Bex Analyzer 7 API
Hi all,
I am still looking for a way to use Excel VBA language to remote control the report (query) in Excel.
In Bex 3.x I could do it by help of the API to set filter and variable values.
The API Prakash has described in his blog does not work properly for all functions.
I found out that all results of navigational steps or filter values or variable settings are written into the Script file on hidden Repository sheet.
When using ALT+ F11 you can see the hidden sheet and by help of ALT SHIFT F11 I enter the Script editor.
Here you can listen the repository sheet information and you can find all information in the <XML>
string.
I tried to change the settings but no real result because Excel stalls afterwards.
Anybody in this forum who has an idea how to use VBA to set variable values or drill states by help of the BEx 7 environment.
Anther idea could be to use the button procedures of the design toolbar.
Is there any documentation how to set variable values by this buttons or how to set drill states like horizontal or vertical.
Any help is appreciated
TIA
Joerg
Hello,
Ok... In order to open Workbooks on Excel 2007 AND 2003, please check the two notes below:
1339061 and 1267924
Also, regarding the problem experienced, update the Front End tools to Latest Version-Patch.
This will fix the issue.
Check note "1091323 - Where to find a NetWeaver BW/BI 7.x Frontend Patch SP"
Good luck...

Dear BI fans,
We are now playing with the Bex-Analyzer and we try to see how much we can do to make our reports as user friendly as possible.
To do this we would like to define some buttons to trigger some commands/ commands sequences².
We have been able to use the commands that the command wizard offers in the Bex-analyzer but by checking the documentation we saw that it should be possible to use all the Dataprovider specific commands available in the Web API (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/e3/e60138fede083de10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm).
We tried many of them like DRILL_DOWN, REMOVE_DRILL_DOWN but without any success... We probably make some error in the syntax..
Does anybody have an example of such command working in the Bex-Analyzer?
Any help would be appreciate
Best regards,
RodolpheDear srikant,
Many thanks for the info... But we had already that document - anything about other commands? Like DRILL_DOWN, REMOVE_DRILL_DOWN, SET_SELECTION_STATE...
Best regards,
Rodolphe -
BEx Analyzer 7.1 Issue after upgrade to MS Office 2007
Hi
We upgraded MS Office 2003 to 2007 and installed SAP GUI 7.10 (Patch 9). The OS is Windows XP (SP3).
We have also applied "BI AddOn Patch for GUI 7.10"
When we run BEx Analyser from Windows start menu or RRMX , we notice the error message: "A critical program error occurred. The program has to close. Please refer to the trace for further information".

BEx Analyzer BW 7 BExAPI class BExDimensions
Question for vba-freaks: we created a workbook allowing the user to toggle between calmonth and calquarter infoobject in the row dimension of the underlying BEx 7 queries by calling the "exchange" function of the webapi (to reduce/expand the amount of data displayed in charts for infrastructure projects in the energy sector running from a few months to several years).
How can I display in the workbook which Infoobject is currently selected in the row-dimension? I didn't find a SAPBEX-function retrieving that information. Browsing the BExAPI I found the class BExDimensions that looked quite reasonable. Unfortunately calling that class in VBA with code like
public bexdimensions as object
set bexdimensions = CreateObject("com.sap.bi.et.analyzer.api.BExDimensions")
didn't work. Maybe I need a parent object, but unfortunately the documentation is "non-existent". All coding examples for accessing the BExAPI I found in SDN demonstrated using class BExApplication with coding like
public o as object
set o = CreateObject("com.sap.bi.et.analyzer.api.BExApplication")
That's working. Any help / insights?
Thanks a lot
KlausHello Klaus,
I'm at the same point. Even this thread is almost 2 yrs old, could you please let me know if you found an answer?
Any help is much appreciated!

