Saved Views in workbook

Hi,
I have a question about usage of views in workbooks.
In one of my workbbok we have a saved view insterted in the query. But what I understood from the forums is that you can open saved views if you click on the open button on BEX toolbar
But in my workbook when I am going to particular query and when I am saying refresh from the toolbar its jumping to saved view.
How is this possible?
Because in the workbbok if I right click on the query name and say refresh it is just refresing th data .
But it is behaving diffrently when I click on the tool bar.
Please advice
Marks will be awarded.
Thank you

It depends on what you're doing.  If you want to only refresh the workbook, you must click anywhere on the query itself before hitting the refresh button.  If you want to refresh the saved view only, then you must click on the saved view before selecting the refresh button.  If not, everything will be refreshed.  Hope this helps.

  • Diffrance between saved views and workbooks

    Hello Friends,
    Good Morning ..
Could any one please tell me what is the diff between saved view and Workbooks. .?
It will be nice help for me.
    Thanks .

    Hi Jain,
Do not know if your question is already answered.  Let me give you my thoughts on this subject ... start with what is a query.
A query definition is saved on the server. Never anywhere else.
Although people say a workbook contains a query (or several queries); it does not. It contains a reference to a query. The workbook can be saved on the server; or anywhere else that you might save an Excel workbook.
What happens if someone changes the query definition on the server? Answer: the next time you refresh the query in the Excel workbook, the new query definition replaces the old query definition in the workbook. Maybe. It depends on what change was made.
For example, if someone added a Condition to the query definition, the workbook will be virtually invisible to this. The Condition is available; but, is not implemented in the workbook. (Until the user of the workbook manually adds the view of the Condition and then activates it.)
For example, if someone changed the definition of a KF in the query definition, the revised KF will show up in place of the old KF in the workbook.
But ... if, for example, someone deleted the old KF and added a new KF, we get a different story. Now the old KF no longer appears (it does not exist); but, the new KF does not appear (it was not marked to be visible in the workbook).
About workbooks as views ... OK, a workbook may very well have a certain "view" of the query (drilldown, filters, et cetera). And, if the workbook is saved to the server in a Role where everyone can access it, this is good. But, if the workbook is saved to one's favorites, then this "view" is only accessible to that individual. Which may be good. Or may not.
A "saved view", on the other hand is stored on the server. So, it is available to all.
If you navigate in a workbook you can back up. You can back up, though, only as far as you navigated in the current session. You cannot back up to where you were in the middle of last week's session. Unless you saved that navigation state as a "saved view". Then, you can jump to that view at any time.
The downside of saved views is that they are easy for anyone to set up and difficult for most to delete.

  • How to view all workbooks in a Business Area? (4i)

Discoverer 4i, Using Desktop Admin and Desktop Client.
I've got a user set in the Admin layer as:
Security -> Assigned to the Business Area and set as 'Allow Administration'
Privileges -> All 'User' and 'Administration' options ticked
When I log in with this user to the Desktop Client and go on to any responsibility I see no workbooks (or only workbooks that are created/shared to the user or chosen responsibility).
It was my understanding that when a user is set as a Business Area Administrator and has all the Admin privileges they should be able to view all workbooks? I've certainly see this functionality in the past although I'm not sure if this was a Disco 10g function.
Thanks in advanced for any responses,
    Tim

Official answer from ODM on Metalink:
"+The behaviour you see is expected behaviour for all Discoverer releases from ver 3i to 11g . Only the owner of the workbook can see the workbook or can share the workbook to other users . Any other user (with or without Discoverer admin priviliges) is not able to see / manage the non-owning workbooks.+"
    I.e. this can't be done...

  • Download of saved views of an interactive report

    Hi all
When I am on a saved view of an interactive report and choose 'Download', I always get the data of the actual worksheet but not that form the saved report.
Has anyone a solution of this problem?
    best regards
    Gerhild

    Hi Dan
that posting contains a good deal of information about REPORT_ID of an IR on rebuild environment or updating application, but nothing about saving IRs to file.
But in the meantime I detect the following issues:
    1. using the Repot Id Item of Advanced Attributes, you get the behavior I had described above.
    2. if you keep Repot Id Itemr of Advanced Attributes clean, the current view of the IR is downloaded to the file.
    3. Therfore I thing, that the given REPORT_ID in the Item set in Repot Id Item of Advanced Attributes is only saved once, when loading the page, but not when the current view is changed by asynchronous javascripts (AJAX function apex.worksheet.ws.pull). But the funktion for downloading data of IR (apex.worksheet.ws.download ? - body of function is emty) uses the content of that item obviously.
I had a look at that scripts, but don't found the link between a variable of javascript and the Repot Id Item. For this reason I wasn't able to check this by eding the javascript of APEX; but I think this will be the only way to get the expected behavior.
    Best regards

  • How to restrict saving changes in workbooks?

