"Bounce" objects in Motion 5?

Hey everyone,
I am trying to make an intro like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yVM3fGiJrs
And I was wondering how you could make the objects sort of "bounce" instead of just coming to a stop.
The obvious answer it just to keyframe it going further up than you want it and then keyframe it going back down, but I don't think that would be a very convincing bounce.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,

Group the objects that will bounce together. Add a Gravity Behavior to their group. Enclose that group in another group (select the group and type Command Shift G). Add an Edge Collision behavior to the "parent" group. Adjust the Height parameter to bring the bounce off the bottom edge of the canvas (if needed.) Adjust the Bounce Strength to about 40%. Adjust the Acceleration of the Gravity behavior to around 1000 (to start) and move the bouncing group above the canvas by about twice the distance it needs to travel (you might have to slide the behavior starts to before the start of the project to assist in timing the "entry" of the bouncing objects into the "scene"; and extend the out points of the behaviors to the end of the project so once the objects come to "rest", they'll stay in place.) Edge Collision + Gravity can provide a quite realistic bounce effect.

  • How can I make a ball bounce in Apple Motion 5

Can someone please tell me how to make a ball bounce in Apple Motion 5? I want it to fall from the top of the canvas and bounce a few times in the middle of the canvas. And I can't seem to figure out how to make the gravity and edge collision behaviors work. Someone please help a girl out! Thanks

Add all the behaviors to the circle shape (or whatever you want to fall and bounce.)
When you add the Edge Collision behavior, it is automatically set up for project bounds with a 100 px depth. You will probably want to set the Bounce Strength in Edge Collision to around 60-70%. A 100% bounce will never stop bouncing (unless other forces are applied to it -- like Drag.)
Behaviors added to the circle to create the motion path below:
(Circle starts at top of canvas)
Edge Collision:  Bounce Strength 65% (no other parameter change)
    Gravity: Acceleration 100.0
Throw: Throw Velocity > X > 32  (dial down the disclosure triangle)
    Drag: 0.3
    Project length: 30 seconds
Drag Behavior In Point: 15:20 (can be sooner or a little later). Drag is used to stop the "ball" motion.

  • How to match filters to moving object using motion tracking ?

    Hi:)
    Excuse me for imperfect english.
I'd like to perform the famous face wrao effect that I've seen in a tutorial for ADOBE AE.
I've to match move a filter (like distortion-bulge) o a moving object using motion tracking, but i've nit able to perform it.
(I want to distort an eye in a face that moves it)

  • 3D objects in Motion?

My friend and I were talking about making a silly The Matrix parody where the bullet is flying in 3D space. I own Motion 5, completley updated. Is there any way to create any kind of 3D objects, even a simple one, and put it in Motion where i can key frame it to turn around and put a light source on it?
Or is this something not possible in Motion? Like could i even make a round ball that i could keyframe to bounce up an down in motion?

Motion is not a 3D modeling app.  But that can be faked, with limits.
    See this for bouncing ball.

  • Objects in motion 3 library

I have placed 4 different Drop Zone Picture frames that I found in the Libary of motion 3. I dropped some video clip into these zones and added a filter, drpopped the speed to 50%. Everthing looks fine on my apple 23inch monitor but when I view on my external TV monitor there is a flicker on the drop zone pictures frames that I choose from the Library. Its like a rotational glow or sparkle around the frame objects....?????? please Help need to get this job done working on dead line :(:(:( help

Not much to suggest without seeing what you're up to other than add 1 pixel of blur to the dropzone objects.

  • Object with Motion Path Disappears On Layers

I have placed an image on the stage that I want to move from one object to another. (In this case, a "cookie" to move from a website image to a computer image.)
I have placed the cookie image on top layer, and on top of the web site image.
I have set up a motion path to move the cookie to the computer.
When I preview, the cookie image literally disappears, in a "wipe" motion.
I moved the cookie image to a plain area on the stage, and it moved just fine. It disappears only when layered with the other images, even though it is the top layer.  There is no "white space" that I should be dealing with on any of the images. The backgrounds are transparent.
    Any ideas?

Here's a screenshot with the motion path:
And here's a screenshot from preview. I left the background on here, and it actually looks like the square of the image is moving along the path, but the image itself moves out of the boundaries of the picture to the left (it's a .jpg file). That makes absolutely no sense.  This image has been resized (original is larger than the stage), but not cropped.  I have deleted and re-added this image several times.

  • Importing 3D object into Motion - what format?

I'd like to find out what formats motion supports for 3D objects, can't seem to find it documented anywhere...
    thanks,
    George

Save yourself the hard work, Noise Industries plugins have access to camera data from within a plugin.
    http://www.noiseindustries.com/
Anything imported into Motion results in a flat plane, but taking the above information could help in giving the contents a pseudo 3D effect.

  • How can I get an object to rotate around another object in Motion 5? Also, can I export on a transparent background to FCPX?

Attempting to make one .png (its and arrow) rotate around a circlular logo which is also a .png. I need to them come out of Motion 5 for FCPX on a transpartent background. Anyone have any help for me. Stuck on this for hours now.

