BOBJ Landscape Architecture

Gurus ,
Client has existing BOBJ (Dev+QA) same box ,Production Box  for LEGACY systems
and want to implement new SAP BW landscape DevQAProduction Boxes
What are the options available
1)can we have same BOX for legacy BOBJ and NEW SAP to be implemented for Universes,Crystal Reports,WebI,Xcelsius etc..
OR
2)do we need to have separate Box and separate out Legacy BOBJ with new SAP BOBJ implementation
can we partition database to house both legacy and sap repository on same Box ?
what is the best practise and approach
Thanks

Ingo ,thanks let me rephrase the question
Client has 2 tier architecture ,DEV and PROD for BOBJ and have relational universes
we  plan to install 3 tier SAP BW different BOX  landscape for (dev,qa,prod) and built OLAP universes
question is what is the best approach ,to use the clients existing 2 tier BOBJ landscape which has relational universes and then also use it to built OLAP universes on top of that ?
OR
built separate 3 tier new BOBJ landscape for SAP BW OLAP universes ??
What are the pros and cons of using 2 tier landscape vs 3 tier landscape
what are the pros and cons of using existing BOBJ relational universe landscape to house now SAP BW OLAP universes?
Thanks

  • SAP MDM-BOBJ Integration architecture

    Dear folks,
in one of the solution providing scenarios i need clarification on the architecture of BOBJ and MDM. i have been seeing in the documents that BOBJ server is falling in between source and MDM. However i feel it is more relevent to send a file from MDM to BOBJ and get the data enriched(Data quality) and send back to MDM. That means MDM is falling between source and BOBJ.
please provide some help on this.
    Regards
    Biswanath

To start with, the [MDM homepage on SDN |Enterprise Master Data Management]currently features a Webcast showing an MDM-BOBJ data quality services integration case, and a How-to Guide dealing with integrating the BOBJ ETL capabilities with MDM.

  • Tutorials on 3D landscape architecture?

I'm really new to Adobe Illustrator and I'm looking for tutorials on doing 3D architecture. Kind of like the stuff on:
    http://www.erguvanplatin.com/
I'd like to play around with making things like maps where the landscape and stuff has that 3D look to it. Does anyone know of some links that might have some tutorials to get a rookie started?

What coningham says is good advice, based on the sample you pointed to, which contains converging perspective renderings. (Things get smaller in the distance.) However...
    > I'd like to play around with making things like maps where the landscape and stuff has that 3D look to it.
One can read into this the possible intent to create some kind of modular or even interactive end result; for example, to facilitate planning a landscape from a given set of components, or for finding one's way around a map (like the maps commonly created for theme parks).
In those kinds of examples, the detail in the "distance" is just as important as the detail in the foreground. That's the realm of axonometric drawing (the simplest form being isometric), and that can be most efficiently done in 2D drawing. (Think of bird's-eye-view games like SimCity.)
That kind of thing can easily be drawn in Illustrator as a kind of "assembly kit" using Symbols which are dragged and dropped upon a properly-drawn map. (Like moving pieces on a chess board.) That kind of thing can also be delivered with reasonable ease as an interactive model in Flash, enabling, for example, a garden designer to place trees and shrubs where desired around a shopping mall.
    Key questions to ask yourself:
What's the purpose of the end product?
Is it to serve as an eye-candy rendering with realistic perspective? Once drawn, will it need to be rotated for a different view?
    (If so, use 3D.)
Is it an info-graphic or technical rendering in which the structure detail in the distance is just as important as in the front? (Phantom cutaway of a ship or hotel?)
Is it to be used to guide people around a map (a corn maze, for example)?
Does it need to be deliverable as something the end-user can manipulate for planning a layout, or for a game?
(If so, 2D construction might actually be advantageous.)

