Brand new Windows 8.1 labtop suddenly acts unpredictably

Hi. Welcome to the wacky world of Windows *.1 I'm a new user too. I have spent the last three months around the clock fighting viruses and malware and such and been on the phone with tech support 24/7. Beware of false tech support they will not come
to you. My computer was crashing then a popup said your financial and personal info has been compromised call this number. I panicked cuz my new computer was crashing and called the number. they took me to a website to prove that they were a third party company
who works with Microsoft. They called themselves support buddy which is a app that MS techs use to get control of your computer to help you mfix it. I asked them why they needed 3rd party help. They said they have such an overflow of calls they need help.
so I gave him control of my comp. he fixed it from crashing and talked me into a years worth of support for $249.00. Two days later every time I opened my computer it took pictures of me (like 50 of them ) and sent them all around the world. I finally got
the real Microsoft support who was much less expensive but he told me I had been phished and that only Microsoft deals with their customers. anyway, to help you....move your cursor to the right side of the page till the green section opens and go to settings,
then go to pc settings. there you will find a section dealing with your cursor and you can set how long the lag time is when you move it. Be careful with these settings. I over did it and set mine too far then the keyboard wouldn't work. had to plug in an
external one to fix it. it was the settings for how long you hold down the keys before they retype another letter or something like that. youll figure it out just adjust things slowly and see what it does.
sounds like you already got a virus or malware I would call tech support because none of my virus protection caught anything. It will get worse very quickly over time if you have one. I just read that when you set up your computer you are not supposed to
log on as administrator because that lets in the really sneaky viruses and Trojans that make your computer act crazy for no reason. the number I called was 1-800-936-5700.I got the number off the Microsoft tech support chat room so I think theyre ok. They
cost $149.00 for a month of support and another$45 for a whole year. not too bad considering the trouble your going to have. One place tried to charge $549.00 for the first month. Be careful, these guys really know what theyre doing and really seem like
they're the real deal so ask lots of questions!!!! How do I know your from Microsoft? or what company did you say your from? remember MS doesn't use third party companies for tech support, no matter what they do to try to convince you that they do. One guy
took me to a website that had their name listed as a microsoftaffiliate and everything and my tech guy said no that's all a scam. Good luck. and read all you can. Im ready to send this back and switch to a mack. I had to close my bank account and everything. Now
they call me several times a day. Its a nightmare. I cant decide what group I'm supposed to sign on as if not as administrator. I think that's how my computer crashed in the first place and how they got so far up in my life. Be careful and
good luck

• Safari 8 - tab opens as a new window all of the sudden

So I'm using Safari 8.0.2 on Yosemite. I came across a bug (or is it a new feature?):
When I have a page opened as a new tab, sometimes, all of the sudden, this tab detaches from the main Safari window to become a new window. This happens as I move my mouse and read but I don't click on anything. I don't touch the keyboard either. it seems it just happens by itself randomly.
Anyone has experienced the same issue? I find this pretty annoying.
When it happens I would like to move this new window back as a tab of my main Safari window. I generally don't want to have multiple windows opened with Safari. I prefer to open links in multiple tabs.
I hope someone has a solution to this issue.
Thank you!

What you describe happens when you drag a tab out of the tab bar. Are you sure that's not what you're doing? Is the trackpad otherwise behaving normally? Are any other pointing devices connected, such as a tablet, either via USB or Bluetooth?

• I HAVE A BRAND NEW IPHONE 5S. IT SUDDENLY DOESNT WANT TO CHARGE. IT SAYS THE CHARGER IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MY DEVISE. WHY DID THAT HAPPEN?

I have a brand new iphone. All of a sudden it will not charge. When i plug the charger to the phone it says that charger its not compadible with my phone and sometimes it will charge up to 4% and then it wont charge any more. Why is this?

If your phone is still under warranty, get it checked by Apple or visit an Authorized Apple Service Provider to find out what the problem might be.
Could be the USB adapter, USB cable or the docking port of the phone.

• Brand new ipod-touch internal speaker suddenly stopped working all-together? Please help!

Just got my brand new, white Ipod- Touch and was surfing on youtube, watched a video and mid video the sound just vanished. now no sounds come from the internal speaker whatsoever, but headphones still work. I have tried restarting it as well as reseting, can anyone help me?! Thanks a lot!

