BT broad band and Phone line

Over the last few weeks I have had massive problems with noise issues on the phone at the same time my broadband  keeps timing out.
I phoned BT who asked me to speak up over the phone because of the noise, they then checked the line and told me nothing wrong it must be your phone. So I bought a brand new phone and then tried again same again you have a hissing noise and I can hear faint noise of people speaking, then a loud click and the phone line goes dead.
At the same time as this my broadband keep taking ages to connect to anything it just goes on and on and on before telling me it's timed out, this is a long going issue, a few weeks ago it was suggested I try a cheaper method of broadband because it may be better, I agreed so long as it worked better, I lost all contact and could not get on to any site.
I contacted BT who told me today a line check it always came back OK.
Then I was told to take the front of the box off at the phone connection to look if the wires were connected I refused so they said you must have a bad phone so I bought another one, second one, still same problem.
I phoned BT 150 to get through to India who complained they could not hear me through the noise twice then I get cut off. After I phoned again they came up with another great idea I buy another phone.
I now started to lose my temper and asked to be put through so I could close my account while speaking to this nice lady who tried to help my phones line goes dead, phone up again get through to somebody else who says he will look into this, bang the line goes dead. I get a phone call saying they have looked at the line nothing wrong with it and he says he cannot hear any issues with the line. At the same time my Broad band starts to work.
So I get told they will phone me back to see if my line is fixed after three weeks of a nightmare with my phone and my broad band I'm tired to say the least, worse I do not like being made to look like a fool.
If there is issues with the line I expect people to say OK we will look at it fix it, not you may have to pay £99 to have an engineer look at it.
Being disabled my phone is my life line so is my broadband.

hi checking the phone in the test socket will eliminate any internal wiring problems and if the noise is still there then you would not be charged for the call out also closing your account would not solve the noise problem as it will follow you to any other provider

  • Sky Search and Phone Line

Hi looking for a bit of help and advice please My mum has a sky plus hs box which is now getting on in years and recently it has started playing up a bit ie it keeps freezing up, the search facility is unavailable on the epg and shows we have on series link don't always record each week etc etc. The other thing is we don't have e phone line connected as when it is connected it causes a lot of interference on the phone line. I have tried different filters and splitters etc etc but to no avail. Would the fact I don't have the phone line connected be the reason why I am having the above problems? Thanks Damian

The phone line not being connected will cause none of the issues above.

  • Prism tv and phone lines

We recently had prism tv installed. I asked the tech if the phone lines would be ran through the prism as our phone lines went out three times during the install. He said no they ran separately. As it turns out, my suspicions were valid. My phone lines are echoing now and sometimes squeal. When the power goes out, so do our phone lines. Any way to disconnect the two? Or do we need to cancel prism tv.

Prism tv is Century Link, not Verzion Fios................

  • Please Help!!! I have a delema about my new 3gs and phone lines! ANYONE plz

I just recieved my new iphone 3gs that I got thanks to my step dads upgrade, I now have a problem because I am trying to use it for my number but when I get to itunes to ativate it shows my step dads number. Please tell me how I can get around this. I tried putting my old sim in, I tried calling att and they said they would take care of the number situation but they did nothing about the number showing up wrong in itunes. Thanks

Same issue. I upgraded my daughter's phone, prior to ATT's announcement of its modified upgrade policy, thinking this well could happen but figuring, what the heck. I am not sure there is a way "around" this, since AT&T are entitled to make sure the terms of their purchase plan are respected, but if anyone has a way, would love to know it. Otherwise, I'll just wait a few days for the next one to show up.

  • Pre2 horrible echo and phone line drop

Having the new Palm Pre2 for about 2 weeks now and face 2 problems:
    1. the remote side it getting a horrible echo. Mainly when the headset is connected, but less when using the plain phone
    2. The phoneline drops after a few minutes. ( Yes also when the battery is charged).
    Anyone facing the same problem?
    /Gerrit
Post relates to: Pre 2 p102ueu (Unlocked EU)

I have exactly the same issue. Used several wired headsets, the all give a echo on the other side.
Tested yesterday with bluetooth headset. That seems somewhat better, but is off course a real battery drain.
Would be great if they could fix this fast!

  • HOW DOES ONE HAVE B.T. BROAD BAND & TELEPHONE !!

