If this is still under warranty try to contact HP support and if it is out of warranty ask them what other steps you should do otherwise if nothing else works you might have to take it to a shop so see what they can do or send into HP to see what they can do to fix it.

     2. Operating System installed

     3. Error message
Caps Lock flashes twice (BIOS Corrupted)
     4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
Updating BIOS, tripped on cable, lost power, bios corrupted.
         Initially tried reinstalling bios with a USB;
battery out, usb in, win + b held down, plug in power, turn on.
usb light flashed few times, it did not find \*.bin so no install.
Then, it was CMOS battery out, laptop battery out, unplugged, left it overnight.
         Didn't reset bios.
         Then, I tried USB again,
    I read I should've renamed 0143FF27.bin to 0143.bin or even 0143F.bin
but it's no longer reading the USB drive since I took out/replaced CMOS battery....
Any help would be greatly appreciated, exams coming up, a working laptop would be amazing

    Welcome to the HP Forum!
    Try a hard reset.
Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
    press the power button
If it does not help then you have reached a point where only a shop or service center capable of reprogramming and/or replacing the BIOS eeprom chip can help.
It is sad to say it, but the normal result for interruption of BIOS updating , even if inadvertent, is the creation of a laptop shaped Brick.
It can be repaired but not by anything we can tell you except Contact HP or a BIOS repair company.
    Kind regards,

  • Corrupted bios (Procedure need using USB flash)

    Hi Everyone:
After allowing some Updates operating system failed to boot. With 2 LEDs lights appearing, indicating corrupted bios. Tried all methods available for restoring the BIOS including Key combination trick, available officinally by HP site, butdid not yied any result.
I currently have a USB ready and equipeed with th latest HP tools thing. And here is my HP model
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/previousVersions?softwareitem=ob-120365-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4...
My question is what are the proper steps I should follow as well as the files that should be pasted into the Current/previous/New files, given the type of my model. Please note that the laptop is bricked and I can not get any sort of access to the system. In addition to that. Restoring the bios using the official key combination trick did not work too.
Last but not least, it worth mentioning that I almost gone through several pages and almost 6 stright hours of reading and surfing. But none was helpful. Appreciate any feedback.

  • Flashing a Corrupted bios when the alternate bios still works

Now that many motherboards are coming out with a back up bios, many people are asking about how to flash the failed bios. (BIOS A & B)
All you need to do is download the bios you want to flash, then using a fat32 formated usb stick, run the forum bios flashing tool.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Do not begin this process unless your computer is 100% stable! Many bios failures are due to faulty ram etc, if you corrupt your "good" bios the board is dead!
1.) Remove any overclock you have.
2.) Boot using the working bios, with the memory stick inserted into the usb port.
3.) As soon as the flashing tool screen comes up and you need to input, reach down and switch to the nonworking bios. (DO NOT SWITCH FROM BIO A TO B UNTIL THE FLASHING TOOL HAS LOADED)
    4.) Proceed with FLASH.
*This relates and has been tested on all mainboard with a true hardware switch. Z77a-gd80, M-Power, Big Bang X-power, X79a etc)
Note: If you use the above process with a z77a-gd65, it will appear that it has worked. The bios won't ACTUALLY switch unless the system is powered down. IE You will have it set to bio "b" after a power down and flash the bios. You then re-boot and switch to bios "A" and flash. In reality, you have just re-flashed bios "B" and wont see the difference until you actually power down the system. A re-boot will not switch the bios's!
    Process for P67, Z68 and z77a-gd65:
Since the P67 & Z68 both have automatic software switches that operate their dual bios's, the process is a bit different.
If you want to flash both bios's or you see the led indicator showing a corrupt bios, you do a normal bios flash with a single extra step.
After a standard bios flash/ you realize one of your bios's are corrupted, enter bios and navigate to the security section and enable multi bios flashing.  Save & Exit, and the board handles the rest.
Note: This will NOT work if you want to flash backwards. Multi bios update will flash to the most recent version installed. So if you have the P67 & Z68 make sure you don't flash your backup bios unless you are really sure you like the new one.
In the case of the z77-gd65 you are still able to achieve this, but you must flash your bios, power off the machine, switch the bios switch then flash again.
    Z77A-GD65 Update:
In regards to the Z77A-GD65, it appears that the only bios the has a properly working multi bios update is version 10.5.
I would recommend to most of you to flash you bios "B" to this bios for recovery if nessesary. I am sure this will be corrected, but for now this seems to be true.
Also to note, you should always keep your back up bios at the earliest stable bios version so that it is a fail safe. Flashing both bios at the same time is really counter productive.
    Thanks
    Update: 06/07/2013
All new release mainboards (Z87) with multiple bios's are equipped with a true hardware switch. So the same process to recover a faulty bios remains the same as Z77a-gd80 onward.

