BGP Duplicated AS path

Hello guys,
Today at work something awkward caught my attention.
The situation falls to BGP, when I issue the command sh ip bgp, the output gives me this:
RT52162#sh ip bgp
BGP table version is 56, local router ID is 10.10.0.16
Status codes: s suppressed, d damped, h history, * valid, > best, i - internal,
              r RIB-failure, S Stale
Origin codes: i - IGP, e - EGP, ? - incomplete
Network                     Next Hop            Metric LocPrf Weight  Path
*  0.0.0.0                     172.**.***161                    50       0          15**5 15**5 65010 ?
*>                                 172.**.***.169                              0          15**5 65010 ?
*> 10.**.0.16/32        0.0.0.0                                            0            32768 ?
*> 10.**.0.0/16          0.0.0.0                                            0            32768 ?
The bold part of the output it's exactly the same, and this connection runs on ATM.
I can't figure out this issue, so if anyone could explain me why this is happening or how can I troubleshoot it, I have other sites configured the with the same configuration and it gives me the exact same output.

Hi,
The neighbor 172.xxx.xxx.161 is doing AS_PATH prepending by prepending its AS number one time when advertising the default route so that is is considered a backup neighbor.

  • Route advertisement with AS path

    Hello
We are running Multi-homed network, to influence the BGP route selection, we are using AS path attribute with route-maps.
Recently, we observed that the routes advertised on TCL network(ISP 1) were not reflected in global routing table.
For example, we have advertised a network (196.X.X.X/24) on TCL BGP peer as best path and also advertised the same network on another BGP peer with AS path pretend of 10times. But, the network is reaching via Bharti BGP (iSP 2 )peer instead of TCL peer.
Can anyone help understand as why it is preferred route is via Bharti
    Thanks
    Viswa Sai

Network statement in BGP configuration is used to identify which networks are being advertised. BGP process then checks the global routing table, if it sees a prefix in global routing table and with exact match (including subnet mask), only then it will advertise that network to other BGP peers.
Is this network a local network or learned from other routing protocols? If locak, make sure you enter exact mask of the network seen in routing table. If learned from other routing protocols, the better way is to selectively redistribute iGP routes into BGP using prefix-list and route-map.
As far as convergence is concerned, below is explanation:
BGP routers router will not start the BGP Best-Path calculation/selection process until they receives all NLRI from BGP peer. This will be known from UPDATE messages. End of UPDATE messages is usually identified after a KEEPALIVE message is received.
The time taken to learn new best path is directly proportional to number of NLRIs received from peers.
Only when your service provider router selects it's best path, and installs into RIB, it is going to send UPDATE message to your routers. If SP routers use line cards with Cisco distributed forwarding, it is going to populate it's FIB and then send UPDATE message.
It depends on how fast your Bharati BGP peer detects your network unreachable and sends UPDATE messages to it's peers to withdraw your network's NLRI from it's routing table.
There are ways to improve this convergence, but at service provider level. In your network, if you want faster re-convergence, static routes (with higher AD) would be a wonderful solution.
Few other ways would be to use:
    Bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD)
    fast neighbor failover
    BGP next hop tracking
BGP best external path (IOS and vendor specific)
BGP prefix convergence (IOS and vendor specific)

  • Mapped drive duplicating in windows 8.1

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 a little while ago and have run Windows Update recently.  For the most part, things seem to be working fine.
One issue that I have noticed is that one of my mapped drives keeps duplicating.  This seems to happen after every restart, or shutdown.
I have Hyper-V set up and I mapped drive T:\ to a folder on that drive.  It has been working fine for a year.
After getting the latest update for Windows 8.1, when I go into File Explorer, I will see that drive listed as all other available drive letters as well as drive T:\.
I can disconnect them, but it is a pain to have to do that over and over - I cannot map other drive letters to other folders if they are in use.  I need to do that periodically for testing client issues.
I have searched the forums and did not find any open threads for this.
It is a standalone workstation that is networked with other computers but it is not on a domain.  This is the only other computer I use all the time that has Windows 8.1 installed.
    Please help.

