Bluetooth required for wireless synching?

Is bluetooth required for wireless synching?

Sorry to drag this out, but my iPhone's not showing up unless I connect it.  My mom's phone is showing up wirelessly to our desktop (PC,) but mine is not showing up on my Macbook.

  • Have to "Set up Bluetooth Device" for wireless trackpad and keyboard almost every day

Almost every day when I turn on my MacBook Air in my home office, my Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad do not automatically reconnect. They used to connect just fine when I was in the viscinity, but now (for the past 6 months or so) I almost always have to:
Bluetooth > Set up Bluetooth Device
Turn off the keyboard (hold down the power button for several seconds)
Turn the keyboard back on (hold down power button for several seconds)
    Go through the setup wizard
    Repeat for the trackpad
    Things that don't work:
Pressing the button on each Bluetooth device
    Restarting each Bluetooth device
    Turning Bluetooth on and off
Setting the Bluetooth devices as "Favorites"
Selecting the device from the Bluetooth menu item and clicking "Connect"
    Rebooting my MacBook Air
    Resetting  the NVRAM / PRAM
Once the device is connected for the day, I do appear to be able to "Disconnect" and then "Connect" again from the Bluetooth menu item. The devices will also automatically reconnect by pressing a button on them. It just appears to lose the "lease" on them or whatever after a little less than a day.
I'm trying to think of other troubleshooting steps I could take and it just occurred to me that I could try swapping them with the peripherals I use at work (which are possibly newer models, but otherwise identical). Any other suggestions?

Huzzah! Less than 1 week after finally getting fed up and posting this question, I have discovered the root cause - my wife had been inadvertently stealing my keyboard and mouse connection whenever she turned on her laptop! She's using my hand-me-down MacBook Pro which I thought I had reset, but apparently it remembered its Bluetooth connections.
I had suspected something similar since I occasionally used the wireless keyboard with my iPad, but had already ruled that out.
I can't believe I figured this out after 6 months of mild frustration, but just days after posting this question

  • How many minimum VLANS required for wireless

Can management, ap-manager, dynamic interface(user defined) and LWAP are in the samesubnet.if not how many required.
Just correct me if am not wrong, 1.management, ap-manager and LWAP can be in a single subnet
user defined interfaces can be in a different subnet, so totally two subnets.
2.management, ap-manager can be in one subnet, LWAP in another subnet and dynamic interfaces in different subnet so tatally three subnets.

if you mean with lawpp the ap's then your statements are correct

  • Wireless synch at work + USB synch at home?

We've recently deployed BlackBerry server software on our network and all is working well with Outlook and the wireless devices. One user, however, would like to keep her BB synched wirelessly with her Outlook account at work while still being able to synch with her Outlook calendar at home.
When we plugged the BB into her personal laptop, the BB Desktop Software gave us an error message saying that the device was configured for wireless synch and wouldn't synch over USB with the laptop. Will setting the Desktop Software to synch with the device stop the device from synching wirelessly? Is there any way to get around that?
    Thanks!

Hrm, so, never you mind me... I thought the issue was bigger than it actually was. Regardless, a little paranoia's a good thing, right?

  • Is external antenna required for Late 2004 Bluetooth to function?

I have a G5 Late 2004 with the blue module installed, but i don't have the external antenna. Is this required for operation, or is my module bad? It shows up in profiler, but won't connect to anything. Also, if it is required, does anyone know a good place to purchase one.

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology, and you're going to shorten that extensively if you don't have an antenna. As you're seeing, it probably won't even work without the antenna.
The external antenna is about $30 from Mac-pro.com.
Are you missing the Airport antenna as well? Both antennas were in the same bag, as I recall.

This has been fixed.  Answer is that I needed to go to "Apple Software Update" and repair it.  (From my Control Panel).

  • U330 wireless and bluetooth drivers for windows xp. devices not working. drivers already installed

so i did a fresh instal of windows xp pro sp3.
device manager shows yellow question mark and ! for Network Controller and BCM2046 Bluetooth Device. i have tried using lan to windows update, update drivers, but device manager cannot find anything.
i have installed the 2 broadcom drivers for windows xp listed on lenovos website. i made sure that wireless switch is on, and fn+f5 wireless option is set to on as well.
LAN shows up. and so does the 1394 on the network connections, but no wireless.
(note: on my server 2008 os, the new windows troubleshooting instructed me to turn on a specific service, which then enabled my wireless to work.)
however i cant seem to find a way to get the wireless to work.
Could someone tell me all services exactly need to be enabled for the wireless to work? and why does the network controller still show up on device manager even after i have installed the drivers?
    please help, totally lost.

Your "yellow" device is Bluetooth, not WiFi.
Fn+F5 utility work depends on both of them, so you need all drivers to be installed before it will work.
Install bluetooth drivers for your model. Also, your WiFI also may be Broadcom (Gemtek) and you may be trying to install Intel WiFi.