When attempting to recover any of the LGA 1150 mainboards.
Please use FPT, which is included with the latest posted bios here: >>BIOSes<< If you would like to use an older or un-posted version, FPT can be downloaded here: <<<FPT for DOS>>>

If it is Windows 8 then you need to install the wireless button driver to return that function to your notebook.
You probably need to reinstall the Realtek Card reader driver and the Intel USB 3.0 host controller driver software driver to clear the missing device driver issues.

  • NEO-FSR (MS-7030) Corrupt BIOS recovery issues.

I'm tempted to title this "What I did wrong when flashing the BIOS" but I think it's better just telling you my experience of using LiveUpdate3 to flash the BIOS from 1.x to 1.9.
    MS-7030 Neo-FSR
The main mistake I made was trusting that the defaults for the applications were correct. This is most evident when I chose the Windows update process from LiveUpdate3. As I remember it when the BIOS update utility started an immediate button arose which said UPDATE. Not taking the time to review the screen to see what was not in focus and below the focus of the button I hit UPDATE. It erased my BIOS. And while it was erasing my BIOS I was thinking how odd it was that those boxes were not checked. They should have been. Oh well, the defaults should do. Right? Obviously not. I should have chosen all of the four available buttons on the left. When the boxes are not checked it CLEARS the BIOS and then says it UPDATES. It UPDATES nothing.
If the utility will erase the BIOS when none of the boxes are checked the button should say ERASE BIOS! not UPDATE. The button should indicate the summation of chosen action. If none of the boxes are checked then ERASE BIOS! If some are checked indicate what's being changed.
RULE: Don't click on the first button made available. Take a few minutes extra time to examining all the options on the screen that could impact your upgrade. Some options are hidden beyond the first obvious button.
The second mistake was not knowing which BIOS I had. Before this problem occurred I paid no attention to the BIOS. I always take the defaults and never overclock. So I didn't really know which BIOS I had. In trying to remedy the problem I confused the AMI process of holding down CONTROL and HOME with the AWARD process. The AWARD process doesn't use this.
The screens say AWARD. The sticker on the chip said PHOENIX. I thought they were different brands. But they are one in the same.
RULE: Always know which brand BIOS you have. There are now two AMI and PHOENIX/AWARD.
The third mistake I made was not knowing how to create a BIOS rescue disk. The LiveUpdate3 utility created the disk for me and I paid no attention to it. I should have examined the files to see what was being done for me.
RULE: Always know the recovery process for your brand of corrupt or erased BIOS.
My fourth mistake and related to the third was not knowing how to recover a corrupt or erased BIOS. The process is to insert a properly prepared  floppy, turn on the box and wait until it reads the floppy. I should get a BEEP. A splash screen comes up with a F1 or DEL option. If I do nothing a second text screen comes up with a basic BIOS configuration. I presume that I should be able to make a selection beyond by clicking on something on that screen. However being tired and confused I had the keyboard plugged into the mouse port when moving the box to a workable location. The keyboard won't work connected to the mouse port.
I think the mobo is trying to work. I just need to get my ducks in a row with a properly prepared floppy and the keyboard plugged into the correct port.
    Questions:
Does the keyboard even need to be plugged in? After waiting 2 to 5 minutes the instructions say the BIOS will read from the floppy. This seems to be happening very inconsistently. Sometimes once in five or six tries.
Do I have to clear the CMOS on every try to recover? It seems the only way I can get the BIOS to read the floppy is to clear the CMOS first. That takes 15 to 30 minutes doesn't it?
When the splash screen comes up should I hit F1 or DEL? The splash screen is visible for about 15 seconds. That's not enough time to read an unfamiliar screen, make a decision and press the correct key. Experienced users might breeze though it. New users are who have arrived at this difficult point are usually bewildered, confused and angry. They need more time.
I'm still not sure I ever saw a proper and complete process of recovering a corrupt BIOS. I'll give it another shot tonight and report back later.

