Beginer's questions

Hello
I started building sites lately, and I have some questions.
I'd be thankfull to get answers
-When I place a flash button I created, can it have
transparent background? I tried to do it 'macromedia flash 8' and
couldn't find an option to create a button\image without background
-how can I attach a image as a background, in a way which
when I scroll down, the background will stay fixed?
-can I make my navigation bar (vertical one) stay at top of
the screen when I scroll down?
Thank you

Question 1
You can use the WMode in the flash parameters to set flash
backgrounds to
transparent however it is not 100% cross browser compatible.
Question 2
You define the background image to the page in ths CSS
attributes of the
body tag, and then you can set the tile attributes so that it
does not
repeat.
Question 3
This can be done with a persistant layer. Have a look on the
Adobe exchange
as I am sure that there is an extension there for it

  • A beginer's question

why I could run netbean when I didn't install jvm?Is netbean written by java?
when I had write a java programme . how did others whose computer didn't have jvm run the programme.thank you

Do you mean you would like to compile and run java
    programs without netbeans ?
You can download a separate JDK on this site.
    Set up the environment.
    Run your HelloWorld.
Details can be found in the tutorial.
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/
I'm sorry you get a wrong idea .my quesiton is when i
have written a java programme .anyone who want to use
it must install jvm in his computer .but I can run
netbean in my computer when I didn't install jvm.so
my question is how to implement the same function in
my programme as netbean .thank you.you don't really want to do that, trust me. NetBeans does it for convenience, and it's appropriate as both it and the JDK are part of the same bundle. but imagine if everyone wrote their software like that: people would end up installing loads of copies of the JRE, over and over again. pointless. better to provide instructions to the effect that your software needs a JRE installed to run, and provide some instructions on installing a JRE if needed. I've worked on a project in the past where we installed a JRE on behalf of the customer, but we had a lot of discussion before going ahead with it, and it was a world of pain to do, anyway. in short, don't bother

  • Oops; shd have posted here to begin with: question about canon pixma 850

can my macbook and my printer be connected via ethernet, rather than via usb? if so, what am i doing wrong? i have the computer and the printer hooked up and nothing's happening. i'm not an esp. sophisticated computer user, so i need pretty basic instructions.
    powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.5.5)

    Hello Nancy,
There is three major steps required for using the MX850 as a network printer from your Mac.
First of all, there is two pieces of software you will need to install on the Mac, the Canon driver v7.1.1 and the IJ Network Tool v2.6.5. These should have been included with the printer but can also be downloaded from a Canon web site.
With the driver and the tool installed, the second step is to set the network address settings in the printer so that the Mac can communicate with it. This has to be performed with the printer connected via USB to the Mac.
With the printer driver installed and connected via USB, the printer should be listed in the Printers list of System Preferences > Print & Fax. If it is shown, click it once to select it and then click the Open Print Queue button. From the MX850 printer queue you can click the Utility icon. This will open another utility showing the MX850 connected via USB. Select the MX850 and click the Network Settings tab. The new window will guide you through setting the network address for the MX850.
This is where you will need to know a few details about your network. If the printer is connecting to a hub or router, and this device can supply IP addresses to connected devices, such as your Mac, then you can set the MX850 to DHCP and the network device will allocate an address for the printer.
If you have no hub or router and want to connect the Mac directly to the printer via Ethernet, then you will have to manually set an IP address and subnet mask in the Mac and so the same in the MX850. Rather than spend too much time explaining this now, if this is how you want to connect the MX850 to the Mac then please reply stating so.
With the IP address settings configured in the MX850, the last step is to add the network printer. You can close the Canon utility, turn off the printer and disconnect the USB cable. Now connect the Ethernet cable and turn the printer back on. Give it a minute or two to acquire its network settings and then open Print & Fax on the Mac. Now you need to Add another printer queue, this time for the networked MX850. Click + to add, and then select More Printers then Canon IJ Network from the top menu. The new window that appears should display the MX850 with a series of numbers and letters in brackets. Select this in the list and click Add. This will add the printer to your printers list. Now you can try printing to the MX850, making sure you select the network queue (the one with the numbers and letters in brackets) and not the USB queue, which probably just shows MX850.
Hope this basic enough for you.

