Broad band router and upgrade

I have been with Bt for many years and I asked for a free up grade I am on Unltd b/band package and have had the router hub 3 for the last 4 years + and not sure why the will not upgrade me for free
I have stared to look round for asimmlar pacage and will need to look as money is not easy comming these days and with all the showing of Jan sales ?

If there is nothing wrong with your present homehub and it is doing everything you want it to do without problems I would be wary of upgrading. Have a look through the forums for problems with the homehub 4 & 5.
The only real "advantage" with the HH4 and 5 is they use AC technology and are dualband.
There is no point in going for a HH5 if you do not have Infinity. The HH4 does the same job but does not have the built in VDSL modem which the HH5 has for Infinity use.
If you re-contract you will probably be offered a HH4 for the cost of postage but if you don't re-contract they will only sell you one and in my opinion you could probably get a better third party router cheaper.

  • I have recently installed a WRT54G V8 Broad Band Router....

I have recently installed a WRT54G V8 Broad Band Router. It is supposed to have WPA2 security, however "My Network Settings" shows the security mode to be WPA. Firmware version is 8.00.2. Any suggestions on getting the WPA2 security mode would be appreciated.

Also, you may need updates on the PC side in order to use WPA2 encryption.  The two links are to a strong password generator and WPA2 setup instructions (links to patches included).

  • Linksys Router Wireless-G 2.4 GHz Broad Band router..Wont let it connect to the internet.

Okay so i got a router for my PSP and it connects good on the psp well. Its just that when its fully connected, The internet connection on the PC that the router is connected to, wont connect. Anyway i can fix this?
Message Edited by TheLastShadow on 01-27-200702:00 PM

hi...ideally , the PSP getting connected to the internet should not affect the desktop to lose the internet connection..
what u can do is ... access the router using http://192.168.1.1 .. keep the username blank and password as "admin" .. if u changed the password during the installation , u need to type that password ...
once on the ui...go to status tab and check the firmware version...
now, go to www.linksys.com/download and select the router model and version no. and check the latest firmware on it.. if the router is not having the latest firmware , upgrade it first..then reset the router and reconfigure it ...

  • Wireless-G Broad band Router Model wrt54g

Just bought a new lap top.  I already have to computers at home that I have connected via the wireless router. Have been setup and working fine for years.  Was told all I had to do was connect my laptop to the same network.  Tried and it finds the linksyshome network but then asks me for a password or security phrase which I have no idea what it is.  I tried using admin and it connects to the network but states I do not have inernet access with this connect because of security phrase.  Is there anyway I can reset my security phrase to something I remember?  Please answer in laymans terms because I dont understand alot about this whole process.

You must get into the settings of the router. If you have not set up a password for the router you can get into it by using the default password. First connect to the router with a wire. Once wired to the router then type in 192.168.1.1 into your web browser and it will prompt you for a user name and password. The default is blank for the username and admin for the password. Once in the web browser go to the wireless tab and security and setup the passphrase. Once you install the passphrase you can then logon to you network.
If you are unable to get into your router with the default password and you cant remember the password you put in at setup, then you can push the reset button for 30 seconds on the back of the router. Reboot, and this will restore everything to default. You will then have to repeat steps above and reset security, ssid and mac filtering.

  • Cisco Wireless - N E2500 Dual Band Router and Hide SSID

    Hi,
I have tried to hide my SSID by dis-enabling The SSID broadcasts of first one then the other band.
Once I dis-enabled the SSID broadcast of the last band my laptop, which has the wireless card, would lose connection to the internet on reboot.
I have read somewhere but now cannot find the article, that one can hide ones SSID but that it requires some work to connect to a network that is no longer broadcasting.
Anyone have knowledge on how to go about this or maybe they could point me to a resource that discusses how to set this up....thanks.

Thanks Exotic Fish ... Do you no anything about the Dual Band.
I understand that we can only use one band at a time ... that is great ....so I have the 2.4Ghz connecting automatically.
When does the 5Ghz kick in ... if it does ... or do you have to manually connect to it?
    Thanks.

  • Broad Band /Speeds and contacts??