  • BOBJ Landscape

    Dear All,
We are using BOBJ products for data cleansing and data integration. We have one system each for data cleansing and data integration.
What we would like to know is do we require three system landscape in BOBJ also for data cleansing and integration activity. Kindly advice
    Best Regards

    Dear Michael,
Thanks for the info, it indeed provided some light
But our scenario is little different we are currently in process of uploading data into our BO historical data server from a third party system
At first we plan to do data cleansing and then upload it into our SAP development server then on quality and so on. We will even create different data souces in same BO data cleansing server if required. Is this approach correct
And do we require a seprate server for data integration or can we have it in our BO data cleansing server. As we understand data integration is part of data cleansing package
If that is the case then we can use our data integration server as second server for data cleansing. As our data volume will be huge
    Sorry for keeping it long
    Best Regards,

  • BOBJ landscape & integration to BI & ECC

    Hi,
Currently we have installed the BOBJ edge 3.1, Xcelsius2008 and Crystal Report 2008 trial version in 32 bit Win2k3OS. Now we want to integrate these with my existing BI 7.0 and ECC 6.0. And for this we have some queries:
    01) How can we Integrate it with BI 7.0 and ECC 6.0 system?
    02) Is any further tool is required for the integration?
    03) Can we install the above mentioned softwares in the BI 7.0 system itself?
    04) Kindly let us know the BOBJ possible Ladscape
    05) At the time of installing BOBJ edge 3.1 it is automatically taken SQL server as backend. Can we do this for Oracle?
Because at the installation time it did not asked for any particular database name. It automatically took sql server.
    Request you to please suggest.

  • Upgrade of Windows SP's have negative impact on BOBJ Landscape?

    Dear Colleagues,
I hope you can help in this case.
Currently on BOBJ XI R2 FP 3.6 which is on Win Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 - if windows SP's are updated to the latest will this have an impact on the Business objects environment in particular Excel?
Is there any white papers or restrictions or issues or adverse effects encountered by just upgrading Windows SP or applying Windows patches?
    Many thanks for your assistance.
    Kind Regards,
    Ailish
Edited by: Ailish Kennedy on Mar 16, 2010 6:22 PM

Upgrading the Windows OS on your BusinessObjects servers is not going to impact your ability to export to Excel. The Excel interface is more on your client side, especially on your web browser's setting.
With that being said, you should always set up a test environment where you can apply the patch and see if it breaks anything. You should always test things out thoroughly before rolling out to production.
    Hope this helps.

  • I need help in understanding the customization of Landscape in R/3.

I need help in understanding the customization of Landscape in R/3. Setup of SAP Landscape from an SAP SD point of view. Being as SAP SD consultant what would be my role in customizing the Landscape server. Help needed. Thx

    Hi,
In a standard SAP project implementation, the 3 standard transport procedures are:
Development System (DEV) --> QA System (QAS) --> Production System (PRD)
In the above structure, the Training Client (TRN) could be made from the copy of PRD (after when real-time master data has been available) or from QA system (where configuration has been tested in DEV client, and the master data is uploaded manually for training purposes)
Sandbox (standalone): This can be refreshed with Golden Client to reflect the latest configuration performed to facilitate the development/testing purposes.
-Development (DEV): Where all system configurations and development activities are carried out.
-Quality Assurance (QAS): Where functional testing is carried out. The System Integration Testing (carried out by the -Development Team) and the User Acceptance Testing (carried out by XXX appointed personnel) is carried out in this server.
-Training (TRN): End Users are trained on this server.
-Production (PRD): After the System is commissioned all data entry and administrative functions will be carried out in this server.
This is by far the standard landscape architecture that is adopted and practiced in most implementations.
    Hope the above helps.
    Thanks.

  • Time to upgrade to Full Frame

Team,  I currenlty own a 70D and a T3i with a bunch of EF-s lenses. My question is wether to upgrade to a couple of L lenses or upgrade to a full frame camera.  Ideally I love to have a Mark III but a 6D is more realistic.   My budget is about $3500 I do real estate photography with some portrait side gigs on the side, no weddings or big projects.  Will it make sense to keep my 70D with some prime lenses for portrait photograpy?  or go full frame is there much of a difference if i used a 70-200 2.8L lens on a 70D then a 6D?  your help and expertise is greatly appreciated.