My argument starts with b.t. Broadband and phone, question how does one have broad band and phone if you have never ordered it in the first place, No modem means No broadband,No engineer,No Activation codes , No one has visited my home so No installation is this true !!. Yes I think so, can some one put my brain to rest.
Right I will start from the beginning back in November 2010 I called b.t. Sales and made an enquiry about getting broadband and a telephone package installed,so then this guy in sales said i would have to set a D/D up and he would have to do a credit check on me,but i told him their was a problem ,as i did not have enough money in my bank account to set another D/D up,he then informed me he would keep the enquiry active for seven days, after this time the enquiry would be scrapped,so i never thought anymore about it,then 2 months later b.t. have started billing me, the first bill was for £130.44 the next bill was for £223.31 & to cap all that they have now instructed a debt collection company to collect £365.98 within 7 days or else,i also asked b.t. what date did & time the instalation engineer had called to my home, and the date  the package with the modem was delivered ,because you have to sign for this item i was told by the royal mail.
Then this Saturday 25/6/2011 a woman from b.t.residential telephoned me to apologise and the matter was now closed, and they were sorry for setting this account up in the first place, next thing the same woman rang me back one hour later and said b.t. would be pursuing this matter and i should contact the debt collection ageny, i refused to pay and told her to take me to court, she also said that their were notes attached to the file and a recording made of my conversation with b.t.and me ,i asked for a copy but she asked for £10. 99 plus vat to which i refused and that stated that i had placed and order for b.t. broadband,i then said i will be seeking advice from a solicitor and would see them in court.
Regards Jim  please comment on this matter and if anybody can advise me on this matter.

    WOW what a disater Jim,
This is totally not your fault at all, what i would recommend is for you to contact one of the mods on this forum which you can do here http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
The next thing for you to do is collate all your evidence and contact ofcom. You called BT to enqire and not take up the order so therefore ask BT to provide you with a list of account of when you called them, you have a legal right under the data protection act etc to access your data however you may have to pay a fee of £2 to £10 for your records.  Also ask for a copy of the voice recordings and or transcripts too because all calls are recorded and monitored for training purposes right!
In any complaint, make sure you can remember the dates and times of call and also names, who did you speak to today??
i hope this helps, the mods will help too!

  • Out of contract for phone line and broadband

    Hello all!
After receiving a really rather large quarterly bill i thought i would see how much time we had left on the phone line and broadband contracts. Quite astounded to find that BB finished in August last year and phone line in October. I thought we were all in contracts of some sort or another?
In this position then, might i be able to negotiate some sort of deal on a new contract?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Kim x

    Go to Solution.

by rolling I mean month by month but important it is on standard terms and any previous discounts terminate with the contract so better to renegotiate a new cheaper deal asap if staying with BT - should only be 12month contract not 18month like new customers

  • Your broad band will be on on the 21st Lies!!!

    Hi
I was with sky broad band and decided to move over to BT, sent Mach code to BT over three weeks ago.
We were sent two emails about when our broad band would be switched on, which should have been the Monday21st of Oct
SO we waited on Monday for the blue light to come on as we were told it could be any time up to midnight that it would come on, NOTHING!!!!
So on Tuesday  the 22nd of Oct in the morning I phoned and asked why it had not been turned on, only to be told sorry your broad band is not due to be turned on until the 29th of Oct !.
So if my start date was always going to be the 29th I would not have told Sky to turn our broadband off on Sunday the 20th of Oct!
Then the person told me that I could get on line using BT Fon?  and she gave me a password and code to get on to it, the only thing is I live in a very small Hamlet that does not have this!
Told the person on the phone that we were meant to be on Monday the 21st and not the 29th, so why the hell did we get two emails and a phone text message confirming the 21st as our start date.
Then I was told that they had tried to switch it on and it had fell down at the exchange and they were having a problem with it, funny as my broad band with sky was working absolutely fine on the 20th of Oct
Went round and round in circles trying to get the person to understand that we were meant to be on line on the 21st and not the 29th as she kept saying , in the end I asked to speak to her supervisor as I was getting nowhere with her.
So after a long wait I did speck to the supervisor and explained that our contract should have started on the 21st of Oct and not the 29th.
The supervisor said that she would expedite the broad band and it would be on by 22rd of Oct, so on the 22nd Oct, and still NO broad band.
So phoned again on the 23rd  of Oct and again went round and round in circles, constantly being told the 29th of Oct was our start date, again I asked to speak to a supervisor.
This time we were told that our broad band would be on by the 23rd of Oct and would be up and running by midnight, midnight came and went and still no broad band.
Again I phoned on the 24th of Oct and again ended up being told our broad band would be on the 29th of Oct, had to go through the same thing again telling her that we were meant to be on the 21st and not the 29th as she kept saying, in the end I asked to speak to a supervisor, and explained it all over again to her, and this time I was told that it would be on 100% guaranteed that day.
If it was not on by early evening I was to phone back and was given a new number to ring, 7.45pm still no blue light, so I phoned them back and was again told the 29th, no sorry that’s wrong your email says the 21st not the 29th, round and round we went again, so I asked again to speak to her supervisor, This time I was cut off!
Phoned back only to get an automated message saying all our lines are closed, please call back between 8am and 8pm.
Coming back to BT has a frustrating, disappointing, waste of my time, if I know it would have been like this I would have NEVER come back to BT at all, it has now got to the point that I will cancel my contract with them as they have not kept there part of the contract ,they have until the 25th to sort this out, otherwise its bye BT, and yes I will be billing them for the 42 mile round trip I am having to  to use an internet café each day and for the cost of my time as well !
So to sum it up rubbish’s service, nothing but broken promises!
    Darren Rees