    Hi,
You can try clean boot to determine if a 3rd party software causes this issue.
If this is not the cause, I suggest you modify the registry value of mapped drivers to see if this issue persists:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Map Network Drive MRU then delete the duplicated drive path.
If this issue persists, please try another user account for test.

No 3rd party software is causing the issue.
    I went to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Map Network Drive and there is only the default, nothing else.

  • BGP LOAD BALANCING

BGP chooses only a single best path to reach a specific destination. BGP is not designed to perform load balancing..
what i learned from every doc... but suppose this two ebgp neighbor have multiple path, creating neighborship by using loopback ip, to reach loopback router have 2 equal cost igp routes...in that case after recursive lookup router will load balance the traffic ...
Plzzz let me know am i right... or what is the meaning of this statement :
At one side it is said bgp is not made for load balancing specially in ccna, ccnp other exam books, but after doing google found following link, saying load balancing/load sharing can be done.... Why this confusion...
    http://ccieblog.co.uk/bgp/bgp-unequal-load-cost-sharing
Please tell me what is truth...

    Milan,
    link will help me lot...
    but...
The maximum-paths command for BGP works if your router has multiple parallel paths to different routers in the same remote AS; this command affects only the number of routes kept in the IP routing table, not the number of paths selected as best by BGP. For BGP, the paths parameter defaults to one.
Suppose R1 have 2 paths to reach any destination; Without the maximum-paths command under the router bgp, there is only one path in R1’s routing table. After the maximum-paths 2 command is added to the R1 BGP configuration, both paths appear in the IP routing table, However, only one path is still selected as the best in the BGP table.
    Vasilii & Reza,
means what is right statement for bgp load balancing ....or is it changed case to case..?? please clear me...
Guies ...can you also tell me bgp support for "load balancing" & "load sharing"???

As Peter described, normally you wouldn't use BGP in place of an IGP like EIGRP or OSPF.
However, if you're a masochist, you could.
For example, if all your routers were connected by p2p links, you could configure each router in its own AS and run them as eBGP peers.
What Peter was alluding to, normally interior BGP peers run as iBGP peers, but then each requires a connection to every other peer (full mesh).  (There's also BGP route reflectors or BGP confederations, which limit the need for interior iBGP peering to all other iBGP routers, but neither deals with how the iBGP routers "know" how to route to their required peers.)  Normally an IGP protocol is used to provide reachability, but you could do the same with static routes.  Of course, whether you have an IGP or use static routes that maps out the whole interior topology they both beg the question of why also then have iBGP too (if being used just for the interior topology).
There's a limit to the number of AS numbers, especially if using just the private range, so you could combine the two approaches, such as having small clusters of iBGP peers (maybe 2 or 3) which eBGP peer to other clusters.
If you did go to all the trouble, you would then find that BGP will likley converge  slower than most IGPs and unless you do some manual policy configuration, BGP won't path select much better than RIP.
What BGP does well is handle massive route tables (like the Internet) and allow very sophiscated (manual) routing policies.  However, both are usually not as desirable for an IGP.

  • Time Machine not backing up /home

I understand that Leopard did a silly thing with the /home directory, and I've fixed it so that /home is visible. However, it doesn't look like Time Machine will acknowledge that it exists. I have files under /home that correspond to a production web server that has its web documents under /home (I'm duplicating the path on my local machine). These are the files that change most often. We do use version control but if Time Machine won't back these up then I don't have any use for it.
How do you force TM to back up a directory that it isn't currently backing up? There aren't any exclusion rules in the TM preferences; the /home directory just isn't there. I've also looked with Terminal, and no good there either.
Is this a case where Apple insists that it knows better, and there's no reason for me to be using /home, and I should just change the way I work? Because that's bollocks.

