed a lot also so search here, lots of post on the subject.
For more help need to know your data source also?
And check the Overview Tab, on the left side, lots of resources and samples to get you started.
Also, first warning is set your project to X86 and the full Framework, do not use the Client version.
And the SDK is no longer shipped with CR Designer install, VS installer and redist packages are all available from here:

  • Report works in Crystal Reports, but not when scheduled in Crystal Server

    Hi,
I have a pretty simple report designed in Crystal Reports 2008. Basically it shows a list of call notes (memo field) from customer activities in our CRM system. The report works fine in Crystal reports, but when run or scheduled in Crystal Server 2008 the output is always blank. Furthermore, the page format etc. is "lost" in crystal server, so that the output is PDF of a quadratic blank sheet (not my standard A4 format)... Exporting to other formats - excel, Word etc. all gives the same result.
I have tried to strip out various formulas, formatting etc from the report, but nothing helps. Which leads me to thinking that the real problem is that the report contains a memo field? Anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Claus,
I've had issues between what Crystal does and what the Report Server does.  To resolve this, we found out Crystal Reports 2008 latest service pack has some things that will fix Server 2008 and they aren't in the latest Server update.
We updated Crystal Reports 2008 on our machines.  Installed the latest update for Crystal Server and then installed Crystal 2008 on the Report Server and installed the Crystal Reports 2008 update.  A lot of our compatibility issues went away after that.
    Good luck,

  • Views on CF Report Builder and Crystal Report

    Dear all,
I would like to get your opinions on CF Report Builder and
    Crystal Report.
As we all know, CF Report Builder is a new reporting tool.
But I find it very difficult to design a complex report maybe due
to limitation in its functionalities. Sometimes the tool shutdowns
by itself without any warning and reason. But the output is nicely
presented on a flash paper / pdf and it can be run on non-MS
    platforms.
On the other hand, Crystal Report is a more matured product
but runs only on MS platform. It is very easy to use and very
powerful. I have been using it for almost 10 years. But the output
is not nicely presented on the web browser unless if we purchase
Crystal Report Enterprise to generate the report which is very
    costly.
Can you all share your views? I need to make decision which
tool(s) to use. Really appreciate it.
    Cheers,
    Keiko

    Hi Keiko,
Yes, CF Report builder is new and initially there was few
issues with this. But I guess now it's good after hotfixes.
Well, I am using CF Report Builder. It's good for me. You can
also design and develop complex reports, that depends upon the
query you are writing. You can also add subreports to your main
    reports.
Mainly CF Report is platform independent and you can also
generate reports in PDF, EXCEL and FlashPaper.
Crystal Report is no doubt is very good, and it's there for
long years. I agree you can create complex reports with this, but
you also can do the same in CF also. You are using this for last 10
years, so I guess you should try something new and that is CF
Report Builder and you can judge then.
I am sure you will have fun with CF.
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to programmatically replace a Sub Report in a crystal report

We create crystal reports via the crystal report designer (not in any IDE) , and attach the reports directly to the database via stored procedures. Each report contains a page header and a page footer with patient demographic data. We distribute these reports to our customers and they may edit the templates and alter the page header and page footers specific to their needs.
We are looking at using sub reports to build a "model" page header and page footer that would be inserted into each template at design time. What we would like to do is allow the customers to create their own sup reports to contain their custom page header / page footer and then programmatically replace the " model" sub reports with the custom sub reports. Please note that these sub reports would not contain any data access and would not be linked to the main report, rather the main report would assign the data that is displayed in the page header/page footer data to shared variables,  and the sub reports would use the shared variables as their data source to display the data.
Is it possible to programmatically replace 1 sub report with another ? If so are there any code snippets to review -

Yes it is. Submit your post to which ever SDK you are using into the Developer forums. But search the posts first and look in our samples. This is relatively easy to do.
    Thank you

    Hi,
without checked the whole document .... you've defined all paramaters as datataype charecter instead of character.

  • How to open the crystal reports 2008 in CRYSTAL REPORTS ENTERPRISE 4.0

    Hi All,
Can you please let me know how can migrated the crystal reports from BO XI 3.1 to SAP BO 4.1 and after migrate how to open the crystal reports 2008 in CRYSTAL REPORTS ENTERPRISE 4.0.
can you please help on this and if document please share.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

Use the upgrade management tool to move from 3.1 reports to BO 4.1. After migration, open the report in crystal enterprise 4.0, you will get a message saying that the report will be converted to latest version, will not be able to view from older version after converting. (Similar words- not sure exact words).

  • Difference between AFTER PARAMETER FORM and BEFORE REPORT in Reports 6i

    Hi Aii,
What is the difference between AFTER PARAMETER FORM and BEFORE REPORT in Reports 6i.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Balu

    Hi Balu.,
As per my findings the After Parameter is fired after the Parameters are given to the report and Before Report fires when the queries are parsed and data is fetched.

  • Total No of pages different in report printed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8)

Currently in our application, we are using Crystal Report XI R2 for generating the reports. We are in the process of upgrading the Crystal Report to SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). I updated that on my machine and all the reports work fine. I didn't have to modify any of the reports.
However when comparing the reports, we found that there are few reports on which the total no. of pages differ from the report displayed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). Comparing the reports, it looks all the data that were fit on one page earlier with version XI R2 doesn't fit on the same page with version 13.8, thereby increasing the page counts.
The fonts, page margins everything set on report itself. Nothing being set in the code.
Both the application is using the same report that is pulling the data from the same database. Our application is a web application.
Any suggestion, why this is happening.
    Thanks.
    Sanjay

I am not sure what is being compared here?
    CRXI R2 designer to CRVS?
CR XI R2 in some version of .NET to CRVS?
CR XI R2 using RDC SDK to CRVS?
Also, is this happening on your development computer or after you deploy?
If you compare the the "Page setup" options dialog between reports that work and those that do not work, do you see any difference?
Is this a web or a win app?
Are you seeing the same issue when viewing and exporting - say export to PDF?
What is the printer driver used and it's version?
