Books on Struts and Hibernate

Could anyone tell me the best(means best) books for Struts and Hibernate for beginner. As i've a sound knowledge of jsp and servlets, i would like to add this technology (Struts) in my project..

Go to Amazon and type "Hibernate" into a search. You'll see all the Hibernate books available.
"HIbernate In Action" is out of date now. There's a new one due out on 1-Nov if you can wait that long.

    This is what's wrong:
    ava.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.struts.action.ActionServlet
    I'm guessing that you either didn't put the Struts JAR in your CLASSPATH, meaning WEB-INF/lib of your web deployment, or you didn't declare the servlet in your web.xml.

  • Is there any tutorial for integrating struts with hibernate using JDevelope

    Hi Everybody
    I am using Jdeveloper...and I want to know is there any tutorial available for usinfg struts and hibernate.
    If anybody knows abt them...plz tell me the links.
    Thanks and Regards
    K Sreenivas

    A tutorial about using hibernate in JDeveloper is here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/vohra_hibernate.html
    There are many papers and tutorials about Struts in JDeveloper - just go to the tutorials page and technical papers pages linked from the JDeveloper home-page.

  • Add Image to Jasper Report with Struts 2 and Hibernate

    Hi I want to add image to jasper report[pdf] in the environment of Struts 2 framework and hibernate. I am trying
    this for last couple of days, but i am unable to get the work done. if any body know the steps to add image to
    jasper reports, please help me or if u have any tutorials please let me know. I am using iReport-nb-3.5.0 to generate jasper files.
    Thanks in advance

    Finally i found a way to add image to jasper report. It is pretty simple, just give the exact image location to the image expression. In your web application, the image location may vary so, dynamically set the image location from your model class. Also, make sure that your lib folder contains itext-1.3.1.jar. If your lib folder contains itext-1.3.1.jar and iText-2.1.3.jar u will get like: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.lowagie.text.Image.plainWidth()F
    So remove the iText-2.1.3.jar and keep only itext-1.3.1.jar, try this will work

  • JSF vs  Struts  And  Best O/R mapping  tech.

    I want to start working again after 3+ years gap from 2003 to 2007.Earlier for 4 years I have worked on web/enterprise applications and technical platform was JSP1.2,SERVLET 2.x,Oracle's xsql servlet,JDBC ,Struts1.0/1.1,statleless Session Bean ,Web Service generated by BEA WEBLogic server 8.1,jdk1.3.
    I've been looking through too many documents and forums, there are so many choices now .Could you please suggest which of the following should I learn to update my skills :
    1.JSF OR Struts 1.2,1.3 OR Struts2 ( There are no books for Struts 2)
    2.Hibernate OR EJB3 OR Torque OR TopLink
    3. jdk 1.4 OR java 5
    Can you help me to findout documentation and tutorials to learn these .
    Thanks

    You're wanting to get back into writing web applications?
    Web services?
    1 - If you worked with struts before, I'd probably continue with that line. Or at least start there.
    2 - I'd say Hibernate, but then I don't know that much about the others ;-)
    3 - Java1.5.
    I would also recommend you catch up with the changes between JSP1.2 and JSP2.0, particularly regarding JSTL and EL.
    For learning JSTL, you can't past go the JSTL spec. It is quite readable, and an excellent reference. http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/jstl/reference/api/index.html

    At least for JSPs, there are free online tutorials from Sun. There are likely to be similar resources for Spring and Hibernate.I Know Java. I am a Sun Certified Java Programmer. I also know know J2EE. I am trying to learn the new technologies. Therefore i mentioned that i am a newbie, it was pertianing to JSF, Springs and Hibernate. Not to Java.In that case:
    Core Java Server Faces (2nd edition)
    Java Persistence with Hibernate
    Pro Spring 2.5
    Expert Spring MVC and Web Flow
    Together with the product documentation those should make a decent bit of reading.

  • What are Struts and how it is used in SAP

    Hi
    can anyone give a idea that what are struts and how it is used in SAP
    Regards
    JM

    Hi John,
    In this case google.com really us your friend - Struts is not an SAP technology, rather it is an MVC development paradigm (love using that word for Java.  There are lots of useful websites with generic information around struts as well as a number of good books available from Amazon for instance.
    As far as Struts and SAP goes - SAP use Struts for their Internet Sales CRM Webshop application.  Of course, like anything else from SAP it has been modified slightly but is essentially the same.

    Hi,
    i think you have got this sample application from Mastering Jakarta Struts book.
    Try the following changes, you can escape from this exception:
    1) In the employeelist.jsp, change the name attribute to "USER instead of "employees" as follows
    <logic:iterate id="employee" name="USER">
    and also <logic:present name="USER"> </logic:present> before and after the iterate tags.
    2)In the EmployeeList Action.java,add the following in the excute method...
              EmployeesActionMapping employeesMapping =
                   (EmployeesActionMapping)mapping;
                   if ( employeesMapping.isLoginRequired() ) {
                        HttpSession session = request.getSession();
                             if ( session.getAttribute("USER") == null ) {
                                  System.out.println("session.getAttribute is NULL");
                                  target = "login";
                             ActionErrors errors = new ActionErrors();
                             errors.add(ActionErrors.GLOBAL_ERROR,
                             new ActionError("errors.login.required"));
                             if (!errors.empty()) {
                             saveErrors(request, errors);
                        }else{
                   session.setAttribute("USER",getEmployees());

  • What do I download for Struts/JSP/Hibernate?

