Bitmaps won't smooth.

Hello again,
I'm loading some external images and trying to get them to smooth, but for some reason it's not happening. i've been trying everything i can find on the internet over the past 10 hours or so, and nothing's worked.
The code on my movieclip (first frame) is:
var Ldr:Loader=new Loader();
var UrlR:URLRequest=new URLRequest("myImage.jpg");
Ldr.x=340
Ldr.y=0
addChild(Ldr);
Ldr.load(UrlR);
all that works fine for getting the image on the stage.
i tried many variations of the following (immediately after the above code):
var myBitmap = new Bitmap(Bitmap(Ldr.content).bitmapData, "auto", true);
OR   Bitmap(Ldr.content).smoothing = true;
ETC.
I also tried:
stage.quality = StageQuality.BEST;
//on my first frame of main timeline, but my images were still jagged
my images are very high-res, so i know it isn't a resolution issue. anyway, they look crappy when they're sized down too. also, i'm pretty sure smoothing is the issue, because i have a very similar image in the library (a detail from the same shot, and similar resolution, etc.), and it looks great when i allow smoothing in the bitmap properties panel.
anyone know what's missing in my code?
thanks!
robin

ah... finally. it worked!  thanx

    There are fonts in the menus - helvetica without smoothing. Kinda like Windows 3. I installed this package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40619 to get helvetica but it's not in this package. At least the helvetica like on screenshots. How do I install this font in Arch?

  • G5 Dual 2 GHz won't smoothly play 720 or 1080 HD Quicktime Trailers

    Dual Processor Power Mac G5 2 GHz with 4 GB of RAM
    I could have sworn that my G5 used to be able to play all levels of HD movies smoothly as anything sometime during normal Tiger usage.
    Then one day, I noticed my G5 when on Tiger would stutter playing anything about 480.
    I thought the upgrade to Leopard would fix this. But just today I upgraded to 10.5.3 on this G5 (I used the upgrade option on the install DVD to upgrade from Tiger) and it STILL won't play HD trailers 720 or 1080 smoothly.
    is this supposed to be? Do I not have the minimum requirements to watch those kinds of resolutions anymore?
    I know this machine is 4 years old now, but seriously? That seems crazy to me.
    Does anyone else have this configuration and see similar or different behavior?
    thank you

    at least I finally hear of someone else w/ the same issue
    your machine should, in my opinion, completely be able to play HD quicktime movies.
    the funny thing for me is that once, I had 10.5.1 (or even 10.5.2) on a FW drive, and I COULD play them smoothly when booted from it
    and now that I have 10.5.3......I can't

  • Adobe AIR for Android - GPU Mode - Bitmap Auto-Smoothing Issue

    Hi everyone
    I'm having a bit of an issue with the AS3 bitmap object. I'm currently developing an 8-bit style pixel game for AIR for Android.
    This game is being developed at a very low resolution and is being scaled up to maintain the charm of an old retro game.
    One of the methods I'm using is drawing pixels directly to bitmap objects and scaling the object up to create the old look.
    When testing on a mobile device, this works beautifully when you set the rendering method to Direct but when you change
    the render method to GPU the visuals go all blurry and anti-aliased (it's as if the bitmap is being smoothed out). The mini map
    for example is rendered using the setPixel method and then scaled up 9 times. Looks great on my PC but once I export it to my phone
    it looks absolutely awful! This is no good as I want to keep the clean, solid pixel look to maintain the the old 8-bit feel and obviously
    I'd like to stick to GPU mode due to it's speed.
    Like I said, this only happens once you test on a mobile device in GPU mode - it doesn't do it on my main desktop machine or
    in Direct mode. I already have the stage quality set to low and I've tried setting the bitmap's smoothing property to false but
    it does nothing.
    Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get around this?

    How about first blit your image to a small bitmapData, then draw it on a large bitmapData (9X larger)?
    Like,
    var small_bmd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(SMALL_WIDTH, SMALL_HEIGHT, false);
    var large_bmd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(SMALL_WIDTH * 9, SMALL_HEIGHT * 9, false);
    var bm:Bitmap = new Bitmap(large_bmd, PixelSnapping.NEVER, false);
    var blitRect:Rectangle = new Rectangle(0, 0, 9, 9);
    var i:uint, j:uint, blitColor:uint;
    small_bmd.draw(SOURCE_IMAGE);
    large_bmd.lock();
    for(j = 0; j < SMALL_HEIGHT; j++){
         for(i = 0; i < SMALL_WIDTH; i++){
              blitColor = small_bmd.getPixel(i, j);
              blitRect.x = i * 9;
              blitRect.y = j * 9;
              large_bmd.fillRect(blitRect, blitColor);
    large_bmd.unlock();
    Not sure if the code works or not, but hopefully this helps.

