Broadband Support

Hi,
I've been trying to call BT Broadband Support for the past few days to follow up a case.. all I seem to be getting is "Sorry, our helpdesk is closed" when apparently it's a 24/7 line.
I work days, so it's easier for me to call of a night but unfortunately I haven't been able to get through recently.. has this line stopped running as 24/7 support?
Cheers,
Dan

well the wifi compatability is most likley casued by the n setting, switchign it off would fix the adpators not working unless they were unable to detect the signal which would likley be caused by the channel range of the adpater and can be fixed by changing the default one on the hub, also the encryption setings can cause errors with older adapters down to the rather flexible way the standards have been evolved, that sort of conflict can often be fixed by a firmware update for the errant adapter, or driver update.
aside from that a detected but undiagnosed line fault would suggest that you need to get intouch with bt voice, complain the line is noisy and get them to fix it (lines are voice problem signals are bb problem for fault reporting) dont mention the bb problem to the voice desk just the crackly noises weather there present during the call or not, if there always there eamil them, tell them in the email to ring you on an alternate number (mobile preferably) to discuss the problem and arange engineer visit (dont ring them from the mobile it cost's you money on your bill)
if you dont own a mobile i would suggest wasting 10 quid on a disposable payg from somewhere like tesco untill the problem is fixed (keep it if you dont mind following the topup guidelines to keep it active after the initial registration time)
as for lodging a complaint go to the main bt home page, select contact us, and follow the click through links to the one that says register a complaint, fill in the online form and click send at the bottom.
as a shortcut you could just click the link here;

  • At my wits end with broadband support

Last week my connection dropped out - BTHomehub2, broadband light goes orange and appears to like it, as it stays that way for an hour and after a restart & reset.  Despite it being 10.30pm i'm pretty reliant on my connection, so i call up the support line and a young woman answers the phone and it doesn't bode well early on.  Part way through explaining my situation she started sighing, so i apologised if i was boring her, but she reluctantly agreed to test my line, can i have your details etc.  At this point she vanished for ages, so i spent that time submitting a fault report on the website.  After a while she came back and started telling me how a fault had been detected and that it would be back on soon.  Great - how soon?  Up to 24 hours... well, inconvenient but if that's the best guess you can give i suppose that's all i can go on.
Early the next morning i notice the fault report has been "resolved" on the website.  Erm... nope, it hasn't, the broadband light is still full on orange like a pelican crossing beacon, attention whore that it is.  So, ring them up again and explain my concern - that if it shows as resolved then perhaps it will be overlooked.  I was assured that someone from 2nd line support would be in touch.  He called about nine, introduced himself as Pradesh from 2nd line support and that the fault was with the exchange, who had been informed and someone would be in touch if there is news.
The next time i spoke to the support line, within a few minutes of getting through i feel like i've done something naughty at school, with the lass on the other end just talking, relentlessly, until i managed to refer her to the previous conversation i had with her colleague that morning, suggesting she should check the log and read up on my fault, but she denied there was any record of a call earlier.  The conversation progressed, and then she read a quote from me, from the call earlier in the day!  I asked her if that was a super power or if she had been mistaken and had found the call record - she then got very agitated, told me i was being rude and if i swore again she would hang up - i had certainly said nothing obscene - so i challenged her attitude and asked to speak to someone else, perhaps a supervisor, but we all know that there's never a manager on shift, there are no supervisors and they are unable to put you through to anyone else - like these call centres are run by anarchic mercenaries, no leaders, and no contact with the outside world - who are you hiring, BT?  The cast from Mad Max??
At some point she hung up on me.
Last of all, i spoke to a chap named Angurag, who was super-sympathetic, and super-pleased to be given the opportunity to help me out (No-one should be that enthusiastic about dealing with a broken broadband connection.  It's wholly un-natural), and was super-polite, but ultimately just apologised a lot and told me someone would be in touch.
    No-one was.
About 36 hours after it went out, the connection returned but, since that day, it's been dreadfully slow.  I've given it a couple of days as i understand the weather has caused problems at a local exchange (as reported by a different ISP's exchange fault tracker - BT, why don't you have one of them?) but it's gone on too long, so i called this evening and was told that the connection appears fine from their end so an engineer would contact me...
four days from now.  I told him forget it, i'll just hope the internet gremlins sort it out as i am, literally, done with talking to a helpdesk that provides no help and involves four separate departments to even report a fault to the engineers (1st line -> 2nd line -> wholesale -> engineer, which is then reversed to inform the customer even what the problem is - that's simply retardedly long winded).
I've been a customer for some time, i've endured some real junk from BT but i've stuck with it.  Think i'm as close tonight to leaving and risking my connection with Virgin as i have ever been.  I pay far too much for this.
Please don't take me up as a moaner, i'm a very low temperature guy 99.9% of the time, i'm just at the end of the ol' rope with regards to ever speaking to someone at BT who has a clue ever again.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the reply, little confused though, not entirely sure how it helps my situation.  My main concern is that i am still entirely in the dark as to what the problem with my connection is, and i have nowhere to turn to obtain information or help of any kind.  The fault they detected is at the exchange, but it's not at the exchange, and there isn't a fault, but someone will call me back inside an hour, four days from now, or never, as long as no-one imagines me swearing at them.  Madness, i tell thee.
I am, again, sitting in the queue on the phone, hoping beyond hope that this time i will stumble across one of the few really useful and helpful members of staff (very often a Geordie i notice), as faults in the past that have had the helpline lead me on a wild goose chase have been resolved in seconds when i find that right person.
Instead, it appears that BT have outsourced their support line to Mordor or somewhere, and the modus operandi is to make stuff up, lie through their teeth, pass the buck - basically anything to get me off the line as soon as is possible, regardless of the service.
Can't even get the btw speedtest page to load now, times out.  Pigeons would be more effective a means of communication.  Now i'm wondering if they're expensive to keep, what sort of union they have etc.

