Bizarre error message

When I attempt to start iTunes, an error message pops up informing me that "The folder path 'iTunes Music' contains an invalid character." I have tried to reinstall the software only to receive the same error message, changed to "Cannot install" instead of "cannot open." I tried to check the names of every song in my iTunes library to see which may have contained an invalid character, deleting some songs, but it didn't work. I've resorted to downloading winamp, which, incidentally, can read all of the songs in the folder path "iTunes Music." What's going on?

Verify/repair your disk first (not just permissions), as described here:

  • Bizarre error message when trying to add BT Vision...

I am getting a bizarre message when trying to add BT Vision to my BT Infinity broadband which is due to install on Thursday.  I'm hoping it is only due to the fact the order has not completed and will be fine in a week.  I did speak to an "advisor" but I helpfully was told the line cannot be checked until the current order is complete and I'd obviously want to know if there will be any problem with me getting BT Vision prior to that!
Has anyone else seen this error message and have any advice?  Note that I am definitely not in any trial and the 0800 number is now dead.

  • I am starting to get a bizarre error message.

I'm working in Mail.app, when occasionally I look at a new email, subject line is good, everything else seems normal, but the message itself reads:
"The message from "[sendername][messagesubject]” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
This happens every now and again. After I see this on one message, many other messages in my inbox read like this. Restarting the machine will sometimes fix it, sometimes not. I did a permission repair that worked for a day or two, but now the problem has returned. Any ideas?

  • Error Messages when trying to Backup Nokia Photos

I'm trying to backup Nokia Photos so I can transfer to a new PC.
I was on version 1.5.242 and got a simple error message after the initialisation that it couldn't backup .. no other explanation.
I downloaded and installed Version 1.6 and now I cam getting a bizarre error message that is about 3 pages long and refers to sql, database errors and all sorts of other gubbins that mean absolutely nothing to a standard user like myself.  I'm not totally computer illiterate but that message was way beyond my comprehension.
    Can anyone help?
Is there another way to transfer my files over to my new pc other than the non-functioning backup option?
    Thanks

  • Bizarre Error with backwards play button

I am getting this bizarre error message that appears with a backwards play button and tells me "This computer will reboot in 5 minutes AFTER YOU CLICK OK. Please save everything you are working on and log out by choosing Log Out at the bottom of the Apple Menu." It appeared about a week ago and after I rebooted, I lost all of the icons in the menu bar at the upper right. I was able to get all of the icons back but now am seeing this error again. So far, it seems like it can be ignored, but I'm not sure if it will continue letting me do so. Screenshot of the issue is below.

I'm confused by what this means, "I've tried eliminating the initial stop(); script, but then it doesn't play the movie at all and just goes to the next frame." It would seem that going to the next frame would be the movie playing? But in any event, yes, if your remove the stop then there is no reason for the playhead to stop on that screen and so it would just keep going AND in 4 seconds (more or less) it would also execute that function so you would be in a world of hurt.
As for the my_timedProcess variable. That is just a number that will allow you to stop the 4 (more or less) second wait. Suppose you had a replay button that allowed the welcome to be played again. Well in that case you would want to stop the function from getting called during the replay so you could add some code to the replay button like this:
    clearTimeout(my_timedProcess);
Also it seems a little strange that you are passing your function the number 1. Why are you doing that? You don't seem to be using arg1.
Finally onto your real reason for posting. I have no idea why that wouldn't work. Have you tried it with IE6 on a non-hand held device? Is the real problem the 6-ness or the mobile-ness?
Back in the day when IE 6 was more common there were occasional cache/timing issues that could often be very tricky to diagnose. Are you sure that all your content has loaded?
Are you sure that your client has the correct Flash plugin installed for IE 6 on their device? Many times the, "It doesn't work on this one platform/computer/for this one person" issue is really that the person doesn't have the correct plug-in installed -- EVEN WHEN they swear they do. Really you would be surprised at how often that is the case.
Other than that I don't know what could be causing it.

  • Bizarre repeating error message

I regularly get the following error message: "The application NASCAR DashboardClient quit unexpectedly" with the option to close, report, or reopen.
I haven't the foggiest idea what this is referring to. Searching my system, I find nothing. I believe this may be connected to a widget, but I do not now and never in the past have had anything NASCAR related. I can't find anything in the forums about this type of error, but I get it fairly regularly and never can recognize that anything that's supposed to be available on the computer is missing.
Any ideas what the heck this is, what it's referring to, and what in the world I can do to either fix it or get rid of it.
    Much thanks.

