Blinking Graphics

I have used a JPanel with several other panels including JScrollPane and such. I'm having problems with the screen blinking everytime I do something GUI related on the applet.
I turned doublebuffering on the parent container but this didn't do anything.
Anyone have any idea how this could be solved? Could it be because I'm using GridBagConstraints?
Thanks in advance

Well.. I will try that.. but it seems like everytime I move the scrollbars in my GUI the blinking happens. That's when I move the scrollbars in chunk increments. When I do unit increments/decrements it doesn't blink much.
Why is this so?

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Retina display purchased in Nov. 2014.  When surfing the net areas of the screen will sometimes begin to display distorted or blinking graphics.  The distoreded area are usually about 2" high by 3" long of either blinking text or filled many small rectangles of distorted graphics.  I ran diagnostics and no problems found.  Here is a link to a video of the problem.

    Howdy dalefromdeatsville,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where you're seeing graphical distortion on your Mac's display, please follow the instructions below.
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • Java causing three-finger tap to fail

I just recently noticed a really.... REALLY bad bug in Java on the mac. Confirmed it affects Safari and Chrome. Java is messing up the 3-finger tap gesture that looks up the definition of a word (a word tapped with three fingers... for those who are unaware... it's an awesome feature). When you do the three-finger tap gesture, the little pop-up window closes right away, sometimes instantaneously.
I last saw this bug in Lion.
It's now back in MOUNTAIN LION~!!!!
I figured it's Java because I also get the blinking graphics glitches in Safari and when I disable Java and Javascript, I can execute the three-finger tap gesture without the pop-up window automatically closing.
Also noticed this problem only happened after the last Safari 6.0.2 update but it also affects the gesture in Chrome for some really weird reason.

Found the solution to the problem: reinstall JAVA:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
The link above gives you the standalone Java installer. For Pete's sake... all that digging around. There have been threads on this same problem and people asking how to de-install and re-install Java .... well there's the solution right above!

  • When switching the graphics chip, screen faintly blinks once.

    Hi,
First, this question isn't related with the flickering in some MacBooks Pro models or configurations. It is more sutile situation.
I read something about this in another post, but I have not been able to find it again until now.
When I change the graphics mode between the integrated Intel HD chip and discrete nVidia chip, the screen blinks slightly as a small and subtle wink (increase brightness). Yesterday I visited the Genius Bar and I looked into other computers and this did not happen. The technician could see well, but did not give me any answers and I'm not willing to give the computer without any prior guidance.
Among the solutions that I read was that of reinstalling Mac OS X. I did, but the situation continues.
Is most noticeable when going from Intel to nVidia chip.
    Does this happen to someone?
    Greetings.
PS: It is in a MacBook Pro Mid. 2010 model.

In fact, is both a curiosity and something that I want to resolve if possible.
What was in the video was simply the change between graphics mode using gfxCardStatus, a simulation of what happens automatically when the system performs the change.
I had not seen the last line of BSteely, I am sorry. In reality I understand that it is not serious problem, but I draws attention to the note that does not happen in other systems. Thus, I would like to know if it is, for example, in a series of chips with this type of difference.
This is my second MacBook Pro (I had one of 13" until recently and opted to change it). I have seen lately some items of hardware with defects (in fact, the current is the third computer that I have received after two previous problems with hard drives), and I would like to know if it works as expected. That is...
    Greetings.

Click here for information; if the computer beeps three or fewer times, remove and reinsert the computer's RAM. If it beeps four or more times, it needs to be repaired. If it's a G5, it will ignore RAM modules that aren't part of a matching pair.

