Bluetooth (udev) weirdness

hello,
i am using openbox instead of full blown desktop environment and bluetooth usb dongle (belkin) to transfer data from/to my mobile phone. in order to receive files to pc i run /usr/lib/gnome-user-share/gnome-user-share. there is a problem though: after i send file from cellphone it reports failure (even though from OS point of view it seems fine) and indeed there's no new file in Downloads folder. console output looks as follows:
** (gnome-user-share:1504): WARNING **: Couldn't request the name: Unable to lookup session information for process '1504'
** Message: transfer started on /home/jose/Download/DevLogo.fil
** Message: transfer started for device 00:21:AA:6F:9E:DC

(gnome-user-share:1504): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_filename_to_uri: assertion `filename != NULL' failed
** (gnome-user-share:1504): WARNING **: Could not make a filename from '(null)'
in order to make it work i need to change
<policy user="root">
to
<policy user="jose">
in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/bluetooth.conf
afterwards the transfer is successful and looks like this:
** (gnome-user-share:1797): WARNING **: Couldn't request the name: Unable to lookup session information for process '1797'
** Message: transfer started on /home/jose/Download/DevLogo.fil
** Message: transfer started for device 00:21:AA:6F:9E:DC

** Message: accept_setting: 1
** Message: authorised transfer
** Message: file finish transfer: /home/jose/Download/DevLogo.fil
there's a problem though, i cannot leave the user set to my id because otherwise bluetoothd won't start (e. g. after reboot):
$ sudo bluetoothd -n
bluetoothd[1912]: Bluetooth daemon 4.53
bluetoothd[1912]: Unable to get on D-Bus
which leaves me with reediting bluetooth.conf file everytime i want to receive some files. has anyone found a better solution? thanks

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • Audio over bluetooth behaves weird after using Siri on iOS 7

    iOS 7 changed the behavior of audio play through bluetooth after Siri is invoked, I was hoping that 7.1 would fix this issue but that hasn't been the case.
    While playing audio through bluetooth (either through Music app, Podcasts, Pandora, etc) if Siri is invoked for ANY command the following happens:
    Siri interrupts music as expected, command(s) is given to Siri, Siri performs command (be it read text, dial a number, answer question about weather, anything), Siri exits, music comes back on but with different sound quality (almost like it was part of a phone call), 20seconds later music stops. The music playing app wil still be running, the track progress continues, but no audio comes out of car speakers. Only way to resume is to quit app, restart the app, and select play -- everything goes back to normal after that (well, untill Siri is used again).
    This behavior is making using the iPhone in my car for music and navigation almost more work than it's worth. Does anyone have a clue what is going on here? Is this an issue that Apple would have to resolve in a future update? Everything worked as spected in iOS 6.
    My wife and I have two 2011 VW Jetta wagons, I use a 5s and she has a 5c, and both phones have the latest released iO -- the issue presents the same on both cars.

    Sometimes what happens next is (this doesn't always happen) after I say "Give me directions", Siri will say "Ok, getting directions."  Then the lockscreen appears.  If you don't put in your code the directions never start.  Since the phone was in my pocket I didn't realize this.  There was no way for me to know that Siri was not navigating me since the phone was in my pocket.
    EDIT: The above behavior only happens when asking for walking directions.  It happens if you say "Give me walking directions", or if you say "give me directions" and your default method of directions is set to walking directions in maps settings.

  • How to add syslink devicefile for bluetooth gamepad

    I tried to follow this Archlinux wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PS … _Bluetooth
    in using my DualShock 3 controller as a gamepad for linux. It works via cable, but when I want to use it via Bluetooth, I would have to add a udev rule, as the wiki states:
    Wiki wrote:
    Create a new udev rule (usually 99 or 98-dualshock.rules into /etc/udev/rules.d/) with the following content
    KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{uniq}=="device_addr_you_got_on_pairing", SYMLINK+="input/dualshock3"
    I did setup this rule, but the devicefile is not created, and I dont know why.
    My udev rule looks like this:
    KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEM=="bluetooth", ATTRS{uniq}=="00:26:5C:17:DC:1F", SYMLINK+="input/dualshock3"
    I also asked on Stackoverflow and in different IRC channels: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2632 … th-gamepad
    Here are different results from udevadm info, test and monitor:

    You need the bluetooth software and access connections installed. Then you hit Fn+F5 and enable bluetooth. Once enabled the device will appear in Windows.

