BIOS 4.2 P67A-GD65 flash failed and motherboard HS ?

Hi,
I just ruined my motherboard MSI thanks, I possesses a P67A-GD65 and I wanted to put the last bios 4.2, the pc is stable at 100%, not overclocked etc .... I run the flash freeze win7 64 and freeze .... Now this does not boot anymore when I turn on the pc it'm black screen, it goes off, it turns on black screen in a loop ....
is there a method to reflash the bios or is what it is .....
Service thank you in advance

Try what froggy said but frorm the sound of it, you bricked the board.
If after clearing the cmos et al, you cannot post you will need to either take it to a computer shop or return it to msi for a bios flashing. I think shipping costs a little more than the computer shop but it only takes a few minutes.

  • Flashing of MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING failed and dual bios not helping, not sure why?

    Hi all
For the first time in 20 years Ive had a firmware flash fail it seems.
I have a MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING and updated the bios with the latest firmware via the "M-FLASH" utility within the systems bios.
All seemed to have gone well, it flashed to 100% rebooted and then just a blank screen and a sequence of keyboard light flashes.
After a minutes panic I thought not to worry, the motherboard has a dual bios.   So I powered down and switched the bios switch to bios B hoping it would assist and the problem is identical.
    Any tips anyone?

I just tried this along with removing power from the main board and it seems one of the two did it!   thanks

  • P67a-GD65 System Freezes and Recovers During 3D gaming and Online Video

    The Problem:
Temporary system freeze with audio stutter. The system recovers 30sec - 2min later.
Key presses made during freeze will execute after system recovers (ctrl+alt+delete for example)
Usually, but not always, I see an error message in the system tray and I do NOT experience bsod.
This happens seemingly at random from 3D accelerated applications, and web browsing. Games such as BF3 (moderate), WoW (seldom), Planetside 2 (frequently), Minecraft (seldom), Hawken (seldom), etc.
Also happens frequently in both Internet Explorer 9/10, Firefox, Chrome, and Steam store browser. Typically when watching steaming video (youtube, HULU, flow player, etc)
but Pandora audio streaming also seems to create the conditions where this happens.
    Error Message:
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver 314.07 stopped
    responding and has successfully recovered"
The problem also shows up in the Windows reliability history with the following data:

Updated all motherboard drivers and bios (4.3) to current versions (no improvement)
Updated display drivers (in safe mode with driver sweeper. No improvement)
Updated Realtek Audio drivers for onboard sound (no improvement)
Updated Intel Rapid Storage drivers (no improvment)
Cleared CMOS and tested system at default settings with no overlock (no improvement)
Flashed 6950 back to 6950 stock bios and removed overclock (no improvement)
Replaced old 6950 with new GTX 670 (problem still occurs in the same exact way)
Tried GPU in 2nd PCIe slot. No improvement.
Checked GPU Temps. GTX 670 fan profile in EVGA Precision X set to keep temp below 70 degrees Celcius. Card maxes at 60 degrees under heavy gaming load.
Complete reformat of raid array with fresh install of Windows (4 different times) Seemed to help for a few days, then freezes came back
Ran OCCT and Prime 95 Torture tests separately for a few hours at stock and OC settings. System stable with core temps of high 50's overclocked, and low 40's stock.
Ran Memtest86 for 10 hours with zero errors.
Used digital multimeter to test 12v rail on PSU. Noted solid 12v reported. Didn't test other rails.
Unplugged PSU cables from motherboard and reattached firmly
Ran HD Tune and Data Life Guard Tools for error checking on hard disks. Zero errors found.
    Disabled Windows Aero (no improvement)
Updated Adobe Flash Player to latest setting (no improvement)
Removed Adobe Flash Player (no improvement)
Turned off Adobe Flash hardware acceleration (no improvement)
*EDIT: Forgot that I also adjusted Nvidia driver profiles for apps that have frozen to include power preference to max performance
All of my hardware with the exception of the new 670 was purchased and configured back in February of 2011. This problem first occured in BF3 multiplayer sometime in early 2012,
and has gradually been happening more frequently. Web searches found many individuals with this error, but the solutions are all over the map, and I've tried just about everything that I've found.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to the motherboard, but I just can't find a clear answer or solution. Maybe it's the raid array? I really thought replacing the GPU would solve my trouble here
and I was...NOT happy when it happened again with the new 670 that I scored for $250 after amazon gift cards. I typically get kicked/disconnected during online game play when this happens and I'm ready to be done with it. I was hoping to fix the issue without needing to buy new hardware, but I don't see any other way at this point.
My patience runs thin. Please help!

