Better today's date formatted in supported API?

Since "Use of NSCalendarDate strongly discouraged." prior to deprecation what is your preferred alternative to:
// NSCalendarDate *now;
// now = [NSCalendarDate calendarDate];
// [textField setObjectValue:now];
The following is obviously better from the point of view of end-user localization etc.
Is it what you do or do you do something as "good" for the end-user but less verbose?
From the API Reference:
"The format for these date and time styles is not exact because they depend on the locale, user preference settings,
and the operating system version. Do not use these constants if you want an exact format.
Available in Mac OS X v10.4 and later."
[NSDateFormatter setDefaultFormatterBehavior:NSDateFormatterBehavior10_4];
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[[NSDateFormatter alloc] init ] autorelease];
[dateFormatter setDateStyle:NSDateFormatterMediumStyle];
[dateFormatter setTimeStyle:NSDateFormatterMediumStyle];
NSString *formattedDateString = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]];
[textField setObjectValue:formattedDateString];
NSLog(@"Current date / time = %@", formattedDateString);
// Output like: "Current date / time = 6 Aug 2008 11:37:38"

I 'll assume this is the way to do it then!

    When I add imports to get around the problem described in my previous

    to "handle" in order to run?The exception lets you know that there is a specific issue you need to work
    around during migration. The reason we don't just return the unformatted
    value is that we didn't want to give the impression that date formatting
    worked when it doesn't (yet).
    If you just want the value to come through without an attempt at formatting,
    the correct thing to do is to change your JSP tags to eliminate the date
    formatting attributes. If this is a loss of data (the format masks), then
    you should just comment them out rather than delete them.
    The whole issue of date formatting is unfortunately complex. Suffice to say
    that it is far easier for the developer to format the date as they wish in
    their code then it is for us to try and provide generic date formatting.
    The issue revolves around having all the necessary information in order to
    do the formatting in a generic way.

    Hi,
    In the weekly view of the ADF Calendar, the date on the toolbar of the calendar component is something like this "May 1,2011 - May 7,2011".
    Is there a way to configure this. What changes need to be done to show this as "1 May 2011 - 7 May 2011".

  • Date Format issue in my report.

    Hello Experts-
    I created a report with a date prompt, which we need to enter two dates, start date and end date.
    I followed the steps as they were in this link
    http://obiee101.blogspot.com/2009/03/obiee-between-dates-prompt.html
    I changed the condition in the prompt to Date'1900-1-1' instead of TIMESTAMP'1900-1-1- 00:00:00
    I.e.,
    CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN CALENDAR.D_DATE ELSE Date' 1900-01-01' END
    and
    CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN CALENDAR.D_DATE ELSE Date '2999-12-31' END
    I stored those two dates in two presentation variables start_date, end_date
    In my report, I imposed a filter on my table that, date coulmn in my table is between Date'@(start_date}' and Date'@{end_date}'
    But when I am running the report with entering two dates, I am getting this error:
    *State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 46046] Datetime value 12/1/2010 does not match the specified format. (HY000)*
    I entered 12/01/2010 as start date and 12/02/2010 as end_date
    Can you please guide me in this issue.

    I think your date format is in different format with the date format u stored in presentation variable so better check the date format of the case function u wrote it in you variable that will solve the problem.

  • Supported date formats for sorting

    Can someone point me to a document describing the supported
    date formats for sorting? I mean, how should I format a date column
    in an XML dataset in order to have this column correctly sorted
    using the Spry framework?
    Thank you and sorry if the question is trivial.