    UPDATE
Phoned again on the 25th of Oct to be told this one ,that the BT broad band team had tried to set it up on Monday the 21st ,but could not as they did not have the right phone number!.
So why have the continually kept repeating that it would start on the 29th, when they had tried to set it up on the 21st , more lies.
Then told yes your broad band would be on 100% guarantee that it will be on the 25th with out fail, and guess what happened on the 25th ,NO BROAD BAND!!!!, Lies .
So phoned up only to be told again that it would be on the 29th!No I am not happy with this at all I told them,Our start date is the 21st not the 29th.
Told the lady on the phone I want it turned on today not the 29th, only to be told sorry the broad band team can not do it to day as it is friday!.
I have been told so many lies by them, that the exchange was not working in my area and had a fault, that can not be true as my next door neighbour  is with BT and his broad band is working fine, that your contract dose not start until the 29th.
There is a problem with your phone line, funny I am talking to you on the phone and this is working fine, another lie.
I guarantee 100% it will be on today, another lie
The broad band team did not have the right phone number,if they did not have the right phone number, so why has it taken them all week to sort this out, considering I phoned on the 21st about it and was told they had spoken to the broad band team on that day about it,another lie!.
Your broad band was never going to start on the 21st , but was set up for the 29th , I have a copy of the contract stating  the start date is the 21st, yet more lies.
    LIES,LIES and more LIES.
I bet the minute I fall to pay my bill they will be super efficient at cutting me off!
Totally feed up now and have given them an dead line that if my broad band is not on by Monday the 28th I will cancel the contract and never come back to BT as long as I live.

  • Please help, noisy phone line think its a high res...

    HI,
Just moved in and phone line / bt broadband was activated a week ago.  Phone master socket is OpenReach branded.
I have the BT supplied broadband filter fitted directly to the test socket (just the adsl router and a single phone connected).
Using the 17070 quiet line test , i have varying volumes on hissing and noise on the phone. This varies between loud and intrusive (difficult to hear callers) to fairly quiet.  This seemed to be better during the cold weather over last weekend, but is worse again this morning.
I can also hear adsl connection noise when the router was connecting, depsite being through the adsl filters. This lead me to find threads related to High resistance faults whcih I think may apply to me.
BT online fault test shows no fault found.

The home hub doesn't seem too good at keeping the sync, speed drops regularly and it maintains a high SNR.
My previous router was a Thomson Speedtouch 780, which provides a higher sync and much better stability. Presumably this is due to the broadcom chipset (would a home hub 3b also be better?)

As your can see theres a wide range in the SNR figures, although the speedtouch is much better at holding the sync and not dropping the speed.
Given the line attenuation at 31db, I would have expected a higher sync rate. The estimated line length of ~2.2km from kitz.co.uk seems to be about right.
Any advice appreciated, including how to report this fault to the right people.
    Thanks
    Jon