  • Beginning Design question - Forms 10g

This is the first form I have been asked to develop. I am designing a forms 10G application. It is to be a read only interface to multiple history tables in a 10 R2 database. I want to be able to have the user select a year and then populate the form with that year's data. Will I have to create a form for each year? or is there a way to pass the year as a parameter and then select a datablock built from each table and associate that datablock with just 1 form. OR, if that is a lousy design, what is the best approach?

    Hi,
You just need one form, but some datablocks (maybe).
If you have a database table for each 'year' then you need a datablock for each year.
Create a stacked canvas for each datablock.
    To change beetwen blocks use:
go_block('block_name');If you have just one table then you can use set_block_property
    set_block_property('block_name', default_where, 'where clause');
    Hope it helps!

  • Beginer's Question

I sometimes get multilple instances of an image file listed
in the assets panel. The files list correctly in the file panel.
Neither "refresh site list" nor "reconstruct site list" nor
quitting and restarting the app makes them go away. Not a fatal
problem, of course, but anoying on a portfolio site that has alot
of images. What is happening? How can I make them go away?

Go through the Streams Replication Admistration Guide. You can find all conflict resolution techniques. Are you inserting data into trade_id using sequence?. If so, use even numbers on one database and odd numbers on other database. There will not be any conflicts that time.

  • SA 540 General VPN Question

Going to put down the trusty old PIX 506e and considering replacing it with a SA540. Are there any know VPN configuration 'gotchas' on the SA540 when the IPS assigned WAN address is static pppoe?

Hi Bob, Trust me on this one...there is no way on this earth you're ever going to see these SA540's even get within a whisper of touching the levels on a 5510 with web VPN,  even if they're were not the buggy POS's that they are.
I'm going through the same pains...been on many a webinar with the SEs from Cisco talking about how great these SA540s are....but they obviously have to real experience with them. If I were you (and I might as well be,  I've been in the exact same boat for a couple of months with some of my clients) I would STRONGLY advise you do not try and use the 540 as a replacement for an ASA....you and you're client will be extremely pissed with the results. If your clients needs are large enough to require a 5510 nothing in the SBM space would be an adiquate substitue anyway.
As a SBM Select reseller of many years I cannot say how DEEPLY disappointed I am in Cisco right now.  Between having firewalls on back order for three months, lack of taking ownership of the many problems, and just plain lying about this product, I'm beginning to question how much longer I can recommend them to my client base.
Right now the best (Cisco based) option I could recommend is to replace the units with Cisco IOS routers for your web VPN options.  Keep in mind, Cisco has recently changed to a licensing model for WebVPN even on the IOS routers...so you'll want to check out that SKU for your quotes

  • Creating a new partition for Windows keeps failing

    Hello there,
I had a partition (50GB) with Windows XP installed on it for a long time. Finally, I decided to buy Windows Vista. I want to install it but after restoring my Macintosh HD into one, I can not create other partitions. I inserted the Mac OS X 1 DVD and am trying to use Disk Utility from there but it says FAILED: NOT ENOUGH SPACE. How? After creating the partition, I'll have around 45GB of free space for the Macintosh partition. This is really awkward and I don't want to format (erase) my Macintosh HD because I don't want to lose the data. Also, my external is filled and I can't buy a new one at the moment to use for backup.
Does anyone have a solution for this? It really is ******* me off. In addition to that, my optical drive failed on me and I had it replaced for a lot of money in Apple in Egypt, and due to customs and stuff, it was way overpriced. Also, the optical drive failed for absolutely NO reason. I always took care of it and used original (expensive) dvd cleaners every couple of months. I am beginning to question my purchasing decision, I am thinking I should have bought a normal Windows notebook like an Alienware as this is my first Macintosh experience ever.
Thank you very much for your time guys.