Have you checked Dashboard to see if you have the widget running? You can also check Login Itmes in your Accounts preferences for an item that may be set to run at startup. You should also check the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ and /Library/StartupItems/ folders to see if a startup item is installed.
Have you tried searching your computer? Download Easy Find - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and use it to search the computer. Or you can enable Spotlight's System Files option to search in the System and Library folders.

I am using Windows Vista, and can no longer play any of my

error message: "Macromedia Projector has stopped working." I
have tried redownloading the games again, tried redownloading the

I suddenly started getting the same error message and was reaching my wits end in trying to find a solution.
This may sound bizarre, and you may not have the same situation as I found, but check your system/Windows date setting.
Somehow, the year on my system had become 2096. I corrected it, and bingo! PSE 8 Editor works again.

  • Automatic Downloads and Strange Error Message: "You can auto-download purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days"

    Hi gang-
Yesterday I noticed that iTunes on my iMac had not auto-downloaded several new songs that I had recently purchased on my iPhone.    In iTunes Preferences, under Store -> Automatic Downloads, I always have Music selected so all songs purchased from any device using my Apple ID normally download automatically.
To troubleshoot this, I double-checked my Preferences and sure enough, Music was de-selected under Automatic Downloads.   I then Selected it and clicked OK.   Here's where it gets weird and I get this error message:
This computer is already associated with an Apple ID.  You can auto-download purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 84 days.
I read and re-read this message and none of it seems to apply to me.   I have only one Apple ID.   I am currently logged in with iTunes to that one Apple ID.   All my iTunes Music ever has been purchased with that one Apple ID.   I am not trying to associate this computer or any other with a different Apple ID.
I logged iTunes out and then back in again and tried all the above- but same error message.
So, as it is now, I am unable to turn on Automatic Downloads in iTunes.
Anyone know what the heck is going on?
    Thanks!
    Dave

    Hey gang-
Okay, this gets more and more bizarre.   I sent a support email to Apple and basically they said  "...it seems that someone else associated your Mac with their Apple ID. That's the reason your purchases won't download."
Yikes!   My wife and I live alone- and we have exactly one and only one Apple ID.    Would somebody have needed physical access to my iMac to do that?
Support then said "You can view which devices or computers are currently associated, remove unused devices or computers, and see how long before they can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer."
Okay- so I logged into My Account in iTunes.   On the list of associated devices, my own iMac is NOT on that list.   But I am logged in under the same Apple ID I've had for years on that iMac.
So my big question right now is...if my iMac (that I've owned for 5 years) has somehow been dis-associated from my Apple ID, how do I find out what Apple ID it is associated with?
Thanks gang for trying to help me unravel a mystery.
    Dave
PS- Here's an Apple Tech article on iTunes associations, but it doesn't really go beyond what we've discussed above:

