BEx Query Slower in Hana?

We are in the process of upgrading our BW system to Hana and after some testing on our test hana system we've noticed that one of our queries is taking double the time to run than it does currently on our production system which runs with accelerator.  Has anyone had any issues during their hana upgrading stages ran into queries that took longer to run than it did in a BWA system?

Hana has inside differents engines that make the calculations on each step of the procces to obtain and show information.
SAP says that you can migrate your current BW content to hana, but in order to get performance improvements, is needed to tune the query bex. Because is possible to have a problems like this.
you need to see where is the bottleneck and attack it.
consider this:
1) Delegate all the calculations to the database level.
2) apply filters in the database level
3) only transfer results (see if you are having issues in your network)
4) what Hana database version are you using with? Investigate if you are using a new HDB system.
5) Hana has several traces inside that you can enable and investigate. look for some information and try to use it.
hope it helps.

  • Bex Query using BICS running fine in Rich client but v. slow in Launchpad

    Hi guys,
At my client client we are using BICS to use Bex Query in Web Intellience, and i created a report that takes less than 10 seconds once run in Rich client but when i create the same Webi report in Launch pad: the list of values take forever to refesh and the report runs for about 30 mins before it displays data..
In both cases it shows data but the time difference is huge.
Kindly direct me on what could be the possible issues considering this case.
    Regards,
    Sheikh

    Hi Sheikh,
There are some known issues with the BICS connectivity and LOV's when retreiving data in BI4.0
This is detailed in the note - 1581323 - BI 4.0 Web Intelligence very slow performance when using BICS
Basically there are some registry changes which need to be made to result in quicker data retreival. The full fix is scheduled for Patch 2.1. It may not be your precise issue but the registry change should help I believe.
Can you test with the registry fix and let me know if this improves matters for you:
    Resolution
The following fix is planned for Patch2.1 (w/c 27th June 2011):
Add 2 new registry entries (string keys) under
For the 32-bit using Rich Client: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\default\WebIntelligence\Calculator]:
            For the 64-bit Web Intelligence:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\default\WebIntelligence\Calculator]
    "BICSLOVChunkSize"="4000"
    "BICSResultChunkSize"="100000"
Note 1: In a specific test case, a value of 4000 yielded good results, reducing fetch time from 20 minutes to under 5 minutes.
    Note 2: Registry key usage:
BICSLOVChunkSize is defined as a string. It help create a chunk of List of Value of maximum the number given. The bigger the number the more likely the retrieval of the list of value will crash. Consider using a value between 100 and 5000. If you have 1000 values in your database and you set the BICSLOVChunkSize to 200. Then you will see a hierarchical view of 5 groups having eah 200 list of value.
BICSResultChunkSize is defined as a string. It limits the number of results that can be retrieved as a List of Value. If you have a List of Value which contains 1 Millions values and set the BICSResultChunkSize to 1000 than only the first 1000 rows will be retrieved. Therefore you will get a partial result set for the list of value.
    Parallel correction for interoperability:
A parallel fix has been delivered via component BW-BEX-OT-BICS by way of a correction attached to Note 1593802.
    Workaround:
Set all the values of column u201COrder for F4 Helpu201D to 0 (zero) in BW Transaction RSD1 so that the attributes are not retrieved.
-> List of members are now displayed in 20 seconds.
I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.
    Kind regards,
    John

  • Business Objects Explorer  on bex query on HANA

    Hi BI/BW/BO experts
if we implement BW on HANA, and run bex queries.
What are the pros and epecially the cons for running BO explorer.
Can Explorer connect to a bex query?
    What about iput variables ?
Can the bex query connect to multiproviders?
Does it run on IOS ?
Does it run on Android ?
    Hope for a clarifying answer.
    (These things changes so fast)
    very best regards
    Ingrid

    Hi Ingrid,
We can create information space over BWA and here is the steps;-
Login to BW system from SAP GUI.
    Run T-code RSDDB.
    Click Query as InfoProvider button.
Select one BEx query and click Release Query as InfoProvider menu.
    Click Create button.
Click Activate and Fill BWA Index and select Immediate > Save.
Run T-code /nRSDDTPS. Find the BEx query.
Right click it and select Create... menu.
    Click Yes from prompted dialog.
Enter User name and select "0BI_ALL" as BW Authoriz.
Click Activate menu and select Immediate > Save.
    Run T-code /nTrexAdmin.
Select Program > Get BIA Rfc Destination and click Execute button.
=>You can find hostname of BWA system and trex instance number in Location field.
    =>It is generally formated as "<host>:3<instance number>##".
Use the two information to enable Business Warehouse Accelerator to BusinessObjects Explorer by referring KBA 1618815.
Login to Explorer 4.0 and click Manage Spaces menu.
Find the BEx query and click New button.
You can connect bex query to multiprovider through JCO connection from IDT.
    Hope this helps

  • Dashboard to BEx query call run time very slow (7-8 mins)

