BPM Process - Exception handling or timeout issues?

Hi Guys,
I have a BPM process as below.
1. Receive step: Receive the file with multiple transactions.
2. Transformation step: Split the file into individual transactions
3  Block step which includes  -- par for each mode
1. Send Step (Synchronus): Each individual transaction needs to contact the 3rd party system and get the response. --  Do i need to handle any exceptions here  ?
2. Container : Collect all the responses
Block ends
4. Transformation: combine all the responses in to a single file
5. Send Step: synchronus -- send the above single file and get the response back
6. Transformation : Transform the above response into the target structure.
7.  Send: send the message asynchronusly to the target system
I need suggestion regarding the exceptional handling or any time out issues, i need to take care of.
any suggestions would be really appreciated
Thanks,
Raj

Hi,
I) For the Block holding the Sync Send, create an Exception Block. (right click on Sync Send -> Insert   -> Exception Branch)
II) Name the Exception block (ex: exceptionHandler).
III) in the Sync Send step ->Properties -> Exceptions -> in System Error - add exceptionHandler.
IV) Now within the Exception handler block you can create containers to hold values from payload, throw exception as email etc).
This will cover your sync send step incase there is an error while sending the request of a timeout during receiving the response.
You can also do the same for the Step 7) Asycn send - if required.
Another suggestion in your question Step 6) can be done outside the bpm, when you do the interface determination for that Asycn Send you can add the Interface mapping that will map the responses to the target structure.
Doing this will reduce one step in your BPM. For further information in how more you can fine tune your bpm, read this blog - https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/5113. [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken]
All the best.

  • Integration Process exception handling & alerts, Java

    Hello,
I would like to enhance my basic scenarios fool proof and with as much Java as possible.
I have set up several asynchronous and synchronous File to SOAP transfers between systems A and B
using PI70 including my own Java mapping classes and PI's AF_Modules beans. They work just fine.
I have not designed my own Integration Processes yet, so execution is based on channel settings and availability timing.
I have learned this aproach may be exposed to general faults resulting manual monitoring and repairing.
For example server problems at receiver side can result data losses as sender channel just keeps removing source
files like normally, as the process would be better to just stop right there and alert or something.
My question is, is the "Enterprise services Builders" Integration Process & Graphical definition screen the one and only tool to
customize whole process exception handling and alerts in PI, and Java is not an option?
    Appreciate your advice on this.
    Kind regards m

    Hi m,

    >>I have learned this aproach may be exposed to general faults resulting manual monitoring and repairing. If you are looking to handle this particular scenario, then we have the alert mechanism and CCMS monitoring. There you will come to know whether the end system down or not.
Also in addition to this you can write your own java (in message mapping, as modules, java mapping) /abap code (as abap mapping, user exit in standard functions etc) for providing more details in error scenarios. But you need to validate whether the maintenance/development cost for the code is justified in your scenarios

  • BPM - RFC exception handling

    Hi,
I have a Syn-RFC call in my BPM. I would appreciate help regarding the exception handling on the RFC.
Ideally the RETURN parameter in RFC will be populated if theres an error. The BPM needs to check if there are entries in RETURN, if so then stall the message in MONI as error and mail support with contents of RETURN. only if RETURN is empty (success), it should go ahead with next step.
    Thanks.

What ERP version are you working with?
If 4.7+, consider using ABAP Proxy instead of RFC.
There, you can define a fault message in the interface and it will be triggered if there is an exception at server application.

    Henrique.