That sounds like a mechanical problem. You might want to insert and remove the headphone plug several times and see if it fixed the issue. If it does not, call Apple. 800-275-2273 in the U.S.A. and I think Canada.

• I got a brand new windows 7 computer and can not install itunes

I tired to install itunes on my new windows 7 professional 64 bit computer. I downloaded "iTunes64Setup.exe" and get during execution of that program the error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Does anybody know what to do to get this install running to completion?

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
That's an interesting variation. It's a 1723 error message. (1721 and 1722 are more common.)
Even though the following user tip is about slightly different errors (the 1721 and 1722), perhaps try it with your one too:

• HP BC-555OH Rom driver firmware needed for HP6154EA for brand new windows install.

I was installing a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate onto my HP 6154EA then it asked me for the drivers for the cd/dvd drive before installation could continue. Searching the HP website & using google/yahoo to find 3rd party sites, I have unable to locate this driver. As a HP customer I just can not understand to why this HP website does not have the driver for this disk rom of BC-555OH.
Why is this the case & where can I locate this driver that is as standard to this model Hp dv7 in the UK?
A response would be appreciated.
thanks.

I see that you are looking for a driver for your cd/dvd or optical drive for your notebook. The reason you can't find a driver for the optical drive is that is normally provided by the operating system itself. You mentioned doing a fresh install does that mean you did a format on your hard drive or is this a new hard drive?

• Brand new Mac Pro tower fan suddenly runs full-tilt, CPU is idle

My Quad-Core MacPro tower is two days old. Initially, I was impressed with how quiet it was compared to my older Macbook Pro. Then on day two, for some reason it started running very loudly. It's not just a "little" loud- my wife walked into the room and asked what the noise was.
At first I thought this was just because I was hitting the CPU a bit (importing my iPhone library into iLife '09, and running Eclipse). But I tried powering it off & letting it cool down for a few minutes to no avail; about 10 seconds after powering up, the box gets loud again. I took a look at it with the side cover off, and it seems to be the fan near the top middle, between the power supply and the disk drive.
It can't be a dust issue, as the machine is only 2 days old (and I peeked inside anyway just to be sure- clean). I did do a software update over the past 24 hours or so, but I can't say that it occurred immediately after that. I also did a migration of my old apps and data from my MBPro, for what it's worth.
Why is it suddenly so loud? How can I monitor the fan speed and various system temperatures?
Thanks
EDIT: Activity Monitor shows a virtually idle CPU; there's nothing running that ought to be causing this, as far as I can tell.

• I have just recently purchased a brand new windows 8 hp laptop, I was wondering how I install a anti virus software?

Does anyone know how to do this?

How is a Windows 8 Laptop in any way related to an iPad, or Apple for that matter?
If you mean how to install an antivirus on an iPad the answer above is correct. You don't need any. Though there are some in the App Store, that don;t really work becuase of the nature of the iPad's operating system. However if that si the case, i;m not sure how the windows 8 comes into play.

I was messing around on my brand new ipod touch and it suddenly crashed. it flashed a static-y black and now the screen is bluish white and won't change. I tried holding both the home button and the black button on top of the ipod and neither helped. I even connected it back to my mac book but nothing happened. please help! i've only had it for two days!

• Why is 'Open link in new tab' suddenly opening a new window?

When I right click, and choose 'Open link in new tab', it instead opens the link in a new window. This happened suddenly with seemingly no cause. I have checked and double checked the option "Open new windows in new tabs instead" but it was checked. How can I fix it?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

fed up with issues between Apple and Microsoft. My brand new Windows 8.1 notebook (replacing a trusty windows 7 netbook) doesn't allow me to download itunes. Windows 7 managed without problem. I am not particularly geek minded so can anyone tell me in simple words, how to down load itunes to Windows 8 and get my ipod working again please. Thanks

• Brand new Pavillion Slimline Windows 7 - audio distorted - Realtek HD drivers not working?

