Im replicating a DS in ECC6 and Im getting a v3.5 DS in BI.
ie 0HAP_DOC_ID_ATTR.

How to Migrate a 3.x DataSource to a 7.0 DataSource
Currently there are many people upgrading from 3.x to 7.0. The biggest question is how and when do we upgrade objects that were developed within the old 3.x functionality? What does this mean for someone that is still understanding the differences?
The biggest question out of the above ones is when do you upgrade and how do you do it. Most of the time, it is easiest to do a technical upgrade at first and as you start a new development phase, you start upgrading your objects and security. For people that don't know what a technical upgrade is, it is basically upgrading the platform that you are working on, which includes the new functionality but the capability to continue using the 3.x development that has already been done. Also remember 3.x security will no longer be supported when you upgrade to 7.0 functionality and you don't want to use this security methodology either because of the better functionality that is offered within 7.0.
The following steps are one of the many ways to upgrade currently developed 3.x objects to 7.0 functionality:
1. Find the InfoSource that the upgraded DataSource is attached to
2. Create a new transformation against the data target or the infoobject that is to be upgraded. In the case that it is Master Data and it is flexible, you can still create a transformation directly against the InfoObject(s) because a DataSource can be tied to multiple transformations.
3. Create DTP(s) for this transformation(s) and Activate
4. Right click on the DataSource and choose Migration
5. A pop up screen will come up next and will ask you if you want to migrate with export OR without export.

1. With Export - Allows you to revert back to 3.x DataSource, Transfer Rules, etc...when you choose this option (Recommended)
2. Without Export - Does not allow you to ever revert back to the 3.x DataSource.
6. A transport should be requested after you choose one of the above mentioned because the transfer rules will be deleted and the emulated 3.x DataSource will be converted to 7.0 DataSource.
Now, the next decision that needs to be made is in how you convert 3.x objects and in past experience it should be a phased approach. If you are still in the a development phase, you should upgrade each of the current developed objects and do not upgrade objects that have been through development cycles. If an object that has been through the full development cycle and needs to be upgraded due to a defect, these objects should be next. After all of these new/current developed objects have been upgraded to 7.0 functionality, then I personally would start upgrading past development objects.
Note**That I have seen in some cases that the transfer rules deletion is not added in the transport, one way to avoid this from occurring is after you create the new transformation with the datasource assignment, you can manually delete the old transfer rules and the associated datasource assignment. his will request another transport request and you can use the same one when migrating the datasource.

Record Group and From-Clause Datasource

I need to do several complex queries (read-only) for my form. Original I used From-Clause datasource but, as the requirement changed, there are some limitations. I would rather no do anything dynamically if as all possible because there are over 20 such queries which makes the code difficult to maintain. I wanted to be able to reference block items in the query.
I'm thinking about using Record Group query instead. What are the differences in capability between Record Groups and From-Clause Datasource?

That's exactly the problem I have. I don't want to use LOVs so I've been thinking about how to visualize the record group data using data blocks. Perhaps I'll just go with dynamically building the From-Clause.
I've looked into stored procedure based blocks a bit; it was confusing for me. Are the stored procedures stored in the database or are they defined in the form?

1. make sure that your datasources have activated (trans RSA5 in SAP Source System) from the SAP Source system (Ex: R/3 or SCM System)
2. after that you have to run trans RSA9 in SAP Source System to transfer new datasource in to BI System.
3. log-on into BI System, run trans RSA1, choose SourceSystem Tab in the left panel. Right click on to your SAP Source System then choose Replicate.
4. in the left panel choose BI Content tab, select infoObjects by infoArea.
5. then Click on Grouping, select in Dataflow Before and afterward. Click Collection Mode, select Collect Automatically.
6.in the middle panel, expand "Supply Chain Management" infoArea, select both Characteristics: Logistics General and Key Figures: Logistics General. Right click on it and select Insert Objects for Collections.
7. After the objects have been inserted into Collected Objects then choose install with option Install in Background.
8. Wait for the result.

we have upgraded to BI7 and When I am trying to save a query as workbook and open it is opening but a junk data is getting displayed in the excel workbook.The excel version is 2007.
But when I tried the same with excel version 03 it is opening fine with valid data.

