Bex 3.X integrate views in Workbook

Hi,
i'd like to integrate views in one worksheet:
I have an 3.x environment.
When i go over the "folder icon" -> views i get the view in an new Excel File. When i do this again i get a second new Excel File.
When i go over the "Tool icon" -> "Insert query" i see only queries an no views.
I'd like to integrate views in one worksheet (one different tabs):
anybody an idea?

As workaround i put the same queries on different tabs.
and give the the variables on each tab different values.
Properties -> interaction -> Store variablesans reuse
This works but is not usable for the customer
I have 3 different variables. (ok the are some more but to keep it simple)
- A: date
- B: version
- C: Hierachie node of counties
I have 3 different tabs (each with the same query)
The difference is in variable C (one tab has europe, one asia and one africa)
When i push "actualise" on each tab the variables A, B and C can be edited
So on the tab with label africa you can enter europe and have disorder.
My plan is to have the variable C fix on each tab.
Then "actualise all queries" and enter the variables A: date and B: version valid for all 3 tabs.
So the variables should be entered once and all 3 queries should be actualised.
My idea was to use a view for this but all variables (A, B and C) are stored there and so this seems not to be the best idea.

  • Saved Views in workbook

    Hi,
I have a question about usage of views in workbooks.
In one of my workbbok we have a saved view insterted in the query. But what I understood from the forums is that you can open saved views if you click on the open button on BEX toolbar
But in my workbook when I am going to particular query and when I am saying refresh from the toolbar its jumping to saved view.
    How is this possible?
Because in the workbbok if I right click on the query name and say refresh it is just refresing th data .
But it is behaving diffrently when I click on the tool bar.
    Please advice
    Marks will be awarded.
    Thank you

It depends on what you're doing.  If you want to only refresh the workbook, you must click anywhere on the query itself before hitting the refresh button.  If you want to refresh the saved view only, then you must click on the saved view before selecting the refresh button.  If not, everything will be refreshed.  Hope this helps.

  • How to view all workbooks in a Business Area? (4i)

Discoverer 4i, Using Desktop Admin and Desktop Client.
I've got a user set in the Admin layer as:
Security -> Assigned to the Business Area and set as 'Allow Administration'
Privileges -> All 'User' and 'Administration' options ticked
When I log in with this user to the Desktop Client and go on to any responsibility I see no workbooks (or only workbooks that are created/shared to the user or chosen responsibility).
It was my understanding that when a user is set as a Business Area Administrator and has all the Admin privileges they should be able to view all workbooks? I've certainly see this functionality in the past although I'm not sure if this was a Disco 10g function.
Thanks in advanced for any responses,
    Tim

Official answer from ODM on Metalink:
"+The behaviour you see is expected behaviour for all Discoverer releases from ver 3i to 11g . Only the owner of the workbook can see the workbook or can share the workbook to other users . Any other user (with or without Discoverer admin priviliges) is not able to see / manage the non-owning workbooks.+"
    I.e. this can't be done...

  • Diffrance between saved views and workbooks

    Hello Friends,
    Good Morning ..
Could any one please tell me what is the diff between saved view and Workbooks. .?
It will be nice help for me.
    Thanks .

    Hi Jain,
Do not know if your question is already answered.  Let me give you my thoughts on this subject ... start with what is a query.
A query definition is saved on the server. Never anywhere else.
Although people say a workbook contains a query (or several queries); it does not. It contains a reference to a query. The workbook can be saved on the server; or anywhere else that you might save an Excel workbook.
What happens if someone changes the query definition on the server? Answer: the next time you refresh the query in the Excel workbook, the new query definition replaces the old query definition in the workbook. Maybe. It depends on what change was made.
For example, if someone added a Condition to the query definition, the workbook will be virtually invisible to this. The Condition is available; but, is not implemented in the workbook. (Until the user of the workbook manually adds the view of the Condition and then activates it.)
For example, if someone changed the definition of a KF in the query definition, the revised KF will show up in place of the old KF in the workbook.
But ... if, for example, someone deleted the old KF and added a new KF, we get a different story. Now the old KF no longer appears (it does not exist); but, the new KF does not appear (it was not marked to be visible in the workbook).
About workbooks as views ... OK, a workbook may very well have a certain "view" of the query (drilldown, filters, et cetera). And, if the workbook is saved to the server in a Role where everyone can access it, this is good. But, if the workbook is saved to one's favorites, then this "view" is only accessible to that individual. Which may be good. Or may not.
A "saved view", on the other hand is stored on the server. So, it is available to all.
If you navigate in a workbook you can back up. You can back up, though, only as far as you navigated in the current session. You cannot back up to where you were in the middle of last week's session. Unless you saved that navigation state as a "saved view". Then, you can jump to that view at any time.
The downside of saved views is that they are easy for anyone to set up and difficult for most to delete.