  • Minimum requirements for home server

I am looking to get a cheap iMac, Mini or iBook to use as a home server to run iTunes 24/7. I will be attaching an external HD for storage space for my media and will stream wirelessly to Apple TV over 802.11g using an Airport Express. What would be the minimum requirement for such a setup? Would the minimum requirement be what the latest version of iTunes require?
    Message was edited by: Mac4lfe

Hi Mac4lfe: If you want to SYNCH between the Mac and the ATV, then any G3 will do, just expect the synching to be slow. If you want to STREAM from the Mac to ATV, then a G3 will do for music but not for video. If you want to stream video, a G4 will do, but you will get a lot of beachballs when you do anything on iTunes and sometimes the streaming will fail. I suggest you get the cheapest Intel Mac, you will have a much better experience when streaming. Lastly, remember you will need a screen for the Mini, there will always be warnings, error messages, updates, etc in iTunes that you need a screen, mouse and keyboard for. Very lastly, you can just get the ATV and buy music, TV shows, Movies and rent movies without a Mac. 160GP shall be enough. I have 40 movies, 20 full TV seasons and 6000 songs and am just over 400GB.

  • Compatibible bluetooth drivers for 6233?

I saw the sticky post with compatible drivers for 6233 and PC Suite. I wonder how accurate this information is today, it is contradicted by BlueSoleil and is quite old.
Is Nokia 6233 compatible with IVT Bluesoleil driver 2.4.10.0?
    Windows XP x86 SP3 (v.3180)
    Nokia 6233, IVT Bluesoleil USB Adapter (Gembird) v 2.3 std (driver v. 2.4.10.0, 23.6.2006), PC Suite v. 6.84

    Sorry that didn't work.
As you can see from the system requirements tab on the driver, that hardware ID is supported by the driver, so I have no idea why it didn't work.
    Supported Devices and Features

USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D="HP Integrated module with Bluetooth 2.1 wireless technology" USB\VID_03F0&PID_2A1D="HP Integrated module with Bluetooth 2.1 wireless technology"
The only other suggestion I can offer would be to try the Broadcom driver.  The HP module is made by Broadcom.

  • Is iCloud the ONLY Way To Wirelessly Synch?

I used to have a Nokia and wirelessly synched contacts with the push of a button (iSynch).  Loved it.  When I wanted to transfer a photo or video from my Nokia to my Macbook, or vice-versa, I selected it and sent it via bluetooth now.  Loved that too.  Didn't have to open any app or push more than one or two butons.
Now I "upgraded" to the iPhone 4s (primarily for 1080P video recording in low-light situations, if anything's better please lemme know).  But I see that I have to use iTunes to do almost everything, & iPhoto to import photos & videos.
iTunes synchs over the network, but doesn't looks like iPhoto can import untethered.  (Am I wrong?)  The process seems way less efficient than other smartphones.
Haven't tried iCloud yet, but I like the idea of manually selecting what gets sent.

When you back up with iCloud the pictures are contained in the back up file. I dont believe you can access them individually in the back up file. Loading the back up on to your iPhone would restore the photos though

  • I have a Lexmark printer which is a little old. So when i connect my iphone to it via the USB cable my printer doesn't recognise it. If i bought a bluetooth adaptor for the printer would i be able to print photos via bluetooth?

I have a Lexmark printer which is a little old. So when i connect my iphone to it via the USB cable my printer doesn't recognise it. If i bought a bluetooth adaptor for the printer would i be able to print photos via bluetooth?

The only way to print from an iPad is to have a printer that supports AirPrint. Here's a link to an Apple support page on AirPrint.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
AirPrint is way to print wirelessly via Wi-Fi  but it requires that the printer supports AirPrint. The iPad cannot use Bluetooth to print and it will not print when connected via USB.

  • Is it possible to get Bluetooth enhancement for Zen Vision M?

    hi all...
I have a Vision 30g, and i love it. It has never given me any trouble, and i have it for two years! And i know that's a good spell...some friends i know have gone through 3 ipods in the same time. Anyhow....
I got a nice set of bluetooth earphones for christmas, so i can use my phone and mp3 hadsfree while driving...the trouble is, my vision does not have bluetooth. Is it possible, or am i just wishing blindly, that some adjustment/download can be applied so my vision is bluetooth enabled?
I'm reaching here folks, any help appreciated...
Signed...A happy vision customer, that wishes to evolve!!

? It wasn't my intention to make you feel stupid. I had hoped the smiley would help convey that.
Bluetooth and 802. wireless do both use a radio in the 2.4Ghz band so your question wasn't completely off the deep end (unlike other things I've seen people request "in the next firmware update" that clearly would require hardware the player doesn't have). However, there are significant differences in the frequency bands and the way they use those bands. To each one the other looks like noise to ignore. If it were at all possible to reconfigure the wireless radio of the Zen, and I doubt it since highly integrated an miniturized products rarely include anything they don't absolutely need to accomplish their intended feature set, you'd only be able to use one of the other. To simultaneously support Bluetooth and 802. wireless you'd definitely need multiple radios.