Thanks Bernd: I am using Adobe Acrobat 10 Pro. I did get a response from Dave Marchant which directed me how to find the layers icon and I found the options icon as suggested in Adobe Help. However, the options do not allow me to choose an option of either merging layers or flattening layers. I am a novice at this and am trying to get this 1-page pdf graphic to convert to a Word document. Is it possible that I already have a single layer pdf and that Word is doing something weird during the conversion? I tried to convert the document yesterday and I ended up with two pages in Word. One page had the text boxes and one had the river channels on which the text boxes had been inserted. This is not a document I created. We have been struggling for 5 years at various times to get this one page document into Word so that it can be used in multiple reports. Even the graphics departments at a couple of companies have not been able to get this document resized from the original 11 x 17 format into 8.5 x 11. I managed to get that done yesterday. But now can't get a useable version into Word. Suggestions?

Error while trying to use Ant and creating Jdbc Datasource

I was following the documentation to auto-create my datasource in my weblogic server. I get an error while it is trying to link the datasource to the server. Does anybody have any ideas,it is almost like the query to get the server isn't working.

Could you please try changing the driver

B1 8.8 and Crystal Reports datasource issues

Hello everyone,
the HowTo on using CR with 8.8 recommends the SAP B1 Datasource type for reports.
In our setup this datasource type does not work (logon failed message after entering credentials) while OLE (ADO DB) does.
SAP B1 Datasource type would be of great help to our report designers due to annotated tables.
We were not able to trace what is going wrong i.e. we found no more detailed error msgs.
Is there any documentation on the B1 datasource type and how to investigate issues with it?

Strange, very strange...
I've done a little test in our setup. Trying to connect to our SBO 8.8 server, I selected the SBO server, the license server and the database type, leaving the credentials blank. Opening the list with companies, it showed all companies.
So something must be going wrong trying to reach either the SBO server or the license server. Like it can't connect to the SQL Server. I don't know if there are any differences in actual connections to MS SQL Server between OLE and SBO connections.
I'm running out of clues. At this point I can only think of two things, but assumed that you used the same info with the OLE connection, they're unlikely. Those are IP resolving issues and MS SQL Server instances.

Error in using XA and Non-XA datasource at same time

I think this case may be a little complicated:
there are two actual databases, for example, A is for service/biz, and B is for data archiving. system run the archiving service once a day, we decided to use JTA to ensure that no records would be lost while any exceptions encountered on each side. we create two XADatasouces for A and B. And there is an existed Non-XADatasource in weblogic that be used by general business. it's Database A actually. make a summary:
Two actually databases :
A , B
Three DataSources in Weblogic :
Non-XA-DS , XA-DS1 - > refer to Database A, the business DB
XA-DS2 - > refer to Database B, the archiving DB
And the archiving code like this:

look at the bold lines. it work well if remove the "*record logs to Non-XA-DS*". but if enable the logs features it will throw out an exception with message " cannot call commit of connection in a distributed transaction". It's weird, that Non-XA-DS is not a XADatasource and I also disabled the Global Transaction Support of the datasource. As i think . that UserTransaction would not manage a DS indicated not support JTA. is that correct? And how can I resolve this problems

Confused: the difference between ExtractStruct., and table in datasource?

Run RSA6 on R3, locate any datasource and display it, then we can see a ExtractStruct. field at the top, and many table fields at bottom. What's the difference between the ExtractStruct. and the below table in the datasource? All the entries are the same between these two? Or usually the below table in the datasource contains all the standard fields and it we want to populate the standard fields, we will have to add them to the ExtractStruct. during the extraction?
Also double click ExtractStruct. to open it, we can see an Append Structure button at the top bar. We know that if want to add custom fields, then we need to add them to the Append Structure, but if we want to just update standard fields, we just need to add them to the ExtractStruct.?