  • Views in Workbook - Urgent.

    Hi,
Could any one of you please help me in resolving below issue?
When the users open the reports in the production environment and try to create and save the VIEWS by clicking on "save view as jump target",they should not be able to do so..i.e. access is restricted(Message should be displayed that authorization is restricted.
But when the users save the same workbook by clicking "SAVE AS new workbook" in FAVORITES section of BEX and now they should be able to create the VIEWS by clicking "Save views as jump target"..ie the authorization should be enabled for the users to create the VIEWS in Favorites section of BEX but not in the production environment.
Please do let me know if it can be done like this as this requirement needs to be implemented at the earliest.
    Many thanks.

    I believe that
You neeed to use authorization object S_USER_AGR, and give activity 03 to the role you want to protect for end users.
A key user allowed to modify workbooks on that role should have an * on activity.
Also make sure that all your users have these authorization objects with these values:
    S_BDS_D Activity 03
    S_BDS_DS Activity 01, 02, 03, 30
    OT
    S_USER_TCD *
If this doesn't help you let me know, or if you have found a better solution.

  • BI-IP - Bex Analyser - Adding colums / rows in workbooks

    Hi experts,
In BI-IP (BW 7) in Bex Analyser we are facing the following problem:
In the workbook if the user inserts a column nearby the input ready columns and inputs values at the time of transfer / save values, the system automatically copies these values to the next input column. The same if they insert rows and add values, at the time of transfer values the system deletes the row but adds the values in the above row.
Is it how Bex Analyser (workbook) works or we are having a problem?
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi Maria,
Please do not take it offesive.
The issue you guys are encountering is due to lack of Training to Users.
Planning is an intelligent activity. Planners are expected to do their home work before they embark on planning and layouts help capturing values in an orderly manner.
It would be wonderful if you restrict the access to queries, else train the users on the impact and relevance.
As you are aware adding a row is possible in WAD.

  • Reg View of Workbook

    Hi all,
I have formatted a query  view ( By changing Fonts/column width etc ) and saved as workbook in your favorites in the Browser.
When we execute the workbook thru the browser we get the format that has been saved. However, we loose the format when you click the Refresh Button.  My question is
How to set permanent settings so that formatting remains same as has been designed in the workbook?
    regards
    sirisha

    hi ,
A part of i accept mathew words...adding to that i guess this procedure will help....
In Excel using BW, you have to categorize as 2 different types of cells.
You have "Excel" Cells and "BW" Cells.  You can determine which you are in by selecting a cell and right mouse clicking.  If you get the BW options (Drilldown, Swap, Insert.....) then you are in a BW Cell.  If you get the standard (Cut, Copy, Paste) you are in the Excel Cells.
If you are formatting an Excel Cell, Format using the option from the Excel Menu.  If it is a BW Cell, Format using the option from the BW Toolbar (5th button from right).
When you refresh you will retain your settings.
Also, as a hint,  you don't have to select all of your BW cells when formatting.  Select a characteristic and format using the BW toolbar and all characteristics will format.  Same goes for key figures, Free characteristics etc.
BW uses the "BW Style Tool"to format.  For more detail and customization follow the below steps:
    1. Download OSS Note #300570.
    2. On your machine
Find / Execute SAPBEXS.XLA -> Click Enable Macros.