Just got a brand new Windows 7 box - HP Pavillion slimline
the audio is distorted - you especially hear it when using the CPU - so if I'm playing a track in iTunes, and i open my Chrome browser with 5 tabs, I get a ton of distortion in the audio.
This distortion is regardless of output - external speakers or headphones.
And regardless of program - itunes, WMP, etc.
I have tried installing older and newer versions of the Realtek HD driver from the HP site, and the latest windows 7 version from the Realtek site to no avail.
I have also tried running the latest Realtek driver from their site in compatibility mode for Windows Vista SP2 - no good.
What can I do to solve this?? I called HP tech support and they have no other ideas! Help!

I have registered only to help you hehe. I uninstalled NORTON ANTIVIRUS and all my sound problems disappeared like MAGIC Try it!

• This is what worked for me to install 8.1 Pro on brand new rmbp late 2013 NO WORKAROUND

15 in rmbp, late 2013. Extrernal apple USB drive. USB key for bootcamp drivers. Brand new windows 8.1 pro full version from store. No Upgrade.
Used Bootcamp assistant to 1) save drivers to usb key 2) partition drive to two. Left usb key and drive connected.
Bootcamp assistant reboots mac, windows splash screen. Follow instructions including having to reformat the newly created partition which is usual. No bootcamp parttionn name is present but it should be obvious which is the OSX and Windows partition. Windows begins installing then fails. rmbP is stuck.
Restart nothing, just grey screen. Call apple care. Have to PRM, press on, hold command option P and R keys.Release when apple beep starts. Then it will boot back into OS-X
Boots into osx. Go to bootcamp assistant. Follow instructions and windows partition is removed to give a single OSX parttion. Reopen bootcamp assistant. Repartition. leave USB key and external drive attached. Restart and follow instructions as before. NO issues.
Note, the "almost ready" splash screen hangs for a long time.
Then bootcamp installer comes up. Build 5411.NVIDA driver installed etc. Auto resart after drivers installed. USB drive and key attached. WIndows splash screen. SUCCESSFULLY installed.
OI can also hold down option now on restart to sleect which OS to boot into . WORKS GREAT.
I suspect you have to do a PRM reset after first failure using bootcamp assistant to get it to install properly thereafter.
After I did this I was able to install fine using bootcamp installer in OS-X. No need for ANY work arounds.

This process worked for me on a new Mac Pro (early 2014) to get Windows 8.1 (not 8.0) installed, although I did make one slight change to the process: instead of following your advice at the point: "Restart and follow instructions as before", I instead restarted and used the windows partitioner dialog to 1) delete the bootcamp partition, and 2) create a new partition that was slightly smaller than the remaining available space (by about 1GB). The installer said it might need to create an additional small partition (which it did). I continued with the rest of the install process as you describe above. (Yes, it did take a long time to get past the "almost ready" part.)
Thank you very much for your post!

• Brand new iMac 27" i3 is flashing blue screen

My brand new Imac (one-day old) is acting very odd as it slowly flashes a pulsating light blue screen when I try to access Apple Menu (restart/sleep/shutdown) features. No matter what I do it will not turn off. I have since had to do a hard shutdown but now it stops at an error screen upon start-up that tells me to restart!
I am Mac savvy and this has never happened to me. Prior to this happening, I called Apple Tech Support because I could not use their Mac Migration feature to move my info off of a G4 running 10.4.11. Tech support could not help either as wireless, ethernet and direct Firewire attempts yielded no Migration results. I finally had to pull the hard drive out of the G4 and hooked it up to the new iMac. Everything seemed to transfer except when it was done the contents of what I just copied thru Migration was nowhere to be found. That is when I started experiencing the slow-flash blue screen phenom and is where I am stuck today.
I am ready to take this thing back. In all my years I have never had a problem like this with an Apple product. Any help or insight will be appreciated.

ONE
Paul has given you good advice in that I would reinstall the OS from the supplied disks to get your computer working properly.
TWO
Then re-install your old programs (only those you really need since they are likely PowerPC, not “universal” Intel programs) from their original disks.
THREE
If you have the user data from the old drive backed up, then hopefully you can restore your user data to the new drive or buy an enclosure and access the old data as needed (which is what I did when originally migrating from a Power Mac G5 to the iMac (late 2009).
Alternatively, if step ONE is problematic and your machine is defective, you can likely return it to Apple within 14 days (or whatever the law is in your country) for a replacement or refund and purchase a new iMac just released today. Steps TWO and THREE still apply in this case.
