Hi,
You can read every thread in this forum.
1.Personnel Administration - it deals with the HR Master Data
2.Organization Management - It deals with the personnel planning all about Business Units,Cost centers etc this will give the picture how your organization look virtually.
Keep these modules as base must know modules
3 Time Management - This manages employee times ,leaves, quotas, shifts, working schedules etc working patterns etc
CATS ,Cross Application Time sheets
Shift Planning etc are part of Time Management but these are individually separate knowledge of these is not necessary when you start your career going forward it would be helpful to grow.
4.Payroll- This manages employee payment part and payment including the off cycle payments
These 4 can be considered to be the basic modules of HCM
5 Recruitment -Deals with process of recruitment from manpower planning to on-boarding
Apart from these we have
6.Benefits -which deals with the fringe benefits (applicable to USA ) and some other countries-I t deals with the insurance ,medical etc
7,ESS/MSS This is self service module employee self service and manager self service these are Portal based modules
We have new generation modules
Such(8) E- Recruitment this deals with the E Recruitment this is portal based modules
Learning Solution
Succession Planning
Personnel Development
Talent Visualization by Nakisa
Enterprise compensation Management (this is again a separate module)
These all part of Talent Management Suite and portal based modules knowing these would give you an edge.
This module is very upcoming and hot
To become an effective HCM consultant you need have good business process knowledge combined with the any of 4 to modules (indepth)
Outside HCM if you knowledge of HR ABAP and MS Excel and MS Word of great advantage.
To start your choose Personnel Management,Org Management combined with Time Management and Payroll
Or ESS/MSS with Talent Management

    Hi Shaukat!
Please take a look at http://help.sap.com -> SAP Best Practices -> Cross-Industry Packages.
You can also try and take a look at http://service.sap.com/swdc -> Download -> Installations & Upgrades -> Entry by Application Group -> SAP Best Practices
Caution! You only can use the BP if this is suitable to your ERP version! Check if your HCM BP is for ERP2004. If so it will not work on an ERP2005 System.
    I hope this helps!

  • SAP Best Practices for Payroll

    Hi Gurus,
We have a SAP ECC6.0 version installed at our client side. My Client is developing a software for SAP Payroll. They want to run Payroll in their SAP system to figure out few things. SAP has recommended to install SAP Best Practices for HCM to get some test data. My questions to you all are:-
    1) SAP best Practices do provide preconfigured settings and some amount of Test Data. How will I install SAP Best Practices for HCM at my client System. Please do tell me in detail because I dont have any knowledge how to proceed as I a SAP HCM functional consultant. We dont have any basis consultant in our team.
    2) How long it can take to install SAP Best Practices for HCM and the complete proceedure to do it?
    3) Is it true that the test data provided by SAP BP and the pre configured base settings will be sufficient to run Payroll. Mind it,my client does not want to run payroll as per their needs, they just want to see how it is run in SAP with the SAP test data.
I would really appreciate if you guyz can provide me any knowledge related to this matter.
    Thanks a ton

This is my first independent project of HCM implementation. I have just started the system configuration. Done with setting up the PA, PSA, EG and ESG. Assigned to CC.  At this stage, I have a very basic question which is, what is the best practice for the next steps of configuration. What do I go to next, step up the OM in the SAP EasyAccess Menu? How should I go from here?

  • HCM Best Practice LOAD - Error in Copy Report variants Step

    Dear Friends,
We are trying to use/load the HCM Best Practice data for testing purpose. We have applied the HCM Best Practice Add -ON. It went successfully. When we try to execute the Preparation step - (in Copy Varient Phase) using Tcode /HRBPUS1/C004_K01_01 we are getting the following error.
<b>E00555 Make an entry in all required fields</b>
Request you to provide some solution for the same.
    Thanks and regards,
    Abhilasha

    Hi Sunny and others,
The main error here was sapinst couldn´t find and read the cntrlW01.dbf because this file was not on that location (/oracle/W01/112_64/dbs).
I already solved this issue... what I did was:
1º) As user ora I went in sqlplus as sysdba and I ran the following script (the control.sql script that was generated at the begining of the system copy process):
    SQL> @/oracle/CONTROL.SQL
    Connected.
ORA-32004: obsolete or deprecated parameter(s) specified for RDBMS instance
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
    Control file created.
    Database altered.
    Tablespace altered.
2º) This is very important, is necessary to know where is the .CTL that was created with the script, so I checked what was the value of the parameter control_files in that moment:
    SQL> show parameter control_files;
    /oracle/W01/oraflash/W01/controlfile/o1_mf_6pqvl4jt_.ctl
3º) Next, logged with ora, for the sapinst read the value that it needed, I copied this file to the location/path that is needed for sapinst could read:
    cp /oracle/W01/oraflash/W01/controlfile/o1_mf_6pqvl4jt_.ctl /oracle/W01/112_64/dbs/cntrlW01.dbf
4º) I ran the sapinst from the point he had stopped.
    Thank you for your help.
    Kind regards,
    João Dimas - Portugal

    Hi
There's no 'best practice' as such, but there are a few that I think should be default:
Enabling CDR, On-Hook Pickup, CFwdAll Override... but really the settings are specific to the requirements of the deployment.

  • Best Practice - HCM service

    Hi,
The ESS latest package was uploaded initially into the portal. This package consists of mostly the Webdynpro iviews.
Later it was decided to use the Best practice, so it is uploaded. Now all the services provided in the Best practice is available in one common folder, except for the ESS. The iviews available in this Best practice are mostly the transaction iviews.
My query is that, why the HCM (ESS) services are not there under the best practice folder? Is it due to the already uploaded ESS package? What should i do to avail the HCM services of the best practice?
It's urgent. plz help. All useful answers will be rewarded.

Thanks Bharathwaj for the reply. Here is the link.

    Hi ,
There are no specific set of steps / practices for batch loading contents to ucm . It would be very much dependent on how many contents does the user have to load to UCM and how well the server is configured in terms of performance .
You can get more details from the following documentation link : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21043_01/doc.1111/e10792/c02_settings009.htm

  • Best Practice for Production IDM setup

Hi, what is the best practice for setting up prodcution IDM:
    1. Connect IDM prod to ECC DEV,QA and Prod or
    2. Connect IDM prod to ECC prod only and Connect IDM dev to ECC Dev and QA.
Please also specify pros and cons for both options if possible.
    Thanks in advance,
    Farhan

We run our IDM installation as per your option 2 (Prod and non-prod on separate instances)
We use HCM for the source of truth in production and have a strict policy regarding not allowing non HCM based user accounts. HCM creates the SU01 record and details are downloaded to IDM through the LDAP extract. Access is provision based on Roles attached to the HCM Position in IDM. In Dev/test/uat we create user logins in IDM and push the details out.
Our thinking was that we definitely needed a testing environment for development and patch testing, and it needs to be separate to production. It was also ideal to use this second environment for dev/test/uat since we are in the middle of a major SAP project rollout and are creating hundreds of test and training users with various roles and prefer to keep this out of a production instance.
Lately we also created a sandpit environment since I found that I could not do destructive testing or development in the dev/test/uat instance because we were becoming reliant on this environment being available. Almost a second production instance - since we also set the policy that all changes are made through IDM and no direct SU01 changes are permitted.
Have a close look at your usage requirements before deciding which structure works best for you.