    Hello Carsten,
    Try to use Workbook compression:
      -  Open the specific workbook in BEx Analyzer
      -  Open Workbook Settings dailog
      -  Check "Use Optimized Storage"
      -  Click on OK Button
      -  Save the workbook
But also, your front end tools are on a very old version.
I would like to recommend you to install the latest patch of SAPGUI 7.20 and Business Explore 7.20.
Front End Version 7.10 will be supported until April 2011.
But, if you want to continue using 7.10, update to latest patch:

  • Bex Default template for Queries and Workbooks

    Dear All,
We have a default template for all queries and workbooks. But this default template was created using a AP query and saved as a workbook. Now all the users having AR role are not able to execute queries or workbooks.Since this default template has a AP info provider associated with it.Is it possible convert this default workbook to a generic one without any security restrictions. Please provide a solution.

In Bex analyzer, you have option to convert a template into a default template.
Or you can create a copy of the existing template without AP infoproviders and assign it as default template.

  • BEx 7.0 - Save EXCEL 2007 workbooks in .XLS - format

    Hi there,
I am currently creating some workbooks with BEx 7.0 .
I am using Excel2007, so the workbooks are saved as .XLSM files. However, it should be possible to open them with an Excel 2003 installation as well, so I tried to safe the workbooks as .XLS files.
I tried to proceed according to SAP OSS note 1052761 (changing the default format in which workbooks are saved to Excel 97 - 2003), but this did not work (the note also only aplies to BEX 3.5).
(I tried saving an old workbook under a new name as well as creating a new workbook from scratch. In both cases, .XLSM files where created and EXCEL 2003 users received error messages when trying to open the workbook).
Does anyone have a piece of advice for me?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Create views for Workbook

    Hello,
I need to create a workbook which has the same row and key figures but each tab should have different countries.
    a. Should I create three different queries restricting each query to the country I need to display
    or
    b. Can I create different views out of the same query?
                - If so, how can I create query views and insert them into my workbook.
Taking performance into consideration,  which method is the best.
All feedback is appreciated with points:)
    Thanks for your help.
    Please send your comments

creating three different queries is a better option.
View is a navigational state of the query and when you do not need all the data, it makes no sense to get all the data from the infoprovider and then restrict it.

  • Query Views on Workbook - filter doesnt work

    Hi All,
I have developed a workbook using a query view, When i try to do filtering using the filter button the workbook data does'nt change. Can anyone of you advise what needs to be done.
    Thanking you.

    HI Rohith,
    Thanks for the quick response.
I tried out what you have mentioned, it didnt work. query view is inserted into a data grid and created the workbook. Filter funtionality is available and its currently working during variable value entry. Once the report is generated filter doesnt work.
    any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Swith between query views in workbook

    Hi,
Is there a way to switch between two or more query views in a workbook.
    I'm in 7.0 analyser.
    Thanks in advance.
    Prakash C

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I will explain the issue again so please tell me the process we are following is correct or not?
Last month we created views for two queries and attched them in the workbook, the variable values which we have given at that time were month = 01 year 2010.
This month when we try to access the workbooks we are getting 0 records in the views of the workbook.
    now my doubt is:
If we create views for variable values month jan and year 2010, will they show output when we change the variable values to Feb, 2010?
    or
Do we have to create new views every month and attach them to the existing workbook manually?
    PLease revert.
    Thanks

  • Discoverer Viewer & Scheduled Workbooks

Is it possible to run a scheduled a workbook and view the results in Discoverer Viewer?

    Hi Tim
Well just the way the file is put together, like is it using SID= or SERVER=, does it use SERVER=DEDICATED, do you have one ADDRESS= or multiple?
To make sure everything is right, rename both TNSNAMES and SQLNET.ORA files, then suse Net Configuration Assistant to set up a connection. Then compare that with what you have already and make the necessary changes.
I also noticed that Russ has made a posting concerning a similar error. You should take a look. Its either in here on the Discoverer forum.
    Best wishes