    Hi Guys,
I am currently working on a project where BEx query is being consumed using BICS. The functional team has built a BEx which is being cached in Webi by the BO developer and then that cashed Webi is being used in Dashboard. We have many hierarchies (Fund Center, Profit Center, GL Account etc.) used in the dashboard.
BEx query > WEBi (Cached) > Dashboard
Clicking the main level in hierarchy in dashboard the data comes back in 2-3 secs as the data is cached in Webi
ISSUE: In Dashboard based on where user is on the Fund Center hierarchy there is a button called “Summary Report” on the dashboard which calls the BEx query and that second call takes roughly about 7-8 minutes. How could we reduce the run time of the second query?
The secondary query uses the same data set as the first one but as the data is cached in Webi and it uses Web services to pass data to dashboard, so any call back from dashboard to the cached webi the hierarchy information is lost  and thus the secondary query call to BEx query.
Would it be possible to recommend any solution where we could bring the run time of the secondary call to less than a minute?
    Thanks,

  • Performance Issue Executing a BEx Query in Crystal Report E 4.0

    Dear Forum
I'm working for a customer with big performance issue Executing a BEx Query in Crystal via transient universe.
When query is executed directly against BW via RSRT query returns results in under 2 seconds.
When executed in crystal, without the use of subreports multiple executions (calls to BICS_GET_RESULTS) are seen. Runtimes are as long as 60 seconds.
The Bex query is based on a multiprovider without ODS.
The RFC trace shows BICS connection problems, CS as BICS_PROV_GET_INITIAL_STATE takes a lot of time.
I checked the note 1399816 - Task name - prefix - RSDRP_EXECUTE_AT_QUERY_DISP, and itu2019s not applicable because the customer has the BI 7.01 SP 8 and it has already
domain RSDR0_TASKNAME_LONG in package RSDRC with the
description: 'BW Data Manager: Task name - 32 characters', data
type: CHAR; No. Characters: 32, decimal digits: 0
data element RSDR0_TASKNAME_LONG in package RSDRC with the
description 'BW Data Manager: Task name - 32 characters' and the
                previously created domain.
    as described on the message
Could you suggest me something to check, please?
    Thanks en advance
    Regards

    Hi,
It would be great if you would quote the ADAPT and tell the audience when it is targetted for a fix.
Generally speaking, CR for Enteprise  isn't as performant as WebI,  because uptake was rather slow .. so i'm of the opinion that there is improvements to be gained.   So please work with Support via OSS.
My onlt recommendations can be :
    - Patch up to P2.12 in bi 4.0
    -  Define more default values on the Bex query variables.
    - Implement this note in the BW 1593802    Performance optimization when loading query views

  • Hierarchy Performance in BO 4.0 direct to Bex query

    Hi
We are using BO 4.0 using BICS connection.
Webi report is connected directly to BEx query.
We are getting perforance when selecting Hierarchy in new BO 4.0 environment.
In what way we can reduce this performance.
The report is taking around 30 minutes and some time time out.
    Is this product issue
    Regards
    Gaurav Mang

    Hi,
    1. you can "suppress unassigned nodes" in RSH1
    2. you can enable Query Stripping in webi query panel and webi document properties
    3. you can enable BICSLOVChunking registry settings
--> Note 1581323 - BI 4.0 Web Intelligence very slow performance when using BICS
    4. modify the WebiParamMaxLovSize settings
--> Note 1671774 - "OutOfMemory exception" and poor performance when accessing large LOV's in WebIntelligence (using Desktop client or Launchpad) using BICS to connect to BEx query
    5. you should implement all the latest BW correction from the BI-RA-BICS component, such as BICS Note 1593802  Performance optimization when loading query views
    6. You should use the latest available Patch2.12 (optimizations since 2.10 are very good)
    7. you should answer as many Filters (Bex variables) as possible during runtime.
    Regards,
    H
p.s. after these steps,  the rest is down to Document, Query, and Datamodel design.

  • How to remove Decimals in Quantity Objects in SAP BO Explorer View created on top SAP Bex Query?

    Hi,
I created SAP BO Explorer report on top of SAP BEx Query.
In SAP BEx Query, Decimals were hided but when i created OLAP Universe on top that SAP BEx Query and Created Index on top of Information Space in SAP BO Explorer and then created Exploration Views. But i'm getting Decimals in my Exploration Views where as SAP BEx Query in RSRT, no decimals were appearing.
Can anyone suggest me how to remove decimals in SAP BO Exploration Views.