Hi Kevin,
The Fields you see in RSA6 are the fields of the extract structure only. It is a list of all the fields in ES. Some of the fields might be hidden and some of the fields might be used for selection. If you double click on the ES and go in, you will see the same set of fields. If you edit the DS, you can change the selections boxes there according to your requirement.
Append structure is for appending the necessary fields to the ES as you rightly mentioned. You can not change the standard delivered fields. You can do it using the access key but definitely not advisible. Hope this helps.

Implementation of SequenceImpl and third party Datasource

Hi !
When trying to use a third party datasource that supports sequences like i.e. maxdb (formaly sapdb) there is a problem with the implementation of the oracle.jbo.server.SequenceImpl class.
This class generates a sql-statement like:
select sequence_name.NEXTVAL from dual
which would be correct and then seems to return the value by something like
aResultSet.getLong('NEXTVAL').
This should be changed because not all DB-Systems return the nextval with the column name NEXTVAl.
So could you please be so kind and either change the first thing to:
select sequence_name.NEXTVAL NEXTVAL from dual
or even better the second statement to:
aResultSet.getLong(1).

Your answer came as quick as a flash I do not really miss a thing at the KM IMS, but this question was a customers challenge. So I have to explain that Java or ABAP is needed inevitably to access the records of an index or rather perfom a getRecord-functionality with documents stored in TREX.

I have created a datasource using Visual Administrator. I am trying to connect to it in my portal application. I have written the following code...

Connection connection = ds.getConnection();
But I am getting the following connection exception....
ResourceException in method ConnectionFactoryImpl.getConnection(): com.sap.engine.services.dbpool.exceptions.BaseResourceException: SQLException thrown by the physical connection: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Login failed for user 'sysadmin'.
can anybody tell me how to go about this exception?????

Claims Payment and Claims Reserve Datasources

Hello All,
I understand that claims Payment(0ISCM_PAYMENT_01) and Claims Reserve (0ISCM_RESERVE_03) extracts claims for which payments and reserves exist. These claims may be open or may not be.
I am looking for Claims which are open but there are no payments or reserves made yet.
But the above 2 datasources does not extract the claims for which there is no payment and reserve.
could you please help me with the Datasource, which would also extract the open claims along with claims which have payments/reserves.

How to make and use customised DataSource

Hi Gurus. If we are not making cubes for Inventory etc for which DS is already available, how can we create data sources in order to load the desired data in BW.means if Database fields are entirely different

Hi,
Customised extractors are called Generic extracters.
Usage:
1. When the standard extractors are not supporting the extraction what you need. If SAP does not have a standard extractor for your need to get data from R3, you would have to go for generic extractor.
2. If you create a custom object say by combining certain base tables in R3 say custom tables ZTAB1 and ZTAB2. These two tables are not SAP provided tables and there will not be any standard extractors. So cases like this you will have to go for generic extractors.
3. FI-SL requires generic extractors.
How:
You have to use RSO2 transaction and you can also set delta based on, one of the three characteristics such as timestamp, calday or pointer (a sequence no).
once you create it and activate it. The extractor will be available in ROOSOURCE - (table in R3 where all the data sources are available).
Steps
Log on sap R/3.
Step 1. create a table or view for generic extraction in se11.
Step 2. Goto t-code RSO2
Step 3. Here u have to decide whether to extract transaction data or master data attributes or texts.
Step 4. suppose if u have opted for transaction data,then give name in the column ex:ztd_m(data source name)
Step 5. select create button,this will take u to another screen.
Step 6. Here u have to decide from which application component u r extacting data.Ex: SD,MM,..
Step 7. in this screen u have to fill short disciption,medium,long( these r mandatory).
Step 8. then U have to Table name or view name which u have created in se11.
Step 9. I f u want to maintain generic delta then u can select generic delta in top left hand side corner.
Step 10. in next screen u have to give some field which is primary key.
step 11. here u to specify whether time stamp or cal day or numeric pointer depending on u r requirement.
step 12. then u have to specify whether new status for changed records or additive delta.
If u choose additive delta ,then u have to load data to infocube or ods object.
If u choose new status for changed records, then u to load data to ods object only.
Step 13. then save it.
Step 14. then logon to sap bw ,then replicate the data source then as usuall.
