Bridge Barch Rename
I would like to batch rename some RAW files and move them to another folder.
I have RAW and JPG files in the same folder.
I selected all the RAW files (without the JPG files), but the batch rename moves also the JPG files into the new folder. I don't understand why. I did not select the JPG files for batch renaming.
I tried this with my windows system and I have the same result.
It seems default behavior, personally I never shoot jpeg but just tried it
with my Eos 1D2 shoot Raw and Jpeg together and in Bridge selected only the
CR2 files using the filter panel and rename them. The jpeg went
simultaneously with same name but the .jpg extension in the dedicated new
folder.
But I can't see any disadvantage to it, the files are from the same image
that you shot in one time, only one is saved as raw and the other as a jpeg
converted version. It is somewhat like using the xmp as sidecar files, they
also get the same filename using batch rename without selecting them. Which
is important because you don't want to lose them from the originals they
belong to.
The workaround to have different names seems to first rename the jpeg files
and after this the raw files. But again personally, I don't see the plus
side of this workflow in an easy way...

Bridge CS5 Renames Files in HTML Web Gallery
When creating an HTML Web Gallery (using ‘Lightroom’ template), Bridge CS5 renames the thumbs and large images to an arbitrary number. The caption reads as the original file name, but the actual image has a new name. This is problematic, as my clients will right-click selected images from my galleries to save and forward for approval, but the file name is not the same as the original.
As an example: VLNK0321.jpg is renamed as _4856316150.jpg. (In Preferences/Output, the "Convert multi-byte file names to Full ASCII" is unchecked.)
Is there any way to fix this little (for me--BIG) problem?Solved!
This works for Windows. I imagine the Mac solution is similar. Props to William Zauscher for helping find an answer.
I take no responsibliity for any damage caused to your computer, Photoshop or Bridge...
In Windows, browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CS5 Extensions\Adobe Output Module\mediagallery\resources\scripts
In the file named "galleryCreator.jsxinc" replace the lines:
AOM.AmgGalleryCreator.createUniqueFileName = function(filePath, jpgFile, createMode)
var alteredName;
while (true)
alteredName = "_";
for (var i=0; i<10; i++)
alteredName += Math.floor(Math.random() * 10);
alteredName += ".jpg";
var f = new File(filePath + alteredName);
if (!f.exists)
break;
return alteredName;
...with the following:
AOM.AmgGalleryCreator.createUniqueFileName = function(filePath, jpgFile, createMode)
var alteredName;
while (true)
alteredName = "_";
alteredName += jpgFile += ".jpg";
var f = new File(filePath + alteredName);
if (!f.exists)
break;
return alteredName;
You can cut and paste the above. Just save a version of the original file somewhere in case of screwups...
Cheers!

Adobe Bridge Batch Rename Stopped Working
ive been using bridge exclusively to rename/
organize my files and today for some odd reason it just will not work. i select the files i wish to rename and then select batch rename and name/numer the files as ive always done before and when i click rename nothing happens at all. i cleared out my cache to no avail and im now officially stumped. any help is appreciated. thanks!Your problem does seem odd. Difficult to troubleshoot by remote, so run a few tests and see if you can narrow the problem down.
By any chance are you trying a batch re-name of files on an external drive? If so may be permissioning problem.
Do you have this problem in all folders or just one? If one there may be a contaminated file or name (i.e. flower.jpeg.jpeg)
To avoid fouling up your files copy a dozen or so and put in "test" folder then run these tests.
Can you do a simple rename of one file?
Can you do a batch rename of one file?
If the above is true can you do batch rename for all files in this folder?
If so does the extension make any difference - jpeg, psd, etc.? -
Issue with Adobe Bridge batch rename crashing
Hi, I have been trying to rename photo files in Adobe Bridge CC using the batch rename tool. I have just started using CC apps. All the updates are done. It crashes after doing just a few files. Started with 40 files at a time, crashed. Empty folder cache. Tried with 20 files, worked for a few times then crashed again. Tried 10 files and it crashed immediately. I found directions online (unfortunately it was for CS5, but I assume it's similar to CC). Any ideas on what to do differently? I really need to get these photos renamed and to a client tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any help.
CherylVideo card is updated, though I've been getting an error message on it.
I'm not sure what this should have to do with your batch rename problem. Your specs seem more then sufficient and batch renaming does only save the files you already have cached.
First check if you have enough free space left on your disk (at least 10 - 15 % free space is needed for good operation of your system and apps) and also try to reset preferences for Bridge by holding down contrl key while restarting Bridge. Check reset preferences from the pop up window and try again. -
Bridge Batch Rename Issues!!!
I'm having problems using "batch rename" in Bridge. I run two machines at work, on one the "rename in same folder" option is ALWAYS non-selectable. On my other machine I can select the option to save in same folder but when I "select all" and then batch rename Bridge automatically deselects some of the images and only renames those that are left selected. Needless to say this is pointless and I end up in Photo Mechanic.
My co-worker and I both have this issue, both run two computers. We're running OS 10.4.1 and CS3.
Anyone have a similar issue or even better a fix?!
Thanks,
-MatthewYou are better off with this .. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14404
Called R-name - its a small freeware application that I use all the time, quicker and less problematic than using Bridge. Been using it for years with no problems at all, works with drag and drop too. -
Bridge Photo Downloader File Rename convention
I use a custom file rename preset (YYMMDD + TEXT + FILE NUMBER SUFIX) in BR CC. This custom preset is not available in the Adobe Bridge CC Photo Downloader Reneame Files drop down menu. Neither is the custom preset formula availble in the advanced rename dialog.
I end up importing files with the Bridge Photo Downloader (Do not rename files) and then rename files using the Bridge Batch Rename saved preset.
Is there a way to add a custom file rename convention which is not availble in the Bridge Photo Downloader?
The idea is to rename files during the file ingestion process.Omke
Thanks for the idea. I tried that but it didn't work. The exact same problem happened again with what appears to be the same crash log: Thread 18 Crashing (see below for that specific section)
Additionally now in the last week I am experiencing Bridge crashing 1-3x/day regardless of the Photo Downloader.
Adobe, please advise.
Thanks