  • Graphics "blink" in FCP

I am building commercials using FCP 5, Photoshop, and Motion 2. I imported PNG files into Motion from Photoshop. I animated them in Motion, and exported the Motion project into FCP. Everything plays fine in Motion, and it plays fine in the viewer window in FCP. However, when I drop the file in a FCP sequence, the program will loose a frame. It's not a dropped frame. FCP shows the background track in my Motion project for 1 frame. The PNG graphics will also "blink" out for one frame. I must have a setting wrong somewhere. Can anyone help me?
    Dual 2.7 ghz G5, 1TB RAID   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I've been doing that, as well. However, on my last project, the background video's gap didn't correspond to when my graphics dropped out. I couldn't just cut out a frame. My workaround was to create a new Motion project with just those graphics in it, then paste that over the missing frame.

I have a Dual Core Mac Mini and works fine while I'm on my desktop working, iTunes and other programs but when I use Front Row to watch Podcasts, Movies etc. it blinks out on me and seems to like go to sleep on me and when I press a button on the remote it wakes up and for a few seconds keeps a live image and then blinks out again.
Any help or known issues? thank you! - JRider

I've been having the same issue but maybe slightly different. I have a Mac Mini and an InFocus X1A projector. When Im working on the Mac everything is beautiful, but when I go into Front Row, beyond the first menu, the image blinks and the projector seems to have trouble holding the resolution signal; frequently goes blank and reports the resolution of the Mini and after 2-3 seconds go back to the image. Any thoughts? I upgraded to the latest, 10.5.1 and I wonder if there's an issue there with that.
    Thanks very much

  • Onboard and PCI-E Graphics shows blinking black screen on 8.1

I have a homebrewed 3rd Gen Core i5 on an Intel DQ77MK motherboard which has onboard graphics. I also have an nVidia Quadro FX 3500 PCI-E graphics cards.
The Quadro has two DVI outputs connected to two monitors, I connected a third to the onboard graphics. So I have three monitors.
This worked fine with Windows 7. I go to install windows 8.1 and I turned off auto-updates and all the auto device driver junk. I installed the Intel drivers and the nVidia Drivers and three monitors working fine. I go to update to grab a package to remove
that stupid "SecureBoot isn't configured properly" watermark and I reboot to black screens with a cursor and nothing else. I reboot to the BIOS and turn off the integrated graphics and I can get back in - but I really want my triple monitors.

black screens with a cursor and nothing else.
So, if there is a cursor, it's not really "black", just blank.  But to be really clear "cursor" means an underscore at the top of the screen, or something else?  I have seen the former myself but don't really know what it means.  Also it has
only happened occasionally and I can't remember whether it shows on both of my monitors when it happens?  I think that when I have seen that I have had to unplug some other USB devices to get past that symptom.  E.g. my usual tricks with Win-P or
Ctrl-Alt-Delete or Shift-F10 etc. did nothing--no beeps and no drive light activity.
A reason that it could be important to know if the underscore appears on all monitors is that sometimes the boot seems to get confused about which monitor is primary, so if both monitors have different attributes (as mine do) then perhaps the symptom
could be understood as the wrong monitor getting the controls that were meant for another?
reboot to the BIOS and turn off the integrated graphics and I can get back in
That sounds like a driver problem but I don't know for which component, e.g. WinPE? Boot Manager?  OS?  So instead of doing that have you tried using the Advanced Boot Option to use low resolution video (AKA VGA mode)?  The BCD allows even
other video related settings.  While you are having problems it would be a good idea to turn on the Boot menu prompt, even if you don't have multiple partitions to boot, just to make it easier to use those options.  FWIW a surprise for me when I
tried this is that we are not restricted to what drivers the OS can use later.  E.g. I just used Win-P once in the OS and could make everything work normally after that.
Another thing that you could try is tracing your boot activity with xbootmgr and then finding out what is different for your two cases.
    Good luck

