BestBuy "HOLDS" 2X the authorized amount on a Debit Card?

My bank alerted me to having 2 charges for a single purchase from Best Buy - it was a preorder.  My online account already shows both charges deducted.
I call customer service and the first rep tells me - only one charge was authorized - nothing we can do, deal with your bank.
The item cost about $74.00 but Bestbuy is hold that twice making $148.00 unusable. Is that even legal? I mean that is going to get people into overdraft with their bank. Guys like me have no idea they did this.
So is this normal procedure when you use a debit card to make an online purchase?  I've never had a merchant do this sort of thing. Just because technically its being "HELD" and will be "dropped" this is ok? My bank tells me its up to Best Buy to authorize the cancellation on the extra charge.  I was planning to use the extra funds this month. A BBY rep better do a good job explaining this to me or I'll never shop at BBY again because this is ridiculopus. I had a few friends that went into overdraft buying from bestbuy but now I think I know why.

Pre-ordering should be a fairly simple and pleasant process. It is regrettable to hear that you somehow are seeing two authorizations on your account.
To clarify our authorization and collection method, we will initially authorize the account for the full amount of the order, to ensure the funds are available. From that point on, we will reverse the authorization and actually collect funds as the items ship. If the financial institution in question has a delay with reversing authorizations and collecting funds, it is possible to see both transactions at once.
Similar processes will occur if you have multiple items and they ship at separate times. The difference would be the authorized amount for the item shipping would be reversed, and collected. Then, the remaining funds would be reauthorized for the new amount. With your pre-order, it is likely the authorization will expire, and release the funds to you. Upon release of the item, your card should be reauthorized for the appropriate amount and the funds collected as usual.
Using the email address you registered with the forum, I was able to locate your order and look at the transactions from this order. Presently, it would appear that we’ve only authorized the original amount once, but then reversed a portion of that authorization as it appears you’ve regrettably canceled part of your order.
If you are seeing more than one authorization, please know that authorizations do expire after a few business days. If you are still seeing both authorizations in a week or so, please let me know. In the meantime, I would recommend reaching out to your financial institution for more information.

    Having twice the amount of an order unavailable from your account would be quite frustrating, especially if you have limited funds available. Our normal process when an order is placed is that an authorization is placed on the account to verify that the funds are available, and the funds should not actually be collected until the order ships. If items ship separately, the funds should be collected only for the items that have shipped.
    Depending on your financial institution, the authorization may make the funds unavailable all together, or it may only appear as a pending charge as we have not collected any funds yet. Depending on how your financial institution processes transactions, you may see the authorization and charge on your account at the same time until your financial institution drops the authorization. Typically, the authorization is dropped on our end when the funds are finally collected. Information on authorizations and collections can be found on our Conditions of Use page on BestBuy.com.
    I was able to review the order once I located it using the email address you registered with the forum. It appears that the only transactions would have been the authorization and the collection of funds. That being said, I would recommend reaching out to your financial institution in regards to the authorization that is likely still holding the funds on their end.     I would wait like a week or so after you cancelled but after that you should call their customer service and see what's going on on their end of the transaction.

  • How do i retrieve the remaining amount for a gift card?

    I had redeemed a itunes gift card and had not used the whole amount on it yet but then when I sign on there is no place to go that shows the remaining balance on the card. I don't have the card anymore assuming that the number would be stored in itunes..Can anyone help?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost      
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and sing out and sign back in
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
    To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings                 
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:                                               
    iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.                       
    If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • I have 4 charges of the exact same amount on my debit card account and I DID NOT make them. How can I get iTunes to refund my money?

    I tried entering in a new debit card number into my iTunes account yesterday, from my ipod touch. For some reason it was telling me the information I entered does not match my bank account. I tried 3 or 4 times, but to no avail. I figured I would wait until I was at home & do it from my home computer. About 5 minutes after putting my ipod away, I got a call from my bank saying that there are 4 charges of the exact amount that were charged from iTunes just minutes after each other and they wanted to make sure they were not fraudulant. Well they ARE!!! I did NOT authorize any purchases and now I have 4 charges of $34.78 made to my bank account that I didn't make. ITunes only offers online support...ERRRR!!! My bank told me that it is iTunes responsibility to refund the charges. WHAT DO I DO?????????

    I just got back from Afghanistan and discovered two fresh charges for $40.00 from itunes on my Visa account. I havent bought anything from I tunes in over a year. And sure as **** not worth $40.00. The Bank rep told me this has been happening a lot and credited my account for the $80.00 worth of unauthorized charges. Also had to have my card cancelled and get a new one. Apple itunes had better get their **** together and aggressively put a stop to this. Or I will. In court, if it happens again. This is happening in their name. I see this all over the place and haven't seen a single statement from Itunes. I'm terminating my relationship with itunes until I see they have satisfactorally addressed this. No one rips me off.

    Okay, so i had made a purchase wiht my Visa Debit Gift Card about a month ago. I knew my balance was low on my card (about $0.91). With that in mind and knowing the exact balance i had gone a made a purchase. Now, however, the itunes on my comupter said i had $0.51 left in my account. My ippod itunes store app said i had $0.88 left in my account. I had made the purchase on my ipod note. In seeing that amount (the $0.88) i mad my purchase. everything went thru with no errors, until later in the month. I go to update a few of my apps from the itunes computer version. when i tried to update, it said i had to confirm my payment method. So, thinking i would just choose "none" i clicked okay. Come to find out, my debit card is still attached to my account and i cannot undo this and im also in debt $1.29. Apple, you suck first off. And second, i've been reading that adding an itunes gift card will not undo this debt...furthermore i must continue to say Apple, you suck. Why can i not undo this?

    Just found an alternative that I thought was possible but wanted to confirm.
    Set yourself up a Nokia account on www.ovi.com and set up an OVI Sync account. Sync the phone to the online account to start with.
    Then, using the online interface to OVI Sync you can create an event that can be repeated weekly among other things. Re-sync the phone and that repeating event will be entered into your calendar.

    Oracle is not any kind of magic!
    As per your client request you need an application which can read the magnetic tape and encode the no, which in turn can retrieve the data from your database!
    As of now no application is in Oracle at least for this! Try some customize application to have the same.

    Debit cards are no longer accepted in the iTunes Store, it seems. The current valid payment methods are listed here:

    You can try contacting the iTunes Store and asking if there is any way to use your card, but they probably will tell you that it's not possible.

    Sign in to the iTunes Store. You can do that from the iTunes menu bar.
    Click Store > Sign In
    Then back to the menu bar click Store > View My Account
    In the Account Information window click the Edit button to the right of Payment Type
    Enter your debit card number, the expiration date, and the security code from the back of the card.
    Enter your billing address. Your billing address must be the same as the billing address on your debit card account.
    Then click Done.
    Now you can purchase iTunes media.
    Sometimes on new accounts Apple will place an "authorization hold" on your debit card for approximately $1. If you see this charge on your debit card statement, it's ok, Apple will credit that amount back in 24 to 48 hrs. All that is doing is verifying your account status.

Because, I billed half to my account, as the system LET me do this and the other half to my debit card. Well they tried to take out the FULL PURCHASE PRICE on 9/23.     its a bunch of **. they charged my credit card on sunday, my status still says no payment, no tracking #, they told me my phone was going to ship monday and I've gotten a different story every day since. today they told me they shipped out all the phones and are waiting for more to come in...blah blah blah. i ordered on 9/12 and my friend that ordered the same exact phone on 9/19 got his on tuesday and laughed at me for preordering.