Hi Newby poster here first time. I appear to have spoken to every nationallity and country in the the universe over the last month with regards to me chasing up a speed fault with my deal with BT, I think I have finally got in touch with "their Expert's" in Exeter and english spoken they appear to be a service to BT only looking at speeds, and know nothing about any exchange problems that may exist, when I asked why Open reach were at the exchange in force ( 3 vans) they had no Idea, I came across this youtube vid still denighed any fault, we have had an artical two weeks running in the local rag and an report on BBC scotland national news last week, but still no fault??    speed tests  vary from 1.4 Mbps to 7.89 Mbps  now settled down to some 6.1 Mbps and still checking but denigh any fault???

I know they have a fault, the engineers know they have a fault, all the people in the exchange area know that they have a fault, surely you do not have to have a complete detailed summery of all the comunications between BT and myself with regards to this fault, I am not asking for the fault to be repaired with luck this has been done with the work that has been carried out at the said exchange, all I asked was HOW DOES A CUSTOMER CONVINCE BT THERE IS A FAULT??? if this is too difficult then I must be at the wrong Fourm,

  • Novatel u720 sprint broad band card

Hi I bought a u720 broad band card by sprint . I tried but cant get it to work with my mac book pro.I need help to get to broad band.

The EVDO forums is quite helpful in this area. The company that supports these forums sells the cards (including the Novatel u720 sprint broad band card) and supports them for Mac. They will sell you the card and Sprint service ($60/month), activate the card and send it to yo with mac drivers ready to go.
Seems like a much better deal than no support from Sprint.

  • Extend an AE dual-band router with a 2nd AE dbr: will automatic mode work?

I have a new Apple Extreme dual-band router, and it works just great. My N devices all get the maximum bandwidth, and the G devices connect easily as well. I have a section of my house that gets weak reception, and want to extend the network with a second router.
If I bought a second Apple Extreme dual-band router, and configured it to Extend Wireless Network and Allow Wireless Clients, could I then leave it on the default radio mode of Automatic? It seems like either router would then be able to tell if the wireless clients were N or G, but communication between the routers would be N. I want to keep the maximum bandwidth for my N devices.
    Thanks in advance

  • Dual band router will fix interferences right?

So i got really bad download problems, and i think i narrowed it down to interference problems.
Probably baby phones or a wireless 2.4ghz phone from my new neighbours.
So if i get the WRT320N-EW Dual Band router and put it on 5.2ghz this should fix it right?
    Thanks in advance.

Home wireless networks based on the 802.11b or 802.11g standards transmit their signal in a narrow radio frequency range of 2.4 GHz. Various other electronic devices in a home, such as cordless phones, garage door openers, baby monitors, and microwave ovens, may use this same frequency range. Any such device can interfere with a Wi-Fi home network, slowing down its performance and potentially breaking network connections.
One benefit of the 5GHz 802.11a WLAN devices is that they are not vulnerable to interference from other devices, because the 5GHz frequency range they utilize is not used by any other devices (at least for now).
On the down side, because of the type of modulation 5GHz wireless devices employ, their signals are more prone to be reflected and/or absorbed by materials in the home. This can have the same practical effect as active interference; that is, to weaken the signal, and reduce range and speed.

  • Tried to drag a progam to the trash but each time I did a window pops up and say that i cant moved it to the trash as the application is open.. the program i wish to uninstal is a pre-paid mobile broad band a

I tried to drag the program i wanted to uninstal to the trash but each time i try a window pops up and tells me i cant as the application is open and i know it,s not??? the program i want to uninstal is a pre paid mobile broad band,  thank you Marie
I have tried going to the  program it self but no where can i find how to uninstal it . I,m getting very frustrated with  this C.P  as at least  with windows you went straight to the control panel and went to ADD/Remove, and clicked onto the program you wanted gone and clicked on it and it uninstaled . GRRR

I assume that the app didn't come with an uninstaller application/script?
If you definitely want to trash it have a look in Activity Monitor and your Login items, as there may be something running in the background that is preventing it being trashed.
System Preferences>Users & Groups (or Accounts depending on OS), Login items tab and delete anything that pertains to the app you want gone.
Next, Utilities Folder>Activity Monitor, have a look to see if there is anything running with the name of the awkward app. Select it and click on the the big red 'quit process' button. Now try and trash it.
If you are still having trouble you could try downloading the free AppCleaner:

  • Question on router connecting extender with auto config and upgrading firmware

Hello I have a question regarding my linsys 160n and my wre54g extender. I am going to reset my linsys 160n with dd-wrt on it to the factory defaults, then set it up but leaving the security disabled to then setup my linsys wre54g extender since it has the auto configuration option. Once i have this completed would i be able to then enable the security on the router and the extender?
Also, just noticed that when i flashed the firmware from original to the dd-wrt i did not reset the router or reset to defaults before i upgraded the firmware to dd-wrt. Will this have issues for me? I thought i read you are supposed to reset or set to factory defaults before flashing firmware to dd-wrt