Unless you want to get into really high end real estate photography, I'd suggest you stick with your 70D for now and start gradually changing your lens line-up, with a goal to build a system that will eventually allow you to add a full frame camera to use alongside the crop sensor camera. There are advantages and limitations with both sensor formats. I use both crop sensor and full frame cameras (a pair of 7D and a 5DII in my case, right now). I prefer the crop camera for sports/action and anything requiring longer telephoto lenses. And I like the full frame for landscape, architecture, portraiture and sometimes for macro work. One of the reasons I choose the full frame for portraiture is control over depth of field. Now, DoF is governed by lens focal length, working distance and lens aperture.... it doesn't actually change due to different sensor formats. However, in order to frame a subject the same way with a full frame camera, it's either necessary to use a longer focal length or move closer to the subject, or a little of both. Changing either distance or focal length will tend to render shallower depth of field. Conversely, full frame cameras can use smaller apertures before diffraction becomes an issue, so a FF also has some advantage for macro work or for landscape/architecture where great DoF is often wanted.  In generaly, there's a bit less lens selection for FF, though it's still quite extensive in the Canon system. This is because a FF camera can only use EF lenses, while your crop sensor 70D and my 7Ds can use both EF-S/crop-only and EF/full-frame-capable lenses. Also in general lenses for FF cameras will be larger, heavier and more expensive. It's most noticeable with telephotos, of course, but to some extent is true even with wide angle. IMO, on 70D a 70-200mm is a bit long for a lot of portraiture work. My most prefered lenses for portraits with a crop sensor camera are 50/1.4, 85/1.8 and 24-70/2.8. On full frame, my most frequently used portrait lenses are 85/1.8, 135/2, 70-200/4 and 70-200/2.8. Sure, there are times that wider and longer lenses can be useful for certain types of portraits. But these are what I use most often and feel are the most basic or "traditional" focal lengths for the purpose. Short telephotos generally render the most ideal perspective for portraits. Also, I mostly shoot candid portraits, not posed. Because that often means working with less than desirable backgrounds, I prefer larger aperture lenses that allow me the option to blur down distractions behind (and sometimes in front of) the subject. If shooting in studio or more posed at a planned location, with more control over the background and other elements, it would be different and large aperture lenses would be less necessary. Real estate photography work often calls for a wide angle and a lot of depth of field. With your crop camera, the EF-S 10-18mm you've got probably sees a lot of use. If you were shooting full frame, you'd probably want EF 16-35/2.8 or EF 16-35/4... or EF 11-24/2.8 (but that would use up most of your budget and not leave room to buy a camera to use it on).  Tilt shift lenses such as the TS-E 17/4 and TS-E 24/3.5 II are also top choices for architectural photography. Compare size, weight and prices. Also, if you use filters a lot, some require larger (16-35/2.8 II uses 82mm) and the TS-E 17/4 and EF 11-24/2.8 both have stongly convex front elements that won't allow standard screw-in filters to be used at all. There aren't many truly wide lenses for crop cameras that are also FF compatible. The EF 11-24/2.8 is one of very few. The EF 14/2.8 II is another. So, to use the crop camera for wide angle shots, you'll probably want to keep at least one or two EF-S/crop only lenses. The EF-S 10-22mm is an older lens than the EF-S 10-18mm, but is a little better built and with more edge-to-edge image sharpness... it's one of the best ultrawides made by anyone... but costs about 2X as much. If it were me, I'd prefer the Canon EF-S 17-55/2.8 IS USM over the Sigma 17-70... but once again this is a "crop only" lens. For dual format purpose, one of the 16-35mm or the EF 17-40/4 might replace it better and be able to serve on both camera formats. I use a little longer 24-70 and 28-135 as my "walk around" or mid-range zooms.    6D is a nice camera and, compared to 70D, would be desirable for very large prints or for low light/high ISO shooting situations. That's because full frame images need less magnification for enlargement and use bigger pixel sites that capture more fine detail, both of which allow for bigger prints. Not that you'd notice much difference with 13x19 or smaller prints. And certainly you wouldn't be able to tell any difference at Internet resolutions if a lot of your stuff ends up on websites. Because the FF camera's 20MP sensor is so much less crowded than the 20MP crop sensor, there is less heat and less cross talk, making for cleaning or less noise in very high ISO images. The difference would be most noticealbe at ISO 1600 and above.   The 70D has a more sophisticated and versatile AF system, except that the 6D's can still manage to focus in one or two stops lower light (center point only). 70D has 19-point AF that's similar to original 7D, active matrix focus screen, and zone focus in addition to the all points/auto and single point/manual focus patterns offered by all Canon DSLRs. The 6D only offers the last to focus patterns, doesn't have zone, and it has a fixed (but interchangeable with a few types) focus screen. 70D's active matrix focus screen makes possible the camera's  "grid on demand" feature that can be turned on or off via the menu, and which can be quite handy when shooting architecture inside or out. With 6D you can get similar grid in the viewfinder, but to do so would need need to swap out with a separately sold, accessory "D" type focus screen. In 70D all nineteen AF points are the more sensitive dual axis/cross type, with the center one enhanced for f2.8 and faster lenses. 6D's eleven AF points have only one dual axis/cross type... the center point... while all the others are single axis type. Either camera's AF system is probably more than adequate for what you say you shoot primarily. If you were shooting sports/action/wildlife/birds, the 70D's AF system would likely be more ideal, though... so I'd rate it as more versatile. The 6D's would be a better choice for low light work, though. 70D also has articulated LCD screen and built-in flash, while 6D has neither of those features. The 70D and 6D share batteries, chargers, memory and have mostly similar control layouts, always nice when using two different cameras interchangeably for various purposes. So, if it were me, I'd probably keep shooting with the 70D and work on lens upgrades first, then add the FF camera later. But that's just me. Your needs might be different and call for another approach. ***********