  • Z77A-GD65 Multiple BIOS Issues - B4 Hang, Splash Screen Blinking

Back in November 2012, I built a home server with a Z77A-GD65.  Lately, I've noticed some strange things happening that I've been trying to research but to no avail.
First off, I get the B4 code hang-up whenever I'm booting.  This doesn't matter if it's a cold boot or a reboot, it hangs on B4 for about 10-15 seconds, flashes 92 really quick, and then goes to A2 which it stays for another 5 or so seconds.  After that I get the MSI splash screen for about 1 second, then it blinks 5 times.  After that it goes into Windows just fine.
The blinking is a new issue, the B4 hang is not.  I've read from multiple posts that this is a USB issue.  When I disable USB legacy support, the issue goes away, but of course then I can't have legacy support.  I have yet to figure out what exact device is causing it.  In the process of trying to figure this out, I updated BIOS to A.A0.  After updating to this version of BIOS the splash screen blinks 5 times before going to the "Starting Windows" splash screen.  This is a more difficult issue to figure out why it's doing this because if you search for "BIOS" and "flash" or "flashes" or "flashing", you typically get results for flashing your BIOS.   Hence, why I'm using the term "blinking".  But even then I can't really find a solution out there.
I also happened to see that the website for the Z77A-GD65 is showing a newer BIOS version, but I'm unable to flash this (at least using M-Flash).  I threw it on a USB, re-enabled USB legacy and whenever I click on it to install, the BIOS screen hard locks.  The screen just freezes exactly where it's at in the BIOS and the mouse is dead.  However, I can CTRL+ALT+DEL on the keyboard and it will reboot the system so I don't need to power cycle the computer.  Not sure why this is happening either.  Perhaps I need to flash this a different way?  Maybe I don't need to flash this at all?
I could really use some input here on why this is happening.
As for the specs on my system, they're as follows:

    Probably a USB device problem.
This is a candidate, as well as mouse and keyboard. Disconnect USB devices one at a time to find the culprit.
A lot of devices running. PSU a +12V single rail or is it multi rail? A rail going to the graphics or components may not be enough amps. My best guess is the card reader.
    For UEFI/BIOS flashing, select your mainboard here and use the forum flash method;
I'll definitely try unplugging some of these USB devices to see if that helps with the B4 hang issue.
As for the PSU, according to the description for it on Newegg:  "Four industry-leading independent +12v rails are provided for more stable and safer power output."  It has two rails going to the GPU.  The GPU is a new addition to the system and so I wasn't running it until recently.  The issues were occurring beforehand, but you're right that this PSU is underpowered for the rig considering PowerColor recommends a minimum of 500w.  I'm going to be buying a larger capacity one sometime in the very near future.  Any recommendations on good modular PSU's?  What's a good way to tell what wattage to get?
Thanks for letting me know about the forum flash method.  I'll be back later when I have some results.

  • [865PE/G Neo2] Instability With Graphics / Games

With AGP set to 8x in the ATI Control Panel, games crash about 15 minutes after playing. This affects not just games but anything that uses graphics. For example, even my aquarium screensaver crashes after 15 minutes.
    Specs...
    865PE Neo2 LS
    Intel P4 2.6C @ 233MHz (3.0GHz)
    2x 256MB Corsair PC3700 @ 466MHz
    Antec True 430w
    WD 40GB 8MB Buffer
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB
    Audigy 2
    LiteOn 16x DVD
    LiteOn 52x32x52 CDRW
    Windows XP Pro
I have found a solution but not one that I'm happy with. I changed the AGP from 8x to 4x in the control panel and it has only crashed once since and that was after my aquarium screen saver had been on a couple hours. So perhaps if I played games longer it would eventaully crash like the screensaver.
With 8x AGP, using an older ATI driver my games would just crash to a black screen. After updating to the latest Catalyst, 3.10, it crashes to the vpu recovery most of the time. I'm using bios 1.9 and this never happened before updating. The only problem I had before 1.9 was a couple times the computer froze and I had a colored box about 1" x 1" at the top left of the screen. I've reinstalled Windows XP though and haven't had that problem since.
I've changed my memory voltage to 2.8 and vcore to 1.6. AGP is 1.6 volts and locked at 66/33. Temps are the same at 4x as 8x so I don't think temps are the problem. My Radeon 9700 Pro is running at 55C idle and 65C under load. My CPU is running at 40C idle and 45C-50C under load. Performance mode is set to slow and Spread Spectrum is disabled. HT is enabled. I've tried setting my fsb to 200MHz and memory to 400MHz but that doesn't help so overclocking isn't the problem. I'm not overclocking the video card now and never have.
I'd like to go back to an older bios to see if that fixes my problem but I don't know how. I made a bootable dos disk in Windows XP but it can't see my NTFS C: so I can't access the bios files at c:/test.
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