Bulk Renaming Problem in Adobe Bridge
Hi
I have an inconvenient problem in bulk renaming files in Adobe Bridge CS3.
An original file name for example looks like: DSC_5521
I wish to keep the "5521" part in my bulk renaming process so it may look for example like "Landscape5521" but loose the "DSC_" bit of the original file name.
Bulk renaming appears to let me keep all the original file name or none of it. In which case I have to manually knock out the "DSC_" part of each renamed file.
Any suggestions or ideas would be gratefully received!
Many thanks
CarlCarl,
While Bridge's renaming abilities is adequate in some post-production digital workflows it fails in the industrial grade categories.
For a simple no fuss approach I have for many years now used free-ware software. If you look around on the Internet you should be able to find a renaming program that will suit your needs. Most of them are small and unobtrusive in their use and computer requirements. Myself I am quite satisfied with Smart Rename 1.0 by ZByteSoft.Com.
I regularly rename, and apply or change date stamps, for up to 4,000 files at a time. I am also able to apply system attributes to the selected files as I desire.
While such programs may not give you exactly what you wish they should come close. It may require that you slightly change your digital workflow and in that regard you may find that one little application that suits your needs to a tee.

Batch rename through bridge ... loses xmp?
okay - I blew it. Some of my files were imported into LR4 with an incorrect filename ... per my naming habits.
I edited everything ... (without renaming) and then went into Brdige to do a batch rename. I presume that Bridge did not rename the .xmp files and I have to edit them all over again ... right?
Please tell me there's a work around

please forgive me being dense, but I want to get it right. I appreciate your patience.
No problem.

Right now, I have the missing files (paths) in LR. I also have the files reimported into LR with a new name.
Remove (from the catalog) the files re-imported with the new name.

So, I'm going to go back to Bridge and rename the files (that currently have new names) back to what they were.
Yes - good.
bgshap wrote:
Then ... I'm not going to reimport them again (that'll defeat the purpose)
Right again.
bgshap wrote:
But, when I go into LR and click on a file that LR thinks is offline or missing, what then?
If you rename the back to what they were they won't be missing anymore in Lightroom.
THEN what you'll want to do is rename them IN Lightroom, i.e. using Lightroom's renaming capability instead of Bridge. Or, some would suggest not bothering to rename and use metadata exclusively for organization - I personally think disk folder and file names are also important, but as I said - some could care less since they only use Lr to deal with them anyway and always by way of their metadata instead of folder/filenames.
(if Lr's renaming capability is not strong enough, there is some plugin-assisted renaming possibilities, but now we're getting too far ahead).

File a bug report. It makes web galleries useless for me.