I have managed to get it working after reducing the size of the Boot Camp partition. Now it is a 52GB partition but I still don't understand why it wouldn't let me create a bigger one since the Macintosh one would still have had enough space (40gb of free space isn't too bad). If someone could explain, thank you.

  • IMAP account "standard folders"

I've been following another Mail thread about IMAP folders that highlights my own confusion about the expected behavior while creating & maintaining an IMAP account.
Background: I created an AOL IMAP account in Mail, using the settings I found online for account creation. (There was no indication of a need for, nor have I entered, anything in the IMAP Path Prefix field.) This created an "AOL IMAP" inbox (in the inbox parent) & an "AOL IMAP" account group mailbox with (@) icon, containing four subfolders named as follows: Sent Items, Saved, Spam, & VOICEMAIL. There were no other mailboxes created by creating this account (no "AOL IMAP" mailbox in Mail's "Sent" parent or in its "Drafts" one.)
It is my understanding that the four subfolders already exist on AOL's servers for any AOL subscriber. They are all visible using AOL's webmail interface, although the AOL client software for OS X (unlike the Windows one) allows direct access only to Sent Items, which it labels "Sent Mail." (There is an "Old Mail" tab, but it is in effect only recently read "inbox" mail, & has nothing to do with "Saved Mail," which the AOL client doesn't support.)
All four of these subfolders are supported by Mail.app. However, since all are created as subfolders in the 'group account' I gather from the referenced & other Discussions topics, none are not recognized as what is sometimes referred to as "standard folders" ... which I take to mean a set of mailbox names Mail knows to use for a particular purpose.
So, here is question #1: is this right? Does Mail come with a set of names it expects IMAP servers to use for sent mail, deleted mail (a.k.a Trash), junk mail, etc? Alternately, is there a standard for such things, or does Apple (for example) just include the .Mac mailbox names & expect the user to make any changes for other IMAP conventions?
I'm aware of the "Use This Mailbox For" function in Mail. However, this appears to be a one shot, one way deal: once you select one of the use options for a mailbox in an account, you cannot undo the choice. (IOW, there is no "none" choice.)
This leads to question #2: Is here a simple way to undo this?
AOL, possibly among others, has its own way of handling things like Spam & deleted items, so there isn't necessarily a direct correspondence with Mail's Junk & Trash mailboxes. Thus, I have no idea if Mail's 'use for' function would cause any problems if applied to them.
Question #3: Does anyone have any insights regarding this?
I would like to have a Mail trash mailbox that corresponds to AOL's version (which is a sort of grace period holding tank similar to Trash, except that AOL controls how long items stay in it before deletion from its servers). problem is, there is nothing like that that appears in Mail, either under the group account or elsewhere.
Question #4: Is there any way to create such a folder, or should one have been created in Mail's main Trash mailbox for this account by the app itself?
I just recently used the 'use for' function to tell Mail to use the AOL "Sent Items" originally in the AOL group account for mail sent from that account. This resulted in the mailbox being moved into Mail's main "Sent" mailbox & renamed "AOL IMAP." So far, so good, but leads to
Question #5: Is this what is supposed to happen?