SAP BEX Analyzer Set values for variables
Please help us out in sorting out this problem,
We are automating BEx Analyzer for a Testing Project with Quick Test Professional (QTP) a functional automation tool uses VB script.
Problem:
There are 5 steps in automation
Invoke BEx Application
Log in to BEx server
Run Query
Set values for Variables for Query
Display Report
We are able to do 1,2,3 steps using BEx API functions and running BEx macros but we struck up with 4th step,
1. Invoke BEx Application
Launch Excel
Dim app
Set app = createobject("Excel.Application")
Make it visible
app.Visible = true
Attach add-in to Excel file
app.Run ("'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'!SetStart")
2. Log in to BEx server
Login to Bex server
Function logonToBW(app)
Dim myConnection
Dim logonToBW2
On Error Resume Next
logonToBW2 = True
' Create logon to system with following user and system details
Set myConnection = app.Run ("'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'! SAPBEXgetConnection")
With myConnection
.client = "600"
.User = "USERNAME"
.Password = "Welcom123"
.Language = "en"
.systemnumber = "00"
.System = "BWDCLNT600"
.systemid = "BWD"
.ApplicationServer = "156.158.7.161"
.SAProuter = ""
.Logon 0, true
If .IsConnected = 0 Then
.Logon 0, False
If .IsConnected <> 1 Then
MsgBox "Automatic logon failed. Please enter your username and password in the next screen ..."
Exit Function
End If
End If
End With
' Run connection query to see if connected
app.Run ("'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'!SAPBEXinitConnection")
logonToBW2 = True
End Function
3. Run a Query
app.Run "'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'! runQuery", "ZZCCA3_M01_Q0003"
Till here the script is running fine then the Select values for Variables window is displayed.
This is where exactly we struck up; in this window we need to select values.
Name of the Fields
Field Name Technical name of characteristic Variable Name Value
1 Company Code 0COMP_CODE ZM_COMPCODE 1000
2 Cost Center Hierarchy 0COSTCENTER ZS_CCTRN 1000MDON
3 Cost Center Node 0COSTCENTER ZS_CCTRN 1000COP
4 Cost Element 0COSTELEMENT ZS_COELN 1000GDON_6999
5 Fiscal Year 0FISCYEAR 0P_FYEAR 2007
To select values for variables, we are trying below code but its giving an error,
app.Run "'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'!SAPBEXSetFilterValue", 1000, "0COMP_CODE"
app.Run "'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'!SAPBEXSetFilterValue", 1000MDON, " 0COSTCENTER "
app.Run "'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'!SAPBEXSetFilterValue", 1000COP, "0COSTCENTER"
app.Run "'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'!SAPBEXSetFilterValue", 1000GDON_6999, "0COSTELEMENT "
app.Run "'C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI\BExAnalyzer.xla'!SAPBEXSetFilterValue", 2007, " 0FISCYEAR"
Any help highly appreciated, thanks in advance.Hi Reinhard,

Using button control in BEx Analyzer to filter on multiple items
I'm trying to create a button control in BEx Analyzer to duplicate the following command:
DATA_PROVIDER=*&FILTER_IOBJNM_1=<StructureID>&FILTER_IOBJNM_2=<StructureID>&FILTER_IOBJNM_3=<StructureID>&FILTER_VALUE_1=<Item1>&FILTER_VALUE_2=<Item2>&FILTER_VALUE_3=<Item3>&MULTI=X
where <StructureID> is the technical name (the 25-character alphanumberic string) of the structure I want to filter on, and the three items within the structure have technical names <Item1>, <Item2>, and <Item3>. This command works fine on the web, but when I set up a button in BEx Analyzer with the following attributes, it only filters on one item:
Name Index Value
CMD 1 SET_FILTER
DATA_PROVIDER 1 DP_1
FILTER_IOBJNM 1 <StructureID>
FILTER_VALUE 1 <Item1>
CMD 2 SET_FILTER
DATA_PROVIDER 2 DP_1
FILTER_IOBJNM 2 <StructureID>
FILTER_VALUE 2 <Item2>
CMD 3 SET_FILTER
DATA_PROVIDER 3 DP_1
FILTER_IOBJNM 3 <StructureID>
FILTER_VALUE 3 <Item3>
Any ideas?
Thanks,
JasonJason,
thank you for the information. This morning I found out myself by checking the 3.5 Web API Reference which basically offers everything I need.
To facilitate data entry you could try using a reference command area somewhere in your excel sheet where you can easily enter the command data and also can make use of copy/paste. I tried this and it works fine - much better than to enter the values in the dialogue.
Best regards
Thomas -
Hi,
I have been able to use the commands that the command wizard offers in the Bex-analyzer but by checking the documentation I saw that it should be possible to use all the Dataprovider specific commands available in the Web API (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/e3/e60138fede083de10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm).
But it seems that you have to address them differently, e.g. SWAP_AXES does not work.
How do I use these commands in the Bex Analyzer?
Kind regards,

Hello. I saw several posts with a "Critical program error" message in new BEx Analyzer 7.0 when try to run query ir workbook, but have not seen any answers to them.
When I look into the trace file BexAnalyzerTrace_<session_id>.txt (attached) in my temp directory, I see following:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: File or assembly name BExCompression, or one of its dependencies, was not found.
File name: "BExCompression"
at com.sap.bi.et.analyzer.api.BExApplication.DeSerializeApplication(String iString)

But I cannot find any further reference to BExCompression.
Thanks!

