Best Export Settings For High Quality Upload

Hi..   Sorry if this is a dumb question - I'm not real flash on the technical side of things, I learnt how to edit by slicing together home-made rally driving videos!! I've not studied or anything..
Anyhow..
I'm shooting videos for someone who is doing Real Estate Training..   They are being shot on a Canon 7D (HD).
The course this guy is selling has an online option,   and so all the videos I'm shooting need to be uploaded - which poses a problem for me..
I've not been able to find a way to export these videos with any sort of quality without them being 300-400mb in size!   Obviously this is no good as I believe this guy is having the videos hosted on his site (rather than going to Youtube - as people are paying for the course).
So,   I'm trying to find out what the best way is for me to get these clips down to around 20mb or so, but still retain some quality.. Is this possible?
From what I've seen, the clips are going to be somewhere between 5-8 minutes long, and as I said they're being shot in HD..
I'm editing with Prem CS4 on a Windows system running 64bit Windows 7.
I think I've got it covered if he needs these on DVD as I'm working on another training project at the moment which is going to DVD,   but getting vids down to size for upload is throwing me.
If anyone could help me out that would be great.. There is a little urgency to this in my case,   we are shooting on Friday, and he's going to need the files in a week (I've got 3-4 hrs worth of videos to put together)..
Any help would be fantastic.

Export settings for high quality, high resolution screen cast

I am trying to use iMovie for editing some software demo screen casts, and while my movie looks dandy in iMovie shown full screen, my final export looks like there is a lot of compression and antialiasing going on.
I am starting with a 1920X1080 screen capture via iShowU HD Pro, using Animation as the compression type. For final output I am using the Export using QuickTime option, and I have tried MPEG-4 at Best Quality, H.264 with Best Quality Compression and Multi-pass Encoding, and both look pretty bad. Anyone have any recommendations on the best export settings for a screen cast? Especially one that I would ultimately like to make available cross platform as well as via iTunes?

I understand iMovie 6 won't compress the import. Everyone complained when apple changed away from iMovie 6 and but a link to download ILife6 (no cost) but they have since removed the link. I am looking for ILife 6 myself to get an uncompressed import if you find it please post so I can get it too, thx dan

FCE export settings for higher quality video

Hello. I'm a self-schooled newspaper video features producer and relative newcomer to Final Cut Express, shifting from Premium Elements. I've just begun using it to upload videos to my newspaper's finicky web system, which will only accept .flv files of a certain size. My modus operandi has been to export my videos as large .avi files, using Quicktime conversion and DV/DVCPRO/NTSC, with medium quality, with 16 bit sound set at 32 Khz. Then I run that .avi through the Adobe Flash Media Encoder with a frame rate of 15 fps, deinterlacing and resizing the screen to 640 by 480. This procedure (outlined by our former video editor) produces serviceable web quality video (You can see video that results from using these settings at http://wvgazette.com/multimedia). So, two questions: 1) I have created an 8-minute FCE music video for my band and wish to export it at a higher quality (for use on Vimeo) than these newspaper settings. Which of them do I change so that a higher quality video results without waiting all night for a massive file to upload? 2) And wthere might I turn for guidance on better understanding the Sanskrit of FCE video export settings for newbies? The simplest way to produce good quality video for the internet is:-
1. File>Export Using QT Conversion.
2. The "Format" window should say, "QT Movie".
3. In "Use" select "LAN/Intranet" from the dropdown menu.
4. Click "Save" and when it has finished encoding, upload it.
Do not mess about altering audio settings, frame rates etc.
Using the above settings an 8 minute video would be encoded in around 20 minutes (depending on computer speed) and would be well under 100MB.
Is that too big?

Export settings for high quality R3D footage

I've been working on a Project using 5K R3D footage directly into Adobe Premiere Pro. Now it's time to export and I'd like to know what would the output settings need to be in order for the footage not to loose quality and have a relatively compact size at the same time.
I am working on a 5 minute short. I exported a 35 second scene to a Quicktime ProRes4444 codec. Beautiul quality, but the file was a little over 1Gb. Should I export QuickTime or Mpeg?
I know ProRes 4444 will give me huge files... should I go 422?