A little reading, suggested above, will bring you right up to speed on BIOS flashing. Meanwhile try continuously hitting the Insert key while booting your system to see if it will go into "Safe Defaults" and allow you to get into BIOS to reset options. the  "DEL" key should be the one you need to press to get into BIOS Setup screen.
Also recommend that you do not use liveupdate 3 for flashing your BIOS
    Good luck,

  • CQ61z-300 Blink Code - 2 blinks - Corrupt Bios

    Hi guys,
I'm getting a corrupt bios code on a Compaq  CQ61Z-300. We've tried removing the battery, holding down the power button for a minute, plugging it in and turning it on to no avail. We've also tried Windows key + b to reset it and no luck. I even removed the CMOS battery for a few minutes to no avail.
I'd like to avoid replacing the whole motherboard. Can anyone show me what the bios chip looks like, and where I can get a replacement? I feel comfortable soldering it in myself. Thanks!
EDIT: I 'think' i found the bios chip. Is it the one right by the CMOS battery with an MX on top of it? If so, will desoldering and resoldering this back into place work or do I need a completely new chip?

The saga continues. I have found on the internet (but not at any HP hosted site) that if you prepare a FAT16 thumb drive (format /fs:FAT e and copy onto it the BIOS file, (renamed, taking out the last 3 characters and changing the .fd  Like the following  procedure taken from a forum post:
I go the thing to start the beeping thing. It beeped 7 times, but never shut down, nor did it seem to fix the bios, same symptoms. I might be doing something wrong, would be nice if HP would document this procedure.
Note, I got the BIOS update from HP, which wasn packed into a sp.....exe, that I could get the .fd file by opening with winrar (or zip?). Or, install it on another machine and exiti out of the BIOS update program (DON't try to run it!!)
    1. Download the Bios version F.0C from
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv5-1095eo Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (Uni...
    2. Extract this file to a new folder.
    3. Rename the file 3602f0C.fd to 3603.fd
    4. Make 3 more copies of newly 3603.fd, and renamed them3603.bin, 3603.rom and the last was only 3603
    5. Copy all the four files on flash. The size of the flash should be as small as possible. Not more than 2 GB in my case.
    6. Remove the Battery, Power Plug and press start button for 30 seconds.
then bout your fingers on Windows and "B" and then press power button.
    7. Plug in the power cable. (If nothing happens then don't worry, you can just remove your finger from the power button and press that again because it takes some time to blink the lights on the laptop).
    8. After the fist beep, remove the fingers from windows+B, and listen the number of beeps, there were a lot . May be due to the number of files on the flash.
    9. After a long wait of 1 minute, it shuts down it self.
    10. Then restart the laptop. in a minute you will get the initial bios screen,
    asking for the settings.
    11. You can reset the the booting sequence if you like to. Otherwise no problem.
    12. What I did was that " I accepted the CMOS settings and restarted the laptop, and kept my pressing F11., for recovery and the my system was fully recovered.
That's it. It seems quite easy if you follow all the points by 0.0, raj85 and dannyres
But the difficult point to search for the Bios version and renaming it.
Again thanks to every one. Thanks Thanks.

  • Corrupted bios recovery

    Hi gang.
So I have this laptop here and it's giving me the two blinking lights with black screen.
It's two flashes so its corrupted bios. Now I know I can flash the bios using a USB stick but I need access to the Softpaq USB Uefi support enviroment which I can't find anywhere.
Does anybody have a link for this? Searched high and low in the product page and cant find any mention of this at all. I know its what I need.
    The lapotp is a DV5-1110EM

So bit of an update. I managed to get it working.
Couple of things (I'm not sure what the answer was but this is what I did) :
I found the UEFI install enviroment and installed.
The smallest stick I found was 4gb. Fat format (Full)
Downloaded BIOS and renamed accordingly. I also found a seperate tool that gave me another name to try.
Stuck files on the root of the stick.
Once this was done I plugged the stick in and held the Windows key + b then powered up the laptop.
It beeeped twice and the stick began to flash. It beeped another 3 times and then nothing else but I left it for about 10 minutes.
Came back to it and nothing so ruling it as a failure I powered down the laptop holding the power button and powered back up.
Suddenly HP splash screen! BIOS is back on and now back into windows.
So this was my story. May not be much help to people out there but this was how I got it to work.

  • Corrupt BIOS on Satellite L870-141

    Hello,
I have a Satellite L870-141 (PSKBLE). I have updated my BIOS recently to the latest version. (1.60).
Installation was succesfully completed and everything worked fine. After a week or so, the alt key got kind of stuck.
Rebooting the system did not help. Restoring to an earlier backup did not help.
After trying several things, I discovered a way to unlock the tab key. When the sticky keys function is enabled, I have to press the FN key first and than the F5 key. But when I reboot the system, the alt key is stuck again.
It is not a physical stuck alt key, because when I have 'unlocked' it, I can use all the keys again, including the alt keys.
When I access the bios by pressing F2, the bios opens, but I can not use a single key! I have to use the power button to exit the bios. Therefore, I think the bios is corrupt.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Or does anybody know how to downgrade the bios system? (I can not find an official earlier version of the bios)
Note: When I use the HWsetup program and activate the standard F1-F12 function, I can not 'unlock' the tab key anymore.