  • ITunes Store Won't Load, Won't Show Error Message

Alright--I've worked my way out of messy computer problems before, but this one's got me pretty well stumped. I mean, even for a PC using Apple products this is a bit ridiculous.
When I open up iTunes, all of the media works just fine, but when I try to navigate to the Store, the white "iTunes Store" page comes up (which I know it does while loading), and the loading bar locks up about halfway through "Accessing iTunes Store" without showing any error messages of any kind. Obviously, refreshing the page does nothing, and neither does opening it up in a separate window. iTunes allows me to sign in, and to view and edit my account/billing information, but even from there I can't worm my way into the Store (via the black menu bar atop the page). Before you say anything, YES my internet is working--hence the online discussion post, so I don't even want to hear it. And I know it isn't the actual store because I can access it on another computer.
I've had this problem for at least a week...possibly since I updated iTunes, but I can't say for sure, so I'm not about to assume there was something faulty in the update.
I found out that the Apple Mobile Device essentially murders my processor (the CPU was maxing out at 100% whenever the program ran, and it was slowing the entire computer down significantly), so I shut that down to see if iTunes was just freezing up under CPU stress like the rest of my computer. While other programs went back to functioning at normal speed, the Store still wouldn't load.
My OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
I have the latest version of iTunes 64-bit.
As far as I can tell I don't have any firewalls or bizarre security problems that are blocking access to the site.
I've tried removing iTunes from my computer and downloading the most recent--and supposedly the most compatible--version.
Admittedly, iTunes never really worked properly on my laptop--syncing, for instance, will take an ungodly amount of time and then crash, resulting in a wiped iPod that needs to take an hour to reload everything--but this is new.
I don't suppose there could be any consistent compatibility problems with running iTunes in a 64-bit OS?
I've read on some of these discussion threads that even in iTunes 64-bit a goodly amount of the programs are still 32-bit, including iTunes itself, and when I run the 64-bit version of iTunes, TM shows itunes.exe 32 gearing the program.
Sometimes problems that are this particular can result from removing important files or programs from the computer, not realizing what part they had in other programs. The only iTunes-related program I've ever deleted was Bonjour, and from the sounds of it, Bonjour doesn't (or at least shouldn't) affect the funcionality of iTunes at all, so I've ruled that out, too.
So I've exhausted my personal knowledge of what could possibly be the problem.
Either it's something simple and I'm just overcomplicating it (which happens a lot to me, actually), or it's one of those quirky, untraceable issues that exist for the sole purpose of inconveniencing people, in which case, C'est la Vie.
I'm not so much concerned with the fact that I can't access the Store as I am with the fact that I simply cannot figure this one out.
    It vexes me.
Any input is welcome--I'm way open to suggestions. I figured I'd try discussions before calling Support, just in case it is something trivial.
I wanted to tag this discussion, but the Powers That Be wouldn't have it.
    ~D.

Ditto. I am having the exact same problem. There is no doubt in my mind it was the latest update that has caused the problem. I too have followed all the suggested fixes and nothing. A second laptop which uses an older version of iTunes has no problem accessing the store.  I guess I can still make my purchases there and transfer them to my computer.  I was also having CPU issues as a result of the update and went to my Start programs and disabled iTunes Helper  (the only iTunes that appeared there). Coincidence or not, my CPU issues are solved for now. Can you tell me how you shut down the Apple Mobile Device in case I need to do that too.  Also, I was going to Restore my computer to an earlier date to revert back to the older iTunes version, but I seem to be past that point. Does anyone know if you restore to the earliest point possible (about a week in my case, will even older Restore points come up then?  I really would like to undo this stupid update,  Yes, Apple needs to do something about this because no one will be able to purchase stuff anymore once they update to this latest version.   I submitted this issue to Tech Support and waiting for a response.

  • Bizarre error when trying to open .fla files in Windows Explorer

"Windows cannot find '(path of the .fla file INCLUDING the filename)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." error message given when I click on any .fla file in Windows Explorer to open it in Flash 8 Pro (as I've ALWAYS done before). Flash opens but no file is opened in it. If I click the fla file a second time THEN it opens in Flash (which is already opened from the first attempt.). This never happened before. I have 2 more laptops that work fine (as did THIS Win XP-SP3 pc until about a week ago), ALL with Flash 8 Pro (1 laptop w/XP-SP3 - just like the main PC with the new 'problem'), 1 laptop w/Vista Ultimate SP2. Even compared registry entries from XP laptop side-by-side - no differences at all. Everything is literally 'word-for-word'. Also compared FileMap.xml - no differences. Reinstalled Flash (no success) then out of frustration reinstalled XP with full disk format (and then everything else all over again - took 3 days) - still no success. Files open from the Flash 'File\Open' menu no problem - just not from Windows Explorer anymore. Nothing is different than before (when everything was ok - same installed programs, apps, updates, exact same 'set-up' as far as Windows drivers, system settings, prefs etc goes. VERY bizarre!