Do you use a symbolic link? Only local directories are backed up and it probably assumes that this is a client-server environment, and all backups are centrally managed.
Leopard did make changing the /home path from NetInfo Manager into the Account control panel, which I like and I've always used a separate physical drive for /home.
You are right, TM is not for everyone, nor is it even perfect when it does probably.

  • Load-balancing vs Load-sharing (L2/L3)

What is the difference in load balancing and load sharing. Can you generalize load-balancing to layer two? Or layer three protocols also do this, except BGP?
FHRPs like VRRP, GLBP, and HSRP are essentially load sharing protocols (except GLBP though). Loop prevention mechanisms like MSTP, G.8032, and REP also do not do load balancing I guess. Instead they offer a way to distribute (share) traffic over multiple links unevenly. Why do people still call it load-balancing?
While link aggregation may truly be considered load balancing. Where traffic can be balanced based on a few attributes ( src-dst/mac, ip, port).
And what role does fast-switching/process-switching play in load balancing. I am aware that these are the very processes that ultimately do load-balancing, given enough equal cost paths. Does CEF really take load balancing to another level? It still does the same job, but by caching flow data (RIB) to the CEF table, doesn't it?
Incase of IGP, load-balancing may be possible, but BGP just doesn't support it. Because it only selects one best route (?). Even with multipath, BGP advertises best path only; it does install multiple routes in routing table though. So IGP does the balancing?

  • MPLS VPN load sharing when multihoming

Any one know of best practices for outbound load balancing when multihoming to 2 different service providers in an mpls vpn.
I have referred to this document (http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/459/40.html) which states the only way to do this is by assigning metrics/weights to a certain range of prefixes learned from one provider, hence load sharing.
Turning up bgp multipath on the CE would be optimal but since AS PATHs are different the best path selection will be different. Could we possibly turn of best path selection for AS paths (bgp bestpath as-path ignore) and make multipath work? Would that install 2 routes for the same prefix in the RIB?
    Thanks
    Ariful Huq

Yes you can turn off best path selection for AS path and have multipath work. For a route to be populated in routing table BGP has various metrics for its selection. AS path is one of the metrics it uses for best route selection, so I dont think there should be any problem with it.

  • Is it possible to replicate this in Motion 4?

    http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/dynamic_machine_gun/
I was thinking that the link behavior might be able to accomplish this, but it doesn't seem to allow for the source image/footage of a particle system to be changed based on position or in any other way. Are individual particle emitters the only way to accomplish this effect?

Pretty much all of the portions of the tutorial can be replicated in Motion 4 - the only thing that won't work is the algorithmic reading of the surface map to determine which particle emitter to turn on.
You could work around this by duplicating the path of the particle emitter for each surface and manually activating each emitter at the proper point.
I did request the ability to read image characteristics and use them to alter parameters in a presentation to the Motion engineers, but they did not add it to Motion 5.

  • Copy isn't copying everything?

    Hey ya'll                                                                                             Level: Newbie'ish OS: Win 7 64bit  Ps: Cs6
So, i went back to an image i made a while ago because i wanted to remember how i went about doing something. i also got out my notebook where i kept track of particular aspects of the lesson.
sadly, i do not seem to have written down the one thing i am looking to recall.
    Here is a pic
see the open path that defines the arm inside the red circle?
well, i'm working on a female version of this but i can't seem to recall how i went about duplicating the path so that the stroke and layer styles are copied as well.
This is how i made it ...
i selected the pen tool > set to path > drew out my path > right clicked to select stroke path
then i double clicked on the layer to add a gradient overlay and a drop shadow
now, when i made the guy above all i wrote down to do is to copy and transform but now when i do this only the path is copied.
i have tried copy, copy merged, paste, paste special and paste in place.
when i use ctrl + J and then flip it the stroke and ls's aren't copied. ??
ctrl + j makes a new layer with the layer styles listed but when i did it the first time this is what my layers look(ed) like
see how the "right arm" layer doesn't list the layer styles?
can anyone Please remind me how one goes about copying and pasting an open path such as this so that one has a layer without the styles listed?
i have also used alt + ctrl + t and dragged to copy but this also makes a layer with the styles listed.
i know, i know ... this may seen Crazy to want to know but i do just really want to recall how i ended up with a copy on a layer without the styles listed.
thank you so much in advance for your time & efforts. you're much appreciated.
yup, i've been all through the FAQ's and when i got to the manual i think maybe i'm just not using the right key words to find the answer.