I wouldn't throw away valuable chroma info going to 422 if you have 5K footage.
I'd find a AVC-Intra or other codec that is 444.
MPEG2 doesn't support 444
h.264 does but I'm not aware of any Premiere plugin encoder that does 444.
I think you're better off staying with the ProRes444. 1Gig isn't that big since 1Tb is less than $100 these days. Heck, 1Gig fits easy onto a usb thumb drive - so shipping it to someone is still dirt cheap.
for 5 minutes that's 10x more (5min = approx 10 x 35seconds) so you're still only looking at 10Gbytes total size.
If storage is important stay with an 444 format with some other non-ProRes/DNxHD format like h.264 (assuming you can find a 444 solution).

What are the best export settings for a HD video in Premier Pro CS4?

   I've been having so much trouble with this issue and it's something that continually frustrates my boss. I have a HD video the settings for it are
FPS 23.98
1920 x 1080, then a few lines down it says 1408 x 792
16 bit,
2 channels
48000 Hz
   What should the settings be when I make a new sequence?
             When I look at it in the window in Premiere Pro I have to contantly 'shrink' the image to fit the window, is that something I should be doing or does it indicate the sequence settings are incorrect?
But more importantly what should the export settings be? I exported a 4 minute long video and the size was 1 GB, I know that's too big.
I need to export it without loosing any quality and export another one that meets the Youtube and Vimeo limits on size.
Vimeo is 500 MB per week, sometimes I upload 4 videos per week. I think Youtube you can only upload 500 MB at a time.
I need to get smaller sizes with loosing the least amount of quality possible AND the best export settings for quality, so I guess I have 3 separate questions-
What are the best sequence settings for HD video?
What are the best export settings for HD without loosing any quality?
What are the best export settings for the size to come out around 500 MB with loosing the least amount of quality possible?

On the above thread I used the 5th anwer, and it's going to take about 7 hours to export a 4 minute video :/

It Stands for "Coder Decoder."
Your format is like a container for your video file. Certain containers can hold certain codecs and not others. Other containers can hold other codecs. Sometimes different containers can hold the same codecs.
This might be a bad analogy but I'll give it a try.
A coffe cup (container) can hold pretty much any liquid you drink, where a red solo cup (container) won't hold scolding water. So, the coffe cup would be your container of choice most likely because it has the most options for liquids (codecs). But, you might want a red solo cup for just a single crappy beer at a party (a moderate quality streaming video on the web). In that case, you don't need all the optoins of another container.
In Premiere Pro CC H.264 is a Container and the Codec in one option. This has been streamlined for web distrobution of video to be played in browsers without things like Flash or special players.
Were as if you choose the QuickTime Container there are over 40 codec optoins (at least on my machine with additinal ones installed) but you may run into an issue where your browser doesn't support QuickTime playback.
I would say that your container is for compatability with players and your codec is taken into consideration when looking at the quality of the compression.
Yesteraday I wrote a blog entery on Exporting from Premiere Pro and found that the MPEG-4 codec inside of the QuickTime container gave me much richer colors than the H.264 container/codec option.

Best export settings for HD video playback on computer?

I have shot my video on 1080p witha DSLR and edited it in premiere pro. I exported the video in .mp4 format.
Now i imported the video in after effects and added loads of animation. I want to export it to the best quality for playback ON COMPUTER ONLY. Which is the best export settings for this purpose.
I rendered it in .avi and my 12 minute video had a size of 55GB after render and did not play smoothly in the computer.. PLEASE HELP WITH THE BEST SETTINGS for the above purpose.

You messed up. You should NOT have rendered MP4 out of Premiere to use in AE. You're adding compression and quality loss in between stages. BAD video person!
The easiest thing to do would be to import your Premiere project in AE. That way it can use the original footage too. If, for some reason, you can't do that, you should render a lossless file out of Premiere. Speaking of lossless files, that's what you rendered out of AE. This page explains your large AE file issue.
Anyway, take that large file you render out of AE into the Adobe Media Encoder and render out your final compressed file. Either H.264 or WMV should work well for playback.

Imovie08 export settings for good quality

I'm using iMovie08 with my Canon HF100 but cannot find the best export settings for my MP4-files. The exported movie needs to run on my PS3 and my macbook. I want to export in 720p and 1080p format, using H.256 and ACC, but I'm not sure what bitrate to use for my movies to get acceptable quality. Tried using 5000k for 720p but that left me with lots of compression artifacts.
Any hints?

For 1080p try unlimited bitrate or a minimum of 16000.

