Botched Remote Support Component install

Hello,
I am a new admin trying to install Remote Support Component SP3 for our Business Objects system (everything Windows based).  I'm following the Installation Guide - Remote Support Component SP3 Document version 1.3.8 u2013 23 February 2012
Does the Remote Support Component belong on the 'Managing host'?
I installed it on our 'Managed host', aka a separate server where our Business Objects XI 3.1 sp5 is installed.

Hi Brian,
The below diagram shows you in which order to install which components (on which systems)
[INSTALLATION ORDER DIAGRAM|https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/252140217/flow.png]
The "remote support component" also known as the "managing agent" is installed by the SMDAgent installation (step 2 in the attached diagram).  This is the install that is ran by running sapinst
The managed agents (that are installed to your BOE nodes and your application server) are installed by the same sapinst installer, however they remain only as managed agents because you do not activate the agent (as show in step 3 of the attached diagram)
So to answer your original question:
Does the Remote Support Component belong on the 'Managing host'?  Yes
If you have any further questions, problems, etc please feel free to post more to this forum.
Sincerely,

    1) I see content for Businessobjects XI 3.1, what about 4?
Support for BI Platform 4.x is targeted for Q2 2012
    2) I do not see any content to monitor Data Services and databases connected to data services?
Support for database monitoring (database specific metrics) is planned for a future version.  However, you can monitor the database process itself along with operating system metrics such as cpu, memory, disk i/o, network stats etc.  With Solution Manager however, you can monitor database internals via dbacockpit tool.
    4) Is there any content to monitor disk space, database instances, database sizes/growth?
    See #2
    3) Is it possible to create dashboards, add content of your own for monitoring anything not provided as shown above?
Yes, however you need to purchase a license for CA Wily Introscope.  The remote support component is totally free therefore its a view only version.  However, with a CA license you may customize or add content as you see fit.
The enhancement you request is already planned however if you could go to the [Idea Place|https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/community/ideas/businessanalytics/sbo_rsc] and vote for this enhancement it will certainly help increase the priority.
If you have more queries or concerns please feel free to post more feedback.

  • BI platfrom remote support

    Hi All,
Can anyone give me details of the remote support component BO platform. I got to know that for BI 4.x this remote support is setup using solution manager and wily introscope stand alone configuration.
How is setup in existing bo4.1 system and what are the major advantages and effort required. Also what is the difference between Monitoring service which is available in BI 4.x or this BI monitoring has to merge with these remote support components.
Please share your ideas and how to install / setup these remote support components.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Emanuel & Asma,
    Thanks for the replies.
After going through the links, I see that, this remote support component is suppreted in BO XI3.1, there are options given for BO 4.0 also, like
    Solution
    EarlyWatch Alert
    Documentation
    SAP Solution Manager
    Yes
    Note 1653689 - SolMan 7.1: Managed Sys Setup - BI Platform 4.0
    Wily Introscope stand-alone configuration
    No
Note 1540591 - Wily Introscope Setup for SAP BOE 4.0
How to proceed for this to setup. Do we need both SAP SolMan along wtih Introscope required, thou there is no Earlywatch alert option not available for Intrsoscope. Installation steps or document is available.
    Please help.

  • Know more detail about the Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One ?

SAP Business One 9.1 is about to release this year and we can see in the feature enhancements that a significant update is planned in the Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One, more commonly known as RSP. Let’s have a quick look what update is planned for RSP in version 9.1:
Enhancements planned in Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One 9.1
RSP is planned to support both SAP Business One on Microsoft SQL Server as well as SAP Business One on HANA Database
RSP Processes and Reports adapted to SAP HANA Database
With this plan RSP will help in the areas of Download, Installation, Go-Live Check, Monitoring, Upgrade and Support for SAP Business One both   on SQL Server and HANA.
But like me (non-SAP B1 Consultant) many of you have the question what is RSP and how it helps in support? Here I have tried to gather all information.
What is Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One?
The remote support platform for SAP Business One is designed to protect a SAP Business One installation by providing automated and remote support in a high-volume business.
The platform monitors the entire SAP Business One environment. By significantly reducing the time between the appearance, identification, and resolution of issues, the remote support platform for SAP Business One minimizes the impact on customer databases and processes.
Some Key Features of Remote Support Platform:
Showing alerts to SAP B1 Admin about the events which require their attention, such as low disk space, database backups, etc.
Incident Reports against the issues identified which require attention of SAP Support
Company Database Backup and Restore options
Regular fixes of Company Database inconsistencies
Check, Download and Install regular updates in SAP Business One
Upload Logs and required files to SAP Support or to Partner Support on regular basis
Some details about RSP Backup Management
Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly backups
Perform differential and full database backups
    Back up transaction logs
Back up files to shared folders on a network
    System Status Report through RSP
From June 1st 2013, it will be mandatory to install, configure and upload the System Status Report (SSR) from Remote Support Platform (RSP) for SAP Business One in order to receive support for messages of a technical nature (upgrades, performance & crashes, etc).
    Database uploads only via RSP
From June 1st 2013 SAP Business One Support will only accept database uploads to SAP via remote support platform for SAP Business One. In certain exceptional circumstances STFP may be used but this will constitute a minority of cases.
    Microsoft Windows PowerShell Scripting
In the remote support platform studio, you can create tasks using Microsoft Windows PowerShell scripting. PowerShell enables you to perform remote administrative tasks on customers’ Microsoft Windows operating systems, by providing full access to Component Object Model (COM) and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).Some Network Prerequisite for RSP
To achieve the internet connection test, you must allow port 80 for the RSP external communication
Disabling antivirus firewall or add the RSP to the trusted zone of the antivirus
    Set the correct proxy
Disabling Windows firewall in the TP_link Wireless Configuration Utility