Problem is that Toshiba offers latest BIOS versions only so on Toshiba download page you will not be able to find earlier BIOS version.
What you can try is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They have access to BIOS database and can obtain older version for you.
I really dont know what is wrong there but you can try to use older BIOS version in hope everything will be OK.
Have you checked this forum to see if anyone else has reported about the same issue?

  • How do I fix corrupted BIOS? tx2500

My tx2500 gives the double LED flash that signals it has a corrupted BIOS.  According to this URL you can "restore BIOS from onboard backup (jumpers)."  If anybody has an idea what this means and how to fix my computer I would be very thankful.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Here are two possible methods to restore that BIOS:
    =====================================================================================
Option:  see if your system can Restore the BIOS:
Select your Notebook from this List of tx2500 Series
    Go to:
Solve a Problem > Memory (RAM) / Motherboards / BIOS > BIOS / UEFI > Restoring the BIOS
For example, if the HP Pavilion tx2500 CTO is your notebook, then this is your Page:  Restoring the BIOS
Option - Use the UEFI environment to Restore the BIOS
From a Complete shut down condition (all off),
    Press the power button and
Immediately tap the ESC key to get into the "Start Menu"
Select "F2" to start the HP Advanced Systems Diagnostics menu screen
    Select BIOS / Firmware Management
Option - Download the BIOS file from your notebook's own webpage -- Software and Downloads section
Extract the contents and put the files onto the root of a USB thumbdrive
Connect the thumbdrive to a USB 2.0 port on your system
    Connect the AC power adapter.
From a complete shut down condition (all off),
    Press the power button and
Immediately hold the Windows key while tapping on the "B" key
The BIOS update process should start
Follow the prompts to restore your BIOS, using the BIOS file on your thumbdrive

  • G72-B54nr corrupted bios blank screen

I got a g72 with possibly a corrupt bios.  I have already tried the elctro static discharge by removing battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds and then plugging in the ac power.  I have also tried disconnecting the cmos battery and reconnecting.  I hear there is a way to use the hp UEFI software to setup and ossibly restore the bios.  Is that possible for this model?  And how do I do it?

    Hello @radiskull ,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums! It's a pleasure talking to you again
I understand you are trying to fix the issue with your computer. Could you clarify what is happening so I know whether or not it is BIOS-related? Also, here is some information on restoring the BIOS.

  • Corrupt Bios- USB Flash?

    Hi,
thanks for your help in advance.
    My laptop is a: Presario CQ61 326sa
When I turn it on, it has two flashing lights; one above the numlock and the other to the side of the capslock. They flash twice. I have looked this up and seen it is a corrupt bios.
    Steps I have tried:
    1. Remove CMOS battery for extended period of time.
    2. Hold Windows+B when turning on. (NB I'm not sure I'm doing this right)- it turns on, turns off again, turns itself back on but the problem remains. Perhaps you could make clear if this is the exact right process?
    3. The last thing to try, as far as I'm aware, is to USB flash the BIOS. I would be grateful for a step-by-step guide to this. I have downloaded the file "sp48895.exe" from here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=&sw_lang=&product=403608...
However, I'm not sure what to do with it. It is in .exe format, which clearly isn't helpful as the computer isn't booting. If you could give me a step-by-step guide to flashing this laptop's bios by USB (i've found guides for other models, but they don't seem equivalent), I would be very grateful.
I understand that if this does not work, then the part would need to be replaced; this being uneconomic, I would get a new laptop. So I would appreciate any help you can offer so I can avoid this expense. Please let me know if any more information is required from me.
    Thanks very much in advance,
    George

Take a look at this document. It covers the process for restoring the BIOS using the Windows+B method as well as the USB drive method.

  • Corrupt bios

Ok my compaq presario cq61ended up screwing up on me it started out by doing the blink errors, It would blink once every 4 sec. hp said that was a cpu error meaning it wasn't funtional. so I ordered a new cpu for it. well now i just switched it out and now i'm getting 2 blinks and a blank screen meaning corrupt bios now what do i do ?????  I can't affored to send it in and now clueless on **bleep** to do next. I tried the hard reset. took out the battery unplugged held button for 60 sec's and nothing didnt do a dang thing.

it sounds like it might the original assumption about the cpu or some sort of general motherboard failure.
you could try removing the RAM and hard drive and see if it has any effect...if anything, it will help narrow down the problem