    Hi conroy ...
thank you for reading my post. that works great for Copying without the Layer Styles
however, that wasn't quite what i was looking for and so i think i did not ask my question the right way.
while going through the Layers of my original image i noticed that the opposite side of the open Path that defines the arm did not have any Layer Styles listed on its layer and i could not recall how i went about creating the opposite side so that the Layer Styles are Copied but the Layer of the Copy did not list the Layer Styles.... and so that the Styles are also Flipped/Transformed accordingly.
i would use Ctrl + J to duplicate the layer but when i would go to Transform/Flip it Horizontally this is what would (and does) happen ... it appears that only the Path is Duplicated and Transformed... (this was drawn with the Pen tool set to Path)
but actually when the Move tool is selected you can pull out the Copy made by Ctrl + J ... like this ...
but what to do with that pesty Path with the Handles?? to get rid of this go to the Paths palette (if you don't have it open over by your Layers palette just go to Windows > Path) and click the Trash Can icon at the bottom of the Paths palette.
Now, once you've removed the Path with the Layer of the Copy selected in the Layers palette go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal
but this leaves you with an image where the Layer Styles are not Flipped accordingly like so ...
so, what to do? and this is what i was trying to recall what i had done with my original image and why the Copied Layer did not have the Layer Styles listed
in order to Duplicate/Copy a Path or Shape so that the Layer Styles are also Transformed accordingly
    1. Have the Layer selected in your Layers palette that you've drawn on
    2. Go to your Paths palette and click the Delete/Trash can icon (you're deleting the Work Path)
    3. Press Ctrl + J
    4. Click the New Layer icon to make a new layer above the Copy
    5. Shift click to select both the Copy and the Blank New Layer > Go to the Drop down arrow to the right where your Layers & Path palettes are and choose > Merge Layers OR hit Ctrl + E (this flattens the artwork so that the Layer Styles will be Transformed accordingly)
    6. Go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal
see how the Drop Shadows are now the same?
here's what the Layer panel looks like for the image above...
well, there ya have it. my bad ... i think i asked my question the wrong way.
i didn't want to leave anyone hanging and also i really needed to figure it out. hope this helps a "newbie" like me
conroy ... i REALLY APPRECIATE your taking a whack at trying to decipher what i was trying to ask
    take care everyone
ps. the reason i said ... "copy isn't copying everything" is b/c it seemed like the stroke wasn't being copied when i flipped it and only the path outline w/the handles was visible ... i did not realize the copy was underneath the original

  • Load sharing/balancing between 2 Service Providers

    Hi,
I have a scenario where I have the following and this is repeated at different sites globally.
    CE1-----------PE1_SP1---MPLS cloud
    |
    CE1---standby--PE2_SP1---MPLS cloud
    CE2-----------PE1_SP2----MPLS Cloud
    |
    CE2---standby--PE2_SP2---MPLS Cloud
2 different service providers and we require load sharing/balancing to both SP1 and SP2.
If either of the SP's PE router is down it should bring up the standby link.
2 ASN, not sure if I can load share different prefixes in this scenario.
    Will the applications fail?
Will the traffic flow be symmetric ?
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hello Paul,
if you are using a single CE router on each site.
to get load-balancing on your CEx:
    router bgp X
    maximum-paths 2
eBGP load-balancing is easier so 2 ISP ASN is fine
Verify that you have flow based load-balancing and everything should be fine.
Notice that you have a failure on site N of provider1 you can be able to detect it in all remote sites only if they are receiving the routes of all the sites. If receiving a default route there's no way for other sites to detect the failure.
If receiving all the prefixes after MP-BGP convergence in ISP1 site N's prefixes will be withdrawn and will be reachable only via ISP2.
    To use an active/standby
    on all Cex
    router bgp x
    neighbor PE-ISP1 weigth 500
    neighbor PE-ISP1 fast-external-fallover
in this way until a prefix is present in ISP1 MP-BGP traffic is sent via ISP1
If using two CE in each site things are a little more complex and you need an iBGP session between them.
    Hope to help
    Giuseppe