  • BPM Process Spaces: Attachments and Comments issue

    Hi,
I've integrated BPM Process Spaces with WebCenter Spaces. When I'm trying to initiate a Process and send comments and attachment, the values for them is not passed from step to another. For example, if user A initiate a task with comments and attachments and send it to user B; user B can't see the comments and attachments from user A.
I searched the internet and I found conflict answers, some answers are saying that comments and attachments are not supported and others are saying it's working.
Can please someone give me a definitive answer and the configuration required if any?
Also can someone give me a definitive answer about how to configure BPM to store attachment in UCM?
This is urgent as I'm preparing a customer POC next week.
    Thanks
    Regards

after some investigations I found the following:
    - Users can attach documents and provide comments on task level from the task details page. The attachments and comments will only be available for this specific task but not on the process level.
    - Users can attach documents and provide comments on Process level from the Process Tracking page-> Audit Trail part. The attachments and comments will available for all the tasks in the process
    - in BPM 11.1.1.5 Features Pack. Integration with UCM has been developed and also comments and attachments can be defined as Task level or Process level when ever the user want to provide one.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Integration Process - Exception Handling

    Hi,
I have developed an integration process, which call web-service, and catch it's exception. The problem is that the WS returns generic exception (SYSTEM) for all exceptions, but with different text for each one.
Is there any way to get the exception text (the text itself and not the type), analyze it and handle the process correspondingly?

    Hi Shai,
When you are calling the web-service method in BPM, put it in a block.....in the exception branch of the block, the control will go when the web-service will give exception.........so then put a switch in the exception branch - put the exception message as a condition for switching - do switching on basis of message text - and in the switch branches, do what you want to do for those exceptions.
    Hope it solves your query.

  • Delete all instance for the BPM process

How can I delete all instances or specific instance of the BPM Process except redeploy the process and unchecked the keep all instance option??

    Hi
Just a small correction. When you ReDeploy Workflow SCA file and Uncheck the option to keep running instances, if I am not wrong, all OLD instances are NOT deleted. They just become STALE (change the status). BUT these instances are still there in the Database but not show up in the Worklist/Workspace app. You may see these Tasks but you CANNOT open them and it says like Task Details Not Found etc.
But if your intention is to delete the instances permanently, then see the earlier post on how to delete from EM. This will take care of permanently deleting.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have a BPM process which calls a webservice in one of its activities. The webservice throws an exception so the response will contain a soap fault element. Hi fifty,
Did you get a solution to the above problem you have mentioned? I have a similar issue i am trying to fix.
I have a webservice call in a process activity and if the call does not work i get a soap fault and the fuego.lang.ComponentExecutionException . My process requires that i catch the exception infact any kind of exceptions that occur on that call and perform another activity in the process.
I have defined an exception handler at the activity level for java.lang.Exception and java.lang.RunTimeException.
i don't see anything in the catalog which would handle the SOAP fault OR the componentexception.

  • Exception Handling of Screenflows inside Processes

    Greetings,
We are currently encountering a problem where some unhandled Exceptions are not being caught in our BPM application.
Whenever an exception occurs inside a process, BPM has provided a way of handling those exceptions by using the “Process Exception” activity (this looks like a small lightning bolt). All errors that are not caught but are of the compatible type would fall into this activity and get processed.
The problem arises when your process has a Global Activity Interactive Screenflow. Whenever this screenflow encounters an error inside its flow, it does not get caught by the “Process Exception” activity even though this process was the one that invoked it.
We can try to make some exception handling per automatic activity inside the Screenflow itself but this usually results in large try-catch statements and multiple connections to custom defined exception activities. This may not be the optimal solution to this.
Would anyone be able to shed some light on this or offer some best practices on how to resolve these issues?
    Thank you very much!
    Oracle BPM Suite 10.3.2

Wish I had a better answer for you. Telling you something that you already know, but if you've defined the Global's property with "Has instance access" then you can catch the exceptions in the process.
Undoubtedly though, you've got a standalone Global or you would not be asking the question. The exception from a Global that does not have instance access can't get caught in the process because there was never an instance created for it inside the process.

  • Issue with exception Handling in GG

    Hi,
I have bi-directional DML replication setup. I have written a code in replication parameter for handling the exception , Exception handling is working fine my replicate process is not getting ABENDED but Issue is I am not geeting any rows in EXCEPTION table.I had gone through replicat report, there I had seen GG is trying to inser duplicate records in EXCEPTION TABLE and it is failing because of that .
**Command for create Exception Table is-**

Remove (disable) the constraint on the exceptions table and see if inserts will take place. Do you really need that primary key?