Difference between bexbrowser and Bex analyzer
Hi,
can any body tell me what is the difference between bex browser and bex analyzer and how end users will access the reports and how they access SAP.Hi
*BEx Web Analyzer *
The BEx Web Analyzer is a standalone, convenient Web application for data analysis that you can call using a URL or as an iView in the portal.
The Web Analyzer allows you to execute ad hoc analyses on the Web: When you have selected a data provider (query, query view, InfoProvider, external data source), the data is displayed in a table with a navigation pane. You can navigate to the data and use other Web Analyzer functions available in the application toolbar. For example, you can change the type of data display, use the information broadcasting functions to broadcast your analyses to others, and create printable versions of your analyses.
In the Web Analyzer, you can save the data view generated from navigation and analysis as a query view by choosing Save View in the context menu, and you can save the ad hoc analysis by choosing Save As. When the query view is saved, only the data view is saved; when the ad hoc analysis is saved, the entire Web application is saved, including the properties of Web items and the layout of the data.

Bex Browser
The Business Explorer Browser (BEx Browser) makes it possible for you to access all document types of the Business Information Warehouse that are assigned to your role or that you have stored in your favorites. You can select and open documents assigned to you in the BEx Browser or store and manage new documents in the BEx Browser.
Document types that you can work with in the BEx Browser are:
· BW workbooks
· Documents that are stored in the Business Document Service (BDS)
· Links (references to file system, shortcuts)
· Links to internet sites (URLs)
· SAP transaction calls.
· Web applications and Web templates
· Crystal Reports

Difference between Bex Analyzer and Bex WAD
Hi Every one,
I am pretty new to SAP, and working on SAP BW Front end.
I am pretty aware of Bex Analyzer and also Browser, but i always have a doubt about Bex WAD.
In my present job i talk to the users and take the requirments and create queries in the Bex analyzer which i am comfortable doing it.
I also know all the features of Analyzer and created quries and also published it on web, and also created workbooks and inserting multiple quries in the workbook etc etc..
However i have zero knowledge on WAD and how it is useful to me, and as if now i haven't got any requirment from the client for me to create any report in WAD or do some thing in WAD.
I have gone through SAP SDN help etc but i am not understanding it at all.
So can any one explain me in a laymans terms what WAD is and how it will be useful to me?
and also if possible send me link which has got PDF screen shots of what WAD is?
Points is for sure.
Regards,
RamRaj,
Thanks for the reply, but i still did not get the understanding about WAD. i have studied the link which you sent me.
I am still not able to understand how it is helpful for people like me,
See i create my report in Query designer, and i can execute the query in Analyser. and if i want i can execute it in the Web from my query designer, and also i can create chart on the web if i want.And i can Broadcaste it in the Web.
and also if i want i can create it in the workbook and create chart in that work book.
Then what is the point of Web Application Designer (WAD).
See i have created the Query in Designer in Development say Sales report Query on the infoprovider for SD, now what should i do with it in WAD.
How can i get it in WAD, i went to start> all Programs>Bex> WAD and i logged in to development and a sereen opend. And from here what i can do, i mean how can i open my created query in WAD?
As you guys know i am new to SAP itself, but i dont see any advantage about WAD, i read all the articals and there i found that i can create Web Items, HTML etc etc, but i already have HTML, when i execute my query from the Designer i get it in Web Browser...
See my question is simple, i have a query which i have created in the Query Designer, now how can i get it to WAD and after getting it what can i do with it??
If any one has a screen shots of there pls send me.
And Sanjeev has sent me a PDF which i saw earlear and i done the same in my WAD but i am not about to get it to work.
I have given the points to every one but still what i need i did not get yet.
Regards,
Ram

Creating subtitles in Chinese...
Hi, I need to put in Chinese subtitles to my project; I figure the best way to do that is by having the translator send me a text file. If they send it to me as Microsoft Word document, should that open up OK in TextEdit? Thanks!

Generic sort algorithim multiple data types
How would I create a method to sort any type of data type given. Would I have to overload the method and rewrite the algorithim for each data type. This seems redundant. Could I use an interface somehow. I am clueless. I know you can do this in c++ u