The best way to configure your WRE with your Routers Secured Wireless Network... Once you secured your Wireless Network on your Router..... Connect the WRE to the Router using an Ethernet Cable.
Hardwired anyone of your computer to the Router.... Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Once you login to the WRE setup page, you need to match the Wireless Settings which you have input on your Router... Once you configure all the settings on WRE... then unplug the Ethernet Cable from WRE and then unplug the Power from WRE.... Wait for 30sec and then re-connect the Power to WRE. One both the Lights are Blue on WRE, these means your WRE is configured properly and ready to use.

  • Kindly Is the Linksys E4200 Dual Band Router compatible with DHCP and VPN ?

    Kindly
Is the Linksys E4200 Dual Band Router compatible with DHCP and VPN?
    Thanks,

Linksys/Cisco E4200 are compatible with DHCP. Second, these Wireless-N routers are only capable of enabling the VPN traffic to pass through the device.  You will need a VPN router and software to create the actual network to connect with your VPN client.

  • Wireless Expander WRE54G and Dual Band router WRT610N

I used to have a band G-type network with a Linksys Router and a Wireless Expander WRE54G. It worked fine.
Now I have a WRT610 N Dual Band router. I am trying to connect the WRE54G to the netowrk (using the G-band of course) but it doesn't work. Runnig the Setup utility from the CD (og the Range Expander) ends in a "Site survey" which terminates with an error "Site survey fail". Maybe the installation program is not able to handle the WRT610N.
    Any suggestions?

Press and hold the reset button on WRE for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Expander, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...
Connect your Expander to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...
Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240. Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...It should open your Expander set-up...
Once you get to the set-up page, change the Expander Settings...While changing the Expander settings you have to make sure that the Wireless Settings(SSID/Network Name and WEP/WPA Key) are identical on both the devices(Router and Expander)...Also make sure to change the Expander's default IP to match your network and Gateway Address should be your Router's address...ex.Expander's IP Address : 192.168.1.240(assuming your router's default IP Address is 192.168.1.1),Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1...
After configuring the Expander you should disconnect it from the Computer and go into Local Area Connection TCP/IP Properties and set it back to Obtain IP Address Automatically...Disconnect the Expander from the computer and power cycle both the devices(Expander and Router) ...Your Expander should be configured...

  • BT broad band and Phone line

Over the last few weeks I have had massive problems with noise issues on the phone at the same time my broadband  keeps timing out.
I phoned BT who asked me to speak up over the phone because of the noise, they then checked the line and told me nothing wrong it must be your phone. So I bought a brand new phone and then tried again same again you have a hissing noise and I can hear faint noise of people speaking, then a loud click and the phone line goes dead.
At the same time as this my broadband keep taking ages to connect to anything it just goes on and on and on before telling me it's timed out, this is a long going issue, a few weeks ago it was suggested I try a cheaper method of broadband because it may be better, I agreed so long as it worked better, I lost all contact and could not get on to any site.
I contacted BT who told me today a line check it always came back OK.
Then I was told to take the front of the box off at the phone connection to look if the wires were connected I refused so they said you must have a bad phone so I bought another one, second one, still same problem.
I phoned BT 150 to get through to India who complained they could not hear me through the noise twice then I get cut off. After I phoned again they came up with another great idea I buy another phone.
I now started to lose my temper and asked to be put through so I could close my account while speaking to this nice lady who tried to help my phones line goes dead, phone up again get through to somebody else who says he will look into this, bang the line goes dead. I get a phone call saying they have looked at the line nothing wrong with it and he says he cannot hear any issues with the line. At the same time my Broad band starts to work.
So I get told they will phone me back to see if my line is fixed after three weeks of a nightmare with my phone and my broad band I'm tired to say the least, worse I do not like being made to look like a fool.
If there is issues with the line I expect people to say OK we will look at it fix it, not you may have to pay £99 to have an engineer look at it.
Being disabled my phone is my life line so is my broadband.

hi checking the phone in the test socket will eliminate any internal wiring problems and if the noise is still there then you would not be charged for the call out also closing your account would not solve the noise problem as it will follow you to any other provider