    Hi Ramana,
I am not use how you connect to SAP BEx query (Via universe or BWA or HANA)
What I could say is BWA and HANA, you cannot adjust this
For universe, you could try in universe layer, there is note about this
For BWA and HANA, this function might be enhanced but you 'd better raise OSS to SAP to check with them

  • Error while executing BEx Query on Composite Provider

    Hi,
We have a BW on-HANA system, patch level SAPKW73105.
We have created a Composite provider based on the union of two DSOs, two infoobjects, one SPO, and there are a couple of joins with two other DSOs, on the top of that we built a BEx query.
While executing the BEx query, sometimes (depending on the filter values), We got the following error message
"Attribute engine failed;Error executing physical plan: exception 6900: AttributeEngine/Parallel/DimensionFilter.cpp engine failed; $function$=getValidFemsPA;"
"Error 6,900 has occurred in the BWA/SAP HANA server"
"Error reading the data of InfoProvider @3ZSDRPCP5"
"Error while reading data; navigation is possible"
    "Row: 59 Inc: MAP_TREX_EXCEPTION Prog: CL_RSDRH_TREX_STORAGE"
    (Attached error message)
Ii We browse the composite provider data using the "display data" option in the RSA1, data is displayed without issue, the problem only appears during the BEx query execution and only with some filter vaues.
Any idea on how to fix the issue.
    Thanks,
    Federico

He's on 7.3 EhP1, which is on SPS12 today. It got pretty stable by SP08, SP09. SP05 was pretty early on, and had a lot of bugs in the HANA views.
7.4 is on SP07 like you say, and most of our customers run at least SP06 - before then, you had to apply a bucketload of SAP notes. I would recommend customers apply SP08 with care because it's a feature release so will have a bunch of new features, which will no doubt need corrections.

  • Oracle Hints - Bex Query

    Hi experts,
can I add a particular hints when I execute at run time a query bex ?
My main scope is that when I run a bex query, the corresponding query may use an oracle parallel hint in order to increase the performance.
Do you think that I can do it ?
    Thank'you in advance !

    > can I add a particular hints when I execute at run time a query bex ?
    No, you can't.
    > My main scope is that when I run a bex query, the corresponding query may use an oracle parallel hint in order to increase the performance.
Usually there's a good reason for BEX queries not to use the parallel query feature.
That reason is: parallel query turns your multi-user database into a single-user query machine.
This single sql session will aquire way more resources than a standard query - eventually blocking other activities.
In order to speed up your BEX query better check the execution plan and figure out what makes the query too slow.
Open a support message for it if you cannot do this yourself - there are quite some bugs around (even with Oracle 10.2.0.4) that lead to bad quey performance.
Of course - the first things to check would be to install the current Oracle patchset, patches and setup the parameters correctly. More than 90% of all performance support messages are solved just by that!

    Lars

  • BEx Query in BO Explorer

    Hi,
What are the current options to view BW data in BO explorer.
Is there an option to use Bex Query and expose it directly in BO Explorer?
Are we still using universes on top of Bex queries to expose data in explorer?
I read somewhere that there are two different formats of Universes. Which one do we have to use if Universes are the option.
I know if we use BWA we can use BWA Explorer to expose cubes and use the data in explorer. But with this approach we are limited to the data in the cube and we loose those restrictions and filters we use in Bex. Any suggestions on this?
Also can you provide the steps for the best option?
    DV

    Hi Dave
If you have neither HANA nor BWA in place, you can still have two options for using Explorer on top of Bex:
    1. use an .unv universe on top of a Bex Query as suggested here. This is the second option suggested by Ingo available as of BI4.1.
    2. Load your Bex query to a DSO in BW, and expose the data to Explorer via an .unx as suggested here. This is available as of BW 7.3

  • "Use Query Drill" in Webi 4.1 patch 3.1 on BEx query

    Hi,
We are working with Webi version 4.1 and creating reports on BEx queries (BW 7.31)
Withn 6 months, BW will be migrated to HANA.
Is it possible to use the option in Webi document "Use Query Drill" on BEX queries when using BICS?
When using HANA, we would like to fetch fresh data from BEx query on HANA with every drill (up or down) step the user makes.
When on HANA, we'd like to keep Webi's microcube as little as possible.
    Tx for yr reply,
    Jan

    Hi Jan,
"query drill" will only work for drill paths that have been created in a UNV or UNX universe. As BICS does not need UNV or UNX, it is not possible to leverage that setting using BICS.
    Best regards,

  • Webi report on Bex Query takes very long to refresh.

    Hi All,
I have a report in webi on bex query which takes forever to give me data which is only 1000 rows. In our Development environment its completely fine but in our UAT environment its extremely slow. i can not push it to production until i have same performance as development environment. Can someone help to point me in the right direction? Have tried to run that Bex directly against BW and its fine takes a few secs. But in webi takes almost 10 mins. Thank you.

    A) Please, state exact version and patch level of involved SAP BusObjects system as well as SAP BW system. There have been many improvements with respect to perfromance.
    B) Are you using BICS for Webi (recommended) to connect directly to SAP BEx query or the old and slow OLAP UNV approach?
    C) Are you using the same navigation state in Webi as in BEx Analyzer or are there more dimensions in the Webi query panel than shown in BEx Analyzer?