  • BPM - Exception handling in multiline mapping

    Hi,
I have in a BPM a block with processing mode ParForEach containing a transformation and then a send step.
If the transformation (mapping) generates an exception for one of the lines of the multiline variable being processed, no subsequent lines are passed to the send step.
I want the process to execute the mapping for each line and then send messages corresponding to lines without error. How can I do?
    Thank you
    Simona

    Hi Simona,
I also feel that Michal had suggested the correct solution. Not sure why you are saying that the error gets propagated, if you have defined a proper Exception handling for the inner block.
But regarding your design for "ParForEach", I am not sure whether you really need to carry out a transformation step for each Block instance, in which case you can keep the transformation step before the "ParForEach" block.

  • 11g ADF TaskFlow Exception Handling in BPM

    Hi Guys
    BPM 11g
I have a human task that is implemented as an ADF task flow. I would like to be able to throw an exception from the ADF application and have it handled by the BPM process, does anyone know if this is possible or how I would do that?
At the moment I have an ADF error page - I could return an "error" outcome to the process from that but an error is an error and it feels right to show that in the process instead of a normal outcome.
    anyone else worked through this?
    cheers,
    Steve

  • Error Handling Inside BPM Process

    Hi All,
I have a scenario in which, when a BPM Process errors out due to any of the System Exception I'm catching it using a Event SubProcess activity and handling it.
    Problem:
I want the control to get back to the next activity i.e Normal Process should resume once the control is out of the Event SubProcess.
I found that using a Normal Subprocess with boundary event helps to resume the flow back to normal control. But Its difficult to have individual Subprocesses for N number of activities.
Is there any other method to overcome this?
    Please provide a solution.
    Two Cents,
    Karthick.

I'll bow out of this thread after this post, but a couple thoughts.

I don't mean for this to sound harsh and please keep in mind that I don't know the problem you're trying to solve or what you're process looks like.
    >
Yes we do, but we have many activities inside a single process since the business is big.
    >
Sounds like you're pretty far down the road now, but just a word of caution. I've found myself on projects with large processes. It's not just exception handling that you'll find more difficult, but many things became more cumbersome to maintain in a large process.
    >
A thought of using Boundary Events with subprocess looks good but its not possible to use a single sub process for all boundary events in order to resume to normal activity.
    >
I did not follow this. If you invoke a subprocess using a Call activity, you'd be able to add a boundary event on the Call activities for the activities in the called sub process. You'd also have a process that is easier to read and maintain.

  • BPM CBS - Exception during process compilation

    Hi Experts,
I am developing a BPM process using SAP NWDS 7.2 and a remote NWDI track.
I have the following issue: When I edit my process, I create an activity for submit this changes. Later I try to check-in the activity and everything is okay, but when I try to activate it, the build finished with Errors. This is very unusual because locally I can to build this project without errors, and I can to deploy it directly to the Server without errors.
The summary of error in CBS Build Log is the following:

    Hello,
    This issue is resolved now.
The problem was with the file system space on the Unix server(on which portal is installed).
The server administrators and the Basis team extended the disk space and issue got resolved.
    Thanks for all your inputs.

  • BPM Exception Handling control step

    Hi,
Does anybody have any idea, whats the variable we need to pass in the control step of exception handling  in BPM? and how to map the error message back to the RFC Response.
I had Transformation step, in that mapping is also there.
    Is there any ideas??.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

    Hi,
The requirement was to send the exception that occured to a target (say file).
    <i>insert a block for the exception</i>
You cannot place an exception step without a block right... thats what i mean by the above statement.
Now, just after the exception has taken place, if i put a transformation step, and a send step, you will be taking care of sending the exception message to the target.
<i>how to build the exception message ? It should map from what?</i>
You could build a data type for the exception.
In the mapping, you could map it to constants. For ex:
if you build your DT as
    <excep>
    <code/>
    <desc/>
    </excep>
You could map the description to a constant string "timeout".
After this, the send step will send the message to the file, through the abstract interface that you create.
    Regards,
    Smitha.