Might want to ask for the special archive to return the mainboard to pre-Ivy support UEFI/BIOS and then test again with everything set to auto/stock/default.
Already tested that before updating to 4.3.  I started having the problem on 1.8, then 1.J0, then 4.3.

Just a shot in the dark.
The length of time that your CPU has been running at the OC could have accelerated the eventual degradation.
Have you tested your CPU in another board or do you have access to a "known good" CPU to test in your system ?
I do not have another 1155 lga board to test the cpu in unfortunately, hence the CPU stress testing.  Based upon previous experiences with multiple overclocked systems that I've run at much more aggressive overclocks, I don't believe I'm seeing a processor failure, though I can't rule out the possibility.
Quote from: xmad on 11-March-13, 23:26:01
Quite a few components can cause this.
Do you have a friend that could lend you a psu to test? A weak of failing PSU can often be the cause of something like this?
No I don't have another PSU to test. I did use a digital multimeter to test the 12v rail, as well as the motherboard contacts for testing voltage to the cpu and system  They were all right in line with what I'm seeing reported in the bios.  I did not test these contacts while the system was under load however, so I may need to do it again.

  • Problem with downgrading bios. MSI P67A-GD65 (B3).

    Hi!
I'm having problems with downgrading my bios from version 4.3 to 1.19. I want to downgrade, because 4.3 doesn't want to boot when I use xmp settings for my RAM ( that might be related to my CPU since I have i5 2500k which is 32nm and 4.3 version of BIOS is recommended for 22nm processors ). When I try to flash with the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool I'm getting an error: "Rom file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID". I've ran out of ideas how to downgrade my bios so I'm asking you for help. My specs:
    MOBO: MSI P67A-GD65 (B3)

  • [MSI P67A-GD65]. Quick and dirty question: Is there a Windows 8 option?

    Hello everyone,
I have a P67A-GD65(b3), with a Sapphire R9 280x with a GOP Bios. Windows 8.1 are installed in a gpt partition, the Windows Boot Manager is booting the machine. I have the latest beta bios installed (E7681.443).
My question is: Does this bios have the Windows 8 options (like fast/secure boot etc)?
I can't seem to be able to find them anywhere.
Are these options supported with another bios?
The bios is flashed using the forum tool, and all the relevant instructions (remove power, reset etc).
    Thanks in advance.

hi hpstg, did u run good on windows 7 with latest bios for your mobo and your amd gpu ?
im having issues with my amd 7950 gpu...  with latest mobo bios beta....   i get intermitint crashes...
This has nothing to do with the OP's question.
As for his question, I do not see any win 8 features on that board. I may be wrong, but if there were, somewhere in the bios release notes you would see "Win 8 Support"

  • MSI P67A-GD65 Turning on and off

    Hi ppl,
Well, the thing is like this, I bought a new gaming rig (specs after this chit chat XD) and everytime I start the system it goes on and off (just 1 Power Phase led on when this happens), even when I plug the power cable off the cpu the system will try to start again for the last time. The system turned on just 1 time and let me flashed the BIOS to v.1.7, after that I could start windows 7 without problems then rebooted to make sure everything was ok and everything went crazy again as stated before.
    My specs are:
Intel 2600K @stock setting (how couldnt be at stock settings if cant ( ) start my system)
    MSI P67A-GD65
Kingwin LZ 1000W (already tested on my cousin PC)
2x4Gb G-SKILL @ Stock Settings (already tried using a single module on all off the slots)
    CoolerMaster V6GT Cooler
    2x320GB Western Digital 6 Gb/s
CoolerMaster Cosmos S Case (already tried to turn the system on outside of the case)
Well this is it, hope I can get some help.
    Thanks.