I had to install Dell Wireless 1702 WiFi +
    Bluetooth Driver
The wireless adapter was defined by this driver, however, the Bluetooth still has an exclamation mark in front of it, and when the Dell WLAN and Bluetooth client installation finished, a pop up message said that Windows couldn't install the device
well, although there was a folder added in documents folder named 'Bluetooth Folder'
Yes, the Bluetooth was named with 'Generic Bluetooth adapter' before installing 'Driver above'. However, after installing the driver above, the Bluetooth adapter named with ' Dell wireless 1702 Bluetooth v3.0". But as you see it's
    still not working will.
The sceen shot shows the device manger before installing  Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver
These screen shots shows the device manger after installing  Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver
I've lit windows detect the operating program for this device on the internet, it said "Windows has detected that the operating  program of this device is up to date. As this screenshot shows.
What should I do because nothing lift to try? If you have a look at the ninth drivers in my previous message, you will see that no other drivers for Bluetooth lift.
Also, I have tried  to install Intel
    Centrino Wireless-N 1030 WiFi Driver
But I have been told that "the installation is blocked', This package of installation cannot be installed on your system' I don't know what this
means, is it because Dell Wireless 1702 WiFi +
    Bluetooth Driver is being installed
Could you please take some of your preciout time out to read carefully my points below to finish this problem?
    first:
Yes, if you had a look at my first post, you would have seen that I really have downloaded and installed the drivers suitable for bluetooth, which was only Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver, which made the bluetooth recognized by Windows 7(64Bit). However, the bluetooth in the device manager still has an exclamation mark as it is shown in the device manager.
I don't have any other drviers which can do more than the what Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver did because I have tried all the drivers listed under 'Network', exept the what are for Etherent.
Yes, when I have tried adding the bluetooth between two laptops(Mohammad and Nasreen).  the bluetooth was added for both laptops as you see in these screenshots below:
The Bluetooth devices of Nasreen's laptop whose bluetooth is having some problems in Device mangage.
The Bluetooth devices of Mohammad's laptop  whosse Bluetooh is defined well in device manager.
But there is still problem in the device managre as shown in the screenshot listed before.
Second: (Important) That when I want to send files or recieving between two bluetooth added in either laptop, I could send them. Also, when I open the Mohammad's bluetooth added in Nansreen's laptop( screenshot
below), I can show what is inside it.
However, when I open the the Nasreen's bluetooth addd in Mohammad's laptop, I noticed  no reponse at all because as you see that disconnected is written in fornt "Nasreen-Pc" as this screenshot:
Although sometimes Nasreen-Pc gets connected as screenshot below, but I am still not able to open the Bluetooth folder of Nasreen-pc from Mohammad-pc. When trying to do that, no response is there.
In other times, Nasreen-pc gets connected for a while, but it comes back disconnected.
Third:: I noticed that the name of Laptop whose Bluetooth was added listed in 'My computer' for the laptop whose Bluetooth is having some problems in the device manager.(First Screen shot below)  However,
the name of the laptop whose Bluetooth is having problems wasn't listed on other laptop's "my computer"(Second Screen shot below)
Finally: : when I clicked "right-click" on "Nasreen-PC" and then clicking on "detecting and troublshooting issues", I found that windows informed me that :
But which driver should I reinstall because I have already installed the Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver almost twice?
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.

Certain driver packages contain drivers from some of the essential services only and for additional services, separate drivers must be installed. Additionally, the service is installed only if a compatible device is installed (or paired).
Therefore, you are seeing the error.
If you are using the Bluetooth L2CAP Interface and Bluetooth Remote Control services and not able to install the services, you can try unpairing the device, restart the PC, pair the device and then check. If that too fails, you need to install a suitable
driver, sometimes even other OEM drivers solve the issue. You can Bing/Google about this. You can also contact Dell Support for more information.
    Balaji Kundalam
    Thanks a lot,
I really didn't understand what you mean with in your first part the service is installed only if a compatible device is installed (or paired).
    The Bluetooth is integrated with
the laptop, then  where other services will come from, all service are related to Bluetooth.
If there are some additional services not related to Bluetooth,
then how can I either let them functioning well or disable them in order to get rid of the yellow exclamation mark
on the name of my laptop in the Device and printers.
Also, I really have installed a
BCBT7(Broadcom Bluetooth) for HP which really defined the same Bluetooth issue,
Device manager after installing the entire setup of driver BCBT7(Broadcom Bluetooth) on HP laptop
but  when trying to install the same
BCBT7(Broadcom Bluetooth)  on Dell,  I faced the error below, although there is an icon for Bluetooth in
the system tray. Also, the Bluetooth is integrated as
you have seen in the device manager.
You didn't answer me: Third:: I noticed that the name of Laptop whose Bluetooth was added listed in 'My computer' for the laptop whose
Bluetooth is having some problems in the device manager.(First Screen shot below)  However, the name of the laptop whose Bluetooth is having problems wasn't listed on other laptop's "my computer"(Second Screen shot below)
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.