  • Bitmap smoothing w/ loaded images

    I know there was a lot of stuff about this for AS2, but I
    cant seem to find anything more recent—and I am still having
    this problem! I have a sprite, with a loader (which I dont add to
    the stage). The loader loads a large image, scales it way down and
    then draws it. No matter how I do this, the resulting Image is
    always aliased. Setting the stage quality to 'best' did resolve
    this, but the site took too much of a performance hit otherwise.
    I have tried:
    1. adding the loader to the stage, and setting smoothing to
    true when content loads
    2. creating a new bitmap on load, with smoothing set to true
    (both in constructor and after)
    3. creating a shape on load and using bitmap fill, with
    smoothing on
    Sample code for all three is below, but #3 is the one I
    really want to use, because I need 9-slice scaling. What am I doing
    wrong?!!

    Your first try is the closest. The only thing is you need to
    add the bitmap to the stage, not the loader. And you need to wait
    for the content to load before you can create a bitmap of the
    _imageLoader.content. Try this:

  • 3D nonlinear fit + smoothing

    Hello,
     I am trying to fit or smooth a 3D set of data which comes from a CCD image (saved as a 32 bit bitmap ). I need to get rid of the small fringes that you can see in the bitmap attached ( hence smoothing of my data) and  find the phase of the sin function that describes the 3 big fringes . These big  fringes will shift for other CCD images that I have. The function that I need to fit with is a 2D gaussian multiplied by a sin(bx+cy+phase), where x and y are the pixels of the CCD. I was looking at the example of fitting 2D gaussian  surface with offset, but I am lost.
     Any ideas where to start from/ or the best solution for my problem?
    Thank you,
     Andrea

    Well, way too much code!!!
    Remember that the Fourier tools take 2D arrays directly. Here's a "quick and dirty" attempt:
    You should be able to get the frequency and phase of the components directly from the peaks in the complex FT.

    I'm importing a lot of images at once, and it would be nice

  • Using z and scaleZ to scale bitmap from Center

    I was wondering how I could setup an Image so when it loads, and I change its Z value, it doesnt keep shifting in reference to the upper left. Right now, when I change the Z value of a Sprite containing the Image, it appears to move x, y (even though I know they are not changing). I thought that by putting it inside of a sprite, and then moving the image to so that its center was at 0,0 inside the sprite, that when I changed the z value of the sprite and not of the bitmap itself, it would fix my problem, but its not.
    bmp = new Sprite();
    var bmp1:Bitmap;
    loader.contentLoaderInfo.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, fileLoaded);
    var bmpdata:BitmapData = Bitmap(loader.content).bitmapData;
    bmp1 = new Bitmap(bmpdata);
    bmp1.smoothing = true;
    bmp1.alpha = .7;
    bmp1.x = - bmp1.width/2;
    bmp1.y = - bmp1.height/2;
    var m:Matrix = bmp.transform.matrix;
    m.invert();
    bmp1.transform.matrix = m;
    bmp.addChild(bmp1);
    bmp.z = 800;

    Still waiting on some ideas on this. I thought that I might be able to use a matrix to fix my problem, but it again did not work.

  • Can I install Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection in my PC?

    Hi, I'm Kendo from Bangkok,Thailand.
    I'm using Windows 7 Ultimated 64 bit
    -CPU Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz
    -RAM 4 GB
    -Graphic Card Geforce 9500 GT
    I'm afraid that Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effect won't smooth as expected because Adobe recommends 8 GB of RAM but I have only 4 GB.
    Are the Premiere Pro and After Effect will run smoothly in my PC? or I must use Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection?
    P.S. I don't want to upgrade RAM to 8 GB.

    Download the CS6 Trial version from the Adobe website and see how it runs on your system.

    It's free and fully functional for 30 days. After that you must purchase it or it will stop working.

  • Flash MX2004 - Disappearing Images

    I am having a problem with images disappearing from the
    library (and therefore from the stage/movie). Hopefully someone can
    help me.
    Here's what is happening: I imported several (~20) jpgs to
    the library (bitmap properties: allow smoothing, jpeg compression,
    use imported jpeg data) - then convert to symbol (graphic). I use
    the symbol (graphic) in the movie, not the bitmap. Everything seems
    to work ok and I save and close my file (.fla). Then, when I open
    the file again, images randomly disappear from the library (both
    the bitmap and the symbol). The places in the movie where I had
    instances of the image, are now blank with the circle in the middle
    of where the image was and the crosshair in the upper left of where
    the image was supposed.
    My naming convention - All bitmaps begin with bmp_. All
    graphics begin with gfx_. There are no spaces in the image name...
    I use the underscore _ when I need to separate words in the image
    name.
    I've used motion tweening on all of the graphics - the ones
    that disappeared and also on the ones that are still there.
    I've checked the properties of the disappeared images - and
    the alpha is not changed to 0... I did not lock the W/H/X/Y.
    The images that disappeared are not all on the same scene.
    I don't know what is causing this... and I'm about to pull my
    hair out trying to figure it out!! Any ideas?
    Thanks for helping.