    Thanks Russ...
I spend severale hours (new to Motion) trying to figure out how to set the orbit around the cicular logo. I was able to finally get it. I was missing the square under the orbit behavior that I could plug in the circular logo. lol... Once I got that set, I added to the align to motion behavior and set the drag to that behavior to get it all to rotate and work right. I then published as a generator to FCPX. After setting the background to transparent.
Works like a charm. Just took most of my day trying to figure it out. lol.. But thats how you learn I guess.
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Is there a way to import .svg file as objects into motion

Wondering if I can convert .svg images into .molo files in Motion 5.

The best way is to use InkScape (http://inkscape.org)... it's free...  but it runs under X11 (X Windows... basically, unix/linux).
If you don't mind a white background, you can convert anything you can open to PNG (without transparency).  Just open the SVG in firefox, safari or chrome. Expand the window to get the largest version of the image possible and type Command-Shift-4. You'll get a target cursor - click and drag around the area you want to capture. A PNG version will be saved to your desktop. [edit: if the image is small to begin with, in FF you can type command- + to increase the size -- as an svg, it will scale smoothly.]
You can try this service: http://www.fileformat.info/convert/image/svg2pdf.htm (I've never tried it.) Once you get it converted to PDF, it should import into Motion as .pdf.
There may be other free converters around.

  • How do I make a fixed edge feather over an object in motion?

This is probably something really simple to do, but I'm struggling trying to find instructions anywhere on how to do this.
Anyways, I have an image that I added motion to so it moves across the screen. I want an edge feather on both sides of the screen though so it fades in instead of just appearing from the edge of the video. When I try to apple an edge feather filter, it feathers the edges of the image and moves with it. Is there a way I can do this? Maybe a mask of some sort? I tried using a slug and positioning it and feathering it as I want, but a slug is a solid color and then it blocks out the video behind it.
    Thanks!

Assuming your keyframed shot isn't scaled down, move it up to V3 and on V2 insert a Square
shape from the generators tab. Scale and add softness according to the amount of 'Fade' you require
and select composite mode 'Travel Matte-Luma' to V3. You should see V3 fade in but retain it's hard edge.

  • How do I make the camera track an object in motion?

    Hi there,
I have a scene where two cars are driving down a road. I wonder if there is a behavior to pan the view to automatically follow these cars. (as if a helicopter is flying over and watching a speed chase.) I've got the project set up with one group (entire scene) ecompassing the cars and the map. I tried putting a move behavior on this scene and just draging the scene to show what I want in the view as the cars drive but this is too jumpy for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Caleb

  • How to keyframe 3D transform objects in Motion

    hello,
i cant seem to find how to keyframe a 3d transform object in my project?
i have a text object that id like to spin in 3d but i cant seem to find where to keyframe in the inspector or timeline...
    thanks!
    steven

    hi,
I dont want to appear rude but have you looked in the manual under keyframes?
If you highlight the text object ( maybe better the layer its in in case you want to add more text later),
and hope over to the inspector you can click on the triangle next to the rotation parameter to show all three degrees of rotation. You can add keyframes by clicking the contextual manual to the right of the parameter or by turning on the big red button and manually moving the object.
Or instead of keyframing you could add a spin behaviour to the object.

  • Can I exempt certain objects from motion blur?

I'm noticing that motion blur is affecting the movement within embedded video clips.  In other words, when a person in my video moves, there's motion blur behind them.  I only want motion blur to affect movement created within the program.  Is there a way for me to tell it not to apply blurring to the embedded video clips?

Apply blur only to the Layers you want.

  • Turning a 2D circle into an M&M looking object in Motion

Is there a tutorial somewhere for doing this. It must be fairly simple, but i just cant get the look i am trying to get. Easy in photoshop, but I am trying to get everything made in motion if possible.
    Thanks
    MR C

Well, how would you do it in Photoshop? The process will be similar in Motion.

  • Motion 4 and 3D objects from Photoshop CS4?

Anyone know if Motion 4 can work with 3D formats supported in Adobe's Photoshop CS4? i.e. U3D, 3DS, OBJ, DAE, KMZ??
    Thanks, Rob.

    Hmmm...yes and no.
For example Cinema 4D -- produce your 3D object and even animate it if so desired, leave off the lighting as one would want Motion to handle that since it can even if limited. Put the 3D object in Motion and go to town on composition with 3D camera motion and lighting. Motion is not really manipulating the object, but it's treating it as a real 3D object in a real 3D camera space. And for that matter Motion could do reflective surfaces (if updated to do so).
Yes they are different, but they are relative parts of the development of a composition (movie, commercial, or even just a web ad). It's part of the process, a part that is seriously MISSING in FCS 3 and in any Apple's pro applications lineup.
Now I realize Cinema 4D isn't cheap $1000 entry (unless you get Student version) up to $3600 for a full studio bundle. This is obviously a big step up. BUT, Apple don't necessarily have to go as far as Cinema 4D -- a simplified variant say equal to Cinema 4D core product $1000. If you think it justifies a separate product (similar to the now dead Shake) then sell it as such but provide support for it's output in Motion.
Point being, there is a BIG HOLE in the Apple Pro Application lineup. Apple have Aperture, FCS, LS, but nothing in the world of 3D. Heck, even a limited 3D tool is a start, something to fill the void -- like AC3D (support OSX) $80 -- even if somewhat primitive it can be start.
Sure, no full body and even room scanners like the Pro's use, but just to getting something primitive going.
    Rob.