    Thanks, what I have done for the moment as a temporary
    solution is to use the two date formats and have them both inside
    the one cell in the table (the column for the sortable date
    yyyy-mm-dd). In my CSS I have created a style for the first date
    that has it's visibility as hidden. That way it's sorting the Date1
    but only Date2 is being shown to the users as the other cells have
    more than one line of text it doesn't look too off centre.
    <div spry:region="ds2">
    <table width="662">
    <tr>
    <th width="127" class="eventhead"
    spry:sort="Date1">Date</th>
    <th width="151" class="eventhead"
    spry:sort="Type">Type</th>
    <th width="146" class="eventhead"
    spry:sort="Title">Title</th>
    <th width="189" class="eventhead"
    spry:sort="Venue">Venue</th>
    </tr>
    <tr spry:repeat="ds2" spry:setrow="ds2">
    <td height="53" class="event">{Date2}<span
    class="eventhide">{Date1}</span></td>
    <td class="event">{Type}</td>
    <td class="event">{Title}</td>
    <td class="event">{Venue}</td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </div>
    </div>
    It seems to be working for the moment...

  • Today's date in mm-dd-yyyy format

    Hi,
    The default date format in my case is yyyy-dd-mm. I want to pass today's date in the format mm-dd-yyyy to a FM in R3. I have gone through many threads but most talk about changing the format from date to string and vice-versa. Others say that we can pass the date in any format and R3 would take care of that. But in my case, these solutions have not helped. I tried converting todays date to string and then string to date in the req format using SimpleDateFormat class but it throws an exception. Would really appreciate if someone could send me a piece of code to address this issue.
    Regards,
    Prathamesh

    Hi Prathamesh,
    I have faced similar problem. Please try this simple solution. Suppose your date is in format yyyy-dd-mm. If it is in string format, then its ok, otherwise first convert it to string using toString() function as shown below. After that try using the code which I have given below. The only thing that is required to be done after that is the input parameter of your FM must be of string type. Once that is done, pass new_date as input parameter to your FM.
    <b>        String temp_date = date.toString();
         String temp_day = temp_date.substring(5,7);
         String temp_month = temp_date.substring(8,10);
         String temp_year = temp_date.substring(0,4);
         String new_date = temp_day"-"temp_month"-"temp_year;</b>
    Let me know if you have any other query.
    Bye

  • Problem with date format mask 'D'

    I am experiencing an extremely thorny problem with the date format mask ‘D’. I am trying to use it to check whether today is a Monday. The variable v_temp_day is set to sysdate. For the last 4 weeks the code has behaved erratically – giving a different result at 02:00 than at 10:30 even though it is only taking account of the date. In desperation I inserted a debug statement formatting the date in a variety of ways – with interesting results. Oracle is somehow managing to tell us that today is simultaneously Monday and Tuesday depending on which format mask you choose. Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions?

  • Convert time in miliiseconds to date format

    I have a column in my table with datatype number(38,0) , in that column i have values in form of miliseconds since 1970 e.g 1152567973042...
    i have a requirement to convert this time in milliseconds to today's date, which i can do as
    1152567973042 / 3600 / 24 / 365 == x
    1970 + x = today's date
    is there a function in oracle supporting this, or i have to customize my requirements and write a function.
    Thanks in anticipation

    Your function will not work precisely because it does not account for leap years. You should use Oracle date math. If you add a number to an Oracle date datatype, it assumes that the number is in days. Oracle will automatically account for leap years. Try this:
    DECLARE
    mydate DATE;
    milliseconds_since_1970 NUMBER(30,7);
    BEGIN
    milliseconds_since_1970 := ?;
    mydate := TO_DATE( '01-JAN-1970', 'DD-MON-YYYY') + milliseconds_since_1970/(1000*60*60*24);
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('mydate = ' || to_char( mydate, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS' ) );
    END;
    This converts your milliseconds (replace ? with the number) to days and then adds the days to January 1, 1970. The result is an Oracle date datatype adjusted for leap years.
    Oracle date datatypes have hours, minutes, and seconds. Since these were not specified for 1/1/1970, they default to zero. Since milliseconds_since_1970 has 7 decimal places, it will contain fractional days which Oracle converts to hours, minutes, and seconds.
    I'm not sure what format Oracle stores date datatypes in. You have to convert them with a format string every time you use them.