  • Bluetooth fix for Lion

    I found this over on the Macbook Air forum, it worked for me. Apparently if you use Migration Assistant you can end up with Bluetooth acting weird, as indeed I have been for the last few weeks.
    1) Go to: Macintosh HD->Library->Preferences
    2) Drag (the old migrated files) com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile to the desktop. Note that Lion will force a COPY when you do this, you must actually delete them and Lion will request the admin password.
    3) Stop Bluetooth and logout.
    4) Login and restart Bluetooth.
    5) Repair (as in Bluetooth "pair") everything.
    Thanks to RMalay for the correct answer.
    Lawrence

    I had to delete ALL files containing .bluetooth in their name. After 3-4 attempts it worked!! First time in 5 years I was so mad at Apple!!! First time in five years! I felt like using a ****** windows machine!
    Oh, please Steve come back, everything was all good when you were here:)

  • Bluetooth stopped working after kernel/udev upgrade

    I have a USB Bluetooth dongle, which has been running ok for a long time. Recently however, the KDE Bluetooth daemon reports 'no device found'. This the dmesg output when i plug in the dongle:

  • Really Weird One: Install Ubuntu on Partition, Bluetooth Hardware Disappear

    So ... I cloned my Mac OS X install onto an external drive, repartitioned my hard drive, cloned my install back onto my hard drive, and installed Ubuntu on the new, smaller partition.
    But now, on the Mac OS X install side, as far as Mac OS X is concerned, Bluetooth doesn't exist -- it's as if this system doesn't have Bluetooth hardware.
    I haven't even the faintest idea where to start. Any ideas?

    I have the same problem (I have an nforce3 board) where sometimes both eth0 and eth1 won't work, and the only way to fix it is to shutdown and start over (oh, and I don't think it's an Arch64 problem, since it happened to me in Arch32 as well).  It doesn't happen often enough to bother me though, so I haven't really looked into it.  As for problem where eth0 and eth1 switch, maybe this will help (so far it is working for me).
    From  /etc/udev/readme-udev-arch.txt:
    - The "proper" way to configure net interfaces to hold static names within udev rules.  Add lines like these to a custom rules file such as
      /etc/udev/rules.d/01-network.rules:
        SUBSYSTEM=="net", SYSFS{address}=="aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff", NAME="lan0"
        SUBSYSTEM=="net", SYSFS{address}=="ff:ee:dd:cc:bb:aa", NAME="wlan0"
    - To get the right mac address use this command:
        udevinfo -a -p /sys/class/net/<yourdevice>
    - Make sure you use lower-case hex values in your udev rules.
    - NAME= determines the name of your network card.  Use these names in your
      network configuration in rc.conf as well.

  • Finder acting weird lately for certain features (Bluetooth, Adobe illustrator etc.)

    Hi Everyone,
    I have recently come across a new problem with my macbook pro.
    While working with certain applications the finder is acting weird.
    Adobe Illustrator - On trying to place a certain document from the desktop onto the art board on my AI file I tried to go the traditional way of placinf it by opening file > clicking on place > (finder pops open). Now, as soon as it came up it took just about 2 seconds for it to disappear. And it has been happening continuosly since then.
    Bluetooh - to transfer some files from bluetooth on mac to my cellphone I chose the option: Send files to device...
    Same thing happened again. Finder popped open and vanished in no time. Only this time I was completely unable to open it again at all.
    The finder works perfectly everywhere else till now (atleast nothing wrong yet) but this is worrying me a bit as I have been reading about certain news of OS Mavericks being attacked by some flashback virus.
    I would be grateful If anyone could help me with this.
    Thankyou,
    John Tushar

    Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.BluetoothFileExchange.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
    Test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
    If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
    Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
    You might need to redo the View settings after an update.
    Since I don't use Adobe Illustrator, I don't know which .plist might be causing the problem. You could try doing the above with all Adobe Illustrator .plists.

