BootCamp cannot create new partition on drive free space.
Hi Folks,
I am hoping for some advice here. I am running OS X (10.5.6) and wish to use Boot Camp to created a partition to install Windows XP SP2 for some gaming. My machine is a late 2007 MBP 2.4GHz C2D, 4GB RAM, 340GB WD transplanted hard drive.
I have about 180GB of free space for a new partition to be created for the XP install.
When I fire up the Boot Camp Assistant tool, I am immediately informed of the following:
"The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition."
"Back up the disk and use the Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using the Boot Camp Assistant again."
+ I have never had more than one partition on this drive.
+ I installed the drive new with no partition and used a tool named 'Carbon Copy Cloner' to transfer data from the original drive onto this drive, the machine booted right away and I have been using it without issue ever since.
+ I have run Disk Utility to 'Verify Disk', 'Verify Disk Permissions' and 'Repair Disk Permissions' all ran with no problems and completed successfully.
My question is, how can I make a usable backup copy of the drive to restore back to the drive after performing the re-format?
Can I use the Carbon Copy Cloner software for this? I want to make sure that the resulting internal drive is bootable, etc.
I have been running Time Machine as well and have a disk full of backups from that app, but I have no idea how to use it to restore the drive to it's current state after re-partition and format.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.
John
So today I used the free "trial" version of SuperDuper to create a bootable clone of my primary internal drive.
It was about 100GB and took a long time to copy onto USB 2.0 external SATA drive, but it worked.
SuperDuper provided the option to make the copy the boot device as well. After reboot, I used OS X Disk Utility to erase primary drive.
I then performed the operation in reverse, copying the entire contents back to the original location.
After a reboot, I ran the Boot Camp Utility and received the same aggravating message which I received before.
How can I be sure that I am actually re-formatting the target drive in order to consolidate free space? Is this my issue? When I performed the erase operation, I skipped the "zero out free space" step. Am I using the correct utility to prepare the target drive?
Once again, any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
John

Bootcamp Cannot create a partition
As a newbie to mac, i thought it would be pretty easy to use the assistant to install W7.
Following the bootcamp procedure, Bootcamp assistant fails to create a partition.
"Your disk could not be partitioned. An error occurred while partitioning disk." No other information leads me to understand the problem
So i tried to verify disk problems and repair but no luck.
I looked online and some suggestions include restarting the computer in single mode and running /sbin/fsck -fy but despite that same problem.
So i thought i would try to just create a normal partition using disk utility (nothing to do with windows 7 etc). The error is as follows:
"This core storage operation is not allowed on a sparse logical volume"
Can anyone help?

Repairing bootcamp after creating new partition
Like others who have posted here, I had two partitions, MacOS and Bootcamp that worked just fine. I then added a new partition because I need a "D" drive in Windows configuration to be able to install a particular set of programs that rely on such a configuration (long story and perhaps there was a better way). Once I added the new NTFS partition and rebooted, I no longer see the Windows drive as a a boot option. I don't know if the command line "sugo" utility and syntax that I've seen in postings here applies to all such situations but if anyone can guide me through it I would be very grateful. Thanks
No worries. Here you go. I'm glad you can interpret this stuff.

How to create a partition using the free space of an existing[SOLVED]
Hi Guys,
Since I could not install fifa 09 using wine on linux, I need to create a partition where I can install windows first in order to install fifa 09 on it. How can I create a partition using the rest free space of my , for example, /home partition? How can I do it in a secure way (meaning without doing something to my existing archlinux installation files and system files) ?
Thanks.