  • How can I improve the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of my website?

    Hello,
I have pushed my website live and am currently looking at my basic website reviews from "Woorank".  There are a lot of areas that I can inprove for SEO and they seem simple enough to take care of. However many suggestions they give require direct input into HTML...and, well, I chose Muse so I didn't have to deal with that jazz.  So, the following is a list of items that I am looking to improve on my website and I am looking for the "how to" in Adobe Muse. I have located and read through Adobe's "strategies for SEO" at http://www.adobekb.com/strategies_for_seo.html#addingtitles but i still have unanswered questions.
    robots.txt
I know Muse creates a "XML sitemap", which I do not quite understand...because I am only familiar with the sitemap links that are typically at the footer of a website and serve as a directory - but it would be nice to prevent crawlers from accessing specific directories and pages and specify where the sitemap file is located. What exactly Muse doing with my website's "sitemap"? Is this sitemap accessible to people viewing my website or just crawlers?
    Headings
My website currently does not use html headings (<H1> to <H6>) I would like to use keywords in the headings.  In the "page properties"dialog box, under metadata, it has a "HTML for <head>" box. How do I input words in this? use the HTML such as: <H1>Green Roofs</H1><H2>Landscape Architecture</H2>? separate by comma? Just type in words with a space inbetween?
    Alternative Text for images
I have found that only some of the images in my website have the option for adding alternative text. I right click on a photo and I get a "Edit Image Properties..." Option to add alt. text.  But some images do not have this option. Why?  I hover over an image and keep the arrow pointer (mouse) still and it will display a "tool tip" such as "Hero Frame", "image Frame", "thumbnail", "target", or "trigger". It seems that only on "image frame", "hero image", and "trigger" will right click and display the option for  "Edit Image Properties...".  Whats going on here?
    Blog
I have an active blog that I have as a menu item and when you go to that page on my site, I just have a link that goes to the externally hosted blog.  Is there a way to eliminate a click by actually having the user directed to the external blog site when clicking the "Blog" menu tab?  I understand that a particular level in Business Catalyst has a Blog engine option.
A lot of these are pretty nit-picky, but I would appreciate any insight given. Thanks,

    More info on sitemap.xml:
    http://www.adobekb.com/strategies_for_seo.html#understandingsitemap
Note that you can also exclude a page from your sitemap.xml to prevent crawlers from crawling it. Usually you don't want to do this, but if you have a good reason to the setting for that is in the page properties dialog.
You can assign heading tags using paragraph styles. More info here:
    http://www.adobekb.com/strategies_for_seo.html#usingparagraph
I'm able to set alt text on thumbnail images. Are you sure you have the thumbnail image selected?
You can create a placeholder page in your plan view, then mark the page menu options as 'include page without hyperlink'. Then your menu will contain an entry for this page, but no hyperlink. If you select the menu item, you can assign a hyperlink with the hyperlink control in the control strip.