  • IPhone 5, IOS 8.1.3 - Bluetooth Weirdness

    I've recently upgraded my iPhone 5S to IOS 8.1.3 and this appears to be when my bluetooth problems began!
    My Plantronics bluetooth headset is nearly five years old and has previously worked with this iPhone 5 and my old 4S.
    I can pair the headset and iphone just fine and even use it - so what's the problem?
    Well there are two really, firstly even after pairing the iphone bluetooth continues searching, the "Devices" wheel perpetually rotates and the iphone keeps looking for bluetooth devices to connect to and this appears to reduce battery standby time.
    Secondly and more annoying, if I turn my connected bluetooth device off or the bluetooth on the iphone off, I can't get them to re-connect. The iphone lists the device, but shows it as "Not connected". If I try to manually connect them, I get the "Connection unsuccessful" message - "Make sure "3XXPlantronics" is turned on and in range."
    The only thing I can do is "Forget this device" and re-pair the device and iphone, which is really starting to get to me!
    I've tried forgetting the device and re-booting the iphone, then re-pairing and also resetting all the network settings, but noting appears to make any difference.
    Any suggestions please?
    Kind regards,
    Mel

    Good day hells_mels,
    If you are having an issue with maintaining the Bluetooth connection to your headset and having to delete and re-pair it, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Core Duo + Kensington PilotMouse Bluetooth weirdness

    I just moved up from my old 800mHz iMac to a Core Duo mini last week. I wanted a multi-button bluetooth mouse, so I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard, and the Kensington PilotMouse Bluetooth.
    The combination work fine together. Tracking is usually smooth, however the fact that my machine is under the desk makes for tracking issues on occassion when my leg gets in the way.
    My problem is a bit more serious though. I pair the mouse up, it works. If the mac goes to sleep however, things get ugly. I can't wake the computer. The ethernet interface still responds to pings from my other machine, but neither keyboard nor mouse can wake it. Bluetooth Prefs are set to allow bluetooth devices to wake the machine, so this isn't the issue. Plugging in a USB keyboard doesn't appear to help at this point either, I have to power cycle the machine. (Note: this morning I turned on ssh, so I'll see if I can shell in next time this happens.) If I manually sleep the computer, things are fine, but if it sleeps on its own, I get the above behavior, and the fan is running full blast (while asleep???)
    Even more annoying...the system doesn't pick up the bluetooth mouse after a reboot, and on occassion wake from sleep. After a reboot, I wait. and wait. Eventually the watchdog timer for bluetooth devices picks up and starts searching for my mouse. I have to flip the mouse over, press the button that makes the mouse discoverable, and about a minute later I have my mouse back. Changes startup time from being under a minute to almost 5 minutes. I can't imagine that this is normal behavior for a bluetooth mouse.
    I'm not a computer novice. I service macs, Linux, FreeBSD, and even Windows if forced to, and have been doing so for over 10 years. I've looked through the mouse's manual, looked on Kensington's website, went through all of the Mac's bluetooth prefs and dialogues, and searched the site and disucssions, all came up blank. The one thing that really worries me though, is the Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse pane. The keyboard's name and battery strength show up, but the mouse stays blank, despite the mouse working and showing up in the bluetooth menu bar. I suspect this is simply an issue of no 3rd-party driver being available to communicate battery strength, but you would figure at least the device's name field would populate.
    Is this all normal? I'm starting to wonder if the system shouldn't go back. I've already had to hard reboot this mini more in the last week than I did the entire lifespan of my iMac, which would consistently have an uptime measured in months...

    After a day or so of struggling, I've found solutions to 2/3 of the issues:
    1. The front wire on the mainboard was loose. This has been suggested other places on the forums. If your fan is blowing constantly, this is what's wrong. Open up, seat or re-seat the cable plugged to the mainboard below the optical drive to the right.
    2. To properly wake your computer from sleep and keep the mouse, press down both mouse buttons and hold for ~5 seconds. The machine will wake and remember the mouse.
    I still don't have any idea of how to reboot and not lose mouse.

  • Weird bluetooth problem...

    For some reason I can't connect my bluetooth mouse on boot any more. It worked before, and now it doesn't. Actually, I never even did anything special to get it to connect at boot before: all I did was start the bluetooth service at startup and that was that. If I do a simple '/etc/rc.d/bluetooth restart' after I've logged in, then it automatically connects the mouse again. However, if I don't restart bluetooth services, and instead try 'hidd --connect bdaddr' I get the cryptic message "Can't get device information: no route to host".
    So basically, bluetooth is all screwed up when run at boot time, and perfectly fine otherwise, and I have no idea why or what to do about it. Any ideas?
    EDIT: I guess I should mention that I came up with a very crude workaround by adding '/etc/rc.d/bluetooth restart' to rc.local, however this seems kind of unnecessary to me, because it means I am starting my bluetooth services twice on every boot. Here's the appropriate line from rc.conf in case anything is out of order:
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng acpid cpufreq @crond @net-profiles @hal @fam @alsa @mpd @bluetooth @cups @polipo)
    Also, I'm wondering if a bug report is in order.