  • Re: Broadband Support - Indian Helpdesk is awful

I've just finished a live chat with the so-called "help" desk. Totally unhelpful. Despite telling me that the average wait time was 8 minutes, I waited well over 10 minutes for the chat to begin. What is more, I was moved back down the queue several times!!! Outrageous! The "helper" at the other end then took another several minutes to actually respond. The "helper" did sort my problem out after about 10 minutes but when asked to answer my questions about the queuing system and its lies (I had to ask the ame question 5 times) and after I suggested it was about time that BT moved its "help" desk back to the UK, the "helper" decided to "requeue" me before I could make record of the chat!! I was certainly ot going wait another 20 minutes to be sucked in again. My issue had been that BT had disactivated my Caller ID after I called the help desk about phone charges, DESPITE INSISTING 3 TIMES that I wanted to retain that feature! The "helper" took almost 20 minutes to arrange reactivation and NOT answer my complaint about their chat queuing fabrications. It is obvious that these "chat" people have lots of chats open at the same time and that is why you do not get their full attention. Scandalous considering the exorbitant costs of a BT line.

So....did you get your problem sorted?

  • Broadband Support - Indian Helpdesk is awful

Sorry BT but having an Indian Helpdesk is the worst thing you can possibly have. The staff may well be cheap and save BT lots of costs in terms of overheads, but the poor quality of service that this produces is in no way worth it. The two people I have spoken to where so amature it was a joke.
BT should mean 'British' Telecom and not British Telecom - Poorly paid and inferior Indian staff

Its not just awful its totally incompetent.
Been trying to get slow speed fixed for a fortnight.  Finaly sent an engineer after trying to tell me the line was OK. (speed 200kb).  One agent said line must be ok if I could use facebook!
The engineer was tasked to the wrong no!  He did not do anything.  I called them and they now say they have to restart the whole test procedure again.  They obvioulsy have no mechanism of changing their mistakes without gioing back to the beginning.  So we now enter the THIRD week with no progress!!!
Wil be leaving BT totally at first opportunity.  BT are treating customers as revenue fodder and only interested in profit for shareholders.
Oh and moderator dont bother trying to tell me how to contact the call centre or increase the speed or check on speedtester.  I have called so often and used speedtester so often I can do it while sleeping.

  • New Broadband worked for a day 8 days ago and BT s...

    Hi
This is on behalf of my mum.
She had BT total broadband and telephone line installed on the 22/3/2011 she moved from virginmedia and took her number with her.
The broadband worked for half a day and has not worked since.
The Internet light is constantly flashing orange and purple and never connects.
For the first 4 days when calling bt she was advised there was a problem in the area each time she rang for northern england, northern ireland and scotland.
However a problem this big where no one in those areas could connect would make the news!!
My mum has asked several neighbours and friends if their bt broadband is not working and theirs are working fine.
She has now also called bt broadband support for the last 2 days and has been promised callbacks which do not arrive and also when calling back herself is advised she will get a callback in 24 hours which never happens.....
I live approx 200 miles away and have tried to diagnose the best I can and have ascertained there seems to be an ADSL connection but it doesnt then connect
Am I right in thinking that a homehub (3) authenticates via telephone number to connect to the internet?
If that is so then is it possible that the bt line was installed with a temporary number and then the virginmedia number was ported in and then the broadband stopped authenticating if the temp number was the allowed number and hasnt been updated?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and she has tried all the usual reset, take the front of the bt linebox, changed the filter etc etc but nothing works and bt are providing her with no customer support whatsoever.
    many thanks
a very ear chewed off son :-)

    Hi PaulN
    Welcome to the community.
We can investigate this for you but will require some more information from what you have explained you have gone through a lot of the basic diagnostics and as you live far from your mother, posting up router stats on here isn't really an option.