    Never seen such a thing, butcheck to be certain that the
    images are

    Alternatively you might try importing pngs and do the jpeg

  • Quality (aliasing) of downscaled flex component created in flash cs 5.5

    Hi!
    I have created a iPhone-Slider-Button in Flash. All vector graphics in Flash I've converted into bitmap data.
    For all these bitmaps I allowed smoothing in the library.
    Then I've converted the Flash MovieClip into a Flex component.
    Then I load the component in Flex with the <local: tag which works great! Because the component is too big I have to scale it down in the Flex Design view.
    Here is the result in 100% an an iPad:
    You can see the bad quality of the white text. It would be great to be free in choosing any component size (proportional scale) in Flex with a smoothed look.
    Who can help? Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
    For the flash only swc, you dont need the initialize functionality. As
    mentioned in the post, intialize() function is called when the
    FilePublisher component is added to a Flex container. In the flash only
    swc we have decoupled it from Flex and its mechanisms, and it required
    us to eliminate intialize functionality. So, calling
    filePublisher.subscribe() should instantiate all the needed variables.
    In summary, the thread you mentioned is Flex specific, and doesn't apply
    to the scenario you mentioned. Subscribing to the filePublisher manually
    might fix your issue.
    If you are still stuck, Can you post your code and debug logs if possible,
    Thanks
    Arun

  • Canon EOS 5D mark 3 Capable with iMovie 11?

    I have some H.264 video files from Canon EOS 5D Mark iii. I try to edit them with iMovie 11. But it doesn't edit smoothly.
    But so far my Nikon D3100 DSLR is working great and smoothly with it.
    who can tell me why?

    Hi, Matty Apple, I'm very glad to hep you solve the problem.
    iMovie 11 supports to edit the recorded H.264 video files from 5D Mark iii, but it need a powerful Mac system with a large memory. If not, you won't smoothly edit the files. Besides, as far as I know, you can't edit the files with original quality.
    You can use the professional Mac Video Converter from Brorsoft to transcode Canon 5D Mark video to Apple Intermediate Codec. It is easy to use, you can have a try.

  • Flash making rotated images crunchy

    greetings Flash gurus,
    anytime i rotate a bitmap image, it gets VERY crunchy. the
    edges are especially noticeable (although it is clear that the
    entire image gets affected). this happens even with high quality
    mode set for the resulting swf. the resulting bitmap looks like it
    has been sent back to to 1990, rotated by some cheap process, and
    then returned to 2008. :( seriously, is Flash no better at
    interpolating images than this ?
    (yes i know that Flash was originally designed as a vector
    engine (I am an old Flash user getting back into it) ... but the
    image handling looks no better than when i first used images with
    Flash back in the day)
    i am really hoping that someone here can tell me how to
    improve this image rotation/scaling issue -- please tell me there
    is a setting somewhere that allows me to turn on "high(er) quality"
    bitmap interpolation... an entire project depends on this !
    thank you very much in advance.

    Hi Dave, thanks for your input.
    (what follows is not addressed to you, but rather to Adobe,
    hopefully for the benefit of the Flash community at large... )
    with all of the other feature additions and optimizations
    that Flash has had over the last 4-5 years (video support, image
    filters, actionscript 2 & 3, data remoting, etc.) it just
    surprises me that this has not yet been addressed. it is SO
    basic...
    in fact, smooth bitmap interpolation is one of the most basic
    visual requirements that any pixel-conscious developer (or viewer)
    would expect. YES it impacts performace, but give the developer the
    OPTION of choosing between (or balancing) performance and
    smoothness. (Adobe are you listening?)
    right now my test anim (with crunchy bitmaps) runs
    super-smoothly up to 100 fps (the bitmaps are quite small). it
    would be perfectly OK if it only played back at 30 or even 20 fps
    but *with* smoothly interpolated (rotated) bitmaps.
    if Adobe hasn't added this kind of optimization in by now, i
    hope they realize what an eyesore it is and implement a modern
    interpolation solution sooner rather than later.