  • Ip prefix-list modification help

i need to modify my internet edge bgp advertisements to exclude a small slice of the end of our ip space and i can't wrap my brain around what i need to do to modify the prefix list. my company uses the 192.168.0.0 thru 192.168.11.255 ip space and shown below in our existing bgp configuration (slightly modified to protect the innocent). I want to cut out the very last /29 net out of the 192.168.11.0 network.
    router bgp 65001
    bgp always-compare-med
    bgp log-neighbor-changes
    bgp bestpath as-path multipath-relax
    neighbor 1.1.1.1 remote-as 65002
    neighbor 1.1.1.1 ebgp-multihop 255
    maximum-paths 2
    address-family ipv4
      neighbor 1.1.1.1 activate
      neighbor 1.1.1.1 prefix-list mycompany-list out
      network 192.168.0.0 mask 255.255.248.0
      network 192.168.8.0 mask 255.255.252.0
    ip prefix-list mycompany-list seq 70 permit 192.168.0.0/21 le 24
    ip prefix-list mycompany-list seq 71 permit 192.168.8.0/22 le 24
now, i know i could just remove the prefix-list and change the advertised networks with the following but i'd really like to know how to do it via a prefix-list.
    network 192.168.0.0       255.255.248.0
    network 192.168.8.0       255.255.254.0
    network 192.168.10.0     255.255.255.0
    network 192.168.11.0     255.255.255.128
    network 192.168.11.128  255.255.255.192
    network 192.168.11.192  255.255.255.224
    network 192.168.11.224  255.255.255.240
    network 192.168.11.240  255.255.255.248
Any help that anyone can provide is much appreciated!

i tried applying your suggestion and we still saw the larger 192.168.8.0/22 supernet being advertised... still missing something.
i tried writing the prefix-list explictitly stating only the networks i wanted advertised but something went wrong and we lost some internet connectivity from the outside so i had to pull things back to the way they were. this is what i tried:
first i added lines 75 thur 105 so the list looked like this:
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 65 deny 192.168.11.248/29       <- your suggestion applied
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 70 permit 192.168.0.0/21 le 24  <- original line
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 71 permit 192.168.8.0/22 le 24  <- oiriginal line
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 75 permit 192.168.8.0/23          <- new stuff starts here
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 80 permit 192.168.10.0/24
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 85 permit 192.168.11.0/25
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 90 permit 192.168.11.128/26
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 95 permit 192.168.11.192/27
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 100 permit 192.168.11.224/28
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 105 permit 192.168.11.240/29
then i removed lines 65 and 71 leaving just this:
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 70 permit 192.168.0.0/21 le 24  <- original line
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 75 permit 192.168.8.0/23          <- new stuff
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 80 permit 192.168.10.0/24
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 85 permit 192.168.11.0/25
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 90 permit 192.168.11.128/26
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 95 permit 192.168.11.192/27
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 100 permit 192.168.11.224/28
    ip prefix-list stateofnh-list seq 105 permit 192.168.11.240/29
but like i said, suddenly several sites we host became unavailable from and i quickly peeled everything back. suggestions?