I'm suspecting that I will be getting billed for the last engineer visit ( as he couldn't find a fault and therefore said it must be my equipment). I can't afford to pay one fee let alone 2 if I report it again with the same result.
However since the visit, the occurrences of the intermittent noise on the line have been fewer and further between. This morning however, after listening to a 1571 message I heard more noise so I did a quiet line test to see. Initially the line was quiet, but then I heard some quit noise and then a ringing sound (like when you dial a number and it rings remotely) as if I had made a call. The "BT Quiet line message" cut in but I could still here the ringing underneath. I waited to see if I would be able to hear if someone answered but the ringing stopped after a while and I couldn't here a voice so I don't know if they answered or it rung off.
Is it possible my line is picking up the ring tone from another line?
Also, when the engineer arrived he initially said his test had shown a fault and that water must have got in somewhere. However when he removed my filter/phone/router from the test socket, his tests then showed no fault. Is it possible the fault only shows up when the adsl is active.  Back when the line was first active I could the router negotiating (even thorough 2 filters) although this doesn't happen now.
Moving on to the adsl side of things, Currently my stats are:

With the BT Home hub (3a) the connection would drop peridocally, so I'm using my Thomson 780wl which hold the connection better and also shows less FEC errors than the HH.
I think the connection speed and the interlacing are poor given the line attenuation. The line length is about 2 - 2.5km,  underground from the village to the exchange, overground to the house. No cabinets directly connected to exchange.
I've been monitoring signal to noise ratio and have noticed something odd:
This happens every day, in the same pattern.  Its not interference from any internal wiring or appliances or heating etc. I understand that noise changes over time but this is a 5+ DB drop is this normal?
    Any advice?

  • [Q]Problem with Bluetooth connection between Xiaomi Mi Band and Lenovo P780.

    Hello,
I bought Mi Band to my Lenovo P780 and I have connection problem. I have paired both devices and everything works well but 10-20 times a day connection is lost. And after I open Mi Fit, app try to connect with phone and do a sync but it can't (long time: "Connecting... Getting info from your band" and after: "Couldn't connect, pull down to retry."). Only after turning Bluetooth off/on app can connect to phone and do syncing. This is very annoying. Always after night the connection between Mi Band and phone is broken. What can I do about this problem? I need have a real-time notifications on Mi Band so I need have stable connection between phone and band all the time.
I have Lenovo P780 on 4.4.3 and Xiaomi Mi Band on firmware 1.0.9.0 + Tweaked Mi Fit with notify 1.2.922. But I tried also previous versions of Mi Fit - always the same result. And I tried on Nexus5 rom final, official Lenovo KK rom vibe, Alice Project 7.5 and Alice Project 8.0 roms - always the same result.
I tried on 2 other phones and bracelete isn’t broken. Everything is ok – stable connection.
Problem is in Lenovo. What should I do?
    Thank you very much.

I have a better experience as my microsoft sculpt touch mouse now works fine - before it was always disconnecting.
Otherwise I have noticed the following with this new update:
    - you have to update the bios version too to maximise the improvement
    - regarding the special settings of my card, and after lots of test, my best setting is :
Antenna diversity type : 3 (before upgrade of bios, i had no wifi with 3 as value) - it seems it gaves me a slight enhancement
    Bandwith: 20_40
Selective suspend : enabled (disabled doesn't change anything)
Selective suspend timeout: 30 (more doesn't change)
Wifi-config: wifi (that's the real trick, if set to Performance, the drop in performance is impressive)
in the meanwhile i was typing that i experienced a slight bluetooth connexion drop... less than before, but it's not totally fixed.
i think alas that the choice of the wifi card is just very bad. I ordered back in 2008 a profesional Dell laptop with a wifi n 2x2 450Mbits minipci. I expected that in 2012-13, an ultrabook without lan connexion and a ssd would at least provide a 2x2 (dual band) 300 Mbits wifi n... but here it's just the cheapest wifi n single band + bluetooth bundle which has been put. The worst is that's an economy of maybe 20€ which is ridiculous on a >1000€ machine.
Once the guarantee has passed, i think i'll upgrade my machine with a decent minipci wifi card and that's all. At least it seems that the dismounting of the Yoga 13 is quite well documented.

  • How do I get internet and phone to cabin in garden...

I have built a cabin about 90' away from my house in the garden. How can I get an internet connection and phone line
to the cabin? I have a router in the house but it gives a weak signal down that far. Can one run a phone line down and use this for the internet? What kind of wire? Etc!
    Replies much appreciated!

The simplest solution if you don't mind running cables is to run a long phone extension, and a long ethernet cable for the broadband.  If the cables will be exposed to the elements, make sure you get exterior grade cables.
Phone line would just be the normal twisted pair phone cable.  Ethernet would be Cat5e or Cat6.