As you know Flash 8 was a Macromedia product. They don't exist anymore - being absorbed by the all powerful, all seeing, all knowing Adobe Systems (sort of reminds me of the BORG on Star Trek - you know 'Resistance is futile').
I tried literally everything - to no avail. Since I did try everything - up to and including a complete HDD full format and OS reinstall (which only accomplished deleting several days of my life that I'll never get back) I have come to the conclusion that it must be something inherent in the program that only affects installations performed after 12/31/12.
My 2 laptops have no issues because the program has been on them for years and has never been reinstalled, but I would be willing to bet if I had to reinstall it on them I would start getting the same problem (since it's now past 12/31/12).
On 12/31/12 Adobe did something in a way 'similar' to CS2 owners by rendering the activation of CS2 products inoperative. I found this out the hard way after I had just reinstalled everything while trying to deal with this issue. I had to spend hours on the phone to finally get the news from 'Dave' in Indonesia that Adobe decided to just arbitrarily render their CS2 customers paid-for software obsolete and inoperative! (Out of fairness they DID provide 'replacement' apps that don't require activation - thus avoiding MEGA lawsuits).
Anyway - I'm just saying that software makers can build anything into their product, including date specific limitations without the consumer ever being aware of it.
With the exception of this issue it otherwise works fine, and I guess I'll just have to deal with it from now on by dbl-clicking on Fla files TWICE instead of once - otherwise affectionately known as 'quadruple-clicking', (but if you count closing the error window then it's 'quintuple-clicking').
I don't mind being proven wrong - so if somebody out there knows what is going on here (besides my theory of software developers time limitations resulting in complete world domination) feel free to reply. I'll get an email telling me someone replied and I'll come to this post and have a look.
(suggestions to reinstall will be ignored - been there, done that)

  • Mac Mail & POP Error Message - Unable to receive, Able to send

I am in a bind -- our company (okay, me) had gotten fed up using Yahoo Small Business email (multiple problems with customer service, they deleted my email, their tech fixes take weeks, I could go on and on...), so we switched to Network Solutions, a company I've used personally and been pretty happy with. HOWEVER, we've switched over and a remote party who uses Mac Mail to access his email set up using the exact settings suggested by Network Solutions and is unable to receive email. He's able to send it (using Earthlink as the outgoing mail server), but he's unable to receive it, and it's becoming a BIG pain.
    He's running:
    Mac OS 10.4.6
    Mac Mail 2.0.7
    He receives the error message:
"The server error encountered was: The server "mail.latitude-entertainment.com" cannot be contacted on port 110."
He operates wirelessly using a home router for multiple computers and has Earthlink DSL.
One bizarre twist: He's even not able to access the webpage for webmail (http://mail.latitude-entertainment.com)
At first I thought it was a firewall issue, but he doesn't believe he has any firewall software installed.
Needless to say, I'm an admin here looking like a fool in front of the big wigs. Not a good position. Network Solutions runs me down their usual list of things to look for, but not looking at the computer, I'm running blind (and he's not in a position to contact tech support himself).
    Any help out there?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
Probably the number one thing check and/or experiement with, is the form of the Username entered in the Mail Preferences when setting up the account. Mail is very precise about whether the form is the portion of the email address in front of the "@domain", or the entire email address. The standard will be set by the server, of course, Mail will not take Username from any place, other than the Username entry box in the preference, and not from the email address entry box.
Have him try it each way. Do you access this server with Mail 2.0, or otherwise?

  • Error Message After Updating flash

I just finished reformatting my hard drive and i was using
the internet. I got this message at the bottom of my computer
"there is a new version of micromedia flash click here to update"
so i clicked it. Now whenever i go to a web site that uses flash i

    Hi Pat,
When I click on the link to http://get.adobe.com/uk/flashplayer/ I am
redirected to http://get.adobe.com/es/flashplayer/  which is also where I
end up if I pick any European country with English next to it from the
country options on the bottom left of the adobe install flash page.
I bought a new laptop last year with windows 8 which has since been updated
to 8.1  I am not sure when/how I installed Flash but it was definitely
listed in add/remove programs and I uninstalled it this morning.  However
IE does still report that Flash is installed. I think I am just going to
leave things alone, if something that doesn't have Flash needs it I will
look again.  But somebody at adobe does need to look into the bizarre
redirect to an install page in Spanish.

  • "there are no TV shows in your itunes libray" error message

I get this error message when I go to front row to watch TV shows,
I have a brand new mac mini, the latest versions of itunes etc. and I have just bought a couple of TV shows from the itunes store - they show up in itunes, they have the box next to them ticked, I can watch them in itunes, but they don't show up in front row - video,
bizarrely they do show up in the music part of front row under the playlists part under "purchased" but of course if I play them there then I just get the sound and no image as if it were a song.
    Can anyone help?

I had the same issue Kate was having (error message reading "There are no __ in your iTunes library," where __ could be movies, TV shows, music videos, etc.). My media files WERE correctly tagged by using the "Video Kind" feature Woggledog referred to, but I was still having trouble.
It turned out that the 1.3 update to Front Row solved the problem; that update was geared primarily to improving compatibility between iTunes and Front Row. You can download it via the "Software Update..." program (under the Apple menu), or here on Apple's support website.