2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folders and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (1)
(1) for faster input/output with 4 drives
- use drive 3 for all source files
- use drive 4 for all output files
(2) only 60Gig used, for Win7 & CS5 MC & MS Office & other smaller programs

Best export settings for DNxHD?

Hey guys,
I'm working with R3D files (4KHD) in CS6 and need to export them for grading/editing in DNxHD at 1080p. Any tips on the best export settings for this?
Also - is it necessary to downconvert the 4KHD in some way to 1080p before the export process? The files I'm ending up with are a noticeably poorer quality than the original; I'm not sure if this is due to an error I've made during the conversion or if its a natural part of using the codec?

What are the best export settings for mini DVs (now in mov format) for the following uses and how do I input these settings:
1. archive an exact duplicate without any quality loss of an imported mini DV tape. My goal is to have the best quality/duplicate archived digital version of the original mini DV tape for later editing/use?
2. the best quality version of the mini dv tape for viewing on media devices such as WDLive, boxee box, pivos xios, etc?

First, I do NOT write back to tape... so only have a few saved links with no personal experience... but my "general" understanding is that you simply play your timeline with Firewire output active and press the record button on your tape deck

Can anyone give me some advice on the best export settings for a short video that is to be viewed on the web? I have some short, say 2 minute videos that need to be placed on a website and need a reasonable file size. What would the best Format and Preset options be in Premiere? The choice of conversion software is a personal choice, I have around a dozen applications that will tackle AVI's, however VisualHub is not one of them, not because there is anything wrong with it but rather I have enough such applications in my arsenal already.
I would use mpegstreamclip in most scenarios for what you are wanting to do but maybe not always. It is a good idea to have a few applications to choose from as not all do the same thing. mpegstreamclip has a few more options than some bog standard applications without becoming overburdening with choices.
You might want to try a few applications yourself before deciding on the software for you. isquint is a free limited version of visualhub, you might want to give that a whirl to get a feeling for visualhub.
Be aware though that quality conversions do not happen quickly, claims of being faster than other applications may well be correct, but are usually a trade off against quality. Again you need to choose your software to reflect your preferred balance between speed and quality.
Here's how I use mpegstreamclip, http://web.me.com/gartside1104/z008/Mpegstreamclip.html but your AVI's may well be low quality, you shouldn't set the bitrate any higher than your source file and likely lower, you shouldn't increase the frame size either.

I really could use some help with my export settings using FinalCut Pro 7. Most of my shows are no more than 20 minutes and I pretty much know the best QuickTime export settings for uploading to Vimeo, Exposure Room,YouTube...etc. But now I am trying export a lengthy project at 53 minutes.
The footage is mixed and some of it was not converted to ProRes but it plays great and renders fine in the timeline. The sequence settings were picked automatically at 1920x1080 because of the main footage that was brought in.
This upload is for client viewing purposes ONLY so I really don't care about the quality as much as the export speed. As far as what I’ve tried - I am using the H.264 codec. I tried lowering it to NTSC 720x480, then tried 1280x720 HD. I set the compressor lower than medium and the Kbps (?) settings to AUTOMATIC when I typically set it manually, between 3000 and 5000. My audio is set at AAC.
It’s a crappy project because of the way it was frankenstein’d together in the field (I’m just cutting it), but I'm committed now and have a huge deadline. I'm getting a bit nervous because of how many hours it’s taking to export. The client is going to make inevitablec hanges and will want to see those changes quickly again - online.
NOTE: My Compressor does not work and I’ve never needed to use so far so that option is not available.
I could really use could some wisdom today!

what are the absolute BEST export settings to use when creating a slideshow to be played on a tv? additionally, i have used images with text & photos imported from illustrator.
i want slides to be of the highest quality, along with text that DOES NOT have a halo around it..

You can't ask for the 'absolute best' and then quality it. The absolute best is something lossless, but those files rarely play on anything but a computer. So you need something that plays on the TV, which isn't likely to be the absolute best. But...chances are it will be plenty good enough.
Use the H.264 format with the Match Source - High bitrate preset.

I am trying to export a video to Flash for uploading to the web. I am using Sorenson Squeeze to convert the file to Flash. What is the best export settings in FCP for this. I don't want to encode the file twice.

What format is your original material and what format is your sequence? Generally speaking, export with sequence settings. This will not add any additional compression.