    My organization has purchased a five-user license for "Workshop" and I would like to use it for Struts/Hibernate/JSP development. However, it's not clear what I need to download and install.
    I tried downloading and installing both of these files:
    workshopstudio102_win32.exe
    workshop102_win32.exe
    In both cases, after the dust settled there was no application called "Workshop" on my Windows XP system.
    There is now something called "WorkSPACE Studio 1.1." ("Space," not "shop.")
    What is "WorkSpace Studio?" I never heard of it before I ran this installer.
    What is the difference between "Workshop Studio" and "Workshop for WebLogic?"
    What do I download to get Eclipse-based Struts/JSP/Hibernate development tools?
    How do I install it?
    Thanks,
    Ethan
    Edited by ethanmichaels at 03/26/2008 4:48 PM

    Hi Ethan,
    The license you have purchased is for WorkshopStudio 10.2
    This allows you to develop Struts/Hibernate/JSP applications against both BEA and non BEA servers.
    Workshop for WebLogic allows users to develop applications against BEA WebLogic Servers and does not require a special license
    More information on Workspace Studio is available at http://edocs.bea.com/wlw/docs102/workspaceFAQ.html
    Hope this helps

  • JDeveloper 10.1.3  preview and Hibernate 3.0

    I'm testing JDeveloper Preview 10.1.3.0.2.223 and find some problems when using hibernate 3.0
    When I'm using with OC4J, some packages conflicts and Hibernate don't work.
    I hava to rename <jdevhome1013>\webservices\lib to <jdevhome1013>\webservices\libold
    and replace the file <jdevhome1013>\j2ee\home\lib\asm.jar from file asm.jar that folloies Hibernate 3.0
    So, I'd like to know if it's a know bug, a unknow bug or JDeveloper/OC4J won't support applications with Hibernate?
    Thanks.

    Jim, you are my Idol!!!!
    I'm evaluating JDeveloper (for the first time, not migrating from a previous version), so I'm realy brand new with this environment.
    Now that I see that you (maybe) go in the same direction I go, please, give me your opinion about one point.
    I can see JDeveloper gives the developer a lot of code-generating advantages if you accept using ADF and the rest of the whole Oracle proposed environment. Specifically, the amazing speed you can get on binding the three tiers: database (with connections and drag-and-drops for tables), Business Objects and logic (with middle tier wizards) and presentation tier (with that great drag-and-drop jsp creation tool). I think all this tools can really make a speed-difference…
    But… I don’t like “proprietary solutions”, I like open-source-standards, so… I prefer Hibernate (3.0.5), any structural-framework, like Struts or whichever, and for example JSF for the presentation tier (still evaluating this point)
    I’ve seen that tutorial about using Hibernate + JSF with JDeveloper (http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/vohra_hibernate.html) but it didn’t satisfied me too much: It’s written for Hibernate 2.1.8 and migrating to Hibernate 3.0 is not possible without a headache…
    So finally, I decided to import a “neutrally” built Struts + Hibernate 3.0 project and try to “speed it up” using JDeveloper. And then it was when I hit my head against this problem you’ve just solved! Jiiiimy, Jiiiiimy!!!! :-))))))
    So, finally, my questions:
    1)     Would you say that if I’m developing this within this kind of tools, then JDeveloper still gives me much of the speed It gives in the first case? Can I drag-and-speedy-drop from database to model tier, or from model to control or to presentation tiers without introducing any Oracle libraries in my project? How? Do you have any example?
    2)     In your opinion, which is the best environment for speeding up this whole development process: JDeveloper, Eclipse + Exadel or any other plug-in environment? Any other you may prefer?
    Hey, again, thanks a lot!! Oracle should take note of the bug you detected (and maybe pay you some bucks for it :-))

  • Which is the best book for struts?

    plz suggest me best book of struts so that i can become a master in struts

    There are a lot of good book about Struts such as Struts in Action. But you
    should use Spring. Spring framework is the good MVC for web application
    and there are a lot of people using Spring instead of Struts.

  • I bought a book on itunes, and can't open it. tried to send it to my iphone so i could read it there and it won't let me carry it over. I have updated Ibook on my iphone. What do I do? I do not want to buy the book again.

    You won't be able to open it on your computer, ibooks can currently only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. How were you trying to get it to your phone, syncing it by selecting it on the iPhone's Books tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, or by dragging-and-dropping it from the Books part of your iTunes library over and onto the iPhone 'device' ?  Another option is to try re-downloading it directly in the iBooks app on your iPhone via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in it (re-downloading).

  • Sleep and Hibernate does not work after BIOS update X1 Carbon 20A8

    As subject title, did a recent Lenovo "System Update" on BIOS and other drivers, and since then sleep and hibernate no longer works, when i close the lid, it turns on by itself after 2 seconds.
    When i select Sleep or Hibernate in Windows 8.1 with lid open, it just behaves like a Restart command.
    Need this fixed! Any ideas?

    Try downgrading to your older BIOS and see if it works again.