We're about 1.5 mls from the exchange in a straight line, and rough guess around 100mtr's from the cabinet. Line runs off a pole to our roof, where there's a junction box outside, enters the loft with 1mtr of flat cable, then junction box to 10mtrs of Cat5 twisted pair to the master socket - Not BT socket but is a MASTER. cables loop in/out terminals 3-5 (ring wire removed) the loop out then feeds a second socket around 8mtrs away. Router achieves same speeds etc at both points.
History: Broadband has always seemed to offer a speed of around 2.6MB/s as best when tested on the Intel speed test in the past, worst is possibly around 2.2MB/s. We're currently having fibre installed in our village, our cabinet is yet to be fitted.
About 15 days ago the phone line had sound like a scrunching crisp packet, and also steady static noise. BT were called who sent an openreach tech out around 3 days later. He identified and fixed a line break around 60m from the property, but also mentioned it might be an intermittent fault as the ringtone disappeared during his visit? however mentioned he was unable to check the pole, external roof and loft connections given the access.
He did also discover that the static noise on the line was only present with the router: Home hub 3 connected - you could also hear the odd noise the router makes down the phone when initializing. He tried a different filter and also the cable between the router and filter was changed, both making no difference he advised that we should report the router to BT. He left with the line being clear (with the router not connected), however mentioned he was unable to check the pole or the roof connections given the access.
So.. Phone line clear for voice calls, but broad band speed was: line speed 3.5MB but only 0.45MB at the device
BT 150 Broadband support were called who've supplied a new router - this didn't make any difference. Tech team 2 got involved who reset the line - apparently the fault? put a cap on the line. With this being done, the sync speed was 5.125MB/s and 4.6MB/s at the device (results off BT speed test) and I was advised that they'd monitor the line for 3 days as it 'learned'. Latency was also changed from Interleaved to Fast.
Checking the router info during this time showed figures as shown in the chart above, although the downstream was 4-5ish MB and the noise margin was 3.5db, FEC, CRC errors were much higher.
From that, the download speed has gradually dropped to where we are now.. and I'm talking to BT stage 1 again who are asking about filters etc, and completely oblivious to any past events on our line??
I'm not sure what to do, if anyone has any help it would be much appreciated, as explaining the above to someone who has only the ability to diagnose fault off flowchart each time is very time consuming! Many thanks

Hi, thanks for your reply, please see comments
is there still noise on quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone. When a test is done with a corded phone there is a 'just' audible steady static sound to the line. It's not silent essentially.
do you have a test socket you can use? No. Our master socket is non BT but does have the capacitor? barrel behind the plate. The engineer ran all his tests through this, and as I remember found some issue at the cabinet, whch was fixed.
your connection time is only 4hrs is that due to manual reset or router dropping connection?  your noise margin is high at 12.9db as normal is about 6db sugegsting line noise and or drops in connection. It will have dropped. I think the best connection managed over the last week or more is just over 1 day without a drop.
can you run btspeedtester and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results
    0.49mbps Down
    0.00mbps Up
    43.13 Ping Latency

  • Broadband Speed Issues

I've been having an issue for the last few weeks with my broadband speed, as it has suddenly become very slow. I contacted the BT broadband support and they did some tests on the line and they came back fine. I then moved the connection from the master socket to the test socket re-did the speed test and the results were exactly the same as the master socket. So support seemed to think it maybe something to do with the ADSL filters and are going to send me some new ones. The connection is now back in the master socket.
I've done a phone test using a handset and there did not seem to be any interference on the line. So I googled around and started wondering if I'd been banded. I've recently moved (about 6 weeks ago) from BT broadband option 2 to BT Broadband option 3 which could have coincided with when the problem started, but I'm not 100% sure that this is the case. I was thinking maybe I've been banded since moving to option 3. I've not maintained a steady connection since my move to option 3 as my router is switched off every night. So I've now maintained a steady connection (connected to the master socket) for a over a day however the stats show no sign of improvement. I'm going to maintain this connection for 3 days as suggested in other threads to see if the stats improve. I just thought I would post to see if anybody had any other ideas, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've now maintained a connection for over 5 days but still seem to be on a banded profile there does seem to have been some errors and some signal loss but it does not seem to have been enough to have reset the clock. Is there anything else I can do to improve the speed or is it just a case of maintaning a connection until the speed decides to improve?