  • Agent console in Remote Support Platform

    Hi Experts,
What is agent console in Remote Support platform? Also in the active task when you view the task there is an option named communication in the communication tab there is an option of customize so what is the reason behind it.
    Thanks in advance -
    Mona.

    Hello,
RSP consists of the following two applications:
    1. RSP Agent Service - This is a windows service, instantly running on a server (preferably SAP Business One server machine). The service itself does not have any UI, it is a background process. This is the "application logic".
    2. RSP Agent Console - The console is the user interface to configure, manage and use the RSP service. It can connect to a locally installed RSP Agent service or to a remotely installed RSP Agent Service (within the company intranet).
As for the communication settings in the task details:
    - Every  RSP task generates a report (XML file, HTML file) which is then sent by email to configured recipients or to SAP.
    - Communication channels specify, where, how and to whom the reports will be sent (email, SAP, saved locally to a directory).
    - By default, all tasks use the default settings configured in the RSP configuration.
    - The default settings can be overriden by the task specific configuration of communication channels. For example, for example you can configure the task to send the results to specific email recipients which are different from those configured in the RSP configuration. Or, you can turn off sending the results to SAP for a selected task. This way you can route results of task to relevant support people (experts) who are interested in them.
If you have any more comments or questions, I will be happy to answer.
    Best regards

  • Component Install Failed

    Hello,
I think I seriously messed up somewhere along the line.
I was using the Beta program and, when CS3 full became available, I uninstalled it. Only after I'd uninstalled it and tried installing the full version did I realise I hadn't deactivated the beta.
I received message about Component Install Failed on 2 items (CS3 and Shared Components).
So I uninstalled the parts of the full version which were successfully installed (Bridge, Toolkit, Device Central and StockPhotos) and followed the instructions to manually remove CS3 (I also scoured the registry to remove any references to any installed Adobe products, searched my PC for any references to Adobe and ran a few registry scrubbing programs) - I tried to install CS3 full again with the intention of deactivating it then uninstalling it but no success - I received the same errors as before.
I also just ran the new Windows CS3Clean script at Level 2 and it has not resolved the problem.
I've even manually searched for "cache.db" and "caps.db" files as someone in the Labs forum suggested that could be the file which holds the "activate" info for the beta.
I installed what I could of CS3 beta (Bridge, Toolkit, StockPhotos and Device Central) and tried to see if they had the option to "Deactivate" but I couldn't find them - is the "Deactivate" option only available from Photoshop?
I'm now stuck with the issue of being unable to install the CS3 full version due to CS3 Beta previous installation and cannot reinstalled CS3 Beta to deactivate because it also detects the CS3 full version installation attempt.

    --- PROBLEM SOLVED ---
    --- PROBLEM SUMMARY ---
Once creative suite 3 was installed, any application from the suite would display a dialog complaining that "Licensing for this product has stopped working". The log file located in c:\program files\common files\adobe\installers contained an error in regards to Flash Player 9
("Error 1714.The older version of Adobe Flash Player 9 Plugin cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.") The application log within the Windows event viewer also displayed an error pertaining to the inability to remove a previous version of the flash player from the system
(Product: Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX -- Error 1904.Module C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473. Contact your support personnel.).
Our enterprise is a long-time user (and abuser) of the Novell ZENworks snAppShot Utility in distributing applications via Novell Application Launcher. It is because of this unfortunate behavior that we must support many old application snAppShots. I was fortunate to have recently re-built my system and installed the Novell snAppShot for Flash 8 (the creator, not the player). This snAppShot contained Flash Player 8, and when installed via the snAppShot application object and not through its source MSI, it is unable to be uninstalled from that source MSI. As the Creative Suite 3 installer cannot be expected to deal with uninstalling applications that have been re-packaged, it was unable to remove the snAppShot version of Flash Player 8.
    --- PROBLEM SOLUTION ---
I enabled the uninstall function on the application object for Flash 8 and was able to forcefully uninstall Flash 8 (as well as the player it included). After uninstalling the application object, the CS3 install completed successfully.

