Blue Screen- seems like random logon/off of user account

Hi,
I recently bought a new Macbook Pro (at the end of November) and have had this problem occur a couple of times. I'll be on it and it the screen will turn blue for a couple of seconds and then my desktop pops back up like I've just logged on. It's like I've logged off and on my user account and closed all my applications in the process. The first time it happened was several weeks ago and the blue screen appeared just after I opened the computer up after it had been closed. Every time I went down to the dock, I would get the blue screen. I restarted it and it seemed to be fixed. However, I experienced the same problem again tonight. It happened several times and at one point the only application running was Safari. Again, it was after the computer had been closed and again, I shut it down and it hasn't happened again. I'm going to call Apple tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone else knew what was happening. I have no experience dealing with computer problems so don't know what to look for to tell me what is happening. I did try searching for old threads on the topic but couldn't find anything.

So, to be clear, it will "logout" in two situations (and not prior to 10.6.5):
1. After leaving the computer unattended for a while, it will awake with the blue screen (not the "death screen", that's a different issue).
2. In a memory intensive, or several apps open, situation, a new command will trigger the logout. I've always run that style without issue.
Not a shutdown since there is no grey screen, and blue continue to normal desktop.
Not a restart since there is no grey screen or chime.
Not a kernel panic since no alert and grey screen, etc. Also note that there is no memory loss in your browsers so it is a calm logout that saves during the process, crashes remember several pages before the event, not the last one. Applications seem to save to the last second as well although it hasn't happened while writing a document so I don't know (I save at almost every breath anyway while writing).
No difference from increasing RAM to max.
No difference from several restarts (a process that used to clear memory blocks, don't really know if it's still relevant with the newer architecture). Anyway, it's a random event so hard to blame a memory issue (i.e., it's not repeatable).
No difference from standard troubleshooting processes, permissions, resets.
There are a lot of complaints about this issue but most people don't see it as a logout issue. Probably because they are single users. However, reading the restart and blue screen issues, tells me that they are discussing the same issue.

  • Always used 1 main account.  Started using individual user accounts. So how do I use software or applications with a lot of data like Quicken under my own user account?

I recently upgraded our family's mac to OS X.  I thought this was the perfect time to create and use "user accounts".  We had always used 1 main account.  So how do I use software or applications with a lot of data like Quicken under my own user account?  I wanted to be able to manage my own itunes library, iphone apps, messages.  But I still really need to use the Stuff I have in Quicken essentials.  I don't want to have to restart all my work done in Quicken already.

I haven't used Quicken in a while, but most applications store your files in your Documents folder. Is that where your Quicken data file is? What you do next depends on how many family members need to get at that data.
If multiple family members need to use the Quicken data file, try moving it to the Documents folder in the Shared account. That is an account that all accounts can see. It's at the same level as the other accounts. In other words, Shared is one level up from your Home account, or Hard Drive/Users/Shared.
If you're the only one allowed to see that Quicken data, move the Quicken data file from the old main account to your account, and don't leave a copy behind. You can use the Shared folder as a way station for the transfer since you won't be able to see both accounts' Documents folders at the same time (because you're not allowed to peek into other people's accounts). Or you can use another disk or server for the transfer, as long as you can get to it when logged into either account.

  • Macbook stuck on blue screen and cant turn it off even by holding the power button.

I came back to it a minute later and there was a blue screen with the loader on it. Its been in this state for hours now and i cant reboot by holding the power button so i have no idea how to actually do anything. At the moment im leaving it running in its current state hoping it will all be sorted once the battery has run out. • 27" 2010 iMac randomly crashing on admin user account

This one is a bit of a doozy...
We've had this iMac for a little over a year now and it has been working fine until very recently.  After installing the newest version of iMovie on it through the App Store, a very strange thing has been happening.  While an application is open (it started with just iMovie but it's constant now with any application) the computer will sort of crash to an extent.  The computer still runs and if something is say downloading, it will continue downloading, but I lose control of pretty much everything.  The bar at the top of the screen stays on the application no matter where I click (i.e. if it crashes while I'm in iMovie and I click on a finder window, the control panel at the top still reads iMovie).  After that I can't switch applications, the window of the one I'm in becomes unusable, and I have to force a restart.
I took this to Apple and they had me reinstall iMovie, and I just reinstalled all of Snow Leopard.  Both were unsuccessful.  Then I decided to create a second User Account, as a non-admin.  It works completely fine, not a glitch in the system.  Then I go back to the original/admin and the problem returns immediately.
    Can I get some help?

Not sure but it may possibly be a problem with Disk Permissions that sometimes go awry. You can View Disk Permissions using Disk Utility.  I think to Repair Disk Permissions you need to boot from the Install DVD (boot while holding down the ‘C’ key immediately).  Don’t reinstall the operating system but just get to the Install panel that shows you all the menus at the top and select Disk Utility from the Tools menu.  Click on First Aid and then View Disk Permissions.  You may need to run Repair Disk Permissions two or three times and there will still be messages that look like errors but those can likely be ignored; you’ll see what it repaired.
    Hope that helps.