  • Date format in Master Folder not consistent

    Tonight, I found some old cell phone pics from 2 years ago sitting in a folder on my desktop (was never imported to iphoto). So I went ahead and imported them. In iphoto, the newly imported old pics went to the correct locations (amongst the 2009 photos). That's great. But, when I go to those photos and hit "reveal in finder," I notice that the original files have been copied into today's folder, as if the pictures were just taken today. I was hoping they would go into the folders from 2 years ago where they belong. What gives?
    Also, I don't know why, but the date format in my Master Folder just got screwy. When I do column view, one column will only have the years. So for 2011, it says I have 24 folders. Of those 24 folders belonging to 2011, 23 of them have actual dates as their name (eg: "July 26, 2011" or "February 16, 2011"). However, one lonely folder simply has "08" (meaning "August"), and when I click on it, it reveals the dates of the month within August 2011 as separate folders, so folders with digits for names indicating the date of import (eg: "18" or "23" or "25"). So those cell phone pics from 2 years ago that I just imported today are showing up in the folder reflecting today's date. Again, what gives???

    There is no correlation between the placing of files on the HD and the Events in the iPhoto Window and there hasn't been for three versions of iPhoto now.
    There is no support for user acess of the files within the Library Package. It's not designed for that. There's also no need for it. See below for more.
    FWIW, current versions of iPhoto use folders based on the date and time of import. Some earlier versions based it on the date and time of the photos. Even earlier versions used date and time of import.
    Simple tip: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things,, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    (Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
    You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
    For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
    Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
    b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Prompt window Issues-resize and date format setting to 'mm/dd/yyyy' .

    Guys,
            I have two issues which needs to be solved for better reporting.
            I am using url reporting approach to view reports in ActiveX viewer.
            1) I have to set date format to 'mm/dd/yyyy' in parameter prompt window by default It is in yyyy-mm-dd format.
             2) I have to make prompt window with full size screen in order to accommodate more than one date parameter and make it looks better.
         Can any one tell me how to change and fix date format and resize Prompt window?
          Should I open a ticket with business object in order to solve or customize the Crystal Report Server XI R2 configurations for us?
        Please suggest me some probable options for it.

    Hello Adlyd,
    SAP Business Objects does not support customizing Infoview, CR Server, or BusinessObjects Enterprise.  I'll post the content of SAP Business Objects Note 1218598 below that speaks to this.  Even if they could help customize CR Server/Enterprise/Infoview there's no way to change the parameter prompting page.  It's a page that is generated at runtime, and it isn't exposed to any of the BusinessObjects SDK.
    If you want to see if SAP Business Objects can help you with the date format that might be possible.  In North America you can call 1-800-877-2340, and select option 4, and then option 1.
    You can also purchase technical support from the [Online Store|http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/DisplayProductByTypePage&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=11522300].

    Symptom
    In previous versions of Business Objects products, Business Objects Customer Support had assisted customers with the customization of the ePortfolio and InfoView applications by providing guidance on what changes were required for simple and specific custom features.
    What is the support policy for customizing BusinessObjects XI, XI Release 2, XI 3.0, XI 3.1 InfoView and the other included applications?
    Resolution
    Starting with BusinessObjects XI, code-level customization of InfoView and the other applications included with BusinessObjects XI is not supported and not recommended. These applications include Crystal Reports Explorer and the Central Management Console.
    InfoView is a fully-featured product and can be customized by changing settings in the Central Management Console or by changing values in the application configuration files only.
    Requests for custom features in InfoView or any other included applications will be treated either as enhancement requests, or in extreme cases, as product defects. Any feature that does not function as documented will be treated as a product defect.

    Too late to answer but, i have also faced this issue.
    1) Change the Language at Portal User Administration (Language to UK-English)
    2) Change the language at System Administration --> System Configuration (Language to UK-English)
    3) Change the language at Visual Admin (Language Properties)
    4) Change the Language at IE Explorer Tools -->InternetOptions --> General Data tab --> Languages button --> (Language to UK-English)
    5) In the server there is a property file where the language properties are maintained. You can change that as well.
    6) Write a Java program which collects all the users and  change the language using coding by using API
    7) Change the Language at R/3 SUO1 Screen.
    Out of all these techiniques every step has its advantages and disadvantages, I prefer Step1 is a better choice.