(There was no indication of a need for, nor have
I entered, anything in the IMAP Path Prefix field.)
This is correct. You don't need anything to be put there.
This created an "AOL IMAP" inbox (in the inbox parent)
& an "AOL IMAP" account group mailbox with (@) icon,
    This is expected behavior.
It is my understanding that the four subfolders
already exist on AOL's servers for any AOL subscriber.
That's probably the case. Mail certainly didn't create them by itself.
All four of these subfolders are supported by Mail.app.
Not sure what you mean here.
However, since all are created as subfolders in the 'group
account' I gather from the referenced & other Discussions
topics, none are not recognized as what is sometimes referred
to as "standard folders" ... which I take to mean a set of
mailbox names Mail knows to use for a particular purpose.
Correct. The fact that they appear in the account group means Mail isn't using them for any predefined meaning. And the reason is that they don't have the same name that Mail uses for them by default.
So, here is question #1: is this right?
    Yes.
Does Mail come with a set of names it expects IMAP servers to use
I don't think Mail expects anything. It just creates the folders it uses by default if they aren't already there, and ignores the rest.
is there a standard for such things,
There is no standard, each server can do whatever it wants.
or does Apple (for example) just include the .Mac mailbox names &
expect the user to make any changes for other IMAP conventions?
Yes. And these names predate .Mac, actually. The same names are used by the *.mbox folders within any POP account folder in ~/Library/Mail/.
I'm aware of the "Use This Mailbox For" function in
Mail. However, this appears to be a one shot, one way
deal: once you select one of the use options for a
mailbox in an account, you cannot undo the choice.
(IOW, there is no "none" choice.)
This leads to question #2: Is here a simple way to undo this?
There has always to be a mailbox for each purpose (even if it has not been created yet), either stored locally or on the server. You cannot de-assign a folder for a standard behavior without telling Mail which other folder should be used instead -- by doing Use This Mailbox For on another mailbox or by telling Mail to not store those messages on the server, for example.
AOL, possibly among others, has its own way of handling
things like Spam & deleted items, so there isn't
necessarily a direct correspondence with Mail's Junk &
Trash mailboxes. Thus, I have no idea if Mail's 'use for'
function would cause any problems if applied to them.
    Neither do I. Try it.
Question #3: Does anyone have any insights regarding this?
I don't know much about AOL myself. According to this article:
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html
it seems that you must uncheck the Store messages on the server options (except for Trash), in order to be able to use AOL with Mail, but the problem could very well be just that AOL doesn't allow Mail to create new folders on the server, yet you can still tell Mail to use the ones created by AOL.
I would like to have a Mail trash mailbox that
corresponds to AOL's version (which is a sort of
grace period holding tank similar to Trash, except
that AOL controls how long items stay in it before
deletion from its servers). problem is, there is
nothing like that that appears in Mail, either under
    the group account or elsewhere.
I have the feeling that Mail is already doing what you want, and the reason you cannot see that folder is because the name used by AOL is the same as the one used for Mail (Deleted Messages), and thus, Mail has already been using that folder for that purpose since the beginning.
Question #4: Is there any way to create such a
folder, or should one have been created in Mail's
main Trash mailbox for this account by the app itself?
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-AOLaccount/. Do you see a Deleted Messages.imapmbox folder there? If yes, and that folder does not appear in the account group in Mail, then Mail is already doing what you want.
I just recently used the 'use for' function to tell
Mail to use the AOL "Sent Items" originally in the
AOL group account for mail sent from that account. This
resulted in the mailbox being moved into Mail's main "Sent"
mailbox & renamed "AOL IMAP." So far, so good, but leads to
Question #5: Is this what is supposed to happen?
    Yes.
Regarding my #5 issue, I just noticed a new local
folder in Mail I assume was a result of choosing to
use "Sent Items" in the AOL IMAP account mailbox.
This mailbox is named (not surprisingly) "Sent
Messages (AOL IMAP)" & exists at the root mailbox level.
This is the folder Mail was using to store sent messages locally instead of on the server (when Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Store sent messages on the server was not checked).
Problem is, the local "Sent Messages (AOL IMAP)"
mailbox doesn't contain any messages I sent from the
AOL account after I set Mail to use the "Sent Items"
mailbox for mail sent from that account.
Nor should it. You've told Mail to use another mailbox for that.
So, question #6 becomes: how do I get this local mailbox
to save a copy of messages I send from the account?
You don't. Mail will use it again (and it will disappear from the mailboxes list) if you disable Store sent messages on the server.
More weirdness: in Finder the info for this folder
says it was created at the same time as a "Drafts
(AOL IMAP).mbox" & shortly before creating "Junk (AOL
IMAP).mbox" ... yet these creation dates are
approximately one year before the main
"[email protected]" or its contents like
"Sent Items.imapmbox" were created! IOW, Finder tells
me these folders were created on my Mac around a year
before I set Mail up for the AOL account!
I have no idea what's going on here.