Someone could unplug your computer, a power surge might happen, etc. A cousin of mine actually did something similar while I was gaming, the extension cord has a red button which he "accidentally" pressed. I would've cracked his skull had he done it while resizing a partition.
Anyway, the partitioning scheme should be the first thing you do when you decide go this route (dual booting). I remember about a year ago I forced myself to use Linux by formatting the entire drive to ext4, except for the 2 GB + 20 GB ntfs partitions. It was what kick-started me on this path. Here's my partitioning scheme for both computers, maybe you'll get an idea and do something similar:
Older computer:
2 GB ntfs - MicroXP
8 GB ext4 - Arch Linux + Home dir (to keep the dot files organized in one place)
20 GB ntfs - games partition
Rest is for media, formatted as ext3 with inode 128 (so it can be loaded as Read-Only in Windows too via Ext2fsd so they won't be affected in case of a virus infection)
New computer:
20 GB Windows 7
10 GB Arch Linux + home dir
50 GB games partition
Rest of the space is ext4 mounted to /media
Note that they're all primary partitions for remembering easier (sda1, sda2, sda3, sda4) instead of a combination of primary and extended which would probably look like sda1, sda5, sda6, sda7, etc.

How to merge my disk partition with the free space
Hello! I have a macbook pro mid 2010 with Mavericks, I had 2 partitions and deleted one with the disk utility.
Now I want to expand the one that I have left but I can't, I cannot drag the corner of the partition because it is below of the free space.
I will post a picture so you can understand better. Also I tried using iPartitions but it won't let me make any changes. Thank you
I don't know if anyone can see the picture so i'm leaving a url: https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/505x387q90/745/WaiZID.pngYou need to create a partition in the free space, clone the content of Macintosh HD 2 to it, restart from the newly-created partition, and delete the one currently listed as Macintosh HD 2.

Hi Everyone,
Can I force the bootcamp wizard to skip looking for the bootcamp drivers? I have already downloaded the latest drivers and loaded them on a FAT usb drive. All I want is for bootcamp to create the partition and allow me to install windows 8 pro.
The bootcamp drivers have been downloaded from apple's website. Filename: BootCamp5.0.5033
I have a iMac 27" late 2013 model.
NOTE: I have downloaded the drivers manually from apples support site as the bootcamp wizard fails third of the way through the download.
Appreciate any assistance.
Regards,
asdutoitThere is a missing point in this thread, and it is that the Boot Camp drivers for the Late 2013 iMac can only be downloaded from Boot Camp Assistant. The Boot Camp drivers available in the Apple site are not compatible with that iMac.
Delete the Boot Camp drivers from the USB drive, open Boot Camp Assistant and try to download the Boot Camp drivers again. If you get a message telling you that they could not be downloaded, I would try reinstalling OS X through OS X Recovery, by holding down Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up -
Hello.
I have a problem. I want to install WinXP via BootCamp and can't create new partition for it.
BootCamp Assistant crashes during partitioning (kernel panic), and when I use Leopard installation disk and try to create new partition in Disk Utility on DVD, it returns an error "No space left on device".
I repaired my hard disk many times (all errors were repaired) and still no improvement.
I don't want to format my disk to zero, because I don't use Time Machine and it would be really difficult to restore all the data.
Thank you in advance.Use Disk Utility Restore to copy your internal drive to an external USB/FW drive. Then reformat.

Problem in Creating New partition in Pavilion dm4 1217TX
I have a hp Pavilion dm4 1217TX model laptop. I want to partition the hard disk (640GB) to separate the OS to the data. I think this is a very basic safety feature that will save my data in case of Windows failure (which is a very common problem). I have already split the C Drive and the new condition of my hard drive is
System 199 MB Primary
C 70 GB Primary
Unallocated 494 GB Logical
Recovery 32 GB Primary
HP Tools 103 MB Primary
Now I can't create partition in the Unallocated space because of 4 Primary Partition it already has. Now what can I do ? I can't understand that why it comes with four Primary Partition and without any Extended partition.Hi, there, I have the same problem with you, because of the OEM of the laptop, they have partitioned our hard drive in advanced, however this partition is not logical. As we know, when we install Windows7, the system partition and system reserved partition are set as primary partition without doubt, but how could they make the HP tools and other partition as primary partitino too. I'm very unhappy with this. I don't know WHAT are they thinking about. Every one who has a bit comptuer knowloage knows the rules of createing new partitions in Windows. In my situation, I could only copy the data on recovery to C drive, then delete it. and recreate logical partition, then copy it back. Hope this could also help you.