  • Bluetooth weirdness

    My iPhone and my car were happily paired until today. The phone said it was paired but nothing came through speakers. I unpaired restarted car and paired the car and phone up again. Still no go. I could get it to work if I pushed button on car to call the last number it had dialed for me. But if I called out via the iPhone, where the call used to go through the car speaker, I still heard nothing through the car speakers and the iPhone still said that it was successfully paired with the car. What do you think???

    Zap the PRAM - check.
    Reset the SMU (which I didn't even know I had until today) - check.
    Replace the Bluetooth pairing files with Terminal goodness - double check.
    Good news and bad news.
    Bad news first -- it still fails. Good news: In doing these gymnastics, I found out a way I can reliably cause the problem to happen. I have a hot corner for my screensaver to kick on in the lower-left corner. So if I put my cursor down there (the screensaver would show) and waited for about two minutes, the keyboard and mouse wouldn't respond.
    If I left it for even longer (not sure precisely how long), it would kernel panic with the message I posted earlier. I remembered that each time it panicked, I came back to the computer with the screensaver on (but frozen) and the fans on full-tilt. (And that cute little message that tells you to reset your computer in 12 languages.)
    In the meantime, I'm turning that hot corner off to see if it will fail by itself at some point.
    Thanks for your help, and any additional ideas will be gratefully received!

  • Totally weird bluetooth iTunes problem

    Okay this is the most bizarre thing ever I think.
    I bought a 30-pin bluetooth adapter for my iPhone dock so I can use my iPhone 5 with it.
    Plugged it in & synched no problem (device identifies as 'Arcadia')
    Tried to play iTunes from my phone & it flicked quickly through a few covers by itself then indicated that it was playing but no audio was coming out.
    I flicked to next song same thing. Tried to have it pause play but it wouldn't.
    The slider showed that it was 'stuck' at the start of the song so I slide it halfway into the song and... the song played backwards in 5 second jumps...
    Rebooted the phone & the adapter, re-synched etc etc but still the same. Plays backwards in jumps.
    Is this the weirdest or what?

    I've been having the EXACT SAME problem for months now... still no resolution. Been to a store, they couldnt help either.

  • Weird question - bluetooth / wireless dongles

    hi all
    has anyone every heard of a usb-based device that you plug into the usb port of your peripheral and transfers data to your computer wirelessly? via bluetooth or wifi perhaps, or maybe such a product would use a dongle pair. so you'd plug one dongle into your printer and one into your computer and make them talk, so your printer works just like usually except there's no cables.
    I guess this is relevant to the apple forums because if such a product did exist, it would have to be mac compatible for me!
    cheers, S

    I think it just hasn't caught on yet or there isn't that much market for it. Do some of these products seem to be what you are looking for?
    After a bit more research, it seems that the Bluetooth "HCRP (Hardcopy Cable Replacement Profile)" is what you are looking for. I think that, in theory of course, if your printer/scanner/etc supports bluetooth, you can use it as if it were connected via cable. I have heard of bluetooth printers, but not scanners. If there was peripheral support, with some driver magic, it should work the way you expect it. Perhaps you just need to give it a few more years to perculate.

  • HT4623 My bluetooth is abit weird help???

    my Bluetooth is showing up in the top right of my screen but its gray, ive tried rebooting it but it still the same, ive turned it on an d off but nothing. still gray. it just says searching for devices that's it can anyone help??? please thanks

    Hope this helps:
    If you have previously synced your device with iTunes, you may be able to reset the passcode by restoring the device:
    Connect the device to the computer with which you normally sync and open iTunes.
    Note: If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer" section below.
    If the device is still disabled, or if iTunes does not automatically sync your device, sync the device with iTunes.
    When the backup and sync is complete, restore your device.
    When iOS Setup Assistant asks to set up your device, choose "Restore from iTunes backup".
    Select your device in iTunes and choose the most recent backup of your device.
    Good luck!
    Thank you for your time reading,
    have a good day