  • MTA Exam 98-361 CS - Please Help ASAP - It would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey guys:
I am brand spanking new to this development scene and have zero background in any type of IT so, please bare with me..I'm currently active duty military planning on getting out in the fall. I heard about the MSSA program
offered by Microsoft and decided to give it a shot since I meet the requirements (well, most). The reason I say most is my lack of background. Anyway, I just heard about the program about three or four weeks ago and didn't find out I met the requirements till
about two weeks ago..At that time, I was also advised that to get into the program I had to pass this exam (MTA 98-361) , and I had to pass it before the new year to get into the course starting in January.
Because I had such a short amount of time to prepare for the exam, of which I had no knowledge of, my leadership has been very flexible in letting me have time to study. I've taken great advantage of this and have spent countless hours at my desk studying.
Probably around 12-14hrs a day, to be honest. I thought I had been taking this stuff in and really learning a lot getting all of these hours in in the past couple of weeks, until today. I get to the building that is holding my certiport proctored exam, I sign
in, and when I do the proctor asks me, "is this the first time you're taking this exam?" At which point I replied yes and she advised me I had to pick the Visual Basic version of the test because it was my first time..My heart dropped and I got very
nervous. I began the test and it looked completely foreign to me. These last two weeks I had focused all of my energy on learning C# and didn't have even a slight idea of how to apply these methods to VB. I know, most of you guys that have been in this awhile
say this test is easy either way, but it wasn't for me, I'm not at that level. Needless to say, I failed...miserably, and was advised I could retake the test in 24hrs and I could take the correct test..real reassuring...When I say I did bad, it was BAD. Now
I'm beginning to question if I even have a grasp on the simple stuff, the basic understanding of all of this. I enjoyed what I was learning, hence the keeping motivation through those long days.
Is this not for me? I was advised that my results would be sent directly to MS and all I could think was GREAT, and I'm trying to get a job in this industry..is this going to look negatively on my behalf when MS sees that, even if I do somehow still manage
to pass the test that I've been studying for and make it into the program? I'm dedicated and wiling to put what I need to into this because, like I said, it really interests me..I'm just looking for some insight if this is a realistic path for me or not and,
if so, if anyone can enlighten me on how I can better prepare myself for the exam next week (CS version).
Is the MeasureUp practice testing as good of a source as it's made out to be? Or should I be going elsewhere? I've watched the MSDN MTA modules multiple times, read Wiley cover to cover, and looked up things I didn't know or wasn't sure of all over the internet.
I'm just wondering what all of you dev gurus would suggest for someone totally new, to learn all of these fundamentals in this short amount of time. Sorry for the lengthiness of this thread, I'm just a little stressed and frustrated.
    Thanks much,
    Joey
////I know there's lots of threads about the MTA 98-361, I'm just looking for particular help in regards to ////my current situation, thank you.//

To start with, I think that your proctor made a mistake. If you have been doing all your studying with C#, you should have taken your exam in C#, not in VB. Although the change from C# to VB is trivial for someone who has years of practice with both languages,
in your particular case you should have stuck with the one with which you were most familiar.
As a second piece of advice, you need some practice rather than just stuudy time. The questions in the MTA exams are in general very easy to reply if you have actually done the things that they are talking about (versus just having studied them on paper).
For this exam about "development fundamentals" I would recommend that you write a few simple programs that exercise the various topics covered in the "skills measured" section of the exam description page. For instance, when you see the
topic labelled "For loops, While loops, Do...While loops, and recursion", go ahead and write a programs with several types of loops and verify that you understand how to write them, how they work, and that they produce the results that you expected.
Do the same with recursion. Repeat this for every entry in the list of Skills Measured, and you should be ready to take the exam.