  • Slow/Disconnecting Broadband.

Last April we started getting problems with the broadband. The connection would drop constantly and even with the box plugged into the test socket it was still not working properly. Apparently there was a fault on the line and it was fixed and the connection worked but it was slow. We then switched package to the unlimited. We got a box out and that worked for a few months. Then again the connection dropped. Eventually an engineer came out and fitted a master microfilter and gave us a new broadband box. Even though we got this new box the connection never seemed to settle but it disconnected far less so we left it a while. 2 computers that are wireless is what uses the connection most of the time and they both used to go down at the same time. All lights were blue on the box. I checked if a wired laptop disconnects when the internet went down and the wired laptop was fine so it was just the wireless. (I also tested the wireless on the same laptop sitting right next to the router and it would disconnect) Eventually we were getting disconnected 2-3 times a day so I called the bt broadband support and all the guy did was change the channel. That was last week. I can say it hasn't disconnected but it is now really slow. I really don't know what's going on but I'm getting tired of this connection not working properly. I don't know if it's the box or something with the line but I just want a stable connection and something that's faster than 2mbps because apparently we're supposed to get atleast 8mbps.
I saw a thread earlier someone posted their connection stats from the router so I'll do that and I would appreciate any help because right now I don't want to call bt up again to have another guy change the channel again.
(It's 0 days because I restarted the router at the mains)
Also I don't know if this helps at all but I'll paste this in. I thought it was a bit low.
    Data Transmitted/Received (MB)  9.2 / 244.0

Ok I ran a few seperate speed tests throughout yesterday and I notcied it only appears to have a slow connection on the pc's farthest away from the broadband box. (The box is in the hallway connected to the masterscoket and the two computers are upstairs directly above it) Now I can see why the 2 computers would be slow but I'd like to get the speed increased for them. Is it possible to move the box upstairs even though I have this mastermicrofilter fitted on the mastersocket? Do I need other microfilters fitted to other telephones sockets with this on? Is there a signal booster maybe that might help boost the speed for the wireless?

  • How long should I have to wait before I get a spee...

I have had weeks of problems with slow broadband issues due to a line fault which only shows when it is wet.
They have appeared to fix the problem on Friday at long last as I did not lose my line when it rained today but my speed has remained between 0.00 and 0.13.
I have been told they have reset my profile which normally increases my speed in minutes but not this time.
I am told by one bt broadband support person I could have to wait 10 days, anothe person says 48 hours.
I cannot understand why the speed does not increase a bit, my normal speed is between 1.5 and 2mb
My latest figures from BT wholesale speed test is as follows:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.13 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.25 Mbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :1.98 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.14 Mbps
Sppeds of just 0.13 is almost unsable, sometimes I cannot even get a page to display.

you currently have a connection speed of 1.98mb but due yo previous problems your profile is at rock bottom of 0.14mb.  this should normally fix itself automatically given a stable connection 24/7 for 3/5 days.  can you post router stats to show if connection time 3+ days

  • New Infinity User - Reduced speeds

    Dear all,
As a fellow BT Infinity user, I thought I will share my experience with you.
I got my BT Infinity option-2 (unlimited) installed on 27/09/2011 with a white box modem and Home Hub-3.  The BT Engineer said that I should get approx. 33.9mbs downstream and 8.6mbs upstream (as stated on my BT order) and would take up to 10days to achieve this speeds.
When we did a speed test using a wired connection on http://speedtester.bt.com the reading was approx 15mbs downstream and 7mbs upstream. When I queried the less than half downstream reading, once again the BT Engineer said it would take up to 10days to get the required speeds. Then we did a couple more tests and the line speed was ranging between approx. 11 – 19mbs downstream and 5-7mbs upstream.
I then called the BT broadband support and updated them with the speed issues and once again I was told to wait until 10days and I’ll get the speeds specified on the BT order confirmation. So I waited for 10 days….
Now 10 days have passed and nothing has changed. I have already done several speed tests (wired connection) and logged my results with BT. Called BT support and they say to wait for another 10days and the speeds will increase.??
My speeds are still raging between approx. 11-19mbs downstream /  6-7mbs upstream.
I have read some forum suggestions to contact the mods. Is this (contact form) the right form to fill in and send to the mods ?
    With kind regards,

Yes that's the correct form, include a link to this thread. A Mod will respond in a couple of days.