Renaming question in Bridge CS3
When renaming, Bridge automaticaly renames a tif and jpg of the same name, the new name. For example, if a tif and jpg of the same photo are named 1.tif, and 1.jpg, and I batch rename these 2.xxx, both files will be renamed the same 2.xxx. Which is great. But I want to throw the original CR2 Raw file in the mix. So there will be three files of the same photo in the folder. I want to rename all three files of the same photo the same file name, not counting the extention of course.
How in the world do I do this, or can it be done at all?
Thanks for any help.I think I understand. You're renaming your files and the name includes consecutive sequence numbers? And you want the GIF, JPG, and PNG (for example) of a particular image to all have the same sequence number in the name? (frog1.gif frog1.jpg frog1.png)...where all three files are otherwise identical photos of the same frog.
If the above is true, you are correct, Bridge will rename/renumber the files consecutively with each GIF, JPG and PNG getting a different number. That's a tough nut to crack without doing one of two things:
1) Rename all of the GIFs, then rename all of the PNGs (resetting the number in the Rename Files dialog back to "1" each time), etc.
1.1) This will work great if there are GIF JPG PNG (for example) of every image. The nut gets harder to crack if sometimes an image is just a JPG w/o corresponding GIF and PNG (for example).
2) A second choice is to write a script. -
Hi,
Well I've never posted in the Bridge forum, but here goes!
I work on a publication in which I have a long series of PDFs with the following names:
p-1.pdf
p-2.pdf
p-3.pdf
etc.
I won't go into the details of why they're named like this, but I use Bridge to rename them into the following format (required by my printer):
001PubName.pdf
002PubName.pdf
003PubName.pdf
etc.
The problem that I have is that if I have a long series of files (p-1 through p-200 for example), the Batch Rename process will only capture some of them. It might do the first half (p-1 through p-100), and those will be renamed with the correct number. Then, suddenly a few more pages will be named with something like p-565 (or other wrong number), then the last set will be left in their original p- names.
What I'm trying to find out is how Bridge renames these. Meaning, what does it look for to choose the rename process? Usually if I do these in batches of no more than 50, it will rename them correctly (meaning the new numbered name will match the previous file number (p-25.pdf becomes 025PubName.pdf for example). But if I do a longer list, a lot of them will be messed up.
I eventually have to enlarge the thumbnails to their maximum size and compare the file name with the page numbers on every page (though that's still faster than manually renaming all the files).
Any ideas? Or suggestions on doing this?
Thanks, Phyllisphyllisj9 wrote:
Their download link is broken, but I'll see if I can find it on another site.
So it is!
I just googled "the rename" and picked cnet because they are well known.
You've probably found it by now. -
Suddenly I cannot rename or even delete RAW files downloaded from the camera card. I have checked and have the latest versions of Bridge and Photoshop CS6. I am running Windows 7 in 64 bit. I have no problem opening the files through ACR. If I look in Windows>Computer and alter the files names manually even by a adding one letter, I can then do all the normal things in Bridge - Batch Rename, Delete etc. This is a real pain as I can shoot several hundred images in a day and I don't want to change each one manually in Windows. Can someone help please?
I always use a card reader. The Lumix uses SDHC cards and I have tried two cards with the same result. My Nikon uses CF cards and I have downloaded successfully through a different slot in the same card reader. I don’t have a second card reader for SDHC cards. However, I have now discovered another twist to the situation.
I download a file but cannot delete or rename in the same folder. I can rename to a different folder but still cannot delete or rename in the same folder. I go into Windows>Computer and rename by adding another letter to the file name. Now I have full control of the file in Bridge. HOWEVER, if I rename back to the original name in Bridge I am back to the beginning again. I cannot delete or rename in the same folder. It seems like it is the name that locks it. This is not just the original file name from the camera, it also applies to the new name when Bridge has renamed it to another folder. -
Batch file renaming w bridge or ps
Anyone know if I can use bridge or ps to batch rename photos to date and time they there taken?
Maybe using a script and meta data?
(raw or other file types)Bridge batch rename has this capability. In batch rename panel New Filenames select Date Time, Date Created, then desired date and time formats. You'll need to specify two New Filenames lines - one for date, another for time. Batch rename will preview one new filename in the Preview area at the bottom of its dialog box, and you can click the Preview button to see how all the selected files will be renamed

Batch rename, name changes after frame 99
Hi, I put a folder into bridge to do a batch rename and called the text MILAN/SYRIA and gave for first number 00.
After frame 99 the name changed to a weird Adobe Bridge Batch Rename Temp 10037
Which you can see better in the RAW windows, the 99 and the following one.
Photoshop doesn't like to open a name like that, can't blame her.
of course I strongly suppose that I should have given 3 digits in Batch rename, and l am looking for your confirmation, and while I am here
why was my card full at 0485 pictures when a folder I think takes as many as 9999, how do you finish a folder if your card is full?
i suppose you change card and you keep going with the same folder? Sorry about the camera question, couldn't keep it, thanks donano,no, i started with 00 two digits only, batch rename changed to 623 after i put the folder back in just in order to take the screenshot, i dont know why but that always happens if i put the folder back in after usage, but i do know for life now that if I am going to take over 100 shots, which is most of the time, i should start with 001 or 000.
See, this is the first number that was given to the first file, 01,WHICH actually became 00, i don't have it here.
So it rest to know where is "Preserve file name " in current metadata, and would that make it possible to revert to the original CR2 number?
Why not to change name straight from the new name? thanks