  • How do I safely stop a Time Machine Restore midway through?

I started a Time Machine restore from backup at about 1pm this afternoon.
After about 15 minutes of estimating the size of the files to be transferred, it gave me a 19hr estimate for transfer time. I had heard that it could take awhile, so I wasn't totally blown away by the number.
I'm backing up about 200 GB. Well, I'm about 2 hours into it, and the time remaining has been fluctuating from 19+ hours to 14 hours. I'm at about 18 hours right now.
I'm beginning to question the ethernet cable I'm using to transfer the data, and wishing I used a USB 2.0. I've also read up on a bunch of other threads about how painfully slow Time Machine can be, and there seems to be little rhyme or reason as to when it's slow vs when it's somewhat reasonable.
So, I guess there are two questions.
Question 1) Can I safely power down, swap cables, and retry? What happens to the data that's already been pulled over?
Question 2) Should I just let it run for the next 18 hrs? I've also read other horror stories where people return to their machines after the time estimated, and it's hardly budged.
Any help would be AWESOME! If i could give you a billion help points, i would!

    majmanMac wrote:
Was doing a full restore from scratch - I lost a hard drive on Monday, and just got a new one put in. Turns out the estimate was about right, as I'm now writing this from my restored machine.
    Yay!
I was restoring from a Time Capsule. For some reason I just assumed it had a USB port.
Ah, yes, it does, but it's for connecting a printer or USB drive, not a Mac.
My concern that i would come back to it this morning and find it still updating has been put to rest. Phew!
Glad it's sorted out, but it does seem like there may be a problem -- that's awfully slow. See #D2 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
And be forewarned: since you have a new drive, Time Machine's next backup will almost certainly be a full one, so remain connected via Ethernet. If there isn't enough free space for that, it will take an extremely long time for Time Machine to delete a lot of old backups to make room. You might consider manually deleting a lot of them, per #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • DNS Settings for multiple domains internal and external.

First forgive me if my post is in the wrong area. If it is, kindly show me to the right location..
OK, here is the deal. I have an xserve running 10.5.6 perfectly. 5 Domains running on it as well perfectly fine. lets call them domain1, domain2, etc...
I run web services and mail services for all 5 domains. but heres the problem...
I want to add another domain "domain6" but I only run the web services not mail. how can I set this up? I tried to add another Zone and only set up the www.domain6.com part but then no mail works as there is no mx record available.
I am behind a firewall. when I am on a local machine and there is no domain6 DNS entry the mail works as the address to the external mail server is correct. but no local web works because I am getting the external IP to the www server. I need to keep traffic on the LAN.
    BEGIN Basic Question *
I want to add another domain that I own but only the A record for the WWW part. How do I add a single entry for www.domain6.com but for everything else like MX records forward outside my network.
    END Basic Question *
    Help Please... Thanks! Bill

Ok that worked. but let me clue you in on something that was happening...
When I set up the domain6 then set up the ns record went on to create the www, mail1, anad mail2 entries when I went to save it addded domain6 to the end of the nameserver host name and both mail MX entries. That was my problem I just didnt see it the first time. I then edited the mail entries and removed the "domain6.com" and left the real mx host names and all is working now. Thanks for helping me.

  • 1-800-VERIZON is useless!