  • When printing an AutoCAD-exported PDF file, the paper version has lines that screen does not show

    Hello,
We were contacted by our customer, a landscape architectural company that uses our product, M-Color, (http://m-color.com) to plot AutoCAD drawings with required preferences and effects.
However, they provided us with a sample PDF files, that contain examples of scanned drawings, that have some "ghost lines" at the drawings that the screen does not show.
We tracked the issue and it appears to be an issue with Adobe Reader pringing. We tried many versions from 8.0 version onwards to the latest versions available in public, all represent the same issue.
This may be an issue of the original drawing having some line that was not marked ending at some point.
The zip file within the link below has three PDF files, two from the company that brought this issue to our awareness and the one with name "scanstation" is printed by me, and then scanned with markings to explain the issue.
Any ideas what would be the best solution to solve this issue?

  • Design Studio 1.3 - Concern

    Hello Community,
With the release of Design studio 1.3 - the client expectation has gone up. There are few question that need to be addressed.
How feasible is Design Studio 1.3 over SAP Dashboard designer in adopting and in implementation ?
If the client is having only BW with them without any BI/BOBJ landscape in picture, can design studio 1.3 be a wiser choice over Dashboard designer? If Yes then why ?
In BW landscape what need to be done to get mobile access of design studio dashboard ?
Does Design studio support Data caching for offline report access and for faster report access - considering back-end as BW not running on SAP HANA ?
How complex is the coding with respect to custom development ?
    Awaiting detailed answers.
    Regards
    Kumar

    Kumar:
How feasible is Design Studio 1.3 over SAP Dashboard designer in adopting and in implementation ?
It depends on your requirements and needs.  SAP has said many times this year if your data source is BW, HANA or a universe that Design Studio supports, start with Design Studio.  Otherwise, per SAP, you have an automatic migration project.
Q: "If the client is having only BW with them without any BI/BOBJ landscape in picture, can design studio 1.3 be a wiser choice over Dashboard designer? If Yes then why ?"
A: How would they use Dashboard Designer in BW only?  Where would they deploy?  Not following.
See previous answer re: automatic migration project if you start with dashboarding on BW.
Q: In BW landscape what need to be done to get mobile access of design studio dashboard ?
A: BW only? Question came up at ASUG Annual Conference. In the SAP Enterprise portal there is a Design Studio iview and a portal mobility pack
Q: Does Design studio support Data caching for offline report access and for faster report access - considering back-end as BW not running on SAP HANA ?
A: It does not support offline today.
    Q: How complex is coding?
A: I am not a coding expert, but I am able to apply SDK components.  We heard customers at conference say they deploy without coding too.  If you know JavaScript, you will be comfortable with Design Studio is what I have heard.

  • AD connection and repository population

Ok, so I am a newbie to the SAP IDM space, but am well versed in LDAP and other IDM solutions. I need some help for the scenario we are working on Password change replication from AD to SAP systems.
    AD has the
users and will be the source for passwords
    SAP systems are existing
    We do not use SAP
HCM, thus the user source is AD.
So, we started by setting up the SAP IDM on windows, with an Oracle DB.
We have a dispatcher, and it says its running
I setup a repository for AD
I tried setting up a couple of jobs to populate the repository, but dont get anything.
I assume I am missing something - i havent configured something.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Jeremy
    Start with the tutorials first.
Somewhere in your IdM Installation folder or your setup folder there's a Tutorial folder.
There's one tutorial for LDAP-Tasks which could help you.
Also there exist some installation-related PDFs that help you during initial configuration.
On the other hand you should install the "SAP Provisioning Framework" which contains Tasks for commonly used SAP-related systems (ABAP, Portal, LDAP, ADS and so on).
If you search service.sap.com there exist also 2 important PDFs about how to use the SAP Provisioning Framework and the expected system landscape ("Identity Management for SAP System Landscapes: Architectural Overview" & "Identity Management for SAP System Landscapes: Configuration Guide").
    Hope I could help.
    Regards
    Michael