  • How to transfer the progress of just one game from one iPad to another iPad

Hi everyone!  When I purchased an iPad Air, I gave my old iPad 3 to a family member who kept one of my games and its progress, but changed every other App to suit his requirements.  My iPad Air has all MY Apps, which are different to the ones on the iPad 3.  Both iPads use my Apple account.
I want to somehow transfer the progress of just the one game from the iPad 3 to the iPad Air and I don't want to back up my iPad Air to be the same as his iPad 3, which I know will transfer the progress of the game, but it will also mean I will  get a load of Apps I don't want and more importantly, lose all my Apps and the progress in all my games.
i.e. can I transfer one game and its progress from one iPad to another without altering/deleting/removing existing Apps on either iPad.
Phew ... hope the above makes some sort of sense to someone!!!
    Thank you

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

  • How to transfer iBooks books & PDFs from old iPad to new iPad?

(Well, it seems my title got truncated; originally it read: How to transfer iBooks books & PDFs from old iPad to new iPad?)
I've recently gotten an iPad Air to replace my previous iPad 2. I have a bunch of books and PDFs in iBooks on the old iPad, and want to transfer them to the new iPad.
A search of Apple Support informs me that anything I've purchased from iBooks can be downloaded at any time to any of my devices (works like Amazon's Kindle system, apparently), but nearly all the content I have in iBooks on the iPad I've downloaded from other sources, so it won't be in my iBooks Store account (I might have bought one book there).
I've also seen several instructions on how to copy all my data from the old iPad to the new via Backup & Restore, but that seems to require restoring the new iPad to factory setup, which would delete everything I have on it now – including a bunch more books I've gotten since I started using the new iPad. And I don't want to copy everything, only the books/PDFs (the new iPad has everything I want, except for the books).
Since there seems to be no way to transfer files directly from one iPad to the other, it seems it must be done via iTunes on my MacBook Pro (and I want to copy all the books/PDFs to the computer anyway). So I connected the iPad 2 to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) and opened iTunes (11.3.1). Then clicked on the iPad's name in the sidebar to the left, and on Books below it. I see a list of the books on the iPad. I check the little boxes by all their names to select them (not sure if that's necessary, but it seems like a good idea), then click on the Sync button at the lower right, to the right of the bar at the bottom of the window with colored bands showing memory usage on the iPad. A message appears saying "The app 'iBooks' was not installed on the iPad '[name]' because the app could not be found."
But iBooks is already on the iPad; I have it open and see the list of books in it, which matches the list shown in iTunes. The message has a "More Information" button; I click that and it opens an Apple Support article titled "iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open": "Learn what to do if you see one of these issues with an app you downloaded from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: The app unexpectedly quits; The app stops responding; You can’t open the app." But none of these apply; the iBooks app is on the iPad, and works fine there.
The article suggests: (1) Restart the App. I've done that, no help. (2) Restart your device. Done that, no help. (3) Update your device software and your apps. The iPad is running iOS 6.1.3, iBooks 3.1.3; not the latest versions, no, but I'd rather not update it to newer, bigger, more power-hungry versions if I don't have to. Is it that iTunes 11 doesn't work with iOS 6? I haven't seen this stated anywhere.
So instead I click the OK button on the message, but nothing further happens, so far as I can tell: None of the books/PDFs on the iPad (about 380MB) appear in iBooks on the MacBook Pro.
I click on "Books" in the row of words across the top of the iTunes window, and it shows me the single PDF presently in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I click the box by "Sync Books", and a message appears: "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPad and sync with this iTunes library?" Well, no, that's exactly what I DON'T want to do. I don't want to erase the 380MB of books and PDFs on the iPad and replace them with the single PDF now in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I want to copy the books from the iPad 2 to iTunes, so I can copy them back to the new iPad Air (if, God willing, I can figure out how to do that without erasing the books now on the iPad Air).
I've been working with Macintosh computers for over 26 years. It's always been a fairly simple process to copy files from one computer to another. I don't want to "sync" all the data (address book, email, God knows what else) on the iPad with the corresponding information on the MacBook Pro – especially if that will erase everything on the iPad (which has information not on the MacBook Pro, e.g. 380MB of books). I just want to copy the books and PDFs in iBooks from the old iPad to the MacBook Pro, then to the new iPad, adding them to the books on the new iPad, so I don't lose anything.
Can anybody give me a clue?