  • Experiencing Black screen/ Computer is on but screen looks like it is off.

Well recently i have been noticing that the screen on my all in one desktop has been going dark. Not like the usually hibernating kind of dark screen but more so computer it off screen. There was even a point in which i was in a messaging program and the screen went really dark in the middle of my typing. No messages about the graphic failing or anything like that showed up so im abit scared that my computer may be dying.  I have been rummaging through this support forums and looking for people with similar issues and i came across something that said the Bios may need to be updated of something to that extent. SO, i have been trying to figure out how to do that but when i search my product no updates show up or anything so im beginning to think my product has become obselete. That being said how would i go about getting these update i so crucially need and how can i prevent my computer from dying. All help will be greatly appreciated and i do need a computer because my family is starting a business and this computer is a vital role in said business.

    Hi @Xhinzo,
Here is the product page for your computer. You can check the Software and Drivers section and use Option 2 if it's not able to detect your specific product, then select your operating system and see what's available.
When the screen goes dark, if you shine a flashlight on it can you see anything in the darkness? I'm wondering if it might be a hardware problem -- maybe the backlight is going out. Have you tried using an external monitor or connecting it to your TV, to see if the darkening problem occurs on a separate screen?

  • Firefox does not open on-screen - looks like it scrolls off to the side.

When I mouse over the Firefox icon, I can see that the window is open, but when I click on the icon, the window does not open onscreen and it fades in and out of the right side of my screen. Runninf Firefox 7.0.1, Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks

After clicking on the Firefox icon on the system task bar so that Firefox is selected, you can use WinKey and the left or right cursor key ( "WinKey+right-arrow") to place the window on the right half of the screen, then adjust the boundaries in the normal manner. If you have multiple monitors repeat (3 positions per monitor) until Firefox is in your current window.
On other Windows systems or if you have turn of one of the Windows 7 features, you can use "Alt+SpaceBar" to move/resize the window.
Also see the following article, you may have an extension that is causing problems, so refer to the article for more information.

  • Seems like somebody is using/hacking my account?

    Hi,
I've been using Skype and it has kept turning me online occasionally whilst I am invisible, I've tried to find solutions such as turning off promotions and disabling uPnP (as I saw looking at people with similar problems). I recently learnt that to other people even when I don't have skype running on my computer that people see me as online, or away. When I go onto skype (automatically as invisible) I go invisible to other people, but as soon as I quit skype I return back to away.
I am concerned about this and I have changed my password also, but it is still happening. Today whilst I was making a call, the ringing tone stayed during the call and even after I quit skype and I couldn't find anything in processes but it still kept ringing! (It eventually subsided).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • User Account problem - bounce's back to Login screen

Here's a new one for ya. My 24" iMac (OSX 10.6.2) will allow login on some but not all user accounts. I currently have 5 different user accounts on my iMac (we are a family of 5). No problems ever with logging in until SL upgrade. Now 2 of the 5 user accounts act strange. When you click an account everything appears fine, then you see a quick flash of blue screen and you return to the main user account/login screen. I can select any of the 3 other accounts and everything works as it should. I repaired permissions and that didn't help. Any ideas?

In System Preferences > Accounts, for each account you can assign "login items".
These will start automatically when the account logs in. If there is something that
is not compatible with Snow Leopard, it may be causing problems.
Easiest thing to do to verify this is to remove them.
You will need administrator access to the accounts panel to make the change.

  • Help! Random blue screen appears and won't go away also getting glitches.

    Hello,
So recently a blue screen has been randomly appearing taking up the whole screen, it won't go away until I hold down the button that turns laptop off. My screen has also been glitching and just now a glitch took up the whole screen then my background dissappeared to be left with this blue screen. Please help, I can't afford a new laptop!

That is odd and I'm not savvy enough to tell you what it means. But I'd venture a guess that you're in some kind of a debug mode. Again, a wild guess, but perhaps if you created a new admin account and log in with that, maybe the more (if that's the issue) will go away?
I'd start up in safe boot mode first and see if that helps. Maybe it's something running in your startup items?
Have you Googled the phrase? You might find something on a more technical Mac site that way? I just Googled <<event sysontoc>> and came up with a few leads you might want to check out.

  • My ipod shows a blue screen and then turns off and wont turn back on. What should I do?

I turned on my iPod touch today and it turned on as usual. I unlocked it and went to play a game. I got tired of the game after about 5 mins so I went to the home screen. I swiped to the previous screen and it showed a blue screen after about 3 seconds. I was sort of surprised as this hadn't ever happened before. It didn't turn itself off so I pressed and held the power and home buttons. It turned off after three seconds. I tried to turn it back on but it wouldn't turn back on. I remembered about what someone said about pressing and holding the power button and the home button. I did so and as expected it turned back on. I unlocked it and the same thing happened again. Blue screen! I turned it off and tried the same thing again. Yet this time when it got to the lock screen, I pressed and held the power button and slid to power off. I didn't want to try turning it on again so I asked this question. WHY DOES MY IPOD SHOW A BLUE SCREEN? (Over and over agin every time I turn it on?) Please help!