Cannot create new folders in Outlook
I just bought a new PC computer. I installed MSFT Office Professional Plus 2010. I opened Outlook and added in (i) the pst folder I had set up from my previous Vista
computer (also with Outlook 2010), (ii) my hotmail account, (iii) my at&t/yahoo account and (iv) my gmail account. I cannot create new folders in any of them.
When I right click anywhere in the navigation pane and select "New Folder..." I get the following error message:
"Outlook cannot read the registry information.
-Close and restart Outlook.
-Reinstall Outlook
-Reinstall Microsoft Exchange or other e-mail system."
I tried all three, including removing and reinstalling Office and removing all of the email accounts/pst files and re-adding and still have the problem.
If I try to right-click properties on any of the accounts, I get the same error message, with the following additional language first:
"Cannot display 'General' page. This page will remain visible, but is not available."
Not sure what is left to try.
Appreciate any ideas.Hi

I suspect you're referring to the 3 free iCloud account limit on an iOS device. If so, there's no way around this. Once that limit is reached, you'll have to create the iCloud account on another iOS device or computer, then setup that account on your phone.

Repairing Boot Camp after creating new partition
I'm running OS X 10.8 and Windows 7 x64 Pro.
After properly setting up Boot Camp to dual-boot Windows on my Mac mini, I decided to test whether or not it was true that creating another partition (a data partition for OS X) would interfere with Boot Camp. Wikipedia claims it does interfere but without citing a source, whilst the Boot Camp documentation itself only specifies that the disk must be a single partition _prior_ to setup - there's no mention of whether the disk must be _kept_ that way afterwards.
I opened Disk Utility, reduced the size of my OS X parition from 420GB to 80GB, and created a new partition in the unallocated space. Here's how it looks now:
When I attempted to proceed with the process, I did receive a warning that doing this (and I quote), "may" cause problems with Boot Camp. Seeing as it was inconclusive, I thought I'd give it a shot - nothing ventured…
Of course, it borked Boot Camp, otherwise I wouldn't be posting here. Whilst OS X boots just fine, the Boot Camp partition now no longer shows up in the Startup Manager, though it does in the Startup Disk prefPane. If I do attempt to boot into Boot Camp, I receive the following message on a black screen:
No bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key
The advice given to someone who had this same problem was, "fix your damaged Boot Camp volume." But I'm at a loss as to how to do that.
So, anyone know how to proceed now so that I can keep my partitions as is, whilst fully restoring normal Boot Camp functionality?Hi,
@Christopher Murphy:
Okay, you seem confident. Let's give this a shot. I use the command-line myself for the odd thing, so I'll try not to bail.

Creating new slice existing drive
Hi theres
I have 40 GB HDD in which I created 10 GB partition for solaris. Now I want add another 10 GB partition from existing 30 GB. When I created new partition I am confused about how to recognize it as slice & then creating new filesystem on it by newfs.
Please if anybody can help me step by step.
Thanks.Hi,
Its looking that you are trying to create/work on Matching/Mismatch of Intercompany through reports.
These match and mismatch reports can be created in "Reporting" section in HFM itself.
Here in two different sections, you can mention the ICP accounts/combination and also mention their matching Account/combinations.
The two sections are matched against each other.
Try it

Cannot create new folder?
I have just moved to a new hosting and have connected to it
and I can edit files. When I try to add a folder to the remove I'll
get
"An FTP error occured - cannot create new folder .
Access denied. The file may not exist or there could be a
permission problem".
Any idea?Hi,
Did you make any changes before the issue appears?
Before going further, you may try the
system restore to go back to a previous status and check the result.