  • Multihoming Primary/Backup PE MPLS VPN

    Hi there,
I kind of stuck of implementing and configuring Primary/Backup scenario for MPLS VPN enviroment.
Currently, only singe CE router connected to 2 PE router, Primary PE and Backup PE in the same POP.
PE-CE IGP is running OSPF. On CE router prespective, how do I achieve primary/backup scenario and on other remote PE, how does MPLS VPN cloud noticed that there is Primary and Backup PE towords this CE router?
Any configuration or sample out there? Appreciate for the help.
    regards,
    maher

    Hello Maher,
I would try to set the interface metric to a higher value for the backup PE. With OSPF->BGP redistribution you should then get a higher MED in BGP making the path less preferable. Example:
    interface Serial0/0
    description to primary PE
    ip ospf cost 100
    interface Serial0/1
    description to backup PE
    ip ospf cost 1000
Alternatively you could modify the MED while redistributiing into BGP:
    router bgp 65000
    address-family ipv4 vrf VRFname
redistribute ospf 123 vrf VRFname match internal external route-map OSPF2BGP
    route-map OSPF2BGP permit 10
    set metric 10000

  • Difference between auxiliary track volume and send/bus

I'm trying to take it easy on my laptop so I started using AUX tracks for compressors, eqs, etc. that I have on multiple tracks. However, I have a few questions.
When I add an aux track, it is added at -∞. I guess I don't completely understand its function. What is the difference between me pulling this up to 0 or changing the volumes in my original track?
With that in mind, I'm assuming (maybe wrongly) that if I want the full effect/volume to be sent that I set the send to 0 also (the little green circle that I pull up next to the send button).
Am I wrong in any of my logic? I'm just trying to figure out how this all affects volume and what not and what values to set these things at. I had my mix set at individual volumes that I liked. However, when I switched my tracks from all having an individual plug-in to sending them all to a bus, the volumes changed, even when I set the send and the aux track volume to 0.
I know I'm wrong somewhere here! I just don't know where! Can you guys help and point me to a fix and better understanding? Thank you.

Are these the two methods you were talking about?
Yes these are the methods with one note ony !
In the 1st picture the chennel strip sends are routed to Bus 1 - so far so good. But what I see is that you have inserted an EQ on the system Aux which is not so good. In this scenario the chanel strip audio path is dubplicated (one is passing thru the channel strip out 1-2 and the other is splited thru the channel strip Send Knob->Bus->Aux-> Out 1-2 so you EQ the Send path only - OK?
In this scenario you can insert  Reverb, Delay, Chorus etc and use them as calssical system FX so the duplicated "send" path just adds some system FX (note the Aux FX plugin must be set to 100% Wet) so you add wet signal to the dry path. You can correct your 1st setup and insert Reveb for instance. After that you can control the reverb abount for each channel strip using the channel strip send knob(s) (currently they all are set to 0dB).
When you want to use say an EQ or Compressor etc then your second setup is OK ! In the second picture you have grouped the chanel strip outputs to one bus/aux so all inserted plugins there will behave as Group "Insert" ones (no duplicated paths here). The second setup is used with say violin, vocal winds group summed to an Aux where you want to EQ, Compress, Pan … the whole group etc.

  • Hidden duplicate network drives without assigned letter

I have a computer at work that is connected to duplicate mapped drives. We discovered a network path error when trying to make relative links in Acrobat. The computer folder showed all the correct network paths. When I used the 'net use' command
in cmd it showed duplicate mapped drives without out assigned letters that didn't appear in the GUI. Below is an example (Leaving out most of the drive names for security purposes). The two drives at the bottom are duplicates of the P: drive. I deleted these
duplicates in in the cmd window, but it has happened again and we can't figure it out. Can anyone tell me why?
    Status       Local     Remote                    Network
OK           P:        \\p             GING      Microsoft Windows Network
OK           R:        \\p                           Microsoft Windows Network
OK           S:        \\P                           Microsoft Windows Network
OK           W:       \\c                           Microsoft Windows Network
OK           Y:        \\p                           Microsoft Windows Network
OK                     \\p             GING       Microsoft Windows Network
OK                     \\p             GING       Microsoft Windows Network
    The command completed successfully.

    Hi,
Have you tried to use another user account to check?
You could modify the registry value of mapped drivers to see if this issue persists:
Note: please backup the registry before performing the any modification.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Map Network Drive MRU
In the registry value, you could clear the duplicated drive path.