I ordered high speed DSL on April 19, and I'm irate!
I called 1-800-VERIZON on Wednesday, April 25, one week after placing my order to confirm the status of the modem that was being shipped.  I was told that the order had been processed and the modem was shipped.
I called 1-800-VERIZON on Friday, April 27, two days later inquiring the same thing.  I was told the order had been processed and that the modem was shipped.
Meanwhile, on verizon.com/whatsnext, my order status shows a May 3, 2012, activation date and no tracking details on my modem.
I called 1-800-VERIZON on Wednesday, May 2, to inquire about my modem.  The representative I spoke to informed me that there was a problem with my order on VERIZON's end.  The problem was not explained, and no timetable was given for its resolution.  I was not given any direct number to call the people responsible for fixing the problem, or the people responsible for shipping the modem.
So here I am, May 3, on the "activation day" for my High speed DSL service I ordered two weeks ago.  Today, I called 1-800-VERIZON and was informed that the order processing hasn't even gotten into the stage where the modem is to be shipped out.  A problem still existed with the order, and had not been resolved.
So here I wait.  For another 1-800-VERIZON representative to "update" me about a problem that occurred on April 26, 2012, according to the representative I spoke with today.  Here I wait, having wasted my time calling 1-800-VERIZON inquiring about the status of my order, of which a problem exists that should have been recognized when I called the second time!
I've asked to speak to supervisors. I've asked to speak with those "fixing" my problem.  I have gotten nowhere.  I was even promised by a {edited for privacy} from Technical Support located in the Phillipines {edited for privacy} that I would receive my modem today by 5 PM, which was an obvious lie.
Why do customer support numbers exist, when it takes a Herculean effort on MY part to get ANY information about the status of my order.  I should not have to be on the phone with 1-800-VERIZON for hours at a time while each representative I talk to "checks" the status of my order and redirects me to someone else who has to "check" the status of my order.  This is getting absurd.
So here I wait, pessimistic about the likelihood that I'll actually receive any sort of useful help from a VERIZON representative, or if I'll ever receive a returned call.  At this point, I'm beginning to question if I'll ever get service at all.
VERIZON should ensure that their customer representatives have the ability to solve problems, and not waste their customers time!

    Hello frustrated-ver,
I apologize for the trouble with the features for you phone service. I have sent you a private message.
    Thanks,

  • New Ipod Mini (2nd Generation) Unrecognized by Windows XP Pro

I'm beside myself with frustration after two days of trying to get this to work. Three XP Pro computers tell me "USB Device not recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned - Windows does not recognize it. For assistance click this message"
    Other points I have determined:
    - My son and daughter both have ipod minis that are recognized on at least one of these computers.
    - I have used their cables with same (non) results
    - Windows Explorer can see and access the Mini when in disk mode.
    - Have tried both original and latest ipod and itunes software - same result.
    - Ipod plays the default music selection on it perfectly
    - Took it to an apple reseller who plugged it into a Mac and it was recognized immediately. He offered to reset it for me for $30 but said there were no guarantees this would fix my problem.
    - Technician identified this as a "British" ipod.
    - Can't reset the device as I can't connect (Catch 22). I think this is key to my problem.
    - Tried running the ipod software and connecting in safe mode to eliminate any conflicts - nada...
    - Tried all the other suggestions offered in the white papers on the Apple website, but still no joy...
    - Feel Steve is getting even with me for buying a PC...
    Thoughts, anyone?
    TIA,
    Peter

After reading some of the commentary here, I am beginning to question whether the latest ipod software for Windows is truly functional. Is it working for anyone?
    TIA
    Peter

  • Music videos in landscape mode ever coming back???

Dear Apple, I doubt you'll read this or do anything but I guess it's worth a try.  It used to be that when you played a music video via the musof app on your iphone, it would display the video in landscape mode. Now, extermely inituitively, turning your phone to the side shows a selection of your album covers. No one wants that. I seriously can not think of one person. Looking in your own forums you have questions in 2013 asking to bring this back but no response has been given. That's called arrogance. This is not some big technical ask. It would take you little to no time so what gives? You say you care about the customer experience but between this and the iTunes library syncing issues I am beginning to question that.

You're correct as there is no Apple here in this user to user technical forum.