  • USB enumeration takes up to 20 seconds after wakeup or bios boot on P67A-GD65

    Hi all,
Just bought my new rig. It is described in my signature. Unfortunately I found two issues with my current setup. The first issue is in a separate post.
I'm using a P67A-GD65 motherboard. My USB keyboard and mouse are immediately detected the first time I start up my computer (cold boot), but when I do a suspend (to S3) and resume it usually takes quite a while before the mouse and keyboard are enumerated again. I can see this as the mouse and keyboard light up when they are ready for use. It sometimes takes up to 20 seconds, but the delay differs everytime. Occacionally the mouse and keyboard are immediately lighting up after I press the resume button, which is the behaviour you expect. On my previous pc I never had issues with enumeration after a resume.
When I restart the PC, the bios usually gets stuck in Post code B4 (USB HOTPLUG) for quite a while as well. It is probably trying to enumerate the mouse and keyboard. This can also take up to 10 seconds. During a cold boot this does not happen and B4 is completed instantly.
This issue is quite annoying, as I have to wait for quite a while before I can use my keyboard and mouse after I wakeup the PC. It beats the principle of instant-on, and sometimes it is faster to cold-boot the thing.
    I tried both V1.7, V1.8 and V1.9B1 bioses.
When I disconnect one of the devices (only mouse, or only keyboard), the enumeration is usually quicker, but still takes up to 5 seconds.
Could this be a bug in the Sandybridge chipset (it is not stepping B3), or is it something in the BIOS? Are any others having this issue and found a solution?

I've red through the P67 errata about USB and all of them have the status "No Plan to Fix". As being quite familiar with the USB 2.0 specification (I've once written an USB driver for an embedded system myself) I do not see any issues mentioned that could be related to enumeration problems during cold boot or resume. This seriously doubts me that the B3 release will fix my issue.
I will also put this problem in MSI support, but knowing how they did reply in my other issue report about the mouse not working in my BIOS I'm not so sure if they will take it seriously....

  • Problems after Ivy BIOS update For P67A-GD65

As far as I've understood reading intel.com, there's no need for chipset to support Intel smart connect. It just should be built into the BIOS. Or, probably, I just misread the requirements part here.
you are right. the problem is that the 4xx bios for p67 is a renamed z68 bios. that's why there are options like pcie-gen3 etc. and God knows what else they've just copied over to p67.
maybe you'd have tried the smart connect driver-package ... if you'd like to play with it?

  • MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) Power and Reset button wont work.

Right..i just bought this mobo.. Build the PC..Everything works fine...since i can open the pc from the button on the mobo..thing is:
The leds and HDD light work perfectly fine..
    Power On/Off wont work
    Reset wont work.
    The cables are connected properly
Power SW:Orange (Positive) at 6.. Negative at 8...
Reset SW:Blue (Positive) at 7.. Negative at 5.
Power LED and HDD Led work fine..
They just wont work.. Should i RMA the card or is it something else i am missing?
Obviously i checked the buttons themselves..removed the front panel..nothing seems weird..
The buttons worked perfectly fine ~1 hour before i went to get the new stuff ;p

Does the reset button work?  Have you tried using a screwdriver to short the pins?  It may be the case and not the MOBO.  Also, try reversing the connectors.
First image is of the reset switch on the MOBO.
The second image is of the pin layout.

  • P67A-GD65 (b2) stuck in boot loop after bad flash

    Hello,
My mainboard is stuck, I can't open bios setup, (even tho it appears in f11 menu), and it won't boot on any device.
I removed every hard drive and DVD, and tried to boot on DOS with a usb, but it won't even boot DOS, and no usb device appears in f11 menu (I tried every usb ports)
And I can't enter bios setup (it just reboots)
Initially I was trying to update my bios because some features I wanted were not in my old version. But I think Avast blocked the update program (E7681v43.exe opened in an usb) and when I restarted the bios flash failed, and my PC entered a boot loop. When I press f11, it's a new interface so some things in the bios updated.
The only message I get when I put the E7681v43.exe and E7681IMS.430, or the files for v1j (oldest version before ivy bridge support) on a fat32 usb stick (tried formatted, and formated with Rufus), a red message appears saying "bios me updated ... file not found."
Same thing if I try the MSIHQ flash utility, it doesn't work as my PC won't boot on the usb.
I think my motherboard is bricked and the only solution is to send it to msi to get a working bios.
My motherboard p67a gd65 (b2) (the one with bad sata 2 ports) and it doesn't appear in the product name list anymore to register it on msi...
It was bought the on the 19th of January 2011, I hope I can still ask for msi for help!
I'm looking forward to your opinions on my issue, and sorry for the long text.

Quote from: Svet on 24-September-13, 17:50:38
older b2 cannot be updated to the .4xx
you have to send the mobo to be replaced with newer revision
Thanks! do you know where can I ask for a replacement?
I can't register it on msi, and when I ask a question and I give the serial number it just abords...
I already send an email to msi France (I live in Belgium). But email are too slow usually.
and what about the secondary bios, no way to repair primary bios with it?