    Hi,
I would like to restrict saving of changes workbooks.
I don't know the authorization object that I need blocked.
    Can You Help me
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Assuming that these workbooks belong to a particular role, you need to endure that the users do not have maintenance ability for this role (that holds the workbooks).
You can see here for details on setting up these roles:

  • Can you download a FormsCentral response as a pdf without having non-selected skip logic rules saved/viewed?

Can you download a FormsCentral response as a pdf without having non-selected skip logic rules saved/viewed?

    Hi,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to convert the response to pdf without the non-selected fields.
As a workaround, you can hide a particular column and then convert the response to pdf.

  • Saved Views on Query

We are running queries through the Portal . On one query we have a number of saved views, and the last view that we created we would like to use as the default view for the query
How do you set / determine the default view that a query is using?

Right click and delete when you're in the "open" dialog in Analyzer.

  • VS2012 Saving views issue

I have an odd issue with saving views in Server Explorer in VS 2012.
If I only select columns from the database tables I can add/remove columns and save the view.
If I add a calculated column I can save that view one time only, any subsequent changes to the view will not be saved but only as long as
any calculated column remains in the view design. It means that I have to copy the SQL, close Visual Studio, then re-open, past back the SQL to be able to subsequently save any view with calculated columns.
I did not get this in VS 2008
The below view will save one time only, take out the QuantityInStock calculation the view will be able to be changed and saved normally.
    SELECT        TOP (100) PERCENT Floyd.dbo.StockItem.Code, Floyd.dbo.StockItem.Name, Floyd.dbo.StockItem.Description, Floyd.dbo.StockItem.ProductGroupID,
                             Floyd.dbo.Warehouse.Name AS Depot,
                             CAST(Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem.ConfirmedQtyInStock + Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem.UnconfirmedQtyInStock - Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem.QuantityAllocatedStock
    AS NUMERIC(36,
                              0)) AS QuantityInStock, Floyd.dbo.StockItem.CommodityCode, Floyd.dbo.StockItem.Weight, Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem.DateOfLastSale,
                             Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem.DateOfLastStockCount
    FROM            Floyd.dbo.StockItem INNER JOIN
                             Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem ON Floyd.dbo.StockItem.ItemID = Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem.ItemID INNER JOIN
                             Floyd.dbo.Warehouse ON Floyd.dbo.WarehouseItem.WarehouseID = Floyd.dbo.Warehouse.WarehouseID
    ORDER BY Floyd.dbo.StockItem.Code

    Hello,
    Sorry for delay.
Did you try to specify "Is Persisted" property to 'Yes' in the Column Properties tab within Table Designer? the property allows us to save the computed column with the data source.

  • Bex Saved  views not working after changes in query

    Hi Experts,
we have an issue in saved views(Bex reports.
Users execute the Bex reports and do drill downs according to their requirement and save it in their local machine.Whenever they want to do reporting they just open the saved report and do refresh which fetch the latest data from the backed system.
But as a developer we do the changes in queries(like adding extra rows or any other changes in queries without changing the row and column structure) and transport to production..
When user opens the old saved and do refresh(this will connect to SAP), it doesn't show the latest changes(extra row added in the query)
So user complains every time they have to open a fresh report and do drill downs according to the requirement.
We informed that its unavoidable, But Any idea to avoid this issue? please suggest?
    regards
    Pradeep

    Hi
Its not possible user has to execute the report freshly and have to save the views.
But there is an option if you save views in server i.e. what ever required formats that to be saved in the server whenever new changes comes then as a developer you just open that view and refresh and save it again.

  • What is the difference between Saved views and queries

    Hi all,
Just i want to know the difference between 2 options in the Bex Analyzer.  Those options are "Queries" and " Saved Views". Please check it out and let me know the difference

To add to the previous posts, saved views can also be useful when developing web templates. You can create and save one query and then save a number of views from this query, with different layouts, filters etc. web templated can then be developed using the saved views. BW 2004s introduces a whole load of standard functions to switch dataproviders in web templates. Thes can be used to switch between a number of views in a template. I have used this to present selections of key figures, switch navigation states etc.

  • Difference between saved views & workbooks

    Hello,
I still cannot see what is the technical difference between a view and a workbook. When is one used over the other? Both contains saved results.
    Pls could help enlighten.
    regards,
    Pascal

    hi kishore,
We use workbooks for excel formating, like font changes, lay out changes etc...
Workbooks into which queries are inserted are no different in appearance than other Excel workbooks.
They can be saved as files, copied, sent and (using Excel functions) edited however you like and even supplemented with other data.
Views are primarily used for BW Web Reports, it is similar to the concept of workbooks is for BEx.A local view can be accessed only within a workbook in which it was saved, where as a global view can be accessed globally in the system, it is not attached to a workbook. Only Global view can be used in BW Web Templates.