  • "Component Install Failed" for CS3 on Windows 7

For reference, I have a Lenovo X200 Tablet PC, running Windows 7 and Creative Suite 3 Design Standard.
Last Friday, 9/23, I tried opening Illustrator and received an error message that told me to uninstall then reinstall the program. I received the same error message with InDesign and Photoshop. All three programs had, up to this point, been working fine.
I uninstalled CS3, restarted my computer, and attempted to reinstall. The shared components installed fine, but Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Version Cue, etc. did not install, and gave me the "Component install failed" error message.
I went through the list on this Support page.
I tried all of the Solutions except the ones based upon Windows Event Viewer error numbers (as my Event Viewer didn't show any of the listed numbers).
I didn't install any updates or download anything between the last time CS3 worked and when it failed on Friday, so I'm not sure what caused it to fail in the first place.
If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I'd appreciate it.

I spent the entire day trying and repeating all of the suggestions found in the forums.
My last effort resulted in a successful install CS3 Illustrator. I didn't try to install the rest of the suite.
You can search for the details on how to do some of these steps -- they are all in both support and in the forums.
    I uninstalled CS3.
Using control panel I uninstalled every other Adobe program - flash, air, extendscript  -- anything Adobe,
I ran the Creative Suite Cleaner tool as administrator
I did a couple of passes of registry cleaner - I used CCleaner
Then I manually deleted leftover adobe files and folders. Some were read only, but I changed the setting and deleted anyway
Then I ran another 2 registry cleaner passes
    I rebooted
    Ran CS3 install as administrator
    I opted just for Illustrator
    And I prayed!
It worked for me. (I will say that installation looked despressingly similar to all the failed attempts of the day.... slow and forever on the install of shared components, but then in the last 5% it did move on of the installation to Illustrator! And to my utter shock it installed successfully)
    Hope some of this helps.

  • Looking for an unattended over the internet remote support solution

    Did you look into ScreenConnect?

Hello everyone... I've read some discussions today regarding remote support tools. My background comes from an older version of Kaseya (perhaps 5 or earlier), some experience with GFIMax, and Bomgar. I have changed jobs and am looking for a similar solution for the company I am at to replace the current Kaseya implementation being managed by a vendor. We have less than 15 workstations/servers to maintain. I took a look at Remote Utilities this afternoon as well as DameWare and while I lean more towards DameWare, they do not support unattended remote access at this time. Remote Utilities looks like a good solution provided I install an RU server somewhere in the building. I was looking for a solution similar to Kaseya or GFI whereby there is a cloud based console that the agents check in to that I have access to from anywhere. Are there...

  • "Component Install Failed" while reinstalling Web Premium CS3

I purchased Web Premium CS3 about a year and a half ago, and have been using it successfully.  However, my machine recently experienced some operating system issues and the decision was made to reinstall the OS.  I was very careful to deactivate my CS3 software beforehand.
Now I am trying to reinstall my software and I am receiving an error message that simply says "Component Install Failed."  What should I do?

    Run the Cleaner tool: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Delete the caps.db in C:\Program Files\Common files\Adobe\caps and its backups
    Reinstall the programs
You will get the same error
Uninstall it again from your Add or Remove Programs system control panel without deleting the caps
    Reinstall again
This is a bug in the CS3 installer that requires this convoluted procedure. And naturalyl make sure you have sufficient user privileges and turned off your security tools or other potential interferences.

  • Remote Support Platform Latest News

Maintenance of remote support platform 2.3 for SAP Business One ended on December 31, 2011. As a consequence, no more patch or enhancement will be delivered for that version. SAP recommends that you upgrade all your customers to remote support platform 2.4 PL03 which is currently the latest version available. For a smooth upgrade, we recommend using the auto-upgrade functionality in remote support platform for SAP Business One, which allows a seamless upgrade to the latest version of the product. Partners however need to need to re-install their remote system platform in order to get the Support Studio as well.
Remote support platform 2.4 for SAP Business One is in unrestricted shipment. The new version, besides a refreshed user interface, offers an initialization wizard to fasten deployment for customers, a customized solution to improve the cooperation with the support organization, as well as improved security options. With version 2.4, we also introduce the remote support platform Studio that allows partners to publish and assign tasks to customers. Check out the document "Whatu2019s new in remote support platform 2.4" for details.
SAP highly recommends installing or upgrading to the new RSP release to benefit from our support offering.

    Hi,
Welcome you post on the forum.
Have you checked administrator guide of the RSP ?
    Thanks,

  • Remote support options for iPad?

We're looking at the iPad as a possible solution for a specific business case. However, I'll need some way to provide remote support to the iPad users. I've looked for VNC type apps but everything I've found just enables the iPad to be a client that connects to and remotely controls another system.
Is there a VNC server-like app for iPad that would let me provide remote support TO the device?

Since the OS on the iPad does not allow multitasking there is only one app running at a time. This would not allow a VNC server app to run.
Even with the preview of multitasking in iPhone OS 4 a VNC server would require access out of its sandboxed environment which it would not be allowed to have.
Another issue is that it is a multi-touch device that does not use a mouse cursor. I am not sure VNC can handle this.
Essentially what you are asking would be similar to someone controlling an iPhone remotely, since the iPad is much closer to an iPhone than it is to a computer.
A workaround may be to use video conferencing on a computer so that you can see the screen of the iPad, guiding the user through the steps required.