After going back to bios 1.8 things seem to be stable for longer than with 1.9. Screensavers still lock up after a couple hours and that never happened previously. I used to leave the computer on while I was at work and when I got back the screen saver would still be going. Now when I get home the screen is black and I have to reboot. Tonight I noticed that it wasn't just solid black. It blinked between black as in no video and a dark grey color. I was watching a movie so I didn't bother getting up to restart it. It continued blinking for a while and then my lcd put up an error saying "This video mode is not supported."
I've tried both a Radeon 9600 Pro and 9700 Pro and reinstalled Windows XP and all of the latest drivers. I've set my processor back to 200MHz and set the mem to 2.8 volts and the vcore to 1.6. Still the system is not stable and I'm out of ideas. I would agree that it could be the Radeon 9700 since ATI says there is an incompatiblity but since my Radeon 9600 doesn't work in this system either I don't think that is the problem. I don't know if the motherboard is at fault or if the problem lies in a faulty component. Any advise will be appreciated. All I can think to do is start replacing parts one part at a time until I have a stable system. I think I'll start by replacing the motherboard.

    Hi David,
This video card has a know problem with the Intel 865 chipset. The only ati cards that work have to have a serial # with -30 at the end or higher or they will not work. Because this card is discontinued our supplier cannot gaurantee a -30 card as a replacement. We can only exchange for a different item within the first 15 days so the only thing I can suggest is to see if you have a friend that may want to buy the card as there is probably nothing wrong with it and then buy another one. Any of the new 9600 or 9800 series don't have this problem. If you have any other questions let me know. Thanks alot.
    Ryan
I have now read in CPU Magazine a much More extensive article, and they are saying that they will release more incompatability numbers soon .......Sean REILLY875
It isn't serial numbers that end with a -30 but rather product numbers. I found the info online on how to determine if your card is compatible. The product number on my card does end with a -30  so it is compatible. Also this isn't just so with the 865pe chipset, it also applies to the 875p chipset.

  • Nvidia GeForce 9400M makes my MacBook Pro screen blinks

    I am using a Macbook Pro 2.4MHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067MHz DDR3.

Using the Nvidia GeForce 9400M, as my default video card, seems to make my screen blinks. That is random.
Apple's Hardware Test show no problems.
When I am using the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT the screen blinks stops.
I am sure that all started after updating to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.5.
Is this a software problem or there is a problem with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M chip?
Does any is experiencing the same problem?

I have the same issue with mine and sadly I missed the date to get Applecare on this machine (they usually call but this time around they didn't).  ***** that I didn't get this resolved before my warranty ran out .. I'm certainly not going to shell out for a replacement motherboard out of pocket.  I now use the 9600 graphics exclusively and can almost watch my battery drop by the minute.
On a side note I'm not very impressed with the quality control Apple has had with their portables in the last few years.  I bought this unit refurbished and it took two units to get one that worked properly, and even then this one never did as it's had this video blinking issue since day one.  The problem is I didn't really notice it until recently when I started using it running more often on battery and decided to use the mobile chipset to save battery time.  This is the third MBP I've had and their 3rd MBP that's had motherboard issues.
When it comes time to replace this one I'm seriously considering going with a macbook air or something else.  Can't justify spending the money on more MBP's with such terrible track records.
