Best method to stop game and make a 3,2,1 countdown on screen?

Hi,
Was wondering if I wanted to stop my game so that no input and all ai action seized what the best way to do it is, is there a way besides stop every listener and every timer and ai event?
Also I want to kind of make a big 3,2,1 countdown appear in the middle of the screen, what is the best way to do that?? make the symbols and then going visible->invisible for each?

One way you could probably weave in to stop everything in one shot is to have a boolean variable that you set true/false that is used for every event handler function or other function that might be activated. Meaning the first line inside a function is a conditional to test the value of that boolean... that conditional being the gateway to the rest of the code. But if you intend to truly shut down the works, then stopping all listeners and processing piece by piece would be your safest bet.
There are a varety of ways you could do a countdown. Just using a textfield might suffice. Or maybe you want something more graphical where a movieclip changes frames or something. There really are too many options for you to need to ask... just think what you'd like to see and do it.

Best Methods for Time, Tempo and Rhythm Alignment?

Hello All, I am looking to edit some lengthy jams to concise segments. I wish to mix and match audio tracks (ex. drum section from begining with bass section in middle with guitar section at end). No metronome was used, so while the general structure (melody and rhythm) remained similar, tempos vary so that the parts don't match up perfectly. I know Logic has some pretty powerful time-based editing capabilities through its flex mode, but i am confused where the logical starting point would be for my situation. Do you think it would be to first chop up segments, pick a q-reference, set a global tempo, stretch or compress segments, and then individually correct any remaining rhythm alignment issues? What do you think are the best methods to accomplish this? I hope my questions are clear - if not please tell me. Thanks to anyone who cares and can help!

New Mac on the way - Best method of moving data and apps?

Is the Mac Migration Assistant the best way to move over my data and applications from my old 13" MBP to my new 15" MBP? Or is it best to reinstall my apps manually?

Use the Migration Assistant. Their are specific files not in the application folder that contain preferences and the like. The Migration Assistant will move over those preferences as well as the applications themselves. Plus it takes WAY less time.

You will most likely end up wasting a lot of time for very little gain.
There are no miracle solutions, you either use faster apps or buy faster hardware.
The tweaks which are truly interesting without major drawbacks usually make their way on a default system, one way or another.
For example, for directory index on ext3 :

So if you want an advice, there are areas more interesting to explore, like programming for instance. You might end up having the capability to really improve apps performance, or write your own lighter alternatives.

Uninstall game and make it new

I have a mini iPad running the current soft ware that is available. There are several games I enjoy playing , but have reached levels where I have to pay if I want to move forward. I have tried to install them and reinstall,them for a fresh start, but they reinstall at the same level. How can I get them to start at the beginning. again?

just download the latest version of itunes on your computer and re-install it and that wont erase any data from itunes
once you have the latest version of itunes, only then you can sync your new ipod to itunes

I had a download on my angry birds game and now it does not work just turns screen black and then goes back to normal

my angry birds showed an update so i did, when it finished i cannot play it now, when try to play the welcome screen comes up and then after a few seconds turns black and then the phone returns to normal

I suggest taking it back to Best Buy. Once it has been opened, Apple will not handle the phone. Best Buy or another 3rd party are your only choices. Best Buy probably made an error when replacing the screen. Understand they are not an authorized Apple Service Center.

Brightness/Contrast in CS6 - Best Method?

Can anyone please tell me what is the best method for adjusting brightness and contrast in CS6? Is it by simply adjusting the Brightness/Contrast properties in an Adjustment Layer or is there a better way of going about it?

The advice I have gotten is use it on an adjustment layer. It's "non-destructive", won't permanently alter your picture and you can return to the picture for further adjustments or delete the layer later on.
When using the brightness/contrast setting, try the Auto button first, and if you are not satisfied with that, set brightness to 100, contrast to 50 and adjust from there.
Leave the "Legacy" box unchecked. It mimics how the older versions of b/c use to behave, causing clipping.
Yes, there are better ways, like curves,but I'm assuming you want to work with b/c for now.

You can do this if you create a key with your face or start with green screening it.

Best Method for transferring projects back and fourth

Hello. I will soon be purchasing an iMac for home use and would like to get some advice on project transfer. I will be doing a lot of video editing back and fourth between the office and home. What is the best method for doing this? Where can i locate the files to make sure that I have everything and wont be missing anything when I bring it home, etc. Thanks for any advice!

Use a (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD to keep your media, events and projects on.
You can then take the drive to work with you and back home. Use FCP X to transfer (or create) the event and projects on this drive and both macs will recognise it.
The drive must be formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled is not important for video drives).

Please tell me wether I have to add any other Properties to limit the time of lookup and make the method to throw an Exception after two or three second, if the server is not available.

What do you mean by 'non-stop error'? This can only happen if your code goes into a non-stop loop.
The default TCP connect timeout is about 75 seconds, which in some circumstances is too long, but two or three seconds definitely isn't long enough. Ten to twenty would be more like it.
I'm not aware of any system properties that limit the ORB connect timeout but then I'm not aware where the existing J2SE ORB system properties are documented. If anybody has ever found this please let us know.