No it will flash only one, active one.
Thank You Svet. It`s nice to have new version of MSI HQ Forum USB flasher with ME update function  Great job!
Bit offtop, sorry but I have to ask. Is it technically possible that flasher eventually get option to flash both bios chips on motherboards like P67-GD65?
Or maybe it is good thing that it can flash only one chip for now(?) I do not understand consequences. Pro and cons of having me7 and me8 on pri/sec bios chips?
I do not want to make mistake (using MSI flash procedure) but wanna try new VDroop/Offset feature of Click Bios II. Maybe it will cure my over 1.4V auto voltage on 4,5GHz
PS: Sorry, my English seams to be horrible. I hope You can read my mind, hehe...

  • P67A-GD65 Hard Lockups

I recently built a Sandy Bridge system and I am having random sudden hard locks.  I will be browsing the net or playing a game and then...everything freezes up suddenly and I cannot do anything, like I'm stuck in a screen shot.  I am forced to manually hit the restart button.  Sometimes it will happen twice in an hour and sometimes it wont happen for a day.  I have updated BIOS to v1.7, turned on and off turbo mode, manually slightly increased my vcore, increased base clock to 101 (MHz), turned on and off power saving settings, tried sata 6 and sata 3 ports, ran MemTest, newest drivers from MSI site.  Also from day 1 the OC genie never worked, whenever I would try it it would freeze up at the windows loading screen.  I have been able to overclock manually and get it up to 4.7GHz and then got a blue screen while running 3dMark, but that was just for a short time while testing and have since reverted back to stock speeds and it still randomly hard locks.  My temps are always fine 32-50 C.  This is basically a core upgrade with some reused parts from last setup (which was rock solid always).
    Hardware:
    MSI P67A-GD65 (Flashed to V1.7)
    Intel i7-2600k
    COOLER MASTER Hyper N 520
    EVGA GTX 570
4Gigs Patriot DDR3-1066 CAS 7-7-7-20 (from last pc)
Zalman ZM850-HP PSU (from last pc)
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD6400AAKS HD (from last pc)
    Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Anyone have any ideas about how I could isolate what exactly the issue is? Bad mobo maybe? The lack of a stable system is really killing me.  Making this post from my laptop

I am having the same problems as you. Have not done all those tests that you have done tho. I have not overclocked or changed anything, its all default settings for me. I still run the default BIOS version. Was thinking of updating now but it seems like MSI has removed the v1.7 update.
Normally it happens like this. Im in a game and suddenly all gets frozen. Then I am disconnected from the game server (I run online games) and then the game hangs. Still I can alt-tab in to windows. Then I try to open task manager to see whats going on but it never shows... computer starts running slowly. Mouse and keyboard input work for 4 seconds at a time, and then stops working for 4 seconds, then works for 4 seconds... after a while the computer comes to a complete halt.
I have run chkdsk on my disks. I have checked all temperatures, all ok. I have a Corsair 850W which gives power to my:
    MSI P67A-GD65
    Intel i7-2600k
    ASUS GTX 570
    Noctua U-14
8 GB Corsair memory CAS 9
    Intel SSD 80GB Gen2
    WD 2TB Storagedisk
    2xseagate 500GB disks in RAID1
    2xsamsung 1TB disks in RAID1.
Currently I have removed all disks from port 2-5 in order to see if that is the issue, considering Intels pressrelease.

  • BIOS 4.1 - P67A-GD55

I recently upgraded my BIOS to version 4.1.  Bad decision, if it ain't broke don't fix it right?
The previous BIOS versions have not given me overclocking issues. In 4.1, if I set the clock multiplier 45, the BIOS reports the O/C is in affect (4.5GHz). However CPU-Z shows my clock speed as 3.3GHz if I boot into Win 7 (64-bit).  I'm in "standard mode" for the bios setup.  Any suggestions?  I don't get why my configuration settings are not being utilized.  Is CPU-Z not reading things correctly?
I also tried O/C Genie and CPU-Z still reads 3.3GHz as the clock speed.  Is the BIOS too new for these programs so they default to the stock clock speed as a reading?
Is there any way I could downgrade my BIOS? I tried to flash it and the older versions are not recognized.
Tried clearing the CMOS by pressing and holding the button on the back of the mobo with the PSU unplugged.  Still same results.
Also, I have screen shots, but how do I attach them with the img tags?

It's actually a good thing it didn't flash. Once you update to the Ivy UEFI/BIOS and ME8, you are stuck with it unless a method is developed to be able to restore ME7, the old Sandy line of BIOS's, and both chips for boards with have dual.

Use a hosting service such as Photobucket.
My guess is the settings in CPU Features are all wrong and the root of the problem.

Inspecting the power requirements for a typical system with your GPU indicates about 35A. see here https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards
As a first test can you install a less power hungry GPU ?
